David Seaborg announced Saturday that a $20,000 contribution would be made in the purchase of a part of the Lafayette Ridge in the name of his father, Glenn Seaborg. The $20,000 comes from money contributed to a memorial fund set up for Glenn Seaborg following his death in 1999.
The cities of Lafayette and Walnut Creek and the East Bay Regional Parks District contributed a combined $1.17 million to the $1.3 million purchase price. The Muir Heritage Land Trust and other contributors, including the Seaborgs, will pay for the remaining amount.
Glenn Seaborg, famous for working on the atomic bomb and codiscovering 10 elements, enjoyed hiking through the local hills during his time spent living in the area.
