Many Lamorinda students and citizens get hit by fake quake

At 10:21 this morning, students at local schools, employees at local businesses and citizens at our local BART stations all took cover as a giant earthquake hit. Well, there wasn’t an actual earthquake, but everyone did “drop, cover, and hold,” as a part of the “Great California Shakeout.”

The event, which happened throughout the Bay Area with many Lamorinda schools participating, was created as an earthquake preparedness drill to give people practice before “the big one” actually hits.

BART trains stopped for a minute to give commuters a chance to practice should they be on a train at the time of an earthquake, although BART riders were not as enthusiastic about the practice as students were.
