Campolindo’s season nearly ended perfectly, but the Cougars came up just short in their 21-16 loss to Washington Union-Fresno in the Division III state championship game.
The Cougars fell behind 14-0 early when Washington Union scored touchdowns on each of their first two drives. As the Cougars have done all season, they fought back hard to bring the score to 14-10 late in the third quarter, but they never could take the lead.
The Cougars had more offensive yards (336 to 301), first downs (19 to 13) and time of possession (25:30 to 22:30) than Washington Union, but the difference in the game was turnovers. The Cougars uncharacteristically turned the ball over five times in the game (four interceptions and a fumble) including several times when they were within scoring range.
