Display me: Bay Area artists face off Wednesday

Wednesday (Oct. 15) from 5-8 p.m. is a reception for the Bay Area Currents — the annual juried exhibit featuring artists working in the Bay Area arts scene — at the Oakland Art Gallery. The artists will be on display from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. but you can meet and greet them before, from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Exhibiting Artists: Steve Allen, Alexis Babayan, John Casey, Bill Domonkos, Bradley Hyppa, Andrea Land, Jessica Pezalla, Robb Putnam, Alanna Risse, Michael Ryan, Noah Sakamoto, Allison Watkins.
Bay Area Currents is OAG’s annual juried exhibition showcasing the depth and variety of inspired artists currently working in the Bay Area art scene. Our juror Aimée Reed selected twelve talented artists after reviewing over 250 submissions and going on over 20 studio visits.
Aimee Reed (the juror) earned her M.A. in art history at San Francisco State University, focusing on spatial theory and the previously marginalized artist. She has worked with a variety of artists and curators including LeFalle Curatorial, The Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX, Museum of African Diaspora in San Francisco, Hosfelt Gallery in San Francisco and New York, and with the San Francisco State University Fine Arts Gallery and the International Center for the Arts. Currently she is the Curator of Exhibitions at the Rena Bransten Gallery in San Francisco, as well as a contributing writer for Artweek Magazine and the website Open Door Contemporary Art Projects (www.odcap.com).
