Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all of the loyal Lamorinda Sun-reading fathers out there and all of the other fathers as well!

If you plan to stay local this Father’s Day, the weather certainly looks like it will be cooperating with everyone’s outdoor plans. It’s currently 75 degrees and sunny outside with temperatures expected to stay in the mid-high 70s all day long. Great weather seems to be fairly consistent throughout the greater Bay Area as well.

If you are heading out on the road, expect to see some delays in almost all directions, as traffic is slowing down on most major highways.

Be safe, and have a Happy Father’s Day!

Family of Thomas Gonzales II sues for stolen ashes

The family of Thomas Gonzales II has sued StoneMor California, the corporate owners of Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, for their alleged negligence in the stealing of the ashes of Gonzales.

The suit is for a minimum of $3.2-million, which is what it cost the family to have the white marble mausoleum built to hold the ashes of Gonzales.

The ashes were stolen during a break-in of the mausoleum in January of last year. The family is claiming negligence due to the fact that a break-in just a few days before that went unreported to the family.

Gonzales co-founded the software firm Commerce One during the dot-com boom. He died in 2001 from gastric cancer.

BART service running again after fire

BART has resumed service between the East Bay and San Francisco as of 3:45 p.m. Commuters using BART should expect delays throughout the remainder of the night though, as trains will be running slower than normal.

BART service was completely shut down this morning after tracks were melted at the West Oakland station due to a fire at a construction site near the station.

Representatives from BART believed trains would not be running again until at least 5:00 p.m., but repair crews were able to fix the damage quicker than expected. A test train was run around 3:10 p.m., and once the tracks were deemed safe, trains began running again.

Moraga woman injured in Marin crash

Christine Walwyn, 62, of Moraga, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance after she was involved in a car accident in Marin tonight.

According to California Highway Patrol, Walwyn’s Honda Civic crossed into oncoming traffic, causing a police officer driving his patrol car to veer to avoid a head-on collision. The front left sides of the cars collided, sending the patrol car down into a ditch and into a tree. The police officer in the patrol car was stuck inside the car for approximately 30 minutes.

Neither Walwyn nor the police officer were believed to have any major injuries as a result of the crash. A CHP spokesperson said they do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
