First Annual Moraga Jazz Festival

The New Rheem Theatre will be hosting the First Annual Moraga Jazz Festival on Sunday, August 7, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The jazz festival is worthy of a big city show with 18 Grammy-nominated musicians set to take the stage, covering a wide array of instrumental musicians as well as several vocal performers.

Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the New Rheem Theatre box office or online.

All proceeds from the event will go toward victims of the tornado in Joplin, Missouri.

Orinda Summer Concert Series

The Orinda Idol finalists are performing publicly as a part of the Orinda Summer Concert Series this Tuesday, July 19. The concert will take place in the Orinda Community Park from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy during the concert.

On Wednesday, July 27, the Orinda Library will be presenting “Eastern Strings,” as part of their summer concert series. The show, which is free and open to the public, will feature traditional instruments and music from Egypt, Lebanaon, Iran, Iraq and Syria.

Orinda’s Summer Concert Series

While the summer concerts at the Moraga Commons Park get a lot of the local attention, Orinda’s Summer Concert Series is starting to draw a lot of local music fans and families as well.

The concerts in Orinda take place every Tuesday night through the end of July from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The concerts happen in Orinda’s Community Park, so those attending the concerts are encouraged to pack up a picnic dinner and enjoy the music.

Red, White and Blues Festival

On Friday, July 1, the nonprofit group Generation Green has organized Moraga’s First Annual Red, White and Blues Festival. The event will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hacienda de las Flores, 2100 Donald Drive.

Tickets are $25 if purchased online in advance or $35 at the door.

Admission to the event includes a wine glass and wine tasting coupons to be used at the six featured wineries in attendance. Appetizers and live music will also be available throughout the night.

Moraga Summer Concert Series

The Moraga Summer Concert Series, which has become increasingly more popular each year, is back for the summer of 2011. The concerts are held in the bandshell at the Moraga Commons Park every Thursday during the summer from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The concerts are free and open to the public. Food and drinks are for sale at the concerts, but you are also welcome to bring your food and drinks to enjoy while watching the concerts from the hill.

Musical performances in Lafayette next weekend

Next Friday, June 3, Stanley Middle School will be hosting their annual Jazz Cafe event. The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m. in the Stanley Auditorium and features music by musicians from Stanley Middle School and Acalanes High School. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. There will be food, desserts, and beverages available for purchase throughout the night.

The following night, Saturday, June 4, the Gold Coast Chamber Players will be performing in the Lafayette Library’s Community Hall, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for general admission, $25 for seniors and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.gcplayers.org.

Orinda Idol Auditions

Auditions for the 2011 Orinda Idol competition are right around the corner with the competition expected to bring in more talent than ever before.

Online registration for the auditions is open until May 1 via this link.

The audition schedule is:
K-2nd grade soloists – May 19, 4-7 p.m.
3rd-5th grade soloists - May 20, 4-7 p.m.
6th-8th grade soloists - May 21, 9-11 a.m.
9th-12th grade soloists - May 21, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.
K-5th grade groups – May 21, 1-2 p.m.
6th-12th grade groups – May 21, 2-4 p.m.

The Orinda Idol finals are Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Orinda Theater.

One month until Concert at the Res

The 18th Annual Concert at the Res will take place a month from today on Saturday, May 14, at the Lafayette Reservoir. The free event has become a mainstay in Lamorinda culture with more and more people attending each year.

The concert, which is sponsored by the Lafayette Rotary Club, will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Music will be performed by student bands from Stanley Middle School, Acalanes High School, Bentley High School and the Big Band of Rossmoor.

The concert will take place at the meadow area past the boat house. Shuttles will be available to take attendees from the parking lot to the meadow and back.

Big Band Ball Room Dance

On Friday, April 8, the New Rheem Theatre will host a Big Band Ball Room Dance. Music will be played by the Rossmoor Big Band and students from Campolindo, Acalanes and Stanley.

Music and dancing will take place from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. There will also be a dance lesson available from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. for those attending the dance who are interested in getting some pre-dance pointers.

Tickets are $10 and are available for purchase at the New Rheem Theatre’s box office or at the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce office, located at 100 Lafayette Circle #103.
