BART delays this weekend

BART’s Contra Costa County Crossover Project will be doing some testing starting at 9:00 p.m. this Friday night that will cause delays for Lamorinda riders.

The testing includes trains having to run “Road Manual” between the Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek stations, which will cause 5-10 minute delays. As with any test, there are possibilities of issues arising, which could create longer delays.

Testing is expected to wrap up by Sunday night, barring any unforeseen issues arising.

For up to date information on BART train departure times, BART is encouraging its riders to use their online tracker this weekend: http://bart.gov/schedules/eta/index.aspx

Campo beats Acalanes in thriller

The Campolindo football team may have had some last year’s magic carry over in their game Friday night against Acalanes. In a high-scoring, back and forth battle, the Dons took a 39-34 lead on a touchdown with under four minutes left to play. The Cougars marched the ball down the field to have a third down play four yards from the endzone with the clock almost out. The Dons made the stop, but the Cougars rushed to the line and got the snap off for one final play, which the Cougars scored on to win the game, 40-39. Both teams are now 4-1 on the season.

Miramonte could not stop Dublin running back Ondre Rudolph. Rudolph rushed for 341 yards and three touchdowns in Dublin’s 29-21 win over Miramonte. The Matadors are 2-3 this season.

High school football update

The Campolindo football team lost their first regular season game in two years on Friday night. Despite leading the game twice during the second half, El Cerrito came back twice and won the game, 16-14. Both teams scored two touchdowns, but El Cerrito went for and successfully completed two-point conversions on each of their scores, which proved to be the difference in the game. The Cougars are now 3-1 on the season.

The Acalanes defense came up huge in their game against Tennyson, leading the Dons to a 7-0 victory. The Dons are 3-0 this season.

Despite falling behind by a touchdown early, the Miramonte football team bounced back to dominate their game against Alameda, winning by a final score of 45-7. The win makes the Matadors 2-2 on the season.

Freeways closed after CHP officer shot

A CHP officer and a suspect exchanged gunfire in a shootout on Highway 680 in Alamo this morning around 8:20 a.m. Both men were wounded in the shootout and rushed to John Muir Medical Center.

All lanes of 680-southbound were closed north of Livorna Road and are expected to remain closed until this afternoon. Thousands of people are currently stuck on the freeway with nowhere to go.

As of 11:10 a.m., a driver reported getting on the freeway in Lafayette to head to Walnut Creek and had not moved in over 25 minutes, so the freeway closure is affecting the entire area.

MOFD accepting nominations

The Moraga-Orinda Fire District is currently accepting nominations for new board members. The November election will fill three seats in Divisions 2, 3 and 5, which all cover parts of Moraga and Orinda.

The elected candidate for District 3 would only fulfill two years of the standard four-year term. Dick Olsen who held the seat stepped down in January, so the newly elected candidate would finish Olsen’s term.

Official nominations must be filed with all appropriate paperwork by Aug. 10.

For more information, contact the Contra Costa County Elections Division by calling 925-335-7800, or visit their website at www.cocovote.us.
