Moraga’s Traffic Safety Advisory Committee also has an open seat on it, which the town is hoping to fill with someone interested in the town’s traffic safety. An application for the Moraga TSAC is available online and should be submitted to the town office:

Fire at Moraga Burger King

For those who saw the smoke billowing up over Moraga on Saturday, that was the result of a fire at the Burger King along Moraga Road in the Rheem Shopping Center.

A fire started on the roof of the building near the building’s exhaust fan. When a worker noticed the fire, Moraga-Orinda Fire District was called, and the building was evacuated.

Firefighters from MOFD and Contra Costa Fire District were able to put out the fire quickly, but the fire caused $5,000 in damages.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, and the results of an investigation of the fire have not yet been released.

BART service halted by man on tracks

BART service into San Francisco from the East Bay was stopped this afternoon when a man went onto the tracks, according to police.

All BART trains were stopped and the third rail was turned off just after noon when the man, possibly under the influence of drugs, walked onto the tracks at the West Oakland station.

Police were able to speak with the man and convinced him to leave the tracks approximately 40 minutes later, at which point police took the man to jail.

Once the man was clear from the tracks, BART service started up again just before 1:00 p.m.
