Riders at the Lafayette and Orinda BART stations tonight experienced delays as a result of an electrical fire that occurred in BART’s tunnel between the 12th Street and 19th Street stations in Oakland.

Trains were stopped  briefly while the fire was dealt with. The fire, which was reported around 5:30 p.m., caused delays on all BART trains heading between the Pittsburgh/Bay Point direction and the Richmond direction.

Most trains during that time were delayed 15 to 20 minutes. Trains were back on time shortly after 6:30 p.m; however, trains did continue to use just one single track in the area where the fire occurred.
