Moraga looking for police volunteers

The Moraga Police Department is currently accepting applications for new police cadets.

The volunteer police cadet program offers local students aged 16-22 the chance to get a feeling of what it’s like to serve as a police officer. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.5 and be able to work a minimum of 4 hours per week.

The Moraga police had two volunteer cadets this past year. With both cadets leaving, there is space for at least two cadets and potentially more, as they are considering expanding the program.

For more information, visit http://police.moraga.ca.us/employment.php or email Sergeant Brian South at south@moraga.ca.us.

Dollar Tree “Grand Opening”

Although Moraga’s hotly debated Dollar Tree store has been open for a while, it doesn’t mean the store can’t have a celebration for its “Grand Opening” tomorrow, Saturday, June 18.

The store will be hosting a “Grand Opening” event tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They must be planning for a crowd to attend, as they are holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m.

While it seems a bit strange that the store is having a ribbon cutting ceremony, perhaps it truly is a celebration for the owner and employees after all the controversy that surrounded the store’s opening.

Any guesses on how much the scissors they are using to cut the ribbon cost?
