Car crashes affect traffic and power

A car crash on St. Mary’s Road this morning knocked out power to a large portion of Lafayette when the vehicle hit a power pole. As of 9:30 a.m., some parts of Lafayette are still without power including Stanley Middle School. The accident also stopped traffic heading down St. Mary’s Road.

Another accident in the unincorporated area between Moraga and Canyon knocked a tree down onto Pinehurst Road and Canyon Road just after 7:00 a.m. Traffic on the road was completely stopped by the tree as it was blocking both sides of the road, forcing Moraga residents who normally take that route into Oakland to go a different way to work. Initial attempts to cut the tree were unsuccessful because the equipment the crew had was not strong enough.
