Special Olympics at Acalanes

Acalanes High School will be hosting a Special Olympics event tomorrow, Tuesday, May 1, in their track and field stadium on campus.

Opening ceremonies for the event begin at 10:00 a.m., which will be followed by hundreds of athletes from the Bay Area competing in many track and field events. The event will end around 1:30 p.m.

Spectators are welcome to attend the Special Olympics to cheer on the athletes throughout the day. Acalanes students will be able to go to the event during their lunch break.

Due to the large amount of cars coming to the school for the event, Acalanes is asking its students to be dropped off or carpool to school tomorrow to minimize traffic and parking issues.

High school softball update

The Acalanes softball team is having the most success of the three Lamorinda DFAL teams so far this season. The Dons are currently in second place in the DFAL with a 5-2 league record and are 12-5 overall.

The Campolindo softball team would make the NCS playoffs if they started today, but the Cougars need to do well the rest of the way in league play to ensure they make it at season’s end. The Cougars are in fifth place in the DFAL with a 3-4 league record and a 8-6 overall record.

The Miramonte softball team started the season with some wins, but they have struggled all season in the DFAL. The Matadors are in last place in the DFAL with a 0-6 league record and a 3-8 overall record.

High school baseball update

The Campolindo baseball team has had a string of success over the past few years, but this year’s team could be the strongest they have had. The team is currently ranked #6 in the nation in the MaxPreps polls. The Cougars are 13-2-1 overall and are tied for first in the DFAL with a 5-1 league record.

The Acalanes baseball team continues to have a strong season, as the Dons sit just one game back in the DFAL race with a 4-2 league record. They are 12-5 overall.

The Miramonte baseball team has struggled early in the DFAL, winning only two of their six league games, but the Matadors still look like a lock for the playoffs with a 10-5 overall record.

Moraga robbery story turns out to be fake

The robbery at knifepoint that was reported to have taken place in the Rheem Valley Shopping Center on Feb. 28 has turned out to be a false report by the alleged victim.

According to police, the alleged victim who reported the crime made the story up as a way of seeing how police would react to a report of a crime.

The report led to a manhunt throughout Lamorinda by all three local law enforcement agencies, a sketch artist working with the victim to create a sketch of the robber, and hours of investigation into the crime.

Yang Chen, 25, of Walnut Creek, who made the false report is being charged with filing a false police report.
