A Lafayette police officer was backing his police cruiser out of a parking space when he hit a woman Thursday. The woman, 49, of Danville, fell to the pavement after being struck and told the officer that she had injured her ankle.

The officer escorted the woman to work. She planned to go to the hospital for her injuries from there.

The accident, which occurred in the Washington Mutual parking lot on Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette, is under investigation by California Highway Patrol.  This is standard Lafayette Police Department procedure for incidents such as these.

It is currently unknown if the woman plans to take any legal actions.
