Bocce ball continues to grow

A plan is in the works to bring two additional bocce ball courts to the Moraga Commons Park, continuing the local bocce ball craze. The final plans are to be submitted to the Town of Moraga within a few weeks with a potential approval coming shortly thereafter.

The two new bocce ball courts would go where the horseshoe pits currently are located. The horseshoe pits are rarely used, and the citizens proposing the plan believe bocce ball courts would get more use.

Tee box number five on the frisbee golf course would also be moved to fit the bocce ball courts.

Future of Moraga concerts in doubt

The most recent lawsuit filed by neighbors of the Moraga Commons Park regarding the sound levels of concerts at the park has resulted in the court ordering that an Environmental Impact Report be done.

The court’s order threatens the future of the very popular summer concert series, which has become a regular event for many local families.

The Town of Moraga will file an appeal on the ruling. As a result of the appeal, the court’s decision will be stayed. Therefore, this upcoming summer’s concerts will go on as planned.

The Town of Moraga and the neighbors of the Commons have been battling since 2005 when the first lawsuit regarding the noise levels from concerts was filed.

Watch fireworks at the Moraga Commons

The Fourth of July is one day when Lamorinda really comes together as a community to celebrate our national holiday. While the fireworks show at the Moraga Commons may not be as high budget as shows in San Francisco, it is a unique event where the sense of community can really be felt.

The night portion of Moraga’s Fourth of July Celebration will start at 6:45 p.m. when local singer Amanda McDowell will sing the National Anthem.

Music will be played by Larry Lynch and the Mob from 7:00 p.m. until the fireworks begin. The fireworks are tentatively scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m., but that time can vary depending on how fast it gets dark.

A food booth is also open at the event until 9:00 p.m.
