The drama and debate surrounding Toris Jaeger’s position of naturalist of the Wagner Ranch Nature Area has officially come to an end. The Orinda School Board recently decided to eliminate the position completely for the upcoming school year.

Jaeger will remain an employee of the school district, which the district was required to do as Jaeger has tenure. For the upcoming school year, she will be a fifth-grade teacher at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School.

Community supporters of Jaeger raised almost an entire year’s salary to persuade the district to keep her in her naturalist position, but the district declined to accept the funds.

Jaeger will make more money as a full-time teacher than she did as a part-time naturalist.
