Happy New Year’s Eve

The Lamorinda Sun blog wants to wish all of its readers a happy end to 2011 and a happy beginning to 2012!

The weather seems to be about as perfect as we can ask for at this time of the year. While most of the local parties may be inside all night, temperatures are supposed to be in the 40s, so it won’t be too cold to go outside and make some noise to ring in the new year.

For those who want to venture into the city, it should be a great celebration this year with the temperatures not being as cold as they have been in many past years.

Big bike ride coming through Lamorinda

If you are one of the local drivers who can’t stand when there are bicyclists riding on the roads, you may want to avoid parts of Lafayette and Moraga on Jan. 28.

On the other hand, if you love biking, check out the group Cycling4Fun. They have a ride scheduled for Jan. 28 that will start and end in Castro Valley, looping through Moraga and Lafayette.

The ride will start at 9:00 a.m. with bikers dropping into Moraga from Canyon some time in the late morning hours. The group will turn right onto St. Mary’s Road, taking them into Lafayette, where they will turn right on Glenside and follow that out of Lafayette via Olympic Boulevard.

The mailbox is moving

For those who have needed to drop something off in the mailbox on Moraga Way in the past, there was no arguing that it wasn’t the safest location to get out of your car and drop something off.

Moraga resident George Fisher lead a push that resulted in the United States Postal Service agreeing to relocate that mailbox from Moraga Way into the Moraga Center, which the town government supported.

There will now be drive-up mailboxes available in the Moraga Center, making sending a letter a whole lot safer and easier.

High school basketball update

With DFAL play set to start up when students return to classes after the Winter Break is done, many of the local high school basketball teams have already experienced early season success.

The Miramonte girls continue to be the most successful team in the area so far this season, compiling a 10-0 record, while scoring opponents 744-373 during that stretch.

The Acalanes girls have won their last two games to get back to a winning record of 5-4, while the Campolindo girls continue to struggle in the early season, falling to 2-5 overall after losing their last two games.

The Acalanes boys have won six straight to improve to 9-2 overall, while Miramonte (5-2) and Campolindo (7-3) have both also had success in the early season. Any one of the local boys teams could claim the DFAL title this season.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all of the readers of the Lamorinda Sun blog! We hope you enjoyed the day with friends and family.

It wasn’t exactly a white Christmas, but it’s hard to not enjoy getting some sunshine in late December. The weather forecast shows no change over the next 10 days with sunshine and temperatures in the 50s during the days.

It looks like all of the locals of Lamorinda who were asking Santa to bring snow to Tahoe may finally be getting their wish with snow forecasted to fall up that way on Thursday.

New electric vehicle charging stations in Lafayette

In an ongoing attempt to be “green,” the City of Lafayette will have two new electric vehicle charging stations installed by the end of the year.

The new electric vehicle charging stations will be installed in the McDonald’s parking lot, 3459 Mt. Diablo Blvd. No word on whether there will be a “Supersize” option when charging.

The electric vehicle charging stations that are currently available for public use in the parking lot at Whole Foods were some of the first in the greater area, so Lafayette is staying up with the trend of electric vehicles.
