camp_anawannaGot an e-mail this afternoon from Lafayette Parks and Rec director Jennifer Russell that can really only be described as awesome. Subject line: The awesomeness of Camp Awesome.

Russell tells me that a week of Camp Awesome is already in the books but there is one being held every week of the summer. There are also some specialized camps, including fencing, jewelry making, video production and cheerleading, she said.

What, no summer outlet for budding journalists?

This year parents can also pick up an Awesome Card “that can be used for specific camp days offering maximum flexibility for busy families with changing schedules.”

Not convinced? Take a look at the photo below. They’ve got a parachute. Awesome.

You can sign up for Camp Awesome at or at the Lafayette Community Center. The week-long camps run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and cost $158. Early care from 7:30-9 a.m. is $38. There are also week-long afternoon camps from 2-5 p.m. for $82. High schoolers can sign up to be camp leaders for $78 (mornings) and $41 (afternoons).
