Walnut Creek’s Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center has named its six recipients of the 2011 Peace and Justice Award.

Dan and Nancy Harrington, of Orinda, are receiving the award for their work in founding and running the nonprofit organization Books for Barrios, which helps collect books and school supplies for children in needy areas of the Philippines.

Lynn MacMichael, of Lafayette, is receiving an award for her work as a peace activist. MacMichael was key in organizing demonstrations at the Livermore National Laboratory and the Concord Naval Weapons Station. She was also part of the effort to stop military ships from entering San Francisco Bay.

These winners, along with the others, will be honored at the “Give Peace a Dinner Dance” event on Oct. 1 at Holy Trinity Cultural Center, 1700 School St., Moraga.
