Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the Lamorinda Sun blog!

The weather has been nice all day and should make for perfect trick-or-treating conditions for the kids tonight.

For those who are looking for “ideal” trick-or-treating locations, there are several locations in Lamorinda that bring out kids and families from all over. The Burton Valley neighborhood in Lafayette, Sanders Ranch in Moraga and the neighborhoods around Los Perales in Moraga and Orinda Intermediate School in Orinda are all favorites among Lamorinda trick-or-treaters.

With many of the local schools having the day off of school tomorrow, get ready for some knocks at your door tonight!

Acalanes wins; Campolindo falls in OT

Acalanes came up with a win Friday night in a defensive battle against Dublin. Despite both offenses being unable to move the ball for much of the game, Acalanes was able to score a third quarter touchdown on a 99-yard drive that proved to be the difference in their 10-3 win. With the win, the Dons improve to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the DFAL.

Campolindo lost a heart breaker in overtime against DFAL leaders Alhambra, 33-30. A field goal on their overtime possession didn’t prove to be enough for the Cougars, as Alhambra scored a touchdown on their possession. The Cougars drop to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the DFAL.

Miramonte had a bye this week. Their next game is at Dublin on Friday night.

Another rainy weekend in Lamorinda

While the weather was nice enough to withhold the rain for the majority of the week, the rain couldn’t stay away for long. The light rain so far today is expected to turn into heavy rain overnight.

The rain is forecasted to continue throughout Saturday morning and likely into Saturday afternoon. The chance of rain on Sunday has dropped down to 20%, so we may have one dry day this weekend.

Looking ahead to next week, there is no rain in the forecast. In fact, the forecast shows that we may have some sunny days in the 70s Tuesday and Wednesday. There is a chance of rain next weekend as well though.

Lamorinda election information

With the election just days away, here’s pretty much everything I or someone else wrote in the past couple months on the elections in Lamorinda

Election round-ups

In case you’re not planning on writing in Cody Ross, Juan Uribe or Matt Cain onto your ballot, here’s a list of the Times’ recommendations (which I have no control over so please don’t call me):

You can find the Times’ endorsements for all Contra Costa County and statewide races here.

Finally, if you want to relive the magic that was the Contra Costa Times/League of Women Voters televised candidates’ forums, you can find them all here.

For election night updates and results, you can keep an eye on this space as well as follow me on Twitter, @sosaysjonathan. I’ll be posting as frequently as possible, as information will be coming quicker than a Brian Wilson fastball. Sounds delicious.

Michael Merrick, 47, a popular teacher at Stanley Middle School, was arrested this week after a 14-year-old student told police she had been molested by him.

Merrick was officially arrested on suspicion of committing lewd and lascivious acts on a child, having unnatural sexual interest in a child, communication with a minor in order to commit a crime, showing lewd material to a minor, and distributing harmful material to a child.

Merrick had been a private tutor for the student, and the alleged sexual contact is believed to have taken place at the school.

Police were able to view Merrick’s phone history, which revealed as many as 140 text messages to the victim per day. The text messages were often of a sexual nature.

Merrick is currently in Contra Costa County Jail after his bail was set at $3.05 million.

Miramonte crushes Campolindo; Acalanes loses

Miramonte didn’t leave any questions about who is the best high school football team in Lamorinda, as the Matadors dominated Campolindo, 34-7, on Friday night. The Matadors beat Acalanes, 44-21, three weeks ago.

With the win, Miramonte improves to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the DFAL. The Matadors have a bye next week, but if they are able to beat Dublin and Alhambra in their two remaining games, they would win at least a share of the DFAL title.

With the loss, Campolindo falls to 5-3 overall and just 1-3 in the DFAL. They have tough games against Las Lomas and Alhambra remaining.

Despite taking a 21-10 lead into the fourth quarter, Acalanes fell, 25-21, to Dougherty Valley. The Dons are now 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the DFAL. They face Dublin and Las Lomas in their two remaining games.
