The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team played one of the biggest games in the history of the program on Sunday when they hosted the #1 team in the nation, Stanford. The Gaels played Stanford tough for 90 minutes but were unable to pull off the upset, losing a close game, 1-0.
The loss dropped the Gaels’ overall record to 6-5, but the game was still a positive as the team held Stanford well below their season averages for shots (26) and goals (3.6) per game. The Gaels only allowed 17 shots.
The Gaels’ next game is Wednesday, Sept. 30, against Fresno State. The kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m. in Saint Mary’s Stadium.
