CBS airs segment on leaf blower battle

Even with an extra hour of sleep, 6 a.m. is still way too early for me to be up on a weekend. Luckily, my trusty DVR was there to record CBS’ Sunday Morning, which featured a short segment on efforts across the country to ban leaf blowers, including the one by Quiet Orinda.

CBS’ John Blackstone interviews Orinda residents Peter and Susan Kendall, Maya McBride and Henry Penny to learn more about the battle over blowers and make us all jealous of the Kendalls’ balcony.

Here’s the link to the segment, because WordPress apparently hates embedded videos.

Earlier this year, the district identified replacing the 60-year-old station, on Via Las Cruces as its top priority. The district estimates it will cost $3 million to construct the new station.

Quiet Orinda goes national — again

I had heard there had been some cameras following the Quiet Orinda folks around, so I asked the group’s founder, Peter Kendall, about it when I spoke with him earlier this week for my story about the group’s re-emergence. Kendall declined to fill me in on what was going on, only saying something big was happening and he couldn’t tell me what it was until he was sure it was going to happen.

Well apparently he’s sure. Quiet Orinda sent an email this evening saying they will be featured on CBS’ Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood this Sunday. The show airs from 6 to 7:30 a.m. If you’re counting, this is the second time the anti-leaf blower group has made national news — it was the subject of a feature in The New Yorker magazine last year. And then of course there was my groundbreaking interview on Australian radio on the subject last year.
