Secret Moraga recall backers are secret

By Jonathan Morales

If you live in or drive through Moraga, you’ve probably seen the signs calling for the recall of Mayor Karen Mendonca. The big question, of course, is who is behind this supposed recall campaign?

Well, whoever it is has gone to great lengths to keep his or her (or their) identify a secret.

Unlike the “Recall Moraga Town Council” signs of more than a year ago, these new signs actually list a working website. But the site lists no contact information other than an email address, to which I sent an inquiry Monday. The domain is registered under a fax number and an address — 2600 Camino Pablo — that doesn’t exist.

I eventually got a reply to my email requesting I submit my questions in writing, via email. My first was, “Who are you?”

That was Wednesday. There has been no reply. And until there is one in which the folks behind this “recall campaign” identify themselves, this will be the extent of my coverage.

From a reporter’s perspective, a local recall would be a great story. But I have no interest in writing about any political effort whose backers aren’t serious enough to publicly stand behind their claims.

  1. Moraga resident Says:

The person who is started the recall is a coward and part of the council. The Fax number is a number to the city. Signs should be posted that the Recaller is a coward and see how he likes it. This person is an idiot.

  2. Moraga voter Says:

Who ever started the recall is a moron. And it is someone who is on the Council. Maybe I should get some people to make signs with his name on it and see how stupid it is.
