When Gonzaga fell to USF in an overtime game on Jan. 30, the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team knew that their game against Gonzaga on Feb. 11 would likely be for the lead in the West Coast Conference standings.

While both teams entered last night’s game with just one league loss, Gonzaga once again proved they are the team to beat in the WCC, as they dominated the second half against Saint Mary’s, winning by a final score of 80-61.

The win moved Gonzaga to 8-1 in WCC play and dropped Saint Mary’s to 8-2. Gonzaga also holds the tiebreaker by beating Saint Mary’s in both meetings this season. Saint Mary’s would need to win their remaining four WCC games and Gonzaga would need to lose two of their five remaining conference games for the Gaels to win the regular season title.
