Lafayette man is Junior World Cup fencing champion

David Willette, of Lafayette, was recently named the Junior World Cup Points Winner for the 2009-2010 international fencing season in Junior men’s foil. Willette earned the title after successful finishes in six major fencing tournaments, including victories at the Pan Am Junior Championships in Mexico and the Eden Cup in London.

Willette will be honored for winning the title at a conference in Moscow, Russia, on Dec. 5.

Willette, who is a sophomore at Penn State University, finished second at the NCAA Championships as a freshman. He was also named an All-American.

Willette graduated from Acalanes High School as part of the Class of 2009.
