Kiffin comment
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 1:38 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Lane Kiffin’s comment from Mobile, Ala., site of the Senior Bowl, according to ESPN.com:
“I’m not going to comment on anything that has transpired in the past three weeks,” Kiffin said.
The last three weeks.
Just about the time Kiffin wanted to make a change at defensive coordiantor and the Raiders sent out a release saying Rob Ryan would stay.
It all sounds pretty plausible from here.
At the season-ending press conference, Kiffin was resolute in changes he said were forthcoming with the Raiders. It was also clear he believed he had the power to make those changes happen.

I just hope Kiffin is subborn enough to wait this out. Maybe the other Raiders shareholders will realize what a nutcase Davis is and force his retirement. Wishfull thinking, but right now it’s all I got.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
A loser is a loser.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
At what point does The NFL and Goodel come in and say the Raaider franchise is a joke and we are taking it away from Al DAvis and selling it someone who can run it properly. I am embarressed to be a Raider fan
January 25th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Ex-Raider Fan,
That is the perfect word to describe this entire situation…. EMBARRASSING!
January 25th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I am out untill Al is gone. I’m tired of his crap.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Unbelievable–just when it appears this team is getting turned around from the zoo it’s been for the past few years, it appears Al is ready to wreck any progress Kiffin has made with this team.
Just put a deposit on season tix for next year a couple of weeks ago. That deposit will be cancelled the minute Kiffin leaves this team. After over 35 years as a Raider fan, I’ve simply had it with Davis’ absurd mismanagement of this team.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Al needs to go. Dennis Green says he has no ideal what Al is talking about.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
This is sick and the only way the Raiders will win in future is if Al is gone.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
This is such a disgrace, Al has made the Oakland organization a place to avoid for players and coaches. It doesn’t even matter if Kiffen is a good coach or not, the way he is treating him makes it probably the most undesirable coaching position in any sport.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I am withdrawing my deposit too if Kiffin is gone
January 25th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Jerry,
You are the best source for Raider news period. But either you are minding your ps and qs or were asleep at the wheel big time
January 25th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Amazing, only the Raiders could be this dumb, I love the Raiders but it is getting harder and harder. At this rate I am going to have to be a Bucs fan.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
Denny Green = Art Shell with better press conference soundbites. That flushing sound you hear is any hope the Raiders will improve circling the drain.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
I never really got into the whole “Al Davis hate”, but after this crap, F AL Davis! Once again he’s made another terrible call.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
You know up until know I was on Davis’s side, I have had it with the old geezer. I am finally convinced this guy has lost it. Why the hell would you want to remove someone who is starting something very good. Hence the saying “ARE YOU ON BOARD”. Kiffin needs to stay and Davis needs to swim with the fishe’s.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
so Mort reports a story based on rumors after Kiffin says “No comment”? this is news?

Dennis Green??? Uh, sure, why not…
Are you FREAKING kidding me??
Raider Nation, if any of this is true, then our team is truly in shambles…To many of us, Kiffin provided a glimpse of a new beginning. Now that Warlord Al has waved his high hand of authority, and has 1) vetoed the request for a new DC and, 2) asked Kiffin to quit, we are doomed until Warlord Al perishes.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
This is ridiculous Kiffin was the last bit of hope we had to turn this franchise around…I just got a brand new authentic raiders jersey with my name on it from my girlfriend this year for christmas and now i’m embarrassed to wear it what a waste
January 25th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Al…you really have lost it. You’re our Grandad driving down the road. We want you to stop driving. You’re a horrible driver now. You can’t even pick up a cup with one hand anymore…how you gonna drive us around? You’ve lost it. You’re outside the lanes and putting us is really awful situations. Kiffin is the answer and now we’re gonna have another Shanahan situation. Letting a good coach go because of some bull****. We finally start looking descent and you’re screwing us up. This sucks Al…have you noticed our record since the Super Bowl? We have a .238 winning percentage. That’s not even 1 out of 4 games. Awful!!!!! The Raiders suck now Al…so that means you SUCK!
January 25th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Mort says Ryan wants out too. Davis won’t let Ryan go and wants Kiffin to resign.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
i agree w/RaiderNationPA & I’m tired of this crap. Al needs to go
January 25th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
I really can’t help but laugh at this point…this must be what they mean when they say something is laughable…I really can’t stop laughing even though I am pissed.
Remember, the day the Raiders help a press conference stating that Ryan was safe I said Rob Ryan was going to be our head coach…God, I hope I am wrong.
January 25th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
I have been a season ticket holder for 20 years with great seats. I will not renew my seats if Kiffin is fired. Ridiculous! What a shame! Fire Al!
January 25th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
this is the type of nonsense we Raider fans have to deal with! Good luck, Al, trying to find ANYONE with a any kind of credentials for your nowhere coaching job of your nowhere team!! I hate to say it, but the Raiders are officially irrelevant!
January 25th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Al has Kiffin trapped, Ryan trapped, and most of us die-hards trapped too. He is the king of our universe and we all must bow down to Big Al.
BAAAAAAAAA….Sheep….BAAAAAAA
January 25th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
My name might as well be Anti-Al Davis HOWEVER…how much of this recent news is fact? Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be suprised if this was all true but I just think we have to wait it out. There is just not enough concrete information to go off of and NFL news is really slow right now with the exception of the Senior Bowl and The Raiders coaching staff just happens to be involved with it so naturally, we’re going to hear about them. I’m as quick to say, “Let’s get Al Davis out of here” but so far the hire of Lane Kiffin is a great one and there is nothing until something actually happens.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Al Davis sucks.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
I think its time for a raider nation uprising…..its time to overthrow our leader…DAVIS MUST GO
January 25th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
#23
Ryan also said, “Everything’s been cool. Some reporters don’t know s—, so they make a story out of nothing. I’ll be back absolutely. If they want to win a championship, they’ve got to keep us both together.”
I think Ryan goes if Kiffin goes, thast why there haven’t been any changes. Otherwise, Kiff would’ve been fired 3 weeks ago.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Who would want to coach for Al Davis now? Davis has a hard time finding that he hires retards to coach. But when he finds a good canidate he runs them out.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Huff come on, there has been smoke to this fire for weeks and many of us were in denial, but this is more than just smoke, the flames are roaring now.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
THAT’S IT!!! I’VE HAD ENOUGH. Al Davis is a Flippin’ idiot and I’m tossing my childhood team to the curb as there is no hope for years to come as Al Davis has already said that the hierarchy of this franchise will belong to his bloodlines. I don’t believe in Bandwagon’s thus I’m becoming a Texans fan. I won’t stand for it, I’m a relatively smart person and can’t stand to be insulted year after year. “F” this team. If Al Davis thinks Dennis Green is a better candidate than Kiffin it justifies my reaction. Good luck to all of you who chose to sink with the ship. I hope you find joy elsewhere in this wonderful league but I doubt it will ever come by virtue of being a Raider fan. My regrets…They Call Me Assassin.

DAVIS WANTS KIFFIN TO QUIT
Posted by Mike Florio on January 25, 2008, 4:58 p.m.
For several weeks, the status of Raiders coach Lane Kiffin has been up in the air. Though he has said all the right things when the microphone is on, rumors have persisted that he wanted the Arkansas head-coaching job, that he wanted defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to be fired, that owner Al Davis kept Ryan after polling players and concluding that they prefer Ryan to Kiffin, and that Kiffin and Ryan no longer are on speaking terms.
Now, the situation seems to be coming to a head.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Davis has asked Kiffin to resign, and that Kiffin has refused.
If Kiffin quits, he won’t be entitled to any of the $2 million per year that he’s due to receive over the next two seasons, before the team-option portion of the contract is triggered. If he’s fired, he gets it all — less any money he earns coaching elsewhere.
Mort also reports that Davis is considering hiring Dennis Green to be the new head coach.
Kiffin has been the Raiders’ coach for one year, which followed the one-year tenure of Art Shell, which followed the two-year tenure of Norv Turner, which followed the two-year tenure of Bill Callahan.
Since moving back to Oakland from L.A. in 1995, the Raiders have had six head coaches. Soon, that number could increase to seven.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Hey Al…we’re not kidding. You suck if this is all true. You suck really bad. You we’re building such a beautiful house with Chucky…remember…Division Champs…A Team no one wanted to play in the Playoffs…then you got mad at Chucky after the the 8-2 season turned to 10-6. We got snow jobbed in New England and you yelled at Chucky and cursed and acted like an evil old man. You changed Chucky’s contract extension from when you guys agreed in principle earlier in the season. The you shipped him to Tampa and they whipped us in the Super Bowl. Chucky tore down the house you and him built. Now look at it Al…a house nobody wants to live in anymore. You get a bright young guy to come and start rebuilding it…and now look at you. You want to keep a D Coordinator that constantly putt Warren Sapp in pass coverage on 3rd down. Why? So you can say you did it? You suck Al…Chucky tore down the house y’all built…and it will never be the same….because you’re still the same. You SUCK!!!!!

January 25th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
If the Raiders staff was that distraught…you would think they would all march to the Commissioners office and fix this sh!t instead of coaching the Senior Bowl. You see what I mean? If Al Davis was telling Kiffin to resign and Kiffin refused…Al Davis would either file a lawsuit or Kiffin would file for harrassment. In other words, something greater would be happening then just a few words. Besides, how can Kiffin be at the Senior Bowl all weekend while continuing to fight with Al Davis all day?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Kiffin deserves his $$$$, pay the man Al. Let him go and bite the bullet on the money.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
3 weeks ago i said if we have a repeat of the Gruden situation then i’m done with this team. I am just a football fan, that’s it. No more.
Just bough a #2 J-russ baby outfit for my 4 mo. old… guess i need to return it.
My $ is on Ryan being coach this year.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:07 pm

January 25th, 2008 at 2:11 pm

CT RAIDER
January 25th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Al needs to go now! When things seem slightly brighter for the raiders, Al Davis seems to find a way to drag them back into a black hole. Davis needs to retire, NOW!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
If this is all true…which in most cases…I hope it is only because it proves what I have been talking about all along (Which is selfish of me)…then yes, we should all send letters to the Commissioner to help officially remove Al from Ownership of the Raiders.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Im sorry to beat a dead horse but why do you people get your panties in a knot when nothing has happened ??
This obviously is a repugnant situation if true but let something happen before you jump out the window good grief are you all just a bunch of frail little girls whos life revolves around the success of a sports team ?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Alright…use your own name. Geeez!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
I’ve said it before, but today seems like a good day to throw it out there again: Al Davis reminds me of a crazed dictator hiding in his bunker while the world caves in around him, ordering every general that looks at him wrong immediately executed.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Mistabrown – I do believe that is the case with most fans. You know it to be true.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I’m having trouble even wrapping my brain around this Bullsh*t.
I’m now thinking that Fire Kiffin is in fact, Al Davis.
Congratulations, bro. You got it done.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
I think this is different than the “Rob Ryan vs Kiffin vs Al Davis” situation. This is waay worst.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
Wow, you guys RELAX!!!!!!! Jesus H. Christ, this crap goes on ALL THE TIME in these types of organizations. They’ve had some disagreements, Kiff told Davis to fire him, Davis said you don’t like what goes on, resign. Davis ain’t gonna fire him, Kiffin ain’t gonna resign. If it would’ve happened, it would’ve happened BY NOW. Jeez, Everyone calm down, this was last weeks news. Now let’s all go back to work on the draft.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

January 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I actualy can see Kiffin staying as the coach through out the rest of the year. But that would affect the team in such a negative way. Lame Duck Coach
January 25th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
It’s time for the Raider fans to take action. The game has passed Al Davis but sadly, he will not acknowledge it. Memo to “Mistabrown”,
A frail little girl stands by and accepts punishment much like a puppy dog. Puppy dog’s and Frail Little Girls tend to be followers. I’m neither. You should be insulted if you think this is a light manner and can find a silver lining in this scenario. This nonsense has happened for years and we’ve all hung on for too long. You can form your own opinions but the majority understands that this is going to happen and it is not good. Where you one of the “O.J. is innocent” supporters? That is the best way to describe your theory. We all knew O.J. was guilty and didn’t need a formal announcement. Don’t be so optimistic.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I know better than to do this, but…
Now you don’t like Kiffin because he tried FIRE Rob Ryan, the guy you’ve spent your career hating?
Idiot.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Dakota – You and I have shared the same belief regarding Al Davis and I am all for saying goodbye to the man that has embarrassed over the years. I would LOVE to put it in the face of the people I have had to fight about over Al Davis but everything I have stated over that course of time has been a fact to me. We both know how Al Davis is and how he makes crazy decisions and how he has basically dug a hole and thrown the organization in it but…
I can easily say that Al told Kiffin that Rob Ryan was staying because he meddles and does things his way. I can easily say that Al told Kiffin to resign because Al is cheap like that. I can easily say alot of these things because Al Davis does stupid sh!t like that but…
With all that said…nothing has happened so its just so hard to judge the situation properly without action. If this many fans are going to quit after the 1 million mark of rumors then this team is screwed because all of the rumors could be false and the media is certainly winning the battle. I am NOT going to doubt that this information is true, because I can totally see it happening but it hasn’t happened…yet. So sit back, get your popcorn ready (T.O.) and watch the show. Only after the show can you truly give judgement on what has taken place.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Sorry Oakglenn…
This is more than that. Mort reports that Ryan wants out as well and that James Lofton has been summoned to Oakland to interview for a Job on Monday.
Something is brewin…
Dennis as head coach and Lofton as OC?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
What smells fishy about this report is
1- Al isnt dumb enough to ask Kiffin to resign and walk away from that cash.
2- If he polled the players and they want Ryan then why is he considering Dennis Green ?
Now, assuming AL is going to let Kiffin go and hire Dennis Green its not out of the question that Randy Moss could be reunited with Green!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:22 pm

January 25th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
If Al Davis wants to preserve the last remaining shred of his credibility, he needs to find the courage to face the media and tell the damn truth.
Never in the history of world sports has one man built so much, only to see it crumble at his own hand.
I can forgive Al Davis many things but I cannot forgive him for the disrespect he has shown the Raider Nation. Tell the truth, Al. Tell the bloody truth.

MEMO
TO: Raider Nation
DATE: January 25, 2008
SUBJECT: Resignation
FROM: Al Davis
This will confirm my resignation as Dictator of the Oakland Raiders.
I have accepted a position as Executive Director of a reaping operation at a growing retribution company stationed in Hell. I am looking forward to my new position and the challenges that await me.
My last day of work will be April 28, 2008, which should allow me plenty of time to finish my ongoing push to destroy the Raiders by controlling one last draft. I will turn over the position to my replacement, Carol Davis. Please feel free to contact me at any time should you have any questions regarding my past work. I hope that the transition will go smoothly for everyone.
My experience with the Raiders has been very rewarding. I appreciate having had the opportunity to run the franchise that I took to such heights directly into the ground. I wish the Raider Nation and the NFL continued success.
Yours Truly,
Al Davis

That doesn’t sound like the Kiffin I remember hearing about in NAPA high energy, going around barking orders.

I mean at the end of the day in a persons normal life you don’t get an extra 10 min at lunch because your a fan of this team or that team you are like everyone else that works with you! I just heard the news on ESPN radio, Mr Davis, are you out of your freaking mind?!!!! Wait, dont answer that! We all know the answer. You want to give up on Kiffin? you stupid, senile old relic! This quite possibly could be the worst raider news that I have heard since you let Gruden go! Kiffin put a team on the field that for the first time in years actually played good, sound football! despite a 4-12 record. We were on the verge of becoming a playoff team again! I have just about had it with this team! and to think I was going to make a trip out to Oakland to see a game next season. AL NEEDS TO GO, NOT LANE!!!!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Any boss in the world should not “Ask” someone to resign. Have the balls & fire the guy. Face up to your mistakes. AL Davis is just some paranoid old man. He wouldn’t even let his own son have an opinion in the orginazation
January 25th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Al before you leave draft Mcfadden to thank DAKOTA for drafting your resignation letter since your to senile to write!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
No Raiders beat writers at Senior Bowl??? All quotes coming from other sources? Jerry: Tell your boss to send you to the Senior Bowl tonight!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Well at least with everybody jumping ship on a moments notice I should be able to get great seats to all home games. I am a Raiders fan. Not an Al Davis fan, not a Lane Kiffin fan, not a Rob Ryan fan. I am a Raider fan. And even if the ship is sinking, which is what these latest rumors suggest, I am going down with the ship. I don’t care if I’m the last one standing in an empty stadium, I will still be there. Sorry if that pisses some of you off or whatever, but it’s the way it is.
Raiders for Life…I’m In!

Huff24 – You are on record saying that if Kiffin is gone, you are gone.
Do you still stand by that statement?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Anyways…back to work. Peace.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
Did anyone notice that James Lofton, a candidate for coach, was FIRED by SAN DIEGO? And Dennis Green? WTF????????????????? Might as well bring back Callahan for OC also. Davis you loony old codger, what are you doing to the Raiders?????
I love the Raiders and am always staying a fan, but Davis needs to relinquish control over the team or just step back in and coach it himself because he failed to learn the lesson we all did in pre-school, WORK WELL WITH OTHERS.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
FIRE KIFFIN – I never said that. If that was said, it was probably an imposter.

Al Davis. Just die baby, just die.
Or resign, or retire, or……
January 25th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
A quote from above that exemplifies so many others today:
“Amazing, only the Raiders could be this dumb, I love the Raiders but it is getting harder and harder. At this rate I am going to have to be a Bucs fan.”
To which my first thought is:
only Raiders fans can be this gullible to act with such intensity each and every rumor as if it were preordained fact.
Relax people. When real news comes out, then we can have discussions. This is just more media hyperbole.
The Raiders, because of the mystique around Al Davis and their policy of not responding to media announcements, are the biggest target in this down time era with not enough Super Bowl news around to fill the time of the full time army of media assigned to the NFL.
What will they invent next? Al Davis is going hire OJ Simpson as “Conditioning Coach”?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Huff24 – You said it 3 weeks ago. I’ll look it up.
Maybe you were just a little upset.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Jerry – Please send this stream of frustrated comments to Al or the PR buffer for Al so he can see what the people paying his bills think about the way he has Managed this team for the last 6 years since he moved Gruden out. Nice work Al – at least you are doing things your way. You have the control buddy. Nice job.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
FIRE KIFFIN – Find that record you speak of. I’m a Raider for life. I do have to go to work though so Peace.

January 25th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Zymurge,
Raiders’ fans are well aware and growing tired of the mystique surrounding Al. As I have posted before Al Davis is the Britney Spears of Football the Mystique you speak of is only in ALs’ mind!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I think I am done.
I stuck with this team through their loosing and moving to hell A and through the slings and arrows of all those haters out there.
But this is emberrassing. Al has finally tipped the scales where is doing more harm to the team than good.
Don’t give me anything about “not being a real fan” or any of that. I am, maybe better said, I was, a real fan. I am sick to my stomach because I am a “real fan.”
But this relationship has gotten abusive and I think it may be time to just walk out that door and let al do his thing to the detriment of the team that I used to think could do no wrong. I simply give more than Al gives back and so I gather some of my self respect give Al the finger say thanks for the memories, and find something else to do July through January.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
if this does go down there’s no chance green would take over, its all smoke screen, losing kiff would be bad and most probably bite us in the ass down the line, see shan and gru, fifty/fifty chance al looks to ryan or another young dc type, but the big key to the situation is what happens to coach knapp/cable/flip/rath keeping the continuity with jruss and oline/run game, in jruss i trust
January 25th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Dakota – Abandon ship.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Mistabrown,
I’m very competent in understanding what I read thus my reply is justified. I never commented on your position of the situation being repugnant. My issue with what you’ve said derives from your optimism. You would rather wait to hear that this story is indeed true, as opposed to foreseeing that it is true. Media reporters make a name for themselves based on credibility, and as wrong as Mort has been in recent months, he knows this is true enough to re-establish his credibility. So prepare for a repugnant situation. I’m not going to get into a violent correspondance with an idiot. If you didn’t understand the O.J. reference then you should practice what you preach and defend your statement about understanding what you read. Regardless of how you tab the issue as repugnant it doesn’t change your mindset of waiting to hear bad news when you already know what the news is.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Al Davis = Howard Hughes……
When he starts wearing Keenex boxes as shoes and his fingernails get 6″ long, send him to the home.
Kiffin will probably coach all next year because Al is too cheap to fire him.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:45 pm

January 25th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
FK,
Can’t, I am a crew member.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Relax drama queens.
Kiffin was minor league, he will not be missed.
Dennis Green is not a bad coach, use your bown brain, don’t listem to the talking heads.
He went to two NFC title game and won the NFC North nearly every season he coached Minnesota. All this while always having the worst defense in the NFL.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Fellas, how do you like me now? It’s a tough job but somebody’s got to do it. I’m tough enough for it.
All I want is for the Raiders to win. They’re not going to under the current Management setup.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Damn, sigh another poor season awaits. Another new coach…..that’s it I’m done. Can’t take it anymore….

January 25th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
The Raiders are totaly losing all of our faith, I’m totaly losing all faith in Al Davis. I’m just sick and tired of all the bullshit.
Amy Trask, Al Davis, all the uppers in Oakland your losing ticket sales, trust in your fan base and making it hard for us to “stay on ship.”
hope your happy…….
January 25th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
If Kiffin goes…..I’m out…….This makes me Freaking SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Read between the lines in December:
Players at the post game interview at rib place statement on the air “if kiffin comes back”, two ways to read that statement. Bad season anyone could be gone or the way i thought, players actually thought Kiffin was gone. Remember players asked quizzingly at last meeting with coach, “I guess that means your coming back”.
Then NO memo from Mike Taylor about these rumors. Al runs a very paraniod organization and thus the hastly tomne to Mike Taylors memo. Stop it as he is talking for Brittney spears.
I really love going to games and a new coach make me think. After Callahan i conceded, well three years we will be back now three years is quickly turning into 9 years.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Another thing, I don’t put Chris Mortensen in the same class as Adam Sheefer, Mortensen has a reputation for inside information and truth, and he values his reputation.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Good Stuff FIre Kiffin…you still have that Imagine poem.

January 25th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
I can only echo the comments made by most of you. Those of us in The Nation that have any semblance of a sane and rational mind can clearly see that if “Mr. Davis” is making a play to force Kiffin’s hand, this franchise is truly the mockery that so many had labeled it so.
The nature of sport is to have fans of differing opinion, but how anyone can really believe that making a change in direction will bring this franchise back to quasi-respectability is truly beyond my comprehension.
By no means do I think of Kiffin as a savior, but he does represent the greatest hope that we have seen since the other young headstrong coach scowled on the Oakland sideline.
For my part, if Kiff goes, so does my belief that the Raiders can/will turn things around.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
I’m waiting for the “Isiah Thomas considering leaving the Knicks to become director of football operations for the Oakland Raiders” rumors.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Assassin, again you need to stick your memo in your bunghole. There was no optimism in my post unless you consider waiting for something to happen “optimism”. I dont.
Im not going to correct you again and you show no evidence of being able to comprehend what you read.
FYI…I didn’t address your OJ reference.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Alex Davis, you have lost your mind. Maybe Randy Moss should be the new coach of the Raiders. Hey Al, Randy did not want to play for the Raiders and he won’t play hard next year after he gets a big contract.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I remember Mort saying Dennis Green was going to be the Raider coach last time Shell was fired. If anyone becomes the head coach it will be Ryan

I Love my Team,
But fear the Management(AD)…
It’s been this way for along time, and here he goes again!
I know he’s forgotten more football than I’ll ever know, but now he’s forgotten way too much!
Will this nightmare ever end???

Huh?????
January 25th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Here are some facts for you dumb asses who want Kiffin out.
1) Davis runs off Gruden, we lose the Superbowl to Gruden. You do the Math.
2) Davis fires Turner, Turner takes the Chargers deep into the playoffs and beats us twice. once again you do the math.
3) Davis hires Art Shell and bed & breakfeast and we go 2-14. yep you guessed it do the math.
4) 5 years 100 coaches and even Gannon said it was an issue as to why this Organization sucks ass.
Maybe Al Davis needs to fire himself. it’s abviously not anything the coaches are doing wrong, they don’t have enough time to do so.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
I have 20+ sets of season tickets for my company……if he’s gone…….so am I……I’ll take clients to see the Niners.

January 25th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Geez this is depressing, if true. Not unlike the wackiness and chaos at this exact moment surrounding the Washington Redskins coaching vacancy and a power-mad and seemingly paranoid owner. Sound familiar? The skins all but announced that Jim Fassel was about to be hired … and the fanbase flooded the team’s comment and message boards with so much hostility that they almost crashed. The team then put the hiring ON HOLD. Not bad for a fan reaction actually having some effect. Doubt that would work for us … but I still think it’s worth a shot going on record at feedback@raiders.com
I still think Kiffin and co. should stay for several more years at minimum. Russell’s development alone requires consistency on the offensive coaching side. But also just to continue a rebuilding process that for the first time in years actually looked promising.
Two weeks ago I went into the off season really optimistic that my two favorite teams were finally heading back to elite status (eventually). Now both are in a competition to be the laughing stock of the league, blowing up a good thing, and replacing it with … what?

I’ve always respected Al Davis. No more. He has turned the team I have spent so much time and energy cheering for over a lifetime into an absolute laughingstock. I am embarrassed, completely embarrassed.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Even if we somehow came together as fans & protest the Raiders orginization, Al Davis won’t give a crap!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
This is a complete and utter embarrassment. We continue to be the official laughing stock of the league. I cannot believe how crazy Al Davis is. Does he not realize he is destroying the legacy he is so proud of? Lane has us going in the right direction, why screw it up now? What is this going to do to JR?
We don’t need any more set backs you idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jerry, can you get us some meaningful information. No one is closer to the Raiders than you are, how is Mort getting this story?
January 25th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
This is another reason why the Raiders have trouble developing players. The Off-season is always f’d up.
I feel bad for JaMarcus, and fear for his development.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
boo Al Davis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Man, I had thought we had climbed above Atlanta, Miami and the 49ers to emerge from the NFL basement…we just took the express elevator back to the basement. I am going to petition the NFL to allow us to have the #1 pick again, we deserve it.
J-Russ will have to suffer through years of BS, just like poor old Tim Brown. New coach and system every two years…sorry JR, your career is over before it ever had a chance. I now understand why your agent held out for the $$$.
January 25th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
I have been committed to the raider for more than 25 years. It would not surprise me at all if this were true. I have been saying for the last couple of years, the Raiders will never be a consistent winner until Al dies. I know that is horrible to say, but until he is gone, our beloved team will never be a solid winner. We are unfortuneately becoming a laughing stock. What a waste. Lane Kiffin…Raider Nation is behind you. Give Al the finger. Make him fire you. As much as I might not have agreed with all your decisions, we were a much more competitive team. Please Al, I am begging you, resign. Go Raiders.

You’re right about Mortensen. He was dead on about Eli Manning being out for the year. Solid, inside information. Those last 2 statements were not meant as an attack on you KK, but on Mortensen. I feel the need to say that so you don’t try to kill me again.
I will believe it when it is real news, not rumors. If you are right, I am man enough to admit it to you or anyone else that I was wrong, which is more than I can say for most. I just hope that this is all BS but there’s nothing anyone one of us can do that would make a bit of difference one way or the other.
I do happen to agree with you(did I just type that?) regarding the structure, particularly regarding personnel decisions. A real GM would be just the normalcy that this organization could use.
Bottom line is no matter what I am a Raiders fan and I hope for the best and expect the worst.
I’ll still be here when you all come back in a few years.

I hope Kiffin does realize how much the fan base is on his side, 99.9% uf us like the direction this team was going. I hope someone can at least communicate to him that he does have our support even as Al Davis screws us and him over.

The reason the national media get the stories, is because these stories are leaks from the principals, and they get wide distribution in the national media.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
I love everyone revolting. Al Davis is a stubborn ass. How does any owner get in a situation where he could potentially have to pay 3 coaches at the same time. The Steelers have had 3 coaches since 1969. No stability, just a lame renegade attitude that no one is afraid of and that is irrelevant.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Yup you make a good point Dakota. If Kiffin is gone the team has to learn another scheme. Imagine how much more Gallery is going to suck
January 25th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Some of you really make me laugh….out loud.
“If Kiffin gets fired I’m done as a Raider fan”
LMAO! That’s some powerful loyalty to a first year bush league coach who went 4-12.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
RaiderDogg,
That is what fans are I believe are growing tired of fearing for the worst! Its like it has been burned on the peoples memory chips and burned to players memory card when they sign something will happen and they will lose vs winning the game instead of 12-4 4-12!
January 25th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Post #79 that link just about proves how dumb Davis has become. Moss couldn’t do that with us because THERE WAS NO TALENT TO PLAY WITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Moss didn’t go to NE he would have had a fair year and noone would talk about the bad trade we made.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Any chance we could get Greg Williams from Washington if they pass him over for their head coaching position? Anything but James Lofton or Dennis Green.
Wait, that’s right, AD like offensive minded head coaches cuz his claws are still sunk in the defense…^%##^#
January 25th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Did Al make Kiffin put his name out there for the SEC head coaching job at Arkansas? Al deserves LOYALTY to HIS Organization. If you through your hat in the ring for another head coaching job doesn’t the owner have the right to ask you to leave? Isn’t that a sign of disloyalty? Gruden wanted Notre Dame and got booted. Kiffin wanted Arkansas and now he needs to be booted.
Come on, you guys are crying for coaches that HAVE NO loyalty to the organization. Gruden’s bags were packed before he accepted Tampa Bay’s offer and Kiffin had his bags packed the MINUTE he got the Raiders job. This is Kiffin’s stepping stone. He got it. He will get another job and fail miserably at it again.
I will NEVER say that these coaches think this way and its not because they deal with Al, we all know its Al that makes them want it to be a stepping stone, but until they find a coach willing to be a Raider and not use it as an audition for a new job, I have to side with Al.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Coach Kiffin please punch Al Davis after your give him the finger.
and take your money and run.

January 25th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
This organization is a joke. Seriously, even as a diehard Raider fan since childhood, I got to say that this is the last straw. Ill always have fond memories of this team, but the last few years have been too hard as a fan. It is now impossible to hope in a return to the success of the past
Mr. Davis, you’ve alienated this lifelong fan. You yourself have set this team and organization back years. I hope someone has the gall and fortitude to fix the mess this place has become.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
You’d think at this point that AD would realize he has not had a “smart decision” in years, going back to his trade of Gruden.
Yeah, getting Kiff was a good decision, and now he wants to undo it. He’s made some crappy choices and can’t stand the pain of fixing them the right way, Look at the contract negotiations, he fumbled away the #1 pick’s first season over a Million$ that he ended up giving him anyway, This man is CRAZY!!!
He’s like a gambler that can’t stop himself and is doubling up, time after time to get back his losses, when in reality all he is doing is digging a deeper hole.

Fire Kiffin is quite the idiot. Have never posted here before but you are clearly an idiot. Must be a Bush follower as well. Al Davis is clearly an old paranoid mob boss threatened by anyone with a plan. You talk of firing Kiffin with your stupid handle, tell me jackass, who would you hire? Now you can say something to try and piss me off, but really, who should Al Davis hire to fix the Raiders? I have been reading this the entire season and have never heard that from you except for cynical stupid responses just to fire people up. Who?

Al Davis had to go into the college asst coaches level to find a HC. HE finds a gem in Kiffin by doing that. Now, if this is true, not even the coaches in the college level would want to work for Al Davis. What’s Al going to do now, look into the high school level for a new HC?
January 25th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
JohnS,
Thanks for the link to Nancy Gay’s article. I’m a huge Nancy Gay basher, but I must admit, it wasn’t really written in the Raider-hater tone she usually uses. I hope the “stripping of power” is pure BS.
This is gonna be one heck of an offseason…
BTW,
That 300 Mountain Blvd, Piedmont address for Al Davis is actually correct. His next door neighbor is a good Piedmont High School friend of mine.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

John S regarding #147,
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, That was too funny…..Sad of course, but funny.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
Been a Raider fan my whole life. I have always stuck up for Al. The one thing I always had on my side was the fact it was plain to see that no one cared about winning as much as Al.This crazy story about trying to get Kiffin to quit has made it painfully clear that Al has officially gone off the deep end. Someone please medicate this man before the only head coach candidate will be me. Don’t get me wrong, I may be the greatest madden player of all time; but pretty positive I shouldn’t be coaching the Raiders. I really don’t see how Kiffin can remain as the coach with all of this. So when he is gone I am gonna start a petition to get Al removed some how cause I don’t want to have to wish him dead.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
I want to see Kiffin go George Castanza and keep showing up for work, when he’s clearly not wanted, but no one wants to fire him, so George gets his office door walled up and works in a closet…wouldn’t that be a great way to get ready for a top5 draft pick?

WHY_BLAME _AL,
When was the last time Al Davis made a smart decesion? Better yet, when was the last time something positive happen when Al Davis made a call? You’re kiddin yourself if any coach in the pro level would come & work for that douchebag
January 25th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
In a nutshell it is all about selfish pride. Al Davis cannot stop being a micromanager. Football has evolved and Mr. Davis has not. Mr. Davis needs to let his coaches coach and keep his old carcass in the office where it belongs. I have been a raiders fan since 1976 when I was 3yrs old. I saw them play in two superbowls which they won and that debaucle vs Tampa Bay which they were blasted out of the water by their ex coach Jon Gruden. It all boils down to inconsistency on the owners part. Look at the track record. All the coaches that have coached the raiders after Tom Flores left. They were either fired or wanted out.

I had the envelope addressed ready to send in a check for 2008 Raider season tickets, I just ripped it up. I am so embarrassed to be a Raider fan. Kiffin deserves better, I wish him well.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Al Davis doesn’t even let his own son have an opinion in football matters. Thas how much of a senile old fool Al Davis is.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
We have hit rock bottom with this news. Kiffin
with limited talent did a good job this past year
and Ryan’s defense let him down numerous times.
NOW DAVIS WANTS TO CAN HIM!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
The greatness of the Raiders in in the future. This is the team of the decades. No other
AFC west team has won more Superbowls, and that trend will continue into the 2010’s. Great thing are ahead as this team will just keep winning baby. We just need to keep our commitment to excellence and have faith in Mr. Davis.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
Why is Kiffin a GENIUS all of a sudden? IS it for winning 2 more games than Art Shell, and the same amount as Norv Turner, Mike White and Bill Callahan? Or is it for bringing in a zone-blocking scheme? Maybe for sticking with Josh while freezing out Culpepper for the last 6 games? For not committing to a QB until game day? What has he done to get this praise?
January 25th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Even if Al Davis did see our comments by way of Jerry sending them, us emailing, writing or any other way it won’t make a difference.
Al Davis isn’t going to be influenced by any of us because he knows something, come game day; you’ll be there or be watching somewhere.
Until the day comes where we stop watching (never), Al doesn’t give a *
And how may of us are really posting on this blog anyway? Maybe 20 regulars with multiple identities who half of which don’t even see eye to eye.
We are powerless, [insert brave heart quotes here; scraps for Davis' table]
And for those that say Al haters willing to walk away where never raiders fans, you are delusional. IF this country suddenly became a dictatorship and there was a revolution would you be saying you were never an American? Al Davis is just that, a dictator and he is just as delusional as you are.
That said, I’m still here, I want to be out but more so I want to see a change and that’s why I will be watching come game day. I’d love to stage a walk out/fan black out but seeing how we are small in number(even if we are 1000 strong) and not all of us agree I guess I’ll just watch and wait.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
What ever happen to the good ole day when you could get two guys in white coats to show up with a staight jacket and toss someone into the loony bin?
January 25th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
I have to admit Kiff didn’t due a great job with our draft. He wasted two 3rd round picks. If he was really upset because he didn’t get the Arkansa job, F@ck him.
With that said I can’t wait for Al Davis to step down, even though I know that’s never going to happen. Al Davis built this franchise and his breaking it to. F@ck Al Davis
January 25th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
This is going to be the last straw for a lot of Raider Fans if Kiffin leaves.
Kiffin has given us what has been sorely lacking since Gruden left…and that is HOPE.
There is no hope for this organization if Kiffin leaves…empty seats at the stadium & double digit losses piling up.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
“I’m not going to comment on anything that has transpired in the past three weeks,” Kiffin said.
Or it can just mean he’s not commenting on the rumors that “transpired in the past three weeks” Jerry.
Wait and see mode.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
And this nostalgic team of decades stuff is a load of crap that people say when they are delusional and the game has passed them by. It actually reminds me of the Lofton quote that I read somewhere in this or the last post, something like “A receiver who catches well in traffic just has trouble getting open”.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Not very well thank you! A wonderful friend of mine, who lives in Ireland, has this great saying for an occasion such as this, “Enough Alrrrready!” The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome! Hang in their Kiff get your money, you’ve got your contract. Been a fan since I was about nine years old and they played at Frank Youell field and you could see the game being played through the bleachers as you drove by on Highway 880. This is very disconcerting news and it is definitely time to move on. Dennis Green and Rob Ryan running the asylum?

If you could not see improvment your are a cracker.
Our Rush offense was it’s best in YEARS, we where competative in almost every game, the team never gave up like they did on Art Shell. If you want Tom Walsh back head to Idaho and give him a wet Kiss.
Denfense let us down but yet Al wants to hump Rob Ryan.
If our Defense stepped up we would have at least been 8-8.
Go back to grade school

I agree the NATION should go on strike. Al Davis must step down. We can all rally during the 2008 Dratf at Rickys. Until Al goes I no longer go to any more home games.

I don’t shop at Safeway because I hate the owner. I like the people that work there, even the manager, but the owner is off his rocker! I’ve been a Safeway fan from the beginning but this is the last straw!
Boo effing hoo!
No wonder everybody thinks Raider fans are a bunch of b!tches. Just read any post on here for verification. I wish there wasn’t a link on espn.com to this blog. I hate to think that people think all Raider fans are a bunch of whining little babies! You should be ashamed. No matter what is happening take it like a man!

WHY_BLAME _AL Says,
Granted Kiffin didn’t win 10 games & he did make some mistakes. But he got this team playing competitive which has not played that way in years. But its not just that we think Kiffin is this great coach, its about Al Davis constant meddling that causes this team to stay in at the bottom of the NFL. What has Al Davis done that warrants our constant allegiance to this team?

January 25th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
AZ Raider, you are exactly right. Davis is a dictator, and I guess that is allowed in the NFL, but it is no way to run a successful franchise. What Raider fans need now is a Brutus to end our misery. Long live the republic and long live the Oakland Raiders. Death to tyrants.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
So true AZ Raider…we will always support no matter what happens.
Now back to Kiffin, do we know for certain if those drafts picks were Kiffin’s or Al’s? We don’t really know who is making decisions do we?
Regardless, my main focus now is the draft and free agency in the offseason to see which direction we go and just pray that whoever is calling the shots that the players on the field can still make a difference.
Wishful thinking I know but got to find something positive in all this drama!
January 25th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Wow. You guys still haven’t relaxed???? Jeez, here, don’t you guys remember this with Jon Gruden?? Gruden is going to Ohio State, Gruden is here, there and everyhwere. Every few weeks Gruden was fighting with Davis and going somewhere. And no, Gruden wasn’t run off by Davis. That’s what happens when you have a hot commodity coach. It’s like when your girlfriend is hot, dudes talk to her, ask her out. Maybe some of you guys don’t know about that part.
Nancy Gay comes out and says Davis stripped Kiffin of all his power. That’s LUDICROUS!! Amy Trask completely refutes that, Amy is a lawyer and frankly, Kiff would’ve filed a grievance with the league if that would’ve happened or sued for breach of contract. One thing I can tell you about Davis, HE SUES OVER BREACHES, he doesn’t get sued over breaches. Kiffin, when he signed on, had contractural specificities that allow him a lot of control. Which was wise of him, giving Al Davis’ long history.
Next, contrary to what you all believe, James Lofton and Davis are on good terms. I’m sure Lofton is coming up north here to explain to Davis what happened.
Here, I’ll let you guys in on what happened to Lofton in San Diego. When the lame Dischargers choked another playoff game even tho Brady threw 3 pix, all the players went to Lofton, not Norv. Talk about being UNDERMINED. Norv fired Lofton on the spot, and Lofton would be a great hire here in Oakland in any capacity. I’m sure Kiff wouldn’t want him, but Lofton has been over in SD for 6 years, which corresponds to the lame Discharge rise. Coincidence??? Probably not.
Lastly, yeah, I know, Oakglenn is an idiot, I don’t know sh**. Remember you heard it from me here first: Holmgren will be coaching the Whiners by this time next year.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
There’s a difference between being a loyal Raider fan, and deciding not to spend $3,200 on tickets because you don’t agree with the way the organization is being run.
For those of you who are calling people out for jumping ship.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:31 pm

January 25th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Also, I’m sick & tired of all the nostalgic talk & what Al Davis has done to this organization. They won a Super Bowl in 81. I was negative 2 months old when they won! So what if he build this great empire that is the Raiders. Look at what he’s doing to it now! The Raiders will NEVER be that team we all expected it to be because AL DAVIS IS A DOUCHEBAG!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I know we ALL bleed Silver and Black, but I STRONGLY believe no one bleeds it more than Al. I think what people FAIL to realize is Al doesn’t haven’t long left on this earth. He wants to win a Superbowl before he dies. I truly believes he is trying to win at all costs right now. Going 4-14 to an owner who may not have more than 4 years left to live is PURELY not acceptable.
He wants to put a winner on the field, not wait for 4 years that he doesn’t have.
I think there is a method to his madness. I think if we all felt we had one more year left to live, we would sell out for a SuperBowl at all costs. I think that’s what Al wants, and with every loss he gets more anxious because he knows time is running out.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
Oakglenn, interesting information on Lofton, where did you get that?
January 25th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Do you guys see why I was sweatin you for the last 3 weeks? This is important sht. Something Fishy around here.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Why would Lofton be a good pick up? Its not like he will have full control over the team. Not even if Lombardi cam back from the dead to coach the Raiders will he be able to turn it into a winning franchise because Al Davis would f*ck that up too
January 25th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Oakglenn -
I agree with you wholehearterdly accept for one thing. Holmgren will not be the coach of the Whiners, he will be hired in a similar capacity to Bill Parcells in Miami. He will be Vice President and GM or something that involves full control, especially in the personnel department.
Nice post OG.
January 25th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
I just emailed the raiders organization….
“If the rumors are true and Lane Kiffin is fired, you will lose my 12 season tickets that are coming up due this year. I know I am not the only Raiders fanatic that is threating to give up their tickets, rumor has it thousands of others will be doing the same. Al Davis can make any decision he wants, but the fans have finally had enough. We will make our voices heard…”

Agreed, but thats why he hands out 2 year contracts and has changed coaches so frequently. Gruden went 8-8. That was close enough for Al to give it more time. Had Callahan went up against anyone else but Gruden in the SB, the Raiders would have a ring.
I think Al feels that 2 years is enough time to get a team in position to win it all. Gruden proved that in a way and so it confirmed Al’s belief.
I would say I do not like the way things are, but I have my whole life ahead of me. Al doesn’t, and in speaking to Lifetime Raider fans (meaning over 70), they want a championship now and Kiffin, for all the praises he is getting on here, don’t see him doing it anytime soon with his way of coaching and managing games. Its a catch-22..

I beleive that it makes more sense for AL to say “maybe my methods aren’t working, so let me try this”; instead of going thru coaches like I go thru bags of weed.

I agree whole-heartedly, but if you played sports and during practice you played against your offense, you already know the plays and its harder for the offense to do anything. Tampa Bay knew the plays, plain and simple. heck, Jon Lynch said plainly on TV during the supoer bowl, they are doing exactly what coach said they would do. They knew the plays and where Rich was going.
Its the same Reason Don Nelson beat the Mavs last year. GSW wasn’t better than the Mavs, Nelson put them together and the plays, so he knew how to stop them.

I appreciate your comments as well.. Thanks.. but have you ever heard the saying its hard to teach an old dog new tricks? It has been well documented that Al doesn’t think much of coaches. He thinks more of players. Remember as the former coach himself, he thought that players were the reason the team was successful, not the coach. That being said, I doubt he would think, maybe I’m the problem. he’s thinking, the Coach is the problem.
If everyone feels Ryan needs to go and Al says Ryan stays and Kiffin goes, that’s all you need to know how valuable he feels a head coach is.

Yes I do live in the bay area. Unfortunately I have a family of 3 that requires my financial support. I’m lucky if I can go to 2 or 3 games a year. I always go to at least 1 game a season. Basically what I’m trying to say is that I can’t afford it or even more I can’t justify that amount in my budget. If I could I would in a heartbeat. It’s actually a dream of mine to one day get ready to order my season tix on the lower level, West Side. I would do it today, right now, if I had the money to do so. Until then I do what I can to catch games whenever possible.

But thoes of you who think that any letter we right to anybody in the raiders front office would make any impact you are more out of it then AD. WE can do nothing but wait and then when it happens we either jump ship or start talking up the new puppet. LOL.
Until that happens all our Ad must go comments are pointless and just a waste of blog space.:)
January 25th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
We as fans have power of the purse. If Al doesnt like that, move the team to irwindale…
January 25th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

I love lane kiffin…great guy, had things goin in the right direction…lve it to al to mess it up.
But u gotta hang in there, and if u leave the nation never come back.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
Raider Fan..Unfortunatly, your a co-dependent…
January 25th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
A few points…
Has anyone actually seen the letter that Al supposedly drew up?
If not true the press are realy going to look like idiots on Monday when Kiff hires Lofton.
If this is all BS then Al needs to come out now and say so because the season ticket holders and the players deserve it…
If this is all true then the other owners need to see what it will take for Al to give up his duties…
If true the this is indeed a sad day. The man is insane and we are witnessing his demise.
If true then I will now be able to play golf on Sunday instead of traveling all the wat to flippin Oakland from Tahoe.Who knows my wife may like me again..
Brace yourselves lads, the seas are getting stormy…
January 25th, 2008 at 4:27 pm

January 25th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Would someone PLEASE give AL Davis an overdose of ANYTHING so he can die and take his old decrepit ass to his grave so this franchise can move on to more positive results. PLEASE..
January 25th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Chris Mortensen also said the sky is falling….everyone take a deep breath and realize the insanity to this article from “unspecified sources” – of course they are!!!! There is no story and it does not even meet the common sense test. Do not be so easy to freak….hell that is why they make this stuff up.
#1 – Al Davis would never leave a situation like this burining – he would just be gone money or no money.
#2 – Kiffin would never stay in a situation like this he would not have to – from your reactions it would be easy to sue and win the case over the evil empire.
Davis is still the Raiders and have some damn faith until we hear the facts….we are on track and J-Rock will be the man for the next decade. The losing years are done.
I know Lofton would be coming to interview for a position Al likes him and a division rival just crapped on him – GET IT!
January 25th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
I DEMAND ANSWERS AL DAVIS!!!! NOT ANOTHER FN MEMO EITHER!
January 25th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Raider fan – I can’t waste the money on tix anymore for a team this dysfunctional. Been a loyal fan since LA. Ticket holder for a few seasons. but in this economy, and if I am expected to lay down that kind of cash then i want results damn it. I will always be a fan. just not a paying one until Al is gone and we put a worthwhile product on the field… you can’t blame me. I come all the way from tahoe for christs sake..
January 25th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
It very well might not be true at all. The entire football comunity wants to see the Raiders and their fans in misery for ever!
Die Raider Haters!
January 25th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
this situation seems to have a lot to do with randy moss,s steller season in new england.al wants to know why he didn,t play like that for the silver and black.look at the qb,s moss had in oakland. aaron brooks , kerry collins , andrew walter none of whom will ever be confused with tom brady.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
I’ve got it! The league should offer to give Al a job, like vice commissioner, which means that he has to give up his current one.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
yeah we are going the raiders to the davis’s
January 25th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Lets all pool our money and hire Tony Soprano to have a little talk with Al behind some italian restaurant in little italy…
January 25th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
are you kidding me. we are a laughing stock and in Fing sick of this @$^#. F AD……….i hope he dies sooner than later
January 25th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
im getting sooooooooo drained of rooting for a pathetic product. all you AD lovers got to be questioning this move as borderline seanile.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Amen brotha.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Somewhere Art Shell is looking for his hat…..
Like one person said, Kiff brought us HOPE.
Dennis Green,, ptf please…. Besides looking like the Nutty Professor and doing a bang up job with the Cards does this recylced has been bring you that feeling of HOPE? NOPE.
January 25th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Dennis Green is who we think he is.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
bottom line, is that Davis should let coaches coach. there defense was one of the worst over the last two years in stopping the run. look it up. Ryan should be let go long with the defense line coach. you win with defense & you must stop the run. how many other games would they have won if they would have been average? maybe 2 to 4? we’ll never know, hopefully it changes but one player will not make the differnce. only a unit (defense) can correct this, and that start at the top on the defensive side. a change should be made, if kiffin doesn’t win 8 games next year he’ll be gone, that’s the short of it.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
After thinking about it for a while, I agree that Kiffin should not have tried for that Arkansas job. We’re not inside and we have no idea how bad it might suck to work for AL, but Kiffin’s putting himself out there for these college gigs (including the Michigan gig) was very indiscreet.
Davis is just too proud to take that kind of insubordination.
What sucks though, it that it just comes at an incredibly bad time.
AL may be justified in firing someone who showed that kind of disloyalty, but it kills us at this most crucial time.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
I’ve been watching this board for a while now…never had the need to write anything until now. I’m a lifelong Raider fan since the days of Kenny Stabler when the Raiders and Steelers had their annual matchup in the playoffs in the 70’s.
The coaching situation since Gruden has been atrocious along with the draft, free agent signings..you name it.
It all leads back to one individual….AL!
He needs to curb his erratic behavior and take his role seriously or else let someone else do it.
I’ve been tortured by my buddies with “Chokeland Fader” comments for years as I’m sure many on the blog have been also from their associates……this situation with Kiffin will only make matters worse.
Dennis Green????? Seriously now.
January 25th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
I wonder what’s going through Russells mind right now?
January 25th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
NOT TRUE NOT TRUE… you guys are people that listen to CNN.. do not give in to BS!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Kiffin is scheduled to interview former San Diego Chargers receivers coach James Lofton on Monday for a potential job on the Raiders’ staff, Herrera said.
Lofton, who was fired earlier this week by San Diego, interviewed for the head coaching job in Oakland the previous two years. Lofton lost out to Art Shell in 2006 and to Kiffin last year.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
This is Bull-Fu%king-Shit. I can’t take it anymore from this WALKING DEAD owner. He’s not alive he can’t be.RAIDER FANS,we are in the darkest days of the Devil and he’s preying on us.Alzheimers Davis you’re worse than hell could ever be.You can’t be sane by doing this to THE GREATEST FOOTBALL FANS IN AMERICA.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
I read pretty much all the posts and is no one stating the obvious? If these “rumors” are true, then Kiffin can’t possibly coach the Raiders next season! What free agent will want to play for us? Why would Fargas choose to come back?
Everyone and their sister knows about this situation now. Can you imagine Kiffin leading meetings and coaching up players in this dark scenario? I think that would be the weirdest thing i’ve ever heard of.
So it’s over, right? Kiffin will have to quit right?
January 25th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
On the 5th anniversary of Robbins going bonkers, this is how the media does us. They love to kick us when we are down. I say “Rally ’round the family with a pocket full of shells”. Silver and Black for Life!!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I will always be a Raider fan, win, lose or tie, Raiders till I die.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
OK GUYS I HAVE BEEN A FAN SINCE 1981 AND I HAD IT….
I RE-NEWED MY SEASON TKTS FOR THIS YEAR BUT NO WAY.
IF KIFFIN GOES…IM DONE WITH THE RAIDERS AND AL DAVIS
THIS IS RIDICULOUS…LOTS OF MORONS MAKE FUN OF ME CAUSE OF MY SILVER AND BLACK BUT THIS IS IT…
DEAR MR AL DAVIS
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND……YOU HAVE LOST ONE OF THE MOST LOYAL FANS YOU WOULD EVER HAVE…I FLY TO THE GAMES FROM TEXAS EVERY SUNDAY FOR THIS CRAP.
WAKE UP OLD MAN……
IM TELLING AGAIN IF KIFFIN GOES IM GONE TOO…AND LOTS OF OTHER RAIDER FANS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY…..
GO COWBOYS!
January 25th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
I am old enough to have watched the Raiders from the begining. I waited 5 years in the early 70’s to get season tickets. I was in the first 100 to camp out at the Coliseum for 3 nights for Super Bowl XI tickets. I REFUSED to watch NFL games when the Raiders were on “their extended road trip”, and everyone said I was insane when I told them: “Mark my words. They WILL be back. Smogville won’t work.” Even when everyone said “no team has every returned after leaving, I said, “it’s a lock. I’ll bet my house on it.”
Now, we have a Coach who seems dedicated in turning the team around. It was so horrible to watch them last year, and then Kiffin comes in and does a fine job in his first year, doubling the win total, and the club played hard, and was in all games but two. Al, I know what you are trying to do. You’re trying to drive the OAKLAND fans away, so when the lease ends, you can do the unthinkable…again. Get the hell out of the 70’s – get the hell out of our lives, but leave the team.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
I’m sure I can’t say anything new that all the TRUE RAIDER fans have not said already about how Al has finally lost it. Being a season ticket holder for the past 25 years (even in L.A.). I’m just beyond angry and frustrated that we have continued to fork out our hard earned money to this foolish owner. It’s time for us to finally admit this is the end. Good luck to all the loyal Fans you deserve better. It time for us to come down to “Reality” and jump off the Titanic.
January 25th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I forget who, but someone said earlier today:
“Al Davis had to go into the college asst coaches level to find a HC. HE finds a gem in Kiffin by doing that. Now, if this is true, not even the coaches in the college level would want to work for Al Davis. What’s Al going to do now, look into the high school level for a new HC?”
Well let’s see. If Kiff didn’t take the Raiders job now where would he be in NFL eyes? Probably not much closer to an NFL HC job than he was at this time last year. And now, according to the “I’m done with the Raiders! crowd” he’s proven himself as the next coming of John Gruden and is a lock for the next open HC job in the NFL.
That’s not a bad leap to make in one year, even if that one year is a tough one with a meddling owner. I don’t know about you all, but I’d gladly take a huge promotion to VP in a big company working for a known terrible CEO, because with that on my resume, I’m now a legit candidate for other VP jobs.
So what bright upcoming college coordinator that thinks he has the stuff to be an NFL coach would take this job? I’d say pretty much any one of them with brains and ambition to accelerate their career.
Oh yeah – you also end up with a very lucrative contract that pays you several years for only having to work one [assuming that the paranoia ends up as truth and Al fires him]
January 25th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Speaking of the “If Kiff goes I go too crowd” you know what I say to you:
Don’t let the door hit you in ass! You won’t be missed, because you aren’t true fans. No matter how much paraphenalia that you’ve stocked up and what sacrifices that you’ve made in life to see your team play for no matter how many years, if you walk then you aren’t a real fan.
Yep, it’s been 5 bad years. Maybe it’ll take 5 more to straighten out the ship. C’est la vie! Look at it this way. How many of you that were watching the team when they were the winningest team in sports and seemed make the right moves far more often than the wrong were thinking back then, “Man, one of more year of this boring, constant success, and I’m walking!” I’m going to say that the answer is right around zero.
So if those same people are ready to walk awa when the going gets toughest, well, what can I say? The weather is always going to be fairer somewhere else and I’m sure that there’s plenty of room on those bandwagons for those fed up, so-called Raiders fans.
Get a grip people and get some perspective while you’re at it. Go talk to a Cubs fan. Go talk to a Cardinals (Arizona that is) fan or a Bengals fan and tell them how it’s been a whole 5 years since your team has been to the Super Bowl and that you’re frustrated that it looks like it might take a few more years until they might be good again. For everyone of you that’s wants to walk away, there’s 10 truly loyal fans of their team out their that will look down on you as the fair-weather, whiny biyatches that you are.
If you aren’t in for life, for better or worse, then you were never in to begin with!
January 25th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
What AFC west team last won an AFC championship? How many owners since Mr Davis have done so? Just like gambling it’s a roll of the dice slanted towards those with money. All who dis Davis #@%& off and die!
January 25th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
any coach dumb enough to play mccown deserves to be fired- Al gave kiffin the chance and kiffin is an ungrateful little kid- i side w Al
January 25th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
This is horse-Crap
Not that I though Kiffin was setting the world on fire, but he represents stability to an unstable franchise.
However, after further review, is Kiffin relevant at all?
everybody knows Al makes personnel decisions, Al decides what free agents to sign, Al decides for the most part what draft picks to get, who to trade, who not to trade, what defense to run, who to play, who not to play sometimes. Al runs the show for the most part. The head coach here is as irrelevant as it gets.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Zmurge,
Man how big an idiot are you and the rest of you in denial…You’re like that stupid wife who everyone knows her husband is cheating on her yet she refuses to see it and chooses to be crapped on over and over. If Davis keeps serving you a plate of crap are you going to keep eating it because your faithful and “a true Raider Fan”…MORONIC…HERE’S TO AL DAVIS MAKING IT TO THE CENTURY MARK SO ZMURGE AND ALL YOU OTHER COOLADE DRINKERS CAN KEEP EATING MOUNTAINS OF CRAP FOR THE NEXT TWENTY YEARS…BECAUSE THERE AIN’T NO GOOD COACH, NO GOOD FREE AGENTS WHO ARE GOING TO COME HERE AND SERVE UP CRAP…YOU’RE EVEN GOING TO START SEEING DRAFT PICKS’ AGENTS START DEMANDING TRADES OR PULL AN ELI…WAKE THE F#$% UP….OR ENJOY THE BIG FAT CRAPBURGER AND ANOTHER 4-12 SEASON!
January 25th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Doesn’t Denny Green’s name come up every freakin’ year for the Raiders HC job? He doesn’t even get interviewed yet his name always comes up. These reporters are a joke. Mort just heard what Adam S said Thursday or so on the raido, then reported it as if it came for his “source” and added on a lil Denny Green flavoring to make it sound original. And let everyone eat it up. He has to get paid for some kinda “inside” info even if he makes it up.
Adam S didn’t even stand by what he was saying on the radio …distancing himself with the “There have been some people that have said to me, right or wrong” …what a joke for a statement. Basically he can’t stand by it. Just providing some flavor to keep his perception of the “inside guy”
January 25th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
Old cranky men tend to make irrational decisions.
If Al thinks that Dennis Green is the savior of the Raiders, he should’ve hired him last year.
He needs to step back and allow Lane to do his job.
This s**t is stupid.
If Lane’s not the coach next year, Al can do his best to find another 30+ year fan. Cuz I’m out.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Al Davis does not read these messages. We’re crying on deaf ears. Deaf ears that don’t even matter! You want to do something about it brother’s and sister’s of this mighty nation? Lets boycott our team. Lets boycott Al Davis particularly! Buy no tickets, buy no jerseys until he steps down, or at least hires a GM. No, until he steps down! Pride always loses.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Zmurge,Hit it on the nose. For years my freinds have told me how dilusional and myopic we are as Raider Fans. They are right. Next…Let’s follow the piper off the bridge or buy some swamp land in Florida. For all the people that say they are true raider fans. Then do something about it. Let davis know he is a moron. Doesn’t matter what he did 30 years ago. We weren’t fighting a war in Iraq 30 years ago. Do you think any of our soldiers give a d— about how dilusional our owner is. Why I’m I wasting my time right now. We all need to get a life and it should not include supporting an idiot owner. WAKE UP Al Davis doesn’t give a d— about any of you so called Die hard fans.. You just pay his bills! He’s too Bi-polar to know what the h– is going on.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:43 pm
Lets have it play out like this on a reality series.
1. Fire Lane Kiffin
2. Raider Nation pays to keep OJ Simpson out of jail
3. With OJ’s lack of incoming revenue and the fact no coach in their right mind would work for Al OJ is hired as the Raiders head coach.
4. Raiders hire Tonya Harding to lead Raideretts.
5. Tonya and OJ begin a twisted love affair and plot big Al’s demise.
6. Al is waxed when his walker unexplainably comes apart causing him to fall down a flight of stairs at Mount Davis following a preseason loss to the Calgary Roughriders.
7. All of this could be shown sunday afternoon on BSPN2 during a raider blackout.
I am no script writer but it seems the one currently working for the Raiders is in line to be hired to direct this reality series and as has proven his talent. Besides it would be more entertaining than any of the past five Raider seasons of live practice.
January 25th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
I would rather root for the possibly approaching senility led Raiders then any of the other 31 teams in the leauge. The DIEHARDS get it. We will stay the course, through thick and thin. That is what being a Raiders fan is all about. It has always been and will always be an us against the world mentality. I for one relish it. If you don’t, then maybe you are not a Raiders fan. Silver and Black for Life!!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
it almost makes you think al davis is benefitting from the demise of the nation. he should stand up in press conference and let everyone know whats up.i cant even think of any other organization that operates like this except maybe the bush administation.
January 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
It comes as no suprise to me that even though the Raiders have not been good for 5 years the haters continue to kick us when we are down. Spreading rumors, true or not. That makes the DIEHARDS even stronger. Rally round the family with a pocket full of shells. Silver and Black for Life!!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
AL’S BETTER DAYS HAVE PASSED HIM BY. Kiffin was a great hire for the Raiders. Now Al’s not Happy. That’s His Fault, He should have never traded Jon Gruden away. That trade cost the Raiders a Super Bowl, It cost the true Raider fans a chance at glory,Period. Now He’s got a Young intergetic coach again and he is not happy. Well F–k Al Davis on this one he is wrong. The fan like Kiffin and so do the Players and with Kiffin, the Raiders will win again, No dought about it. Kiffin was handed a crappy team when he got here. What did Al exspect a super bowl after what he put the fans thru for 4 years. As a fan who has been here during the glory years and stuck by the raiders during the Crappy year SPENNDING MY HARD EARNED MONEY ON THE RAIDERS I am disipointed in Al Davis, i have looked past his faults including what he Did to Marcus and That was Wrong. But now he’s got a good coach and a team that is moving in the right direction, but because of his ego he going to F–k this up again and the sad part about this is the only people that really suffer our the FANS. Trust me people didn’t show up at the games this year to see Al Davis they showed up to see Lane and how he was going to get the Raiders on Track so Al and the rest of the Raiders Organization Needs back off and Give Lane a chance to Finish what he started. If Al replaces Lane well get used to being 2 – 14 or 4-12 becaused that what we have been since we returned to Oankland except when Gruden Was here
January 25th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
raidermike, r u smoking crack? the members of the nation, & I have been one for more than 35 years, r tired of senile al davis running this organization into the ground. we can only take so much and we shouldn’t have to deal with the same old routine year after year. we finally have some hope with gruden #2 and al dumbass wants him out. oh, yeah, lets keep the crappy defensive coordinator who took the supposed strongest component of the team and turned it into the most inconsistent. enough is enough. i’ll hold onto my money until al leaves this franchise!
January 25th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
[...] Raider Mike wrote a fantastic post today on “Comment on Kiffin comment by Raider Mike”Here’s ONLY a quick extractI would rather root for the possibly approaching senility led Raiders then any of the other 31 teams in the leauge. The DIEHARDS get it. We will stay the course, through thick and thin. That is what being a Raiders fan is all about. … [...]
January 25th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
If all of this ends up being made up(which it is) is big Al as bad as you guys make it seem? Sure hes made mistakes just like anyone…. Tell me a team thats always good and that never had bad streaks? Sure ours was really really bad and alot of it probably has to do with Al, but he is doing somethings right. After all it was he who brough Kiffin in the first place. Im not sayin Al is right or wrong or whatever, cuz I have alot of respect for him and also alot of doubt. I just think he deserves more from us fans, yes fans that put up with alot, but still most of whats out right now is MADE UP….I repeat MADE UP and the shreds of truth have been blown up. I just recommend people chill and wait it out then make your judgments…. Cuz if Lane stays and we have a winning record is Al automatically a genius? I doubt the media would say that, but if it wasnt a winning record they would be the first to chop Al’s head off.
January 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
I think we are on the right track with Kiffin and we have alot to look forward to. Its lookin very good and we ARE on the way UP. Dont loose focus people JEESE!!
January 25th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
if kif goes i go. al is lost. there aint a 78 year old man in the world that thinks he kicks ass like this dottering fool does. he is the worst thing for that which he loves the most.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
Al doesn’t love the raiders anymore, He loves the raider fans even less. He only loves his ego and the perception that he is above public scrutiny.
Come on already- as a long time season ticket holder I want to know that the leader of this organization is committed to his coach and his fans.
LET KIFFIN COACH AND MAKE IT PUBLIC THAT YOU SUPPORT HIM AND HIS POWER TO CHOOSE HIS STAFF.
I’m not a blind follower and will stop paying into a ego maniac’s secret fantasy- ITS GETTING OLD AL, GIVE IT UP!!
January 25th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
I think this decision to remove Lane Kiffin as head coach has one man`s name written all over it former Raven`s head coach Brian Billick which makes sense. There is only one head coaching position left in the NFL and Jim Fassel will definetely get that position being that the Redskins have hired Jim Zorn as there OC.I`m quite sure that Lane Kiffin lobbied very hard for his dad Monte to become the Raiders DC and that probably made Rob Ryan very upset.I`m sure he spoke with his brother Rex who suggested that Al give Brian Billick a call.Billick never had a star quarterback to work with and would love to come in and develop Jamarcus Russell. If Denny Green was going to be our coach ,he would have been here already.Brian Billick is a proven winner, offensive guru, and a players coach. With a coaching staff that would include Brian Billick,Rob Ryan,Tom Cable and James Lofton and FINALLY A FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK the future is very bright. So to my Raider Nation family don`t hang your head this is a time to celebrate. If you had a choice between Kiffin and Billick who would you pick?
January 25th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Just to shake things up a bit, let’s say that many of you get your wish and Al goes. And the new management takes over. How happy are you going to be if that new ownership turns out to be like the Yorks?
We currenlty have an owner that cares deeply about winning first and foremost. Agree with his moves or not, I’d love to see the weakass argument claiming that Al doesn’t care about winning first. Instead we could be talking about one of those penny pinch owners that cares about the bottom line of the business as the first priority, and only cares to win if it makes them more cash.
Be very careful what you ask for. Because the very first thing that a frugal business team running the Raiders would do is look at moving to a place more lucrative than Oakland.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
Calvino’s post made me think of something that I don’t have the answer to. Let’s just say that Kiffin is out, either on his or own or with a boot up his ass. How would that impact Knapp, Cable and the rest of the O staff? Would they all stay intact and just report to the new top guy?
What I don’t know — and I’m asking the collective knowledge here about — is how much did Kiffin have to do with bringing Knapp and crew over? Were they his picks or Al’s? Where is their projected loyalty?

Raider Nation Duped Again?
Just like back in the 50’s when the whole radio world fell for the “War of the Worlds” story being broadcast on the radio as truth, it appears that the Raider Nation has fallen for one of the oldest tricks in the book. One of the dirtiest too.
While the Raiders are quietly attending to the business at hand, in Alameda and in Mobile, certain members of the media not named Len Pasquerelli have been circulating a false story about a rift between Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin and owner Al Davis.
According to his source, only named as “KoolKell”, was initially positive that everything the media told him was true. Well apparently they weren’t kidding. They fed him this breaking “story” about the Raiders brass to see just how far it would go. “KoolKell” proceeded to infect one of the most popular NFL blogs on the internet with all of his ill informed “points of view”. Apparently he is not very popular either because he has been catching a lot of flack, and rightly so.
Well “KoolKell” it appears that you have been fooled my friend. As the Who once said I hope that you “Won’t Get Fooled Again”. We won’t hold our breathe over here at profootballtalk.com.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
I am a fan of the oakland raiders for 40 years.
Maybe I speak for the rest of us, maybe I don’t.
If I do, this organization is in big trouble over the recent completely incompentant management of Al Davis.
We all know what really is going on here and frankly,
I am done until Al steps away. You finally have a good young coach that has the attention of the locker room in an NFl environment that requires consistancy, particularly with losing teams like the raiders today. You cannot win with Al Davis doing what he is doing to this team today. I regretfully submit my resignation as an Oakland Raider fan until Al has stepped away from the game he used to know. Good bye!
January 25th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
as a raider fan since 1968 all i can say is i’ve had enough. i am so sick of al’s crap year in and year out. i live in steeler country and they know how to treat their coaches. it is so embarrassing to be a raider fan. if kiffins let go then i;m out….
January 25th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
I have been a Raider Fan all of my life. I can not believe all of the BS. Al is Mr. Raider if you hate Al how can you like the Raiders. Nothing has been set in stone as of yet. The media loves doing this every year we have a losing season. They do not cover us for shit when the season is on, so how do they all of a sudden have news on us. I just want to win, I do not care who the coach is. The players need to tackle and make the plays regardless of who has the game plan. One last thing Chris Mortensen does not like us, and I do not like him either. He has been known to be full of crap!!! Raiders for Life!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
If the reports are true, then we can say with certainty that the emperor Davis has no clothes. Al Davis has always been about two things: control and winning. Through 1984 and in only one year after that (the Super Bowl with Tampa Bay), those two things produced good results. Now his need for control results in the team’s not winning. They’ve had three okay years since the return to Oakland, and one of those resulted in a Super Bow appearance. Otherwise, the franchise is out of step. When Randy Moss leaves because the franchise is “unprofessional,” that’s like Al Capone leaving Chicago because of the crime-problem. Mr. Davis needs to choose now between control and winning. Hubris will make him choose control. The same thing happened to George Halas. It’s great drama: give up control, Al, and you’ll win. Doing things differently is fine when you win; when you don’t, it’s foolish and ultimately tragic. Randy Moss dogged every play with Oakland because he hated the franchise and its bizarre ways, not because of anything to do with Kiffin. Moss likes New England because of the coach, whom the owner lets run the show. Want one more Super Bowl before you die, Mr. Davis? Let Kiffin run the show. Be smarter than Halas. Do what everyone expects you not to do: change. Stop drafting pure athletes that take forever to develop. Draft great football players who can step in immediately. The “projects” like Alvis Whitted don’t win championships. Cliff Branch was a great athlete AND a football player. Ted Hendricks was great because he had great football instincts. Control is over-rated. Winning isn’t.

Rumors regarding the Raiders’ coaching situation is nothing new. Time will tell…
but IF – and I mean IF this is true, this fan of 30+years is taking off his Raiders’ tire cover, and is finished. It’s the Gruden situation all over again. Al’s ego is so big he would rather do things his way and lose than allow a coach some authority ( and thereby some credit ) and win.
It may be time for the league to intervene.
January 25th, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Raider Dave 83,
Did you see Al Davis on TV saying he wanted Lane gone? If you did, which I doubt, please tell me where so I can watch it also. I think it is just a bunch of haters stirring the pot and kicking us when we are down. And, if the rumors turn out to be true you knew coming in that Al Davis is the Raiders. It has hurt the last few years but I will never waver in my allegence to the Silver and Black win or lose. I’m in even if they bring in Ryan Leaf to coach them. I hope that does not happen though. Silver and Black for Life!!!!
January 25th, 2008 at 9:50 pm
What a true disappointment the last 3 plus seasons have been from a coaching and personnel standpoint. After watching this organization for over 20 years it amazes me that the man (Davis) who once gave us all so much to cheer for will bring the franchise down by his inability to let go.
He had recruited a perfect heir to the throne (Gruden) a few years back. After running him out of town he seems determined to do it again with Kiffin. Advice: hand the controls over to Kiffin as you should have done years back with Gruden and rest knowing that after your gone the organization that you made great can live on.
January 25th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
I hope Kiffin & the North team totally kick the South’s teams ass in tomorrow’s senior Bowl game.
Maybe it will send some sort of message to AD that he has something special, albeit still young & naive, and not to do something stupid like getting rid of the best thing that has happened to this team since JR’s acquisition.
There was finally a ,light at the end of the tunnel and now AD wants to turn out the lights because his ego is getting in the way.

ZYMURGE-
Iam and will always be a Raider fan. Just won’t [ay unitl I see the front office give the same commitment that I am. Sorry. Let them feel the pain for making so many bad decisions.

Who said Billick? Are you on CRACK?…probably……regardless NO GOOD COACH WILL COME TO THE RAIDERS WITH AL PULLING THIS CRAP…A GOOD RAIDER FAN IS SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHEN THEY ARE BEING FORCE FED CRAP SO THEY BOYCOTT CRAPPY MANAGEMENT. A STUPID RAIDER FAN IS SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T MOVE FORWARD, BLINDLY HOLDS ONTO THE PAST AND WATCHES THE REST OF THE LEAGUE PASS THEM BY.
DO NOT BY THEY GUY WHO’S TWO TOUCHDOWNS IN THE BIG GAME IN HIGH SCHOOL HAS TURNED TO FIVE TOUCHDOWNS. GOTTA LET GO OF THE PAST OTHER, ESPECIALLY ONE THAT IS LEADING YOU STRAIGHT TO THE CRAP YARD.

January 26th, 2008 at 12:27 am
Oh, please let this be really bad reporting. This can’t be happening.
January 26th, 2008 at 1:00 am
al davis is a complete joke, and anyone who defensds him is an even bigger joke. it’s time for the NFL to step in and take over this franchise. al davis WAS great. he is NO LONGER great. in fact, he’s horrible.
i can’t believe i’m saying this: today, i’m embarrassed to be a raiders’ fan.
January 26th, 2008 at 4:14 am
I always read that it’s up the coach to “sell” Al on his philosophies. So when Kiffin apparently sold Al on dumping a player who didn’t want to be there, who was a risk to any team accquiring him given his past brushes with law and admitted playing when he wants, so it’s suddenly not Al’s fault for being “sold”. Al can’t accept responsibilty anymore, nothing is his fault. It’s like in his age he has regressed to a child again. Blackholepriest what has your source given you to feed us, we are waiting?
January 26th, 2008 at 4:19 am
Ive been a fan for many years. My mom worked for John Madden when he was our coach…. I have to put this team on the table untill Al is GONE. PLEASE minority owners, find a way to get this @ss out of here! Im cancelling my season tixs

You were awsome AL! You made the Raiders what they were (GREAT)and what they are (TRAGIC)… It’s time to resign, give the reigns to Amy Trask, your too old ol pal and the only Commitment to excellence is a commitment to irrelevance. The pride and poise has turned into pride and arrogance…
Time to go Al… Go relax you’ve earned it. Take a not from the great Joe Gibbs and learn when you just need to go!!!
I’LL ALWAYS BE A RAIDER FAN BUT WON’T FOLLOW, BUY A TICKET NOR ANY MERCHANDISE FROM THE RAIDER ORGANISATION UNTIL YOU, AL DAVIS IS GONE…
IT IS IMPORTANT TO JUDGE A MAN BY HIS DECISIONS AND YOUR DECISIONS FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS AL, JUST FLAT OUT SUCK!!!

AL NEEDS TO RESIGN! THIS COMMITMENT TO WINNING IS A FIGMENT IN YOUR IMAGINATION. ALS COMMITMENT IS TO HIM WINNING AND GETTING HIS WAY ALWAYS. WHILE NEVER TAKING RESPONSABILITY FOR HIS SCREW-UPS.
DUDE, EVERYONE GETS OLD, JUST ASK JOE GIBBS. THERE IS A TIME FOR EVERYTHING AND AL’s TIME HAS PASSED.
NEW OWNERS??? WHO EVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT SELLING THE RAIDERS??? AND THE LAST I HEARD AL DOESN’T OWN 100% OF THE RAIDERS…
THE CALL IS FOR HIM TO RESIGN NOT TO SELL. BESIDES, WE ARE THE RAIDER NATION AND MOVING FROM OAKLAND TO (___________) FILL IN THE BLANK, IS NOT SUCH A TASTLESS IDEA FOR MANY OF US WHO “DUE TO THE COST INVOLVED” ONLY GET TO SEE THEM PLAY ONE OR TWO GAMES A YEAR SO, DON’T ASSUME YOUR PAIN IS EVERYONES.
January 26th, 2008 at 5:55 am
I have felt trapped, but now this is just too much, and I have a way out until Davis dies or the NFL removes him. I have posted this idea everywhere I can so that maybe others who feel they have nowhere to go can do the same. I am ordering the local Miami stations on Dish, reading the Miami Herald on-line, and getting excited about watching the Tuna go after New England. I have had email discussions with Chronicle and Tribune writers about the fact that Raider fans for life have nowhere to go, that we are trapped, and we are not stupid (following a senile old fool)-just nowhere else to go. Well, technology is stepping in. I am now a Miami fan until Davis dies or is removed. Have a good life.

Me to withdrawing my deposit on season tickets, if Kiffin gone…he has a plan and needs to have the right players to execute such plan, but the team was not an embarrassment this season and is beginning to turn it around.
January 26th, 2008 at 8:59 am
As a Raider fan for over 40 years, it is sad to see what this person is bringing this once proud franchise to. How can anyone in their right mind want to coach this team under the duress it is under now. How can any fan fork over any money for tickets, plane trips to travel to games, clothing, etc.
I don’t know how the partnership is set up, but the minority partners some how have to line up and get this guy out of there or there won’t be a franchise left.
This is sad.
January 26th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Someone mentioned Davis’old motto: “Pride and Poise.” Today, he has unbelievably excessive pride and absolutely no poise…
January 26th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Al Davis is a complete joke! I say Oakland fans should circulate a petition around to get this ass*@#e to sell his shares so someone competent can take over an run this organization properly. With Davis at the helm we are doomed!
January 26th, 2008 at 9:53 am
I have been a loyal Raider fan since 1960. I am a current season ticket holder. I will always be an avid Raider fan. If Kiffin goes so I will not renew my 2 season tickets. I wonder how many fans will fallow suit.
Al it’s time to step down.

January 26th, 2008 at 10:52 am
I totally feel for those that are saying that if Al fires Kiffin then they are at best putting their allegiance on hold an at worst giving up completely.
But so much of this is based on a combination of misinformation and lack of information. Meanwhile, you all are viewing Kiffin as the second coming of John Madden.
How do you KNOW what is going on behind closed doors? How do you KNOW that every bad decision is Al’s and every good one is Kiffin’s? You don’t! How many moves that Kiffin wanted to make that might have been failures did Al veto? How many of the right moves that were made were argued against by Kiffin and still pushed through by Al? The answer is something that nobody from our fan vantage will ever know.
It is just possible that Kiffin really is not the answer, while it’s just as possible that he is. I don’t think that anyone can argue that it was a pretty substantial risk to give a (from the NFL standpoint) complete unknown such a lofty position. To Al’s credit, when he makes mistakes with HC he’s never been shy about pulling the trigger to ammend it, based on the long line of recent firings and replacements.
Again, the attitude here is that Kiffin can do no wrong and Al no right. The reality is probably much closer to the middle, but the media, and along with it many of the kneee jerk reaction fans, are all too quick to ASSUME that all the wrongness is Al without real knowledge to back that up.
Think of it this way. The reports have it that Al pulled rank in order to get JRuss despite Kiff’s choice. If you believe that it was the wrong pick, then come out and say so while you are claiming Al is wrong.
January 26th, 2008 at 11:08 am
Hey Zymurge,
You myopic moron. Best teams with best talent right now. Pats, Chargers, Colts, Packers, Jags, Giants…..what do they have in common? A HANDS OFF OWNER WHO LETS THE GM SELECT PLAYERS AND THE COACHES COACH. The only exception is the Cowboys, but that team was built because Jones finally saw the light and let Ireland and Parcells build the team. DUDE STOP WITH YOUR DENIAL AND DEFENSE…IT’S FRIGGIN’ LUDICROUS AND YOU ARE THE WORST KIND OF RAIDER FAN BECAUSE YOU TRY AND FIND EVERY EXCUSE FOR DAVIS WHEN IT’S PLAIN AND SIMPLE LOGIC: DAVIS IS THE PROBLEM.
January 26th, 2008 at 11:16 am
To Zymurge.it does’nt matter whose right or wrong. You can’t keep getting rid of coach’s after one year. One year tells you nothing. The players cannot be a comlete team if they are always trying to learn a new system every season.I’ll always be a fan,but i will not support the organization if kiff leaves. They will no longer get my hard earned money.Raider Nation needs to let davis know this….

As a loyal Raider fan for more than 25 years. I beg you don’t fire Kiffin. STOP the insanity on this organization. I am tired of people telling me my team sucks. We need to go back to the glory days and I believe Kiffin is the right man. I was skeptical at the beginning when he was hired, but then I saw our players fighting hard and believing (in most if the games).
He just need some time and qualified personal to be the next John Madden.

I have been a Raider fan since ‘69 in grade school and I can tell you this I will no longer subject myself to the crap that Al Davis does! I have viewed this blog since its beginning and have never commented, only read and/or questioned things silently, but I invite all of the Raider Nation to protest purchasing merchandise or season tickets until “the old man” resigns himself and leaves the everyday operations to someone that has common sense and knows the NFL in the 21st century! Don’t get me wrong, I love the Raiders, but anyway you slice this is CRAZY! This sucks!

Boomer2U, I’m only five years behind you in fandom. I’m resigning from being a Raider fan for at least a year if Kiffin goes. Al’s behavior is juvenile. I thought he invited disagreement? It began with the benching of Marcus Allen, my favorite Raider, to the weekly deactivation of Steve Beurlein when he was our best qb to first Art Shell firing to Gruden to the utter stupidity of allowing Art Shell to hire Tom Walsh when Tom Walsh was the reason Art got fired the first time to Whitted starting over Porter and Curry to keeping 4 qbs on the roster to not allowing Kiffin to fire Ryan to this latest asinine stuff. And that’s not counting his screwing with LA and Oakland to his suing Tampa Bay for trademark infringement.
What an unhappy bastard!
This is as close as I’ve come to saying Al needs to go, but I’m gonna jump off the ledge. Al needs to go, or at the very least, step off and back.
Jesus Christ, what dysfunctional madness.

What is all this love for Kiffie. He only won 4-games. That doesn’t get him control of the franchise. Al may be senile, but he still knows more about football than some young whippersnapper.
Parcells won 2-Super Bowls and made it to a 3rd before he could shop for the groceries.
Kiffie is a punk.
January 27th, 2008 at 9:47 am
If us fans want to make a statement then let’s all join forces and quit buying their merchandise, and stop going to the games. It’s certainly what worked in Houston. What better way is there to get his attention? Pay a guy 60+ million (JR) to play and then fail to fill the stands, I think that speaks volumes. Then maybe the other 49 percent of the teams ownership have enough. They tried to get him out once they just need to try harder! Heck it might be what it takes to get the NFL finally involved. Baseball took similar steps with the Reds and suspended Marge Schott why can’t the NFL do the same? Goodell has proven he’s not afraid to make waves.
Raider faithful, but very tired of the antics!

It’s the same old story, another young inspired coach takes over the Raiders and Davis squashes him because the coach wants to make the team better. When will they wake up and realize they’ll never be a winner again until they get new blood into the organization. It was the same story with Gruden he makes them a winner shows a little spine to Davis and see ya. All he does is go to Tampa and kick the Raiders backside in the Super Bowl and the Raiders haven’t been the same since. You’d think at some point they’d get a clue! But no here we go again, let’s get some spineless washed up loser that’ll kiss Big Al’s butt and we’ll be 2-14 forever. Yes Lofton and Green would fit the requirements. Hey look at the positive we’ll get high draft choices for years that’ll do us no good. If you want to get rid of Kiffin then grow a sack and get somebody like Cowher and give him the reins.
January 27th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
It’s offical(they announced it anyway) Kiff WILL be back for the 08 season……..
January 28th, 2008 at 1:11 am
This makes me sick. I used to enjoy the “dysfunctional” Raiders stories….back in the days when we were winning and/or reloading. Al was always crazy…he just dropped the …”like a fox” part a few years ago. No WAY I’m buying season tickets…I might not even buy tix for games that are blacked out – I’ll just head to Reno, Vegas, or down south a bit to watch and enjoy the rest of my day doing something else after the Raiders lose instead of walking out of the HOT crammed with the rest of my bummed bretheren down the walkway to the BART for an hour ride…the guys on the team deserve a medal of honor for playing through this…this bs will ruin several promosing careers…there’s no reason to even start picking favorite players…they’re doomed. Maybe Al needs another first…first team to win the superbowl with a brand new coach. Oh wait, he fired that guy and he beat us in the superbowl a few years ago.
Al, you’ve been around too long to keep the grudge match going…you’ve acquired too many enemies, nemeses (sp?), and targets of anger. Just let Kiffin run this team like every team in the NFL allows their head coach…your genious as an owner can only be demonstrated by hiring the right guy for the job and letting him do his thing. If you can’t deal with not getting all the damn credit, than just coach the team your f’n self so it becomes readily apparent who to blame (here’s a hint, look in the mirror).
Don’t ruin your legacy with this powertrip.

January 28th, 2008 at 3:26 pm
There’s too many holes to plug on this sinkng pirate ship…this is reported on Yahoo sports;
Jan 28 Jason Jones, of the Sacramento Bee, reports Oakland Raiders players have begun calling managing general partner Al Davis to express their displeasure with head coach Lane Kiffin. Kiffin’s insistence on wanting to fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, defensive line coach Keith Millard, linebackers coach Don Martindale and defensive backs coach Darren Perry is considered a reason for the players’ displeasure.
January 31st, 2008 at 10:04 pm
I don’t know who your sources are but you obiviously have been misinformed.Neither Al Davis or Kifin were quoted to prove that any of theese stories are true.
In fact, ther is no merit in any of these alegations.
Kifin never said that he wanted to get rid of Ryan,
nor did Davis say that he wanted to get rid of Kifin.
Well, if you count the imaginery source, you do have some proof. The last one was funniest to me because it was Kiffin who interviewed Lofton first. This is tabloid media that underminds the credibillity of the
reporters and their sponsors.
