Hope for Rheem Theatre?

Apparently, articles about the Rheem Theatre in the Times and the Lamorinda Weekly, as well as a purported KTVU report that I couldn’t find, galvanized the Moraga community somewhat over the weekend.

Jim Sheehan, one of the theater’s operators, said business was very good over the weekend, and he and business partner Tom Peterson now believe they can keep the old movie house open until the middle of January, maybe longer.

He also credited the efforts of Moraga Chamber of Commerce President Edy Schwartz in getting the word out.

Sheehan and Peterson were looking at closing the theatre sometime after the holidays because business was down this year more than 30 percent from last year.

But now things are looking up, at least in the short term. There will be a meeting Thursday afternoon with Sheehan, Peterson, landlord Mike Puri, chamber members and other community members to discuss the future of the Rheem. More details to come.
