High school softball update

The Acalanes Dons continue to be having the best season of the three Lamorinda softball teams competing in the DFAL. The Dons are currently tied for second place in the DFAL with a 6-4 league record and a 14-7 overall record. The Dons have clinched a spot in the NCS playoffs.

Campolindo’s softball team is in fifth place in the DFAL, but they are only one game out of second place with their 5-5 league record. The Cougars are 11-9 overall and look to be headed to the NCS playoffs as well.

The Miramonte softball team has had a tough year, winning just 4 games and losing 12. The Matadors have lost all 10 of their DFAL games and have lost most of those games by more than 10 runs. The Matadors have two more DFAL games (at Acalanes and vs. Campolindo) to try and earn a league win.

High school baseball update

The Campolindo baseball team continues to be one the strongest teams around, compiling a 17-4-1 overall record this season. The Cougars are currently ranked #4 in the state as well. A loss to Acalanes on May 1 saw the Cougars lose sole possession of first place in the DFAL though. The Cougars are tied for first in the DFAL with Dougherty Valley with 8-2 league records.

The Acalanes baseball team has been getting stronger as the season progresses, including the win over Campolindo. The Dons sit just one game back from first place in the DFAL with a 7-3 league record. They are 16-6 overall.

Miramonte’s baseball team has struggled in league play, compiling a 3-7 DFAL record. The Matadors are 12-8 overall though due to a good nonleague record, which should see them earn a spot in the NCS playoffs.

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the Lamorinda moms from the Lamorinda Sun blog!

According to the forecast, it looks like we’ll have a day full of sunshine, which will be great for everyone planning outdoor gatherings.

It’s a great day to take advantage of any of the many beautiful parks Lamorinda has to offer, or maybe take a stroll with mom around the Lafayette Reservoir.

If taking mom out for lunch or dinner, stay local and visit one of the many restaurants on Lafayette’s Restaurant Row or in Orinda’s Theatre Square.

Measure A does not pass

Measure A missed out on passing by a slight margin after 64.97 percent of voters supported the parcel tax that needed two-thirds support to pass.

If Measure A had passed, a $225 parcel tax would have been added to support the Moraga School District. In total, the passage of the parcel tax would have netted the school district $1.2 million annually.

Some voters who were against Measure A noted that there is already a $325 parcel tax in place that brings in $1.8 million annually for the school district. Measure A would have been in addition to the parcel tax already in place.

The Moraga School District is planning to bring in the money via fundraising or by potentially adding another parcel tax to a future ballot.

Bike to Work Day

Wondering what all of the extra bicycles are doing out on the road today? Today is the 18th Annual Bike to Work Day with people from all over Lamorinda and the Bay Area participating.

Many participants from the Lamorinda area are riding to the BART stations, which is why the parking lots at BART seem a little more empty today as well.

As part of the event, there are energizing stations providing bicyclists with snacks and drinks throughout the Bay Area.  A station at the corner of Rheem Bouelvard and St. Mary’s Road is supporting local riders.
