Five members of Lafayette’s Girl Scout Troop 30209 recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, which only 6% of girl scouts earn nationwide.¬†The five Gold Award members are Anne Bremer,¬†Claudia Lovell, Chenning (Grace) Ma, Haley Schmidt and Michelle So.

In order to earn the Gold Award, each girl scout had to successfully complete a 60-hour community service project, in addition to earning a checklist full of badges and awards.

The five girls’ projects included educational programs on DNA (Lovell) and modern-day slavery (Schmidt). Ma educated youth residents of Shelter, Inc. on the possibilities of college, while Bremer produced Spanish language training materials for Family Paths, Inc. So put her efforts into driving youth participation in local Lafayette events and programs.
