The St. Mary’s men’s soccer team’s historic NCAA tournament run came to an end this weekend when the Gaels lost, 2-0, to the number one nationally ranked soccer powerhouse North Carolina Tarheels.

The Gaels fought hard all game and held the Tarheels scoreless in the fist half. The Tarheels did not have a shot on goal the entire first half.

Even in the second half, the game was a back and forth battle with St. Mary’s creating numerous scoring opportunities, but the Tarheels put away two of their chances and moved onto the Final Four.

This was the farthest a St. Mary’s soccer team has ever gone in an NCAA Tournament and tied for the farthest any St. Mary’s team in any sport has ever gone in the NCAA Tournament.
