With all of the vehicles that have gone smashing into restaurants, stores and even homes in the past few months in Lamorinda, the one positive always seemed to be that no one was injured. That changed today when a vehicle hopped the curb near the Lafayette Post Office and hit a woman around 5:20 p.m. tonight.

The woman who was struck by the vehicle suffered major injuries and is being treated at John Muir Medical Center, according to police.

According to a witness, the driver of the vehicle was an elderly person who mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.
