Saint Mary’s sports update

Despite a slow start to the season, the Saint Mary’s men’s soccer team was able to get back on track with a five-game unbeaten streak, which included wins over Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara and Gonzaga. The team is currently 4-4-5 overall but sits near the top of the WCC standings with a 3-1-2 conference record.

The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team started their season on fire with a 9-2-1 record prior to WCC play starting. The Gaels opened WCC play with a 1-1 tie against Gonazaga; however, they have lost their last five games in a row with four of the losses by a single goal.

Campolindo dominates Miramonte

In the battle of the unbeaten teams, Campolindo proved to be too much for Miramonte, as the Cougars cruised to an easy 42-6 victory over the Matadors. The Cougars are now 4-0 in the DFAL and 8-0 overall. The Cougars certainly look like they could be on their way to an undefeated regular season, as they have Las Lomas and Alhambra remaining on their schedule, who have one and no wins in the DFAL respectively.

The Matadors are still looking for a high NCS seed with a 7-1 overall record. They have this week off, as it is their bye week.

Acalanes won their second game in a row, beating Dougherty Valley, 28-14. The Dons next game is at Dublin on Friday night.

Earthquake!

Hopefully no one was enjoying an afternoon nap just now, as the ground shaking was enough to wake almost anyone up.

The earthquake that just shook the Lamorinda area and beyond registered an initial magnitude of 4.0, according to the United States Geological Society, which makes it the biggest earthquake in the area in quite some time.

The epicenter registered about 2 miles east of Berkeley, so it was almost directly under our Orinda readers.

An earthquake of this size typically does not result in any injuries or significant damage; however, any updates to the contrary will be reported at that time.
