Youth soccer tournament at Stanley

If you have been in downtown Lafayette at all today, you may have noticed a large amount of children running around in jerseys. The reason for that? The Lamorinda Soccer Club is hosting their youth soccer tournament, the Hot August Jamboree, this weekend at Stanley Middle School.

The “jamboree” consists of Under-9 and Under-10-year-old boys and girls teams from all over the Bay Area. With three fields set up across the Stanley grass and games kicking off from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. both days, there is a lot of soccer being played.

Lafayette’s Forte leaving SNL

Actor/comedian Will Forte will not be returning to the cast of Saturday Night Live for the upcoming season. Forte, who grew up in Lafayette and attended Acalanes High School, was a member of the Saturday Night Live cast for eight seasons.

Forte was the star of the movie MacGruber, which debuted at theaters on May 21. The movie, based on a character Forte played on Saturday Night Live, did not experience much success at the box office.

Forte is likely to continue focusing on his acting career.

Here is an interview with Will Forte prior to the release of the MacGruber movie…

No decision on the Dollar Tree…yet

Since the Dollar Tree’s application to open a store in the Rheem Valley Shopping Center was confirmed in July, it has been a hot topic in Moraga. At a meeting last night in the JM Auditorium, local residents and business owners argued for both sides.

With the passionate arguments coming to a close for the night, those in attendance expected to hear a decision. They didn’t get one. A decision will not be made until the next meeting on Sept. 7.

The planned location for the Dollar Tree store would be where Blockbuster was, as well as the spaces to the immediate left and right.

Let us know how you feel about the issue.
