Lafayette Kitchen Tour

The 12th Annual Lafayette Kitchen Tour is set to take place on Saturday, May 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This year’s tour will visit six local kitchens, showing off a wide range of styles. The event is sponsored by the Lafayette Juniors.

Tickets for the tour are $35 ($25 of which is tax-deductible). A gourmet box lunch can be purchased for an additional $12.

Tickets can be purchased online through the Lafayette Juniors or at Douglah Designs (3586 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette) or Premier Kitchens (3373 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette).

All proceeds from the event will go to a number of local charities that the Lafayette Juniors support.

Youth Ink competition challenges Orinda’s young writers

Young Orinda writers will be participating in the 2011 Orinda Ink competition, presented by the Orinda Junior Women’s Club, this spring. The competition, which is open to sixth, seventh and eighth graders who live in Orinda, allows writers to use any style of writing, as long as they follow the year’s theme. The theme for the 2011 competition is “But If You Really Knew Me,” which the competition organizers believe will allow writers to open up personally.

Prizes for the competition include $250 for first place, $125 for second place, $75 for third place, and $25 Orinda Books gift certificates to 10 honorable mention writers.

Writing submissions for the competition must be sent to Orinda Junior Women’s Club, Post Office Box 40, Orinda, CA 94563, or turned into a school representative by Feb. 18. Competition forms are available online at or at the local schools.

The Orinda Library will host an awards ceremony on April 28, at 6:00 p.m., for the winners of the 2011 Orinda Ink competition.

Moraga Junior Women’s Club makes impact on the community once again

The Moraga Junior Women’s Club announced that it was able to donate $24,000 to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano’s Farm 2 Kids program. The donation amount came from the money raised through the Moraga Juniors’ 7th Annual Garden Tour.

Over $5,000 in donations were also made by the Moraga Juniors to a variety of local organizations. Some of those organizations were the Moraga 4th of July Fund, the Moraga Parks Foundation, the Moraga Education Foundation and the Lamorinda SPIRIT van.
