Moraga Skatepark getting a parking lot

Last week, the Moraga Town Council approved the construction contract for a plan to build a parking lot for the Moraga Skatepark.

The construction company hired by the town, Bruce Corone Grading and Paving, will be putting in a one-way in and one-way out style parking lot with 29 angled parking spaces. Two of the parking spaces will be ADA compliant, allowing those with disabilities easier access to the park.

In addition to the new parking lot, some new landscaping  will be put in to complete the project.

Construction is scheduled to start in October and be finished within two to three months.

Campo girls water polo wins tournament

The Campolindo girls water polo team continued its recent dominance in the pool at the Acalanes Invitational. The Cougars making it to the final was not a surprise, as they have made it to the final of this tournament every year since 2009, but the Cougars did surprise some by knocking off defending NCS Division 1 champions San Ramon Valley in the final, 8-7. The Cougars lost in the NCS Division 2 final last season, but they look to be a favorite to win this year’s NCS title.

The Acalanes girls team earned third place in the tournament, and Miramonte finished in fourth. The Dons beat the Matadors, 5-3, in the third place game.

Olson, a 2010 graduate of Acalanes High School, was remembered by friends and family as a kind, confident and fun-loving guy. Many in attendance at the vigil wore bright colors as a sign of celebrating Olson’s life rather than mourning his death.
