Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire Department were called in to help stop a fire in an unincorporated area of Alameda County near San Ramon. The Moraga-Orinda firefighters joined firefighters from Alameda County, San Ramon, Cal Fire and the East Bay Regional Park District in stopping the blaze.¬†The fire burned over 40 acres of land before it was put out.
The Moraga-Orinda Fire Department were the recipients of outside help when the hill behind the Rheem Valley Shopping Center caught on fire just a week ago.
It is common for firefighters to travel to help other local departments. Moraga-Orinda firefighters often fight fires outside of the Lamorinda area.

The Orinda Starlight Village Players are currently putting on the play¬†”Cyrano de Bergerac” at the Orinda Community Center, located at 26 Orinda Way. The theater is outdoors, so those attending are encouraged to dress warm and can bring their own chair. Many families bring their own dinner to enjoy during the show.
There are shows the next two Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 8:30 p.m. There is one matinee performance, on Sunday, Aug. 9, starting at 4:00 p.m. There is also a performance at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13.
General admission tickets cost $15, and student and senior tickets are $7.50.

The Lamorinda Soccer Club will be hosting their “Hot August” Jamboree for local youth soccer teams on Aug. 29 and 30 in Lafayette. The top under-9 and under-10 traveling soccer teams from the area will be competing all weekend against each other.
The jamboree is a chance for local elite youth soccer players to compete in a tournament format prior to their fall league seasons beginning.
Games will be played on one field at Lafayette Elementary School and three fields at Stanley Middle School.¬†Food and drinks will be for sale at Stanley.
The jamboree is a chance for parents of current LMYA and OYA players to get a feel for what traveling club soccer is about.

The following statistics are for crimes committed in Orinda during the month of July, as reported by the Orinda Police Department.
There were six residential burglaries, two commercial burglaries and three vehicle burglaries reported.
Two stolen vehicles were found and recovered, and there was one report of petty theft from a vehicle.
There was one reported case of domestic abuse on Rheem Boulevard that resulted in an injury to one of the spouses and the arrest of the other.
There were nine additional arrests for crimes including driving under the influence, battery, burglary, drunk in public and loitering on private property.
The Orinda Police Department also responded to 135 false residential alarms in July.

On Monday, Aug. 3, the Orinda Library is hosting a writing workshop for kids in third through fifth grade that starts at 10:30 a.m.
The Orinda Library is also hosting an event on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 10:00 a.m. for children ages one to three. The event will include interactive storytelling and singing. The same event will also take place on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
The Moraga Library is hosting a workshop called “Accepted: Getting into Your 1st Choice College” on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 7:00 p.m. Representatives from Kaplan Test Prep will be on hand to discuss college admissions procedures and standardized testing.
On Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 2:00 p.m., the Moraga Library will be hosting a speaker from the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts who will be discussing Ancient Egypt and the¬†Tutankhamun exhibit on display at the¬†de Young Museum.

The Lamorinda Petanque Club hosted the 2009 FPUSA Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles National Tournaments on July 25 and 26 at the Lafayette Petanque Courts.
Players from thirteen different petanque clubs competed in the tournaments with the top finishers in each tournament being awarded medals and prizes.¬†Jacques de Noray, the Deputy French Consul, came to the event from San Francisco to hand out the awards.
The tournaments started early in the morning each day and, despite the high temperatures all day, continued into the night.¬†
The FPUSA was pleased with how well the Lamorinda Petanque Club hosted the event, and the club¬†could very well¬†host major tournaments in the future.
