Woman burned in Orinda house fire dies

The woman that was severely burned during a fire at her home on Descanso Drive in Orinda on Oct. 13 died over the weekend as a result of the burns.

An investigation of the fire by police and fire investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set by the woman using lighter fluid as an accelerant in the master bedroom of her home. A further investigation into the woman’s background revealed she had been experiencing recent personal issues. Investigators believe the woman set the fire intentionally to commit suicide.

Her son who was also home at the time of the fire was able to safely exit the home.
