@!!@#%%$*!@#$(!@#@~&*#%&@

Kansas lost. Not only does that game make me extremely angry, it has also permanently screwed up my bracket. In short, I am extremely mad at UCLA, and I’ll be rooting for Florida next Saturday.

This sums up my feelings nicely

A Modest Proposal

Wow.

As March 29 and April 1 come rolling along, I’m not sure if this would be helpful or harmful to read. I’m sure this idea will have a difficult time receiving acceptance from anyone, but it does give this whole college madness an interesting perspective. Props for the swipe at the US News “Best College” rankings.

A “Constitutional Showdown”?

I try to keep it moderate, but Bush is really laying it on thick with this whole Gonzalez thing, and firing federal prosecutors.

This whole idea of threatening the Democratic Party into trusting politicians at their word, not under oath, is pretty ludicrous. Politicians can see right through each other. They know that if they’re not under oath, they’ll lie. True, they’d lie under oath too, but the risk is at least much less.

I’m pretty proud of the Dems’ decision to issue subpoenas anyway, and not back down from the threat.

Seriously, this is the judiciary we’re talking about. You know, courts? They shouldn’t be filled without Senate confirmation via partisan appointments. Bush says that taking this court would “harm the institution of Presidency.” Well, apparently, separation of powers violates HIS idea of the institution.

“Dancing with the Stars” is Horrible

I still can’t understand why “Dancing with the Stars” seems to have captivated millions of viewers across America. A bunch of washed-up celebrities dancing to ballroom music doesn’t immediately come to my mind when I think of a primetime juggernaut on a major TV network like ABC. (Maybe this is why I wouldn’t make a good television executive.)

Already in its fourth season, I’m not exactly intrigued by the show’s new cast of athletes, actresses, beauty queens and rock stars. Heather Mills, Paul McCartney’s ex-wife, has gained mediocre buzz for being the first to compete with a prosthetic leg. Okay, so she’s acting as a role model for the disabled and I applaud her effort. But I really don’t think that will make a difference to her reputation as one of the most hated women in Great Britain. “Dancing with the Stars,” after all, is based on the BBC series “Strictly Come Dancing,” which makes me wonder why she would cross the globe for the sake of Hollywood.

It perplexes me to see my parents glued to the couch every time this show comes on. They get all excited when the number of their favorite celebrity flashes on the screen, with pen, paper and phone readily available by their side. The lines always seem to be busy when they call in because I don’t think I’ve ever seen “Dancing with the Stars” written on our monthly phone bill.

What I hate the most about the contestants and their pro partners is how phony they look as they waltz around grinning like there’s no tomorrow. If they’re not smiling like their faces have turned to plastic, they attempt to convey passion with a kind of evil eye I’ve only witnessed being displayed on the football field.

As for the judges, they’re lightweights compared to Simon and the rest of American Idol’s crew. They’re too soft, almost a little scared to criticize or put down the celebrities as if the truth would scar them for life. You don’t call a contestant a “revelation” and give them a 5 out of 10. Who in the world of judging does that?

And that annoying theme song! I have to cover my ears whenever I hear it blasting through my living room wall. When the camera occasionally pans to host Peter Bergeron, I start to think that a montage of America’s Funniest Home Videos is about to come on. It took me a while to realize that there aren’t too many things funnier than watching NBA retiree Clyde Drexler and his 6 foot, 7 inch frame wobble through the paso doble.

“Did you get in?”

They’re starting to arrive in the form of 8.5×11 in. sized envelopes and more obvious to spot in the mailbox than the rest of the junk. I wasn’t the recipient of a UC acceptance letter today, but my friend was, and I was happy for her. As for me, I’ll just have to keep playing the waiting game since I didn’t apply to UC Santa Barbara, Davis or Santa Cruz (these are the UC’s that seem to have come out first). I don’t want to check my application status online after watching a lot of my classmates suddenly sway into a depressed state of mind after hearing news that they didn’t get in.

In the following weeks, every high school senior with hopes of furthering their education will know what the future has in store for them. I’m right in the thick of it and am approaching the situation with a pessimistic feeling. I’m not like this by nature, but when it comes to situations where the odds are against me, I somehow feel better expecting the worst. It works sort of like a cushion to soften the emotional blow of something I otherwise wouldn’t be able to bear. I’m thinking: we paid $55-60, sometimes even more, just to get piece of paper that says, “After careful consideration, we regret to inform you…blah, blah, blah.” I don’t want to face this probable moment, but I know that the chances of getting into every single one of my college choices isn’t likely to happen.

Acalanes vs. Bishop O’Dowd - NorCal BBall Championship

The 2007 Acalanes Boys Varsity Basketball team has had the most successful season in the school’s history, winning DFAL, NCS Division III with hardly a rough patch along the way. Today they are in the Northern California Championships at the Stockton Arena. I’m here along with hundreds of fans, hoping that our team will win and advance to the State Championship at Arco Arena in Sacramento. Today’s game is against Bishop O’Dowd and promises to be a close match. I’ll be giving score reports at each quarter so you can keep up with the action.
