High school baseball teams fare well in NCS openers

In the NCS Division 2 high school baseball playoffs, Campolindo won their first round game, 2-1, over Concord on Tuesday. The fourth-seeded Cougars will play the winner of the Casa Grande/Northgate game in the quarterfinals at Campolindo on either Friday or Saturday.

In the NCS Division 3 high school baseball playoffs, Miramonte proved worthy of their number two seed, beating Hercules, 17-0. The Matadors will host Alhambra on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals. In the same bracket, the third-seeded Acalanes Dons  won their first round game over JFK-Fremont, 3-1. They will host the winner of the Sir Francis Drake/Tamalpais game in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

NCS Volleyball and Lacrosse

The Campolindo boys are the favorite and number one seed in the NCS Division 2 playoffs. They host Alameda at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the quarterfinals. Acalanes is the fourth seed and host Dougherty Valley at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the quarterfinals.

The Acalanes boys lacrosse team is the top seed in the Division 2 playoffs and will host a quarterfinal match Friday at 7:00 p.m. against a team to be determined. Miramonte is the third seed and is also awaiting its quarterfinal opponent. The Campolindo boys lacrosse team is the 11th seed in the Division 1 playoffs. They play at 7:00 p.m. tonight against the sixth-seeded Berkeley High School.

The Acalanes girls lacrosse team is the second seed and host S.F. University on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The Miramonte girls are the third seed and host Lick Wilmerding in the quarterfinals on Friday at a time to be determined.

Miramonte Boosters Fan Fest

The Miramonte Boosters Club will be hosting a “Fan Fest” this Saturday, May 14. The event, which will go from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., will take place at the Orinda Country Club, located at 315 Camino Sobrante.

The event will celebrate and honor the success of Miramonte’s athletic teams, while raising money to support those same teams.

The event will include a buffet dinner, drinks and music. There will also be live and silent auctions to help raise additional funds for Miramonte athletics.

High school lacrosse and volleyball update

Acalanes continues to be the local powerhouse in lacrosse, as both the boys and girls teams are undefeated in league play.

The Acalanes boys lacrosse team is 8-0 in league and 15-2 overall. Miramonte is second in the DFAL with a 6-2 league record. They are 13-6 overall. Campolindo is in fourth place with a 5-4 league record and a 10-7 overall record.

The Acalanes girls lacrosse team is 10-0 in league and 13-4 overall. Miramonte is in second at 7-2 in league play and 12-4 overall. The Campolindo girls are 5-8-1 overall and 3-6 in league, which puts them in fifth place.

The Campolindo boys volleyball team is one of the top in the area. The Cougars are 6-0 in the DFAL and 21-4 overall. Acalanes sits in last in league with an 0-3 league record and a 3-8 overall record.

High school baseball and softball update

The Campolindo baseball team leads the DFAL halfway through the league season with a league record of 5-1. The Cougars are 10-6-1 overall. Miramonte is right behind Campolindo at 3-2 in the league and 9-4 overall. Acalanes is tied for fifth in the DFAL with a 2-3 league record and a 10-6 overall record.

The Campolindo softball team is the top in Lamorinda, currently sitting in second place in the DFAL with a 5-1 league record and a 6-6-1 overall record. Acalanes is tied for fourth in the DFAL with a 2-3 league record and a 6-9 overall record. The Miramonte softball team continues to have a tough season, as the Matadors are 0-5 in league and 1-11 overall.

Local movie debuts Friday

The film, too perfect, with a major Lamorinda influence will make its debut at the Orinda Theater this Friday, April 29, at 7:00 p.m. There will be two additional screenings at the Orinda Theater on Sunday, May 1, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 pm. All screenings include a Q&A session with the cast and cost $10.

The film was written, produced and directed by Orinda-based movie producer Julie Rubio and stars students from Orinda Intermediate School and Miramonte High School. The movie was shot throughout the Lamorinda area.

On Friday, May 6, at 7:00 p.m., there will be a special screening at Miramonte High School where 25% of the proceeds will be donated to the school.

High school volleyball and lacrosse update

The Campolindo boys volleyball team is one of the top teams in the area. The Cougars are 16-4 overall and are in first in the DFAL with a 3-0 league record. The Acalanes boys volleyball team is in last in the DFAL with an 0-2 league record and a 3-7 overall record.

The Acalanes boys and girls lacrosse teams are both leading the DFAL with identical 5-0 league records. The boys are 12-1 overall, while the girls are 8-4 overall. The Miramonte boys are in second with a 4-1 league record and an 8-5 overall record, while the Miramonte girls are in third with a 3-1 league record and an 8-3 overall record. The Campolindo boys are in fourth with a 3-3 league record and an 8-5 overall record, while the Campolindo girls are also in fourth with a 3-2 league record and a 5-3-1 overall record.

High school baseball and softball update

The Miramonte baseball team is currently considered one of the top teams in the Bay Area, as the Matadors are currently 8-1 overall with two wins in their first two DFAL games. The Campolindo baseball team is currently 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the DFAL. The Acalanes baseball team is 7-3 and 0-1 in the DFAL.

All three Lamorinda DFAL softball teams are expected to have “rebuilding” years, but that hasn’t stopped the Campolindo girls from winning their first two DFAL games to improve to 2-3-1 overall. Acalanes is 1-1 in the DFAL with their loss coming to Campolindo and is 5-7 overall. Miramonte is 0-1 in the DFAL and 0-6 overall.

Campolindo girls move one step closer to another state title

Another Campolindo sports team is experiencing success beyond just the league level, as the girls basketball team advanced to the state quarterfinals with a win Thursday night.

The Cougars knocked off the third seed, Sacred Heart Cathedral, 63-57, in a highly competitive contest. They will be the underdogs in the state quarterfinals when they face off against the second seed, Sacramento, at Sacramento High School at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Miramonte girls basketball team’s season ended Thursday night at the hands of the same Sacramento team Campolindo will face. The Matadors lost, 50-43, in their game at Sacramento High.

Lamorinda girls basketball update

All three Lamorinda DFAL girls basketball teams qualified for the CIF State Division III Basketball Championships, but only two made it through the first round.

The Campolindo girls won their first round game, 79-64, over Christian Brothers. They will play at the number three seed, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.

The Miramonte girls won their first round game, 63-26, over Enterprise. They will travel to Saramento High, the second seed, for their second-round game Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.

The Acalanes girls were eliminated in the first round by Vanden, 56-49.
