Darren McFadden Q&A

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at 4:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Darren McFadden’s conference call with local media:

Q: Were you pretty sure this would be the team for you?

McFadden: For me, I really didn’t know what to expect. I heard a lot of talk about New York, I heard a lot of talk about Oakland too. For me, I was sitting back and I was going to be happy with my name being called.

Q: Lane Kiffin said he called you this morning, what was that conversation like?

McFadden: It’s just a great feeling, he told me if I’m there at No. 4 pick, we was going to call my name. And right before he got off the phone he said he hoped to be talking to me again soon. It was something I was very proud of. I’m very happy, to be able to go to Oakland.

Q: What do you know about Lane Kiffin’s offense and how it might be a fit for you?

McFadden: I like the way he uses his running backs. When he was at USC he moved his running backs around a lot. I just love the way he does that, I feel it’s something I can bring to Oakland, being a versatile player, that I can move around and give them a different style.

Q: He’s compared you to Reggie Bush and that he can use you in similar ways. Is that what you see?

McFadden: I feel like he can use me some of the same ways they use Reggie Bush. Those are real good things and I’m very versatile.

Q: Your thoughts on coming to a place with a lot of running backs?

McFadden: Me, I want to come in and just learn the offense. I’m going to sit back and let those veterans teach me. And when the coaches call upon on me to go out there and play I’m going to go out there and give it my all.

Q: Surprised the Raiders drafted you because they had so many RBs?

McFadden: Yeah, it surprised me, but I feel like after talking with the coaching staff, that they were missing the big-play ability and that was something I could help with.

Q: What did you assure the Raiders that any off-the-field issues, character issues, were not going to be a problem?

McFadden: You know, they did a lot of research on me. They talked to everyone, and asked questions about the type of guy Darren McFadden is. And the people they talked to, evenyone than knows me, told them Darren McFadden’s a great guy. That off the field I made mistakes and it was nothing they had to be concerned with.

Q: Your thoughts on Raider nation, the Black Hole, the history of the organization, an important thing for you to carry on a tradition?

McFadden: It’s going to be very important for me to carry on a tradition. You never want to ruin a tradition, you always want to carry it on. I love the Raider Nation, they’re very passionate about the Raiders so I’m looking forward to getting out and playing for them.

Q: When you were reading pre-draft analysis that question your character, what are some things people weren’t saying that you think they should know?

McFadden: The things they don’t say about Darren McFadden is the things I’ve done around the community. I’ve been doing community events since I was in high school, going to help out, Special Olympics in high school, being able to do things like that. Then two Christmas breaks ago, we were on Christmas break, there was a plane crash at the airport in Arkansas and I went and visited the kids at the airport, I mean in the hospital. Those are a lot of things people don’t talk about.

Q: Looking forward to getting away from home, moving out here?

McFadden: I feel like it’s gonna be a good thing for me, being able to be away
from home. It’s something I’m looking very forward to.

Q: Given thought to playing with JaMarcus?

McFadden: I know it’s gonna be great to be in the huddle with him. I played against him a couple times in college. I’d much rather be on the same side of the ball he’s on.

Q: Are your blocking skills underrated?

McFadden: A lot of people don’t look at those things. Going through the draft, people competing so much, they overlook the good things that you do. And that’s something Coach Rathman pointed out that he really enjoyed, my passion for the game. And possibly he can take me to the next level. With him coaching me, he’ll be able to take me to the next level.”

Q: Anyone gonna move out here with you? How many infant car seats do you own?

McFadden: I’m planning on having my sister move out with me, where she can help me out around the house. Maybe make me feel at home while I’m away.

Q: You mean, like, do women’s work?

McFadden: (Laughs) She’s a great help around the house, you know? She’s always keeping me positive. So she can help out, watch over me a little bit for me, it’ll help me out in a lot of ways.

Q: How have the last 24 hours been for you?

McFadden: It’s been a whirlwind. You don’t know where you’re gonna go, sitting back and just waiting, and then you finally hear your name called. And when you finally get the phone call to where you’re gonna go, you be so happy.

Q: What was your favorite NFL team growing up?

McFadden: Growing up I was a Broncos fan because I liked watching Terrell Davis and John Elway play, Ed McCaffrey, Shannon Sharpe, I loved to watch those guys play.”

Q: You mention that to Al Davis?

McFadden: No, sir, not at all.

Q: Did you know before Goodell took the podium with Raiders’ pick?

McFadden: I had already known, because they had called me a couple minutes before. They gave my agent a call and gave me a call, so we already knew before they announced it.

Q: You concerned about fumbles?

McFadden: No, it’s not a concern at all, cause I talked to Coach Rathman. We both sat there and watched game film together on me. He was showing some of the things I was doing. He was telling one of the main things, I was not locking my elbow down. And that’s something that’s easily corrected, so it won’t be a problem with fumbling at all.

Q: How are your skills as a receiver.

McFadden: That shows my versatility. I have great hands coming out of the backfield. It’s something we didn’t do much in college at all. We never really threw to the running back the ball. It’s something that I feel very confident doing.

Q: Maybe they’ll let you throw it, too?

McFadden: Heh. I don’t know if they’ll want me to do that. But if they try to put in a play for me to throw it, I’d love to do it.”

Q: How do you compete about the comparisons to Reggie Bush?

McFadden: For them to compare me to Reggie Bush, I feel like he’s a very shifty guy. I like to get downhill and get running.

Q: How ready are you to step in right away? What do you need to work on?

McFadden: I feel like I’m a very skilled guy. You know, I feel like I’m ready to step in there. I’m not the type of guy that’s gonna be happy to be in the NFL, and when I get there I want to be doing great things, I don’t want to just be out there. I want to play great and make big plays.

then went our guy Lofton :/

  2. oliverthizz Says:

Lets just hope that Bush and McFadden will be used like Lendale White and Reggie Bush at SC. If that happens, we can really upset a lot of defenses. Im slowly starting to warm up to the pick, but I still need to see some D GET PICKED!

  3. La Milicia Negra Says:

    you said it!

  4. La Milicia Negra Says:

I like the new Draft Format

  5. Dakota Says:

“Anyone gonna move out here with you? How many infant car seats do you own?”

Lol, now that was a good question!

  6. oliverthizz Says:

Yeah, just would have liked to keep 3rd round on day one

MIA, Marley, Dakota, TT,BHP,Raider951, and others

Did the first round seem faster, or was it just as slow.

I thought this blog would have had more activity.

The division between DMAC and the bloggers wanting a DL was great read up to the draft.

I have a bad taste in ny mouth, I guess I’ll have to get over it soon.

I still don’t believe we have addressed our DT position, and believing we can get somone decent in the fourth round is a reach.

What is the percentage, of those type of players making a impact.

Thanks guysand to the winners of the DMAC sweepstakes and all the abuse you took, enjoy.

  9. La Milicia Negra Says:

maan if Denver picks up Trveor Laws we gonna meat 2 of 3 best DTs in the draft

  10. La Milicia Negra Says:

    RaiderDell…

yeah the new format is way faster, now each team has only 10 minutes. I like the pace now, before it was so boring

  11. Dakota Says:

Don’t worry Dell, we will grab Red Bryant or Frank Okam in round three…perfect DTs to play along side Kelly.

And the 1st round was waaaay faster this year…Roger knows what he is going…but I still wish round 3 was today.

  12. La Milicia Negra Says:

    2″#09 NOS, Tracy Porter, CB

  13. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Dakota…

bwahh bwwaaahh, but I want Trevor LAAAaaaaws!!

  14. Tommy Trojan Says:

solid draft by the bills so far

  15. La Milicia Negra Says:

excuse, but who would call their son Tracy?

    ….A boy named Sue…

  16. Oakglenn Says:

    Okam is no good.

  17. La Milicia Negra Says:

    TT…

In the next 3-4 years Browns, Bills and Texans will be top teams

  18. RaiderNation951 Says:

HE’S ALREADY TALKING IN THE 3RD PERSON!!!! Great, we got Chad Johnson anyway! LOL.

  19. DoeDoe Says:

    Jason Taylor deal close?
Talk of a Jason Taylor-to-the-Bucs deal is gaining strength, and we’re hearing a trade may already be agreed to.

As told to us, the deal would involve, at a minimum, the Bucs’ second-round pick, No. 52 overall, in exchange for the 33-year-old likely Hall-of-Famer.

The Bucs have continued to bemoan the lack of a consistent pass rush, and adding a player with 117 career sacks would certainly be a step in the right direction. But there are challenges involved in this potential deal, not the least of which is addressing Taylor’s contract. Taylor is scheduled to earn $17-million over the final two years of his contract.

It’s conceivable there will be an agreement in place before the trade to restructure the contract, but it’s too early to say.

  20. Dakota Says:

    LMN,

Have you not learned a thing my friend? Laws 6′ 304 lbs…too small to play NT…no help to us just like Ellis and Dorsey. Think NT. Think Red Bryant or Okam.

Laws will be a better pro than Kelly though, but Al made his bed and now we have to sleep in it.

  21. Tommy Trojan Says:

LMN, add us in there, but i agree with the texans and browns

  22. THETOWN Says:

    WAHOOO!!

  23. RaiderNation951 Says:

    brokeho’s going QB? hehehehe

  24. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Fåååårk Denver…

Eddie Royal was my top WR :/

  25. NorthPhillyRaider Says:

951, yea i was a little taking back by the 3rd person garbage. but he said some good things, i hate that he is a fan of the donkeys but at the same time i am kinda glad that he idolized a ZBS running back.

  26. La Milicia Negra Says:

    TT…

I do, I sure do, the O has no excuses now

  27. Ice Assassin Says:

Dakota we have a third round pick? Did we trade to get it? I thought our next pick was 4th round 5th pick.

  28. Tommy Trojan Says:

    royal was a hige reach

  29. RaiderNation951 Says:

Wow, Sammie Parker and Royal as new WR for the brokeho’s, we are going to have to field wee-man and miney-me to cover them just to give them a fair shot. Hall and Nambi are loving this!

  30. La Milicia Negra Says:

I might as well play some poker if I’m going to follow the rest of the draft online

  31. Dakota Says:

    Minny going to replace Jackson???

  32. Tommy Trojan Says:

look for brohm, henne, jackson, or sweed to MIN

  33. Tommy Trojan Says:

    MIN blew it

  34. Dakota Says:

Ice, no, I am just hoping we can jump back into the 3rd and grab Red.

  35. Tommy Trojan Says:

brohm or henne to CHI for sure

  36. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Dakota…

yeah but he hits harder than anybody else (re, Laws)

  37. RaiderNation951 Says:

Bears have a shot at a QB. Walter to daBears?

  38. Dakota Says:

    LMN,

Yes Laws is a stud…like I said, he will be better than Kelly.

  39. EJ Says:

We don’t have a third round pick

  40. Tommy Trojan Says:

i like t.johnson but this part of the draft is strong at QB and WR THEIR BIGGEST NEEDS!

  41. oliverthizz Says:

If Bears dont go QB…I dont even know. But come on, at what point do you upgrade? Brohm still there, Henne, Woodson. Any would be a huge upgrade.

  42. Oakglenn Says:

Royal?? That was a reach. They would’ve been better off with Desean.

  43. RaiderNation951 Says:

Jackson in Min is screwed. They don’t have a 3rd so no real WR help again this year. Looks like another big year for AP.

  44. La Milicia Negra Says:

    TT…

they should go for Henne then, I think he is better than Brohm, but I know i’m a minority =)

  45. Ice Assassin Says:

Dakota ok and I am happy for you with our pick of McFadden.

  46. Oakglenn Says:

They have to replace Tavaris. He sux

  47. RaiderNation951 Says:

Someone should call Oakland already. These qb’s are suspect at best. Walter is a top pac-10 qb.

  48. RaiderNation951 Says:

RB, what the hell was that?

  49. K-Rock Says:

    Bears suck

  50. oliverthizz Says:

OH MY GOD!! The Bears are retarded.

  51. Tommy Trojan Says:

WOW?!?!?!?!?!? i though they would take forte but over brohm!?!?!?!??!?! and right now?!?!?!??!?!?!?

  52. La Milicia Negra Says:

Then Vikings or Lions will take Henne or Brohm =)

  53. Oakglenn Says:

And the Bears DON”T take a QB????????????? What are they thinking????

  54. Dakota Says:

I wish Brohm was in the green room, lol. Watching Quinn squirm last year was good tv!

  55. Bob Marley Says:

We´re getting the Lions 45th pick..

  56. Ice Assassin Says:

Any body have any news on us trading for pick?

  57. RaiderNation951 Says:

next teams needing a qb are the lions and buc’s. The buc’s collect them so they should take on soon.

  58. Oakglenn Says:

All the teams in that NFC North Division have absolute crap for QB’s. Except one. Green Bay. And that team won the division practically every year. What a bunch of imbeciles.

  59. RaiderNation951 Says:

    for what bob?

  60. Bishop916 Says:

If we went with Dorsey, DMAC would have fallen to KC,… then all you armchair QB’s would be complaining for the next 5 years how lame we were passing on DMAC watching him gut us (Dorsey) for 200+ twice a season.

Run DMC was a great pick that will help the O get going in so many ways. Dorsey was a monster in college, but DMC got the best of him every time they met and I think that is what tipped the Raiders hat, IMHO.

  61. Bishop916 Says:

…You know how Al hates to give anything up to his division opponents….

  62. Oakglenn Says:

Millen is probably going to take a wide reciever.

  63. oliverthizz Says:

Theres no way KC woulda picked McFadden

  64. Tommy Trojan Says:

    charles to DET

  65. Bob Marley Says:

    nevermind

  66. TrueRaider Says:

I think Rhodes and Jordan are out and Bush won’t be happy to be the third back behind Fargas and DMAC, I odn’t think we are going to cut Fargas anyways I tell you what, if we want to win, we need to get OL who are mean and can Pass block not run block….

  67. oliverthizz Says:

    Haaaa, Lions will draft Manningham

  68. RaiderNation951 Says:

Dorsey wasn’t the DL that I really wanted. Ellis was. Either him or Rivers. But it doesnt matter. DMC is a Raider and as long as he stays out of trouble I’m glad to have him aboard. That doesn’t mean that I won’t bust on him and his baby momma drama. If he turns out like fumbles fargas in his first couple of years I’m going to be pissed!

  69. Tommy Trojan Says:

OK pick for DET but connor would have been better

  70. RaiderNation951 Says:

    Bungles will take a WR.

  71. La Milicia Negra Says:

    2″#14 DET, Jordan Dizon OLB

  72. Dakota Says:

    go lakers

  73. Tommy Trojan Says:

redskins could trade one of their 2nds for washington and stu together, they need a S, or at least options at the position to replace taylor, and they need a CB badly, it would be nice to get one of those picks

  74. jjvill Says:

I was not all for DMac before the draft and maybe passing up Dorsey will be a mistake. But when I heard Daren McFadden’s name called, my gut didn’t tell me it was a bad thing. Many NFL guys think this guy’s ceiling is sooo high. If they are right…options for the Raider O are endless.

The decisions are over…think of the possibilities if DMac delivers.

    One Nation Baby…

  75. RaiderNation951 Says:

Beagles could take a QB too.

  76. Bishop916 Says:

#63 – even the outside possibility is a sure thing to AD. Recent history has shown that he will do anything to prevent even the slightest notion of a chance that a div rival will get one up on him…

  77. R.A.W. Says:

we should get Trevor Laws DT and Dexter Jackson WR and if we are really lucky, then also desean jackson WR, no one seemed to have even looked at him so far.

  78. Alameda Insider Says:

Ok,..Iwill try and type….I am all messed up on Norcos and beer,…no vino today…DMAC is who I wanted for the last 2 months,..check the archives…for all you fans who are unhappy,..F-U,…I liked Dorsey too,…great player,..sad hes a Chief…but we now have an all world back…Im thrilled today,…I will pop another Norco and another beer…the Raiders today took a huge step towards greatness,…all the neg-heads can go to Hell.

  79. Tommy Trojan Says:

    triple double for kobe dakota

  80. FirstTimer Says:

Kansas City already got one over on us when they got Dorsey

  81. Tommy Trojan Says:

jackson and sweed still there WOW!

  82. oliverthizz Says:

    Lakers are cremating the Nuggets.

  83. oliverthizz Says:

    Odd pick by CIN

  84. Bishop916 Says:

Now we get to see DMC point at his name silver on black after another great play for the RRRRAAAAIII-DERRRRSS!

  85. Dakota Says:

I knew I should have stayed in Denver to watch the Lakers crush the Nuggs….DAAAAAMN.

  86. Tommy Trojan Says:

i got half a G on the sweep, so this is music

  87. oliverthizz Says:

    Eagles should WR here

  88. oliverthizz Says:

Looks like youll win that bet, Nuggets look like they give up half way through the 3rd of each game

  89. R.A.W. Says:

Jackson, Sweed, Mario, and Kelly are still there, and out of all people, the bengals didn’t choose any of them!!! Hopefully they all fall down to the 4th round, though i doubt that will happen

  90. La Milicia Negra Says:

    2″#15 CIN Jerome Simpson, WR

  91. Dakota Says:

Philly will pick DE and WR soon

  92. Andrews mom Says:

You are a sissy if you dont chew your norcos and chase them with red can coke.

  93. Tommy Trojan Says:

    connor to eagles

  94. Dakota Says:

    Nice…Laws is a stud.

  95. RaiderNation951 Says:

    bye bye laws

  96. Oakglenn Says:

Some of these mediocre teams make the most innane picks. I guess that’s why they continue to be mediocre. Dizon in the middle of the 2nd?? I really like Jordan but waaaay to high. The WR from Coastal Carolina???? Waaaay to high.

  97. R.A.W. Says:

DAMN IT!!!! THE EAGLES CHOOSE TREVOR LAWS!!!!!THE RAIDERS SHOULD HAVE GOT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  98. oliverthizz Says:

Why did they take Laws? They didnt need him.

  99. Tommy Trojan Says:

laws is now gne, sorry, lot of you wanted him, but with bunkley and patterson already does this mean patterson could be available? they’re al 3s

  100. RaiderNation951 Says:

we have got to get more picks!

  101. K-Rock Says:

    Bengals make a stupid pick

  102. Tommy Trojan Says:

davis to skins when they have cooley?

  103. K-Rock Says:

    What’s new? LOL

  104. oliverthizz Says:

Trojans all over the place. STILL the top football factory.

  105. K-Rock Says:

Limas Sweed would look good in Silver N Black

    Hope he keeps falling…

  106. midwest-Raider Says:

what do you guys think of Dan conner mlb

  107. RaiderNation951 Says:

FINALLY, Davis is off the board!

  108. Florida Pete Says:

    nothing special has happened yet…

it’s like we’re going “all in” will McFadden….

Dorsey made so much more sense…

but, hey.. if mcdaddy starts crossing the goal-line say 2 or 3 times a game…

    i’ll get over it…

  109. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

You gotta think if we make a move for Fabian its Low 2nd or tomorrow in the 3rd……

  110. J Russ/ DMac/MBush Says:

We need to trade in, there’s a ton of talent still available… I wish they were still doing 3 round today though. I don’t think we need a NT, I think Sands will rebound, if we draft defense right now it has to be LB or DE, but I’d prefer drafting a WR right now, Walker, Curry, Carter honestly isn’t that good.

  111. Tommy Trojan Says:

    best available OTs:

    Anthony Collins
    Jeremy Zuttah
    Oniel Cousins

  112. K-Rock Says:

    Jackson to Philly…

  113. La Milicia Negra Says:

Clemons and Laws, the future line of the eagles :/ Doh’

  114. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    TT,

Cooley is like a hybrid H-Back/TE…Davis did shock me there but he is a true big TE.

Wish List…..Dan Oconnor, Desean Jax, Limas Sweed, Qentin Groves….

  115. TrueRaider Says:

Man, you guts are full S…, a HB has 5 to 7 yrs of decent production, a DT has 12 to 14 yrs. Money is everything,we drafted Bush, paid for Fargas and we get DMAC now makes no sense economically. Our problem was stopping the Run, we had the worst run defense in league for the past 2 yrs. Sand was bust and Kelly could get to the Quarterback but can’t stop the run. Dis wat Dorsey gives us a guy who can stop the run dat we need… I don’t understand how some of you are happy when you saw da Giants win a championship with Jacobs and Bradshaw????? We didn’t need another RB we need a run stopper. PERIOD

  116. RaiderNation951 Says:

    there goes sweed too…………….

  117. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

Shite there goest Desean Jackson to Philly!

  118. K-Rock Says:

    McFadden better be special!

If not, the organization owes the fans a BIG apology for putting this much pressure on a D-line light on talent.

  119. Oakglenn Says:

You look at the guys who know how to build teams. Andy Reid is one of them, and he ALWAYS spends high pix on Dlinemen.

  120. raiders2 Says:

    I want Limas Sweed.

  121. La Milicia Negra Says:

man eagles have had a good draft so far, plus the offseason

  122. Dakota Says:

Would NE at the end of the second make a deal to get Fabian???

  123. TrueRaider Says:

Man, you guts are full S…, a HB has 5 to 7 yrs of decent production, a DT has 12 to 14 yrs. Money is everything,we drafted Bush, paid for Fargas and we get DMAC now makes no sense economically. We didn’t need another RB we need a run stopper. PERIOD

  124. Ice Assassin Says:

what do you guys think of Dan Conner as Ilb out of Penn State?

  125. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

True Raider…Didnt you hear Lane Kiffen??

We paid big bucks to Kelly at 3-Technique and moving dorsey to nose was not prudent.

Give Kelly (healthy) Sands (over deaths in family) and rotating Gerard Warren should be a big upgrade over last year plus Gibril in the box dont hurt either ;-)

We might scratch that…we Have something special in the backfield…our backfield didnt scare ANYONE! Bush is unknown plus he will be used with Dmac.

  126. Bob Marley Says:

115…read what Kiffin had to say and send him and e-mail or something.

  127. WTF Says:

    Bring on September

  128. K-Rock Says:

F’N McFadden better get 2,000 yards this season or he will be a bust IMO.

Too many good, stable, D-lineman were passed up for this guy.

If he turns out like Bush in NO, I will be pissed.

Biggest highlight for Bush was him getting F’N plowed by Philly and crawling around with his D*ck in his watch-pocket.

  129. Dakota Says:

TrueRaider, we read your BS the first time, no need to post it again.

  130. ohioraider Says:

kiffin said they might trade up if theres a guys there they really want….how about if sweed or kelly , quentin groves or dan connor keep falling

  131. RaiderNation951 Says:

NE is a good possibility to take either Fab’s or Stan. They could use a CB. Both of them are better then what is left or what they currently have. Its just a matter of getting them to pull the trigger.

  132. Thec Says:

Biggest highlight for Bush was him getting F’N plowed by Philly and crawling around with his D*ck in his watch-pocket.

I am a USC fan, and i like reggie bush but that quote is some funny SH!t. ROFLOL

  133. raiders2 Says:

Going to the 2 back systems now running backs will last longer, people are learning that 300+ carry seasons aren’t good for rb’s, it won’t happen with DMAC. I bet Sands will have a big year at NT too.

  134. Pirate Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh Says:

pathetic to see such unprofessional questions. Hope these weren’t Jerry’s

Q: Anyone gonna move out here with you? How many infant car seats do you own?

McFadden: I’m planning on having my sister move out with me, where she can help me out around the house. Maybe make me feel at home while I’m away.

Q: You mean, like, do women’s work?

  135. Tommy Trojan Says:

    GREAT pick for skins

  136. RaiderNation951 Says:

shit, there goes kelly too. Sweed is still there right?

  137. TrueRaider Says:

M.I.A. ok fine, but do you see our OL protecting our QB? don’t you guys think we need a LT and C, I remember the game against Detroit and Grove was getting hammered by Shaun Rogers and now the Pigs got big Rob, what you guys think?

  138. Dakota Says:

I agree Pirate…thise questions were uncalled for…but kinda funny.

  139. K-Rock Says:

    Kelly gone.

Raiders will end up with Manningham. With his weed smokin and a 6 on his Wonderlic test.
    :(

  140. raiders2 Says:

I bet Sweed won’t outlast Pittsburgh.

  141. Thec Says:

    F manningham, 3rd grader iq

  142. Tommy Trojan Says:

k-Rock expect 2,000yds, but probably 1300-1400 rushing and 500-800 recieving

  143. ohioraider Says:

TT what happened to your top 10 players and limas sweed…lol its pick 52 and hes still there

  144. Dakota Says:

TrueRaider? WTF? We signed Harris (LT) and Wade (C). Have you been in a coma the last two months?

  145. RaiderNation951 Says:

Not sure there will be a WR worth trading up to get. If the top 5 are all gone keep fab, stan and stu until the preseason and then look for a trade partner.

  146. Thec Says:

K-Rock, Post 128 thats funny S#!t cant stop laughing

  147. ohioraider Says:

harris sucks though he cant pass block at all

  148. Tommy Trojan Says:

thomas, kelly, davis, kooley, moss, portis; does campbell have some weapons or what?

  149. K-Rock Says:

    TT….

We haven’t had a WR get 800 yards. Now we are gonna have a HB get that many?

  150. Dakota Says:

We will trade up for Red Bryant or a LB…not a WR. We have Curry, Carter, JLH and Walker at WR.

  151. ohioraider Says:

i bet sweed goes to the bucs here…they need a reciever

  152. RaiderNation951 Says:

even with a 6 on the lick, you can use him for a fade or post.

  153. Tommy Trojan Says:

let’s hope we can get him, he’s still top 10 on my board, he’s the best WR prospect in the draft this year

  154. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    No! Groves Gone!

  155. Thec Says:

Buc close to closing deal with jason taylor. Glad he did not go to the dischargers.

  156. Tommy Trojan Says:

    good pick for jaguars

  157. K-Rock Says:

“Knock his Dck in his watch-pocket!!”- My HS Coach

  158. RaiderNation951 Says:

JLH isn’t a WR. That was obvious last year. huge disapointment. Mike Williams had more catches, but the were all called back because gallery couldn’t keep from getting caught holding.

DAMN IT! There goes groves too! I hate JVille.

  159. moss hater #1 Says:

omg you guys who keep whinin bout the dmac pic are f’n irritatin. if u dnt like it that much n are so intrigued wit d lineman y dnt u jus jump ship and root 4 the chiefs and dorsey or esle shut the fk up bcus hes our pic except it. sheeesh.)>:

  160. ohioraider Says:

those WRs have 9 major surgeries, dan connor would be worth trading up

  161. La Milicia Negra Says:

sweed is too insecure with the ball

  162. Tommy Trojan Says:

pit or ten will take sweed, but both could also use CBs

  163. R.A.W. Says:

I bet sweed will go to either pittsburg or the titans.

  164. RaiderNation951 Says:

Big ben will get his WR.

  165. raiders2 Says:

Dakota-Curry, Carter, JLH, and Walker is a pretty weak recieving corps, it could use a Limas Sweed.

  166. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    Now Now Dakota…easy on TrueRaider

WTF True Raider have you been in a comma Harris (LT) and Wade (C) !!

    LOL…just playin…I TRUST IN CABLE…PERIOD.

Thats my case and Im sticking to it.

  167. Dakota Says:

    951,

JLH is a WR. WRs take time to develop, don’t give up on him yet…the Raiders certainly have not.

  168. ohioraider Says:

i dont like the mcfadden pick but hopefully it works out, its good his sisters coming if might keep him out of jail. you just gotta wonder what we are gonna do with 5 decent running backs on our roster

  169. La Milicia Negra Says:

I guess Jax has their pass-rushers now =)

  170. R.A.W. Says:

man, this is one insane second round, these teams did some horrible scouting and value here

  171. RaiderNation951 Says:

Ten has to be going crazy. They never would have believed that a top WR would fall in their laps this far down in the 2nd.

  172. ohioraider Says:

    there goes sweed

  173. Tommy Trojan Says:

    there goes sweed

  174. Dakota Says:

Brohm or Henne pick coming up?? Baltimore???

  175. Pirate Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh Says:

so I wonder if Jerry’s blog will become the hate McFadden blog. He thought he was so smart saying over and over that we’d take Gholston, so certain we wouldn’t take McFadden when it was so blatantly obvious that we would. I’m sure he’s bitter about it all and will make it his mission to trash McFadden for the next five years. I fear it will grow tiring and be the death of this blog, at least for me.

At least there’s Jason Jones’ blog. He seems to have a much better understanding and insights on the Raiders. While Jerry was insisting we were going to pick Gholston, Jason Jones said:

    * The latest I’ve heard: Darren McFadden is (or should be) the pick for the Raiders.

    * As I stated yesterday, my talks with folks lead me to believe McFadden will be the pick.

  176. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

Dont give up on JLH yet fellas…after all he wasnt given the opporunities with the Tim Dwight signing..even admitted by Lane that that was foolish.

He has football speed not track speed. Now he has Lofton..mulligan on year one if you ask me.

  177. ohioraider Says:

its sad to say but the chiefs have probably had one of the better drafts of the day

  178. K-Rock Says:

    Sweed to Steelers. :(

  179. La Milicia Negra Says:

Lima sweed is what Pittsburgh lost in Plaxico

  180. RaiderNation951 Says:

tired of fast guys with no hands or route running ability. you would have thought the james jett / willy gault drama would have fixed that……huhhhhh, now sweed is gone and all hope of a good WR making it to Oaktown……damn.

  181. Tommy Trojan Says:

dakota, they aready took flacco #18

  182. ohioraider Says:

manninghams still there are supposedly he had a good visit with the raiders

  183. Thec Says:

j-mac should have put the c-pipe down with his talk about us taking th ghost.

  184. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    Two comments from Q & A I didnt like:

One: DMAC loved the Broncos growing up (grrrrr)

Two: He needs his sister to keep him in check..I hope its just family comfort and not necessary supervision.

I really hope we keep an eye on him because his talent is undeniable. Excited about Cable and Rathman working with him to even further increase his potential.

  185. Dakota Says:

    TT,

    lol….doh! I am a dumbazz.

Guy’s I just dn’t believe we will trade Fabian, I could be wrng but cover guy’s are very hard to find. And we have 4 good ones, why give one away let someone come and get him and you know what I mean.
    ———

quoting this for truth. unfortunate only about 1% of the people can see this.

  187. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    What about LBs TT?

  188. RaiderNation951 Says:

Dakota, they already got a qb. Higgins has “potential” but there is only so much you can coach out of someone. There is a reason they got Dwight, Carter, Williams. He just isnt that good. I would love to eat crow on this comment. please JLH, prove me wrong……until then, GET BETTER!

  189. Thec Says:

This blog is way more interesting than watching the draft. we have zero picks right now. Hey are they only doing 2 rounds today?

  190. TrueRaider Says:

Dakota no I wan’t, I know about those moves it is just that Wade and Harris aren’t that special players you would depend on them to protect Jamarcus. Harris was considered a bust and Wade is a backup now in his career not a solid center like Faine who we should have went for. I mean Harris always played RT and now he is our starting LT??? Comeon guys this should be a big concern

  191. Tommy Trojan Says:

lots of good DL about to hit the fan

  192. Tommy Trojan Says:

yeah, just the 1st and 2nd today

  193. R.A.W. Says:

Mario Manningham (or however you spell his name) is still out there, think we should get him?

  194. RaiderNation951 Says:

WOW they left the WR on the board…….Vince Young must be going CRAZY!

  195. Tommy Trojan Says:

there’s some great LB options in the 4th and 6th, we can wit for that; and there are some good OTs still

  196. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    TrueRaider….Trust in Cable…Trust me on this ;-)

  197. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

    R.A.W.

He is on our Radar possibly in the 4th and wouldnt be surprised if he fell that far…he has been rumored to drop to the second day.

  198. Bob Marley Says:

Bernard Berrian is a comparable player to JLH, former 3rd rounders, supposedly skilled in the return game and known for their speed, I think Berrian caught 28 passes during his first 2 seasons before he started to break out.

  199. Dakota Says:

TrueRaider…trust in Tom Cable. Our o-line was much better last year, and we have replaced our two biggest concerns, Simms and Groves…so things will probably get better. Another year in the system for Gallery, Cooper and Green/McQuistan, so they should be much better too. Relax.

  200. Thec Says:

I am glad the discghargers dont have a lot of picks. hope we rack up 500 yards on the ground against them. j williams knees are shot.

I think our staff has a pretty good idea about the guys they brought in. I feel comfortable knowing we made some moves before the draft.

  201. ohioraider Says:

OT,s especially LT’s are very hard to get in later rounds becuase if they were good enough of play LT they would be picked in the first two rounds. we need to make a move for DAN CONNOR if hes still there soon

  202. TrueRaider Says:

M.I.A hope you r right, I believe 9-7 is not far away if our defense is solid and our OL line gives time to Jamarcus

  203. K-Rock Says:

Face it guys. The starters for the Raiders are on the squad already.

No one picked from here out will make much of impact, except maybe on special teams.

  204. RaiderNation951 Says:

We have a shot with GB getting ready to pick to ship out a player they need. CB or QB. SS isn’t that big of need so Stu is safe.

  205. ohioraider Says:

we replaced our concerns with even bigger oline concerns, does that make sense

  206. Thec Says:

JLH better FV@king man up this year. He looked a dear in head lights. Panicsonic. He need to manthe F@Ck up.

  207. Tommy Trojan Says:

k-rock, we’ll add a rotational pass rusher, competition at NT, competition at slot, competition at OLB, and competition at LT, and probably end up with at least one, maybe two, starters

  208. K-Rock Says:

Here’s to McFadden being the next Emmitt Smith!

Just hope he isn’t the next Akili Smith.

  209. R.A.W. Says:

M.I.A. , If Mario is in the second day, should we get him? cuz i really like Dexter Jackson, then we do have to address our linemen for both sides of the field. I’m getting worried bout the chiefs dorsey and albert. their good players in a bad team.

  210. Tommy Trojan Says:

    8 more picks today

  211. oliverthizz Says:

Damn, Herm Edwards doesnt even know the names of the players they picked.

  212. Dakota Says:

Roger…bring back the 3rd round in day one!

  213. Thec Says:

Look the sky is not falling. We have replaced the old system of doing things last year. We replaced the regime of futility last year.

We have a complete new line of coaches that have a better understanding of how football is played in the new millinium. Relax have a cream soda the coaches know WTF they are doing.

  214. RaiderNation951 Says:

I hope cable can work his magic on C and LT so JR doesn’t get killed this year. When he landed on his head last year I thought he broke his neck! No more of that sheet!

  215. oliverthizz Says:

Agreed, 3rd rd should be day 1

  216. Tommy Trojan Says:

forget smith, expect OJ……….without the murder………hopefully………..or at least not until after his career……….

  217. Tommy Trojan Says:

    STEAL for GB!

  218. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

Mario is someone we will probably nab in round 4 without having to trade up IMO.

I think if we trade up at this point it should be Dan Connor

  219. oliverthizz Says:

Looks like Packers are trying to give Favre a hint that they dont want him back.

  220. La Milicia Negra Says:

    RAW…

  221. Tommy Trojan Says:

  222. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

The Best QB on my board was just chosen…Brohm is the real deal.

  223. TrueRaider Says:

who is the best LB remaining, I think we should try get a solid fast LB who can complement Morrison and Howard. What you guys think? Tom is a big day in our success

  224. Thec Says:

TT —-> you compare dmac to OJ?

  225. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

Parcells loves Henne…its a High Possiblity.

  226. RaiderNation951 Says:

    Sheet, we still have Walter.

  227. Dakota Says:

Wow…now STFU Farve and go ride your 4-wheeler around your 400 acres and quit showing your mug on tv.

Farve, most overrated QB in NFL history.

  228. RaiderNation951 Says:

    Come on bill, call al

  229. La Milicia Negra Says:

Woaw If Miami picks Henne the QB knows his LT, thats for sure =)

  230. Rick The Hunter Says:

The way these wide recievers have sliding, it wont surprise me if Early Doucet slides to us in the 4th. I just love how these experts mock drafts were completely wrong. Every year so-called 1st rounders fall to the 3rd, 4th rnd and then some no-name we’ve never heard of ends up being a 1st round pick. Looks like a QB contraversy just started in Greenbay, they just took Brian Brohm.

  231. R.A.W. Says:

    LMN

Yea, i was hoping dorsey gets injured the first day of their mini camp and that albert pulls a brandon marshall, only this time it should be his head not his arm =)

  232. Thec Says:

Yeah mel kiper thinkshe is the all seing eye. cant stand that F@Ck.

  233. Tommy Trojan Says:

thec, he’s a more powerful marshall faulk, so i think OJ is a better comparison than smith, smith was a good RB who was a product of arguably the best OL in NFL history, although you could also argue that distinction for 76′, but the game advances over time, and the older teams fall behind

Harris was considered a bust and Wade is a backup now in his career not a solid center like Faine who we should have went for. I mean Harris always played RT and now he is our starting LT??? Comeon guys this should be a big concern
    ————-

what can you say about this?

    1. Harris was considered talented enough to be a 1st round pick. Read the interview with him and Cable’s comments about how he was out of position at RT, how SF used him wrong, and Cable is confident he’ll be good at LT. I trust Cable’s opinion MUCH more than anonymous people commenting on a blog.

    2. Wade is a backup? He started 16 of 16 games in five of the last six years. same age and much more durable than Newberry.

    3. Should have signed Faine? a 6-year $37 million contract with $15 mil guraunteed for a center is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

  235. La Milicia Negra Says:

I think you guys are some seconds ahead of me, has Miami picked Henne?

  236. Oakglenn Says:

Dan Conner is an absolutely excellent Inside LB, Probably not as good as either Mayo or Lofton, even tho he was rated by some higher, but a very good player.

You guys I was the first one to say I wanted Dlinemen early and often. The problem was as soon as Chris Long went off the board, Dmac was our only choice. By adding Dmac we instantneously have the best rushing attack in the entire AFC West division, a division known for it’s top rushers. We just made our QB better and we just made our coach better.

  237. Tommy Trojan Says:

no dakota, elway was the most overrated of all time

  238. R.A.W. Says:

    Rick the Hunter

Wow, thanks, i forgot all about Early Doucet!!!! though i doubt he will be available in the fourth round, maybe if we trade fabe or rout for a third…..

  239. Oakglenn Says:

Tommy, no offense but saying Elway is overrated is absolutely insane.

  240. La Milicia Negra Says:

    yeah muahahahaah LOL

Dolphins is on the rise too, both bills and dolphins will be able to kick Patsy ass in a few years time =)

  241. Tommy Trojan Says:

he is the MOST OVERRATED OF ALL TIME

  242. RaiderNation951 Says:

Now, I know Walter is better the Booty’s sorry azz. Mr. my finger hurts I don’t want to play. Let my team suck with the back up………sorry beezterd. Keep Walter, make SD take Booty to back up rivers so we can crush bothof them this year!

  243. La Milicia Negra Says:

what a steal! to keep Left Tackle and QB together

  244. Thec Says:

TT, you still remember that 76 83 discussion.

OJ ran for 2,003 yards in 14 games so until someone runs for 2,290 in a single season OJ will be the S#!t.

But all that being said DMAC is the one. I hopethey let him take some direct snaps.

  245. La Milicia Negra Says:

Marino is the most overrated of all time!

  246. Dakota Says:

    TT,

You would draft Farve over Elway???

  247. Dakota Says:

    Will TB take Dan Conner?

  248. RaiderNation951 Says:

Lakers 102-84 over butnuggets. Lead series 3-0. MVP MVP MVP

  249. Thec Says:

farve most overated, the media treats this dude like the pope. Why do we need to see anything about farve on draft day. Elway won 2 farve 1 that should be the stick not 5000000 million yards.

  250. Blackholepriest Says:

We will get a player in the 4th no need to panic and if we can steal a player, then you make a move but don’t give away talented pros for a maybe. None of those WR’s excite me. and almost all the LBers are falling. Manningham in the 4th or Lavell Hawkins in the 5th. There’s a LBer from USC Thomas Williams who’s a player that will be there in the 5th or later just be patient no need to panic. Larry Grant from Ohio St. very good SLB.

    You’ll be surprised.

  251. frozen Says:

McCown will beat out John Beck AND Chad Henne!

  252. oliverthizz Says:

  260. R.A.W. Says:

    2. Aikman
    3. Brady

Exactly Pirate…Doug Gabriel is better than most of these guys, lol.

  272. RaiderNation951 Says:

Thec, troy was a product of the system, not a great qb. Without emmit and that OL, he was toast. Plus he can’t even spell his own name anymore because of all the concussions.

  273. Thec Says:

LMN, Its all about system. What USC means to college football thats what we will mean to the NFL.

in the 2000’s USC hands down is the most dominate football team in college football PERIOD.

Thats what the Raiders will look like a domintate team in the NFL.

  274. Dakota Says:

can al davis convince JJ to take Stu and our 4th for this pick lol?

  275. BART Bridge Balla Says:

yikes Jerome Simpson and Jason Jones gone already. Man I was hoping both of them would be around in the 4th. I been hyping Jerome since the senior bowl, he is gonna be a good player in this league.

  276. RaiderNation951 Says:

two left……..we have until tomorrow to pull a trade.

  277. Kush Says:

You can quote me, and if I’m wrong I’ll admit it like a man…but when it’s all said and done, I strongly believe Chad Johnson will end up in Silver and Black. The Raiders Return to Greatness is Inevitable.

  278. Dakota Says:

Why not just keep Fasano??? Fasano must have asked out of Dallas.

  279. Thec Says:

951 agreed but he got it done. Thats all that matters is getting it done. Rings not things.

  280. Tommy Trojan Says:

well, we all expected a 3rd for washington

  281. Oakglenn Says:

You’re comparing QB’s from different eras. Remember, defensive back rules have GREATLY CHANGED, OVER the last 5-10 years. The game has been changed to make it easier for QB’s. You can’t hit them, you can’t check the receivers. It’s a totally different game than even 10 years ago. That’s a major reason guys like Manning and Brady look better than they actually are. But the point about Elway is, when he brought his team to the Super Bowl 3 times his first 7 years in the league, since he was apparently not very good, who was good on those teams??????

  282. Dakota Says:

This has to be where Dan Connor goes…NYG.

  283. RaiderNation951 Says:

pats need cb’s, could this be the spot? who is left at OLB, DT, DE that would be worth trading back into the draft for?

  284. Thec Says:

  285. La Milicia Negra Says:

    These QB’s cover the 70’s 80’s 90’s 2000’s

  290. Tommy Trojan Says:

the OL and D were great on those teams, the game as a whole is so much more advanced today and so much more complicated, QBs must be much more cerebral and much more accurate today to survive in the league, elway was a terrible decision maker, he was clutch, that is all he can claim, no QB in NFL history is as technically sound and accurate as brady and manning

  291. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Dakota..

sorry, My bad, GB took him

  292. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

Well Fellas…Lets Hope for a 3rd Rounder Tomorrow.

We Most Definitely Deserved an A+ for Our Picks in the First Two Rounds !

Round One: Darren McFadden (our offense will be feared)

Round Two: DeAngelo Hall (our secondary will be feared)

See you all Tomorrow Nation…I’m Celebrating.

  293. BART Bridge Balla Says:

    yeah, Jordy is already taken.
I hope the Raiders can land Early Doucet in the 3rd, that would be sweet

  294. RaiderNation951 Says:

Thec, I hope your right, but the pickups better play up to their ability that cable and Kiff saw in them, otherwise, we will have a top 10 pick again next year, and a new coaching staff coming in to make the picks. Either JL or D Green……….either would be a huge step backwards.

  295. Oakglenn Says:

How’s about Kirk Barton the LT from yep, you guessed it, Ohio State in the 4th???

  296. Tommy Trojan Says:

we should get a 3rd tomorrow

  297. Eleven Angry Men Says:

La milicia negra, jordy nelson already taken.

  298. La Milicia Negra Says:

Adrian Arrington, in the late rounds

  299. Tom Says:

What do you guys think about
Darrell Robertson has a defensive end
who excels at rushing defense with
our first second day pick and what
about Edward Williams as a wide
receiver who could excel as a later
round pick. Check these two guys
out I think they can help.

  300. Tommy Trojan Says:

thomas will be a huge steal for the giants

  301. RaiderNation951 Says:

7 USC guys in the first 2 rounds……DOMINANCE. Pete Carrol has to be proud of his guys not to mention getting calls from kids who want to come to SoCal to play for him.

  302. Tommy Trojan Says:

Now to assess what’s available tomorrow……..

  303. Dakota Says:

7 USC Flops selected today…there will be a lot of disappointed GMs again next year.

  304. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Eleven angry men….

    #291

  305. Eleven Angry Men Says:

sry everyone already told u that.

  306. oliverthizz Says:

Thomas is a future star, sleeper. SC has RULED the first 2 rounds

  307. Pirate Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh Says:

reading around he net, people pan the McFadden pick because we just gave Fargas a “big” contract.

Fargas basically has a 1 year contract. It has 6 mil in guarantees, all in the first year. Plus another possible 2 mil in incentives (he’ll never see those with McFadden around).

The next two years are non-guarnteed and they can cut him and owe nothing or force him to restructure to minsals:

    2009: $2.5 million
    2010: $1.5 million

so basically a 1 year deal with options to keep him around cheaply for the next couple of years or get rid of him.

Fargas’ contract is 1 year, the rest is smoke and mirror.

  308. oliverthizz Says:

Thomas has all the same qualities as Nnamdi.

  309. M.I.A. Raiders Says:

DeAngelo Hall was the BEST player picked up in Round Two…When can you pick up a pro bowl CB to man up with another pro bowl CB in round 2 ???

I’m Out Nation – Cross your fingers for a 3rd Rounder Tomorrow!

  310. Tommy Trojan Says:

dakota, what is your college team again?

  311. Blackholepriest Says:

This kid was IMO the most underrated cornerI could think of, but I”m not sure I would’ve picked him there. He can play tho, good move NYG

  312. La Milicia Negra Says:

    The WR’s left that I like…

    Early Deucet
    Marcus Smith
    Adrian Arrington

  313. Thec Says:

USC the greatest college football team EVER

  314. Dakota Says:

Lol…ND. THAT WAS A PUSH IN THE BACK!

    Yes I am bitter!

  315. RaiderNation951 Says:

Well, hoped to see the Raiders land at least one of the top OLB’s or DE’s but we have DMC to try to carry the game on his chicken legs. Welcome to the Nation Darren, welcome to the Nation.

  316. oliverthizz Says:

Yeah Thomas is real ggod, just got overshadowed by all of the other stars on the D

SC is the Jr. Raiders, or maybe its the other way around

  319. Thec Says:

USC is the Raiders farm system no doubt

  320. oliverthizz Says:

Adibi and Highsmith are still there at LB. Okam, Bryant, and Moore there at DL. Still a lot of talent out there.

  321. La Milicia Negra Says:

Im still bitter over Laws =)

  322. Blackholepriest Says:

USC more picks in the first two rounds than the entire SEC, Hahaha. can you say overrated.

  323. Thec Says:

I like Ali highsmith, he should have ben off the board a while ago.

  324. Tom Says:

Barton seems to be too injury prone
as an offensive tackle. He gave
up only one sack last year, but
    he has foot problems.

  325. RaiderNation951 Says:

USC was not feared for their Pass D. Kind of suprised to see a USC CB taken that high. Good for him, ify for the Gmen.

  326. Thec Says:

None of those SEC teams could of beat USC last year. But as a whole the SEC is supposedly the best conference.

  327. BART Bridge Balla Says:

All right this is a repost but, barring a trade here is my prediction for tomorrow:
    4th. Mario Manningham WR
    6th. Thaddeus Coleman OT
    7th. Brian Johnston DE
    7th. Eric Foster DE/DT

This will probably change by tomorrow morning though

  328. Blackholepriest Says:

If somne drops late in the 3rd that can play give ‘em Stu and a 4th next year. As much as I don’t like Stu he is better than any safety left.

  329. oliverthizz Says:

Still a lot of draft to go. Even though I would have loved to see Lawrence Jackson, theres really not too much that we missed out on that we cant get on day 2. Lotta moves to be made still and the guys on our draft board are probably still there.

  330. midwest-Raider Says:

if we could just get Conner, bryant, and sims on D and maybe add a o-line as well

  331. Thec Says:

Stu should be move o the practice squad

  332. Tom Says:

    Thats how I am looking
    at our second round.
We picked up a 25 year
    old player this season
    that has already been
    to two Pro Bowls. Of
    course the talking heads
    will say the Raiders had
    a lousy draft because we
    only picked up one player.

  333. Dan Says:

So, what do we do with Washington, Jordan and Rhodes? I guess Routt stays as nickel. Bush, scrub duty if someone gets hurt (we’ll never see what he could have been), and Fargas splits time with DMc? How many of those guys can we expect to play special teams? Bummer we have so much dead money on all those cats.

  334. Dakota Says:

I hope we lock McFadden up prior to camp. Learn your lesson Al. We cannot afford to mess with the beginning of next season by having McFadden unsigned through TC and preseason. Pay the man and STFU. If you can give money to Kelly, you should be able to sign McFadden next week.

Don’t fk this up again Al. If we get off to a bad start this year we will not recover.

Sign McFadden prior to camp, draft Red Bryant tomorrow, sign Grady Jackson and Spikes, cut Jordan and Stu and we will be 10-6 and in the playoffs if Russell is 75% the QB we want him to be.

  335. RaiderNation951 Says:

Ryan looks like Ryan Leaf…….maybe he will implode the same way…..that would be awesome. First vick’s sorry azz, then a qb that cant take questions from the media……clasic.

  336. Thec Says:

J?ackson not going day 1 is a shock.

  337. Blackholepriest Says:

Now you’re talking my language. Eric Foster is a player to be sure I would love that kid but I would be shocked if he last until the 7th no way. he’ll go in the 5th at the latest.

  338. Thec Says:

rivers is ryan leaf he is a game away from a major explosing, or nervous breakdown.

  339. ohioraider Says:

someone said barton was a LT at OSU…he is exclusively a RT

  340. RaiderNation951 Says:

stu can’t play on the pratice squad. only up to 2 years after college is as long as you can be on the “squad”. He has been in the league that long.

  341. Thec Says:

lots of Rb’s on the board. Thesould have done the first 3 rounds.

  342. RaiderNation951 Says:

    Thec, which Jackson?

  343. Blackholepriest Says:

Dakota, L Jordan aint going anywhere until after 6/1
    he cost too much money.

Good draft anyway. tomorrow should yield a decent crop.

    Adios.

  344. Dakota Says:

    Dan,

Jordan will be cut, Rhodes will be kept through camp and preseason as insurance against Bush, if Bush is okay, then we cut or trade Rhodes, if Bush is not okay, we cut Bush.

If Bush is 100%, Fargas loses his job and becomes the backup to McFadden and Bush. Joe will be the insurance against injury.

  345. BART Bridge Balla Says:

yeah, I am being very optimistic, especially with the premium on DE’s in this draft. If Eric Foster isn’t there I like the idea of Kiffin getting the Big D-tackle from his alma mater Jason Shirley.

  346. Dakota Says:

Isn’t there some new rule that you can cut guys prior to June 1, and they are still considered June 1 cuts??? Help me out TT.

  347. ohioraider Says:

  349. RaiderNation951 Says:

Cry me a Rivers, LT’s knee, and Gates big toe will all cause problems for the chokers this season. Without Turner to back up LT, when he knocks Rivers out and gets suspended, they won’t have a running game. Rivers sucks so he won’t be able to get Gates the ball. gates will stub his toe on rivers helmet after a game while he is kicking him for leading him while going over the middle one time too many. Norv will be curled up in a ball sucking his thumb while AJ Smith is pulling his hear out for letting Marty go.

  350. RaiderNation951 Says:

Yes, you designate them 6/1 casualties and they are on the roster until then but they can shop themselves to other teams.

    —————–

let me ask you this: how many CBs does a pro football team need?

  354. BART Bridge Balla Says:

if we can get a 3rd rounder tomorrow:
    Pat Sims
    Red Bryant
    Early Doucet
    Dre Moore
    Mario Manningham
    Anthony Collins
    Frank Okam
    Carl Nicks

  355. Oakglenn Says:

Tommy that;s not quite right. Those first Elway Bronco Super Bowl teams had a solid defense and a decent offensive line, but certainly not GREAT defense or great offensive lines. Dan Reeves always felt he could pull offensive linemen in the last 10 rounds, unlike today. The game is certainly more advanced today but not infinitely more so than say 15 years ago. And arguably, QB’s DON’T have to be as accurate because of the liberalized passing rules that very much limit what DB’s and Defensive linemen can do.

Bottom line how many Hall of Famers did Montana Play with?? Rice, Lott, Dean, Walsh, Young. How many did Aikman play with? Emmitt, Irvin, along with Aikman and Tex Shramm who built those teams.
Manning?? At least harrison and Glenn are going in with him. Brady??? numerous. Elway??? No one. When Gary Zimmerman was on that team, he won the Super Bowl. If he had as decent a support cast as these other players, he would have won sooo many Super Bowls it wouldn’t even be remotely close. As it was he played in five. That’s a lot.

  356. CJ Legend #34 Says:

Jerry Ronald McDonald those were sme very “classless” questions to ask and I think McFadden had allot of class in his response. If it was not for players with his ability you would not have a job. Show him some respect, he could buy you now. By the way, from the tone of your questions you may have a job waiting for you on the FOX Network.

Anyone gonna move out here with you? How many infant car seats do you own?

McFadden: I’m planning on having my sister move out with me, where she can help me out around the house. Maybe make me feel at home while I’m away.

Q: You mean, like, do women’s work?

McFadden: (Laughs) She’s a great help around the house, you know? She’s always keeping me positive. So she can help out, watch over me a little bit for me, it’ll help me out in a lot of ways.

  357. los angeles Raiders Says:

great day in Raiders history….I’d Like to see us draft one more DE,WR, AND A O Lineman for insurance, maybe we can find a gem in the rough in the 4th round. many chance of trading jordan, washington & shwigert for a 3rd round picK>>??

  358. Dakota Says:

    Later guys.

    WE DRAFTED MCFADDEN!

    Yesssssss!

  359. RaiderNation951 Says:

Next year we should get a lot of compensatory picks.

  360. Thec Says:

Yeah the dischargers have a lo of injuries. on top of LT being a wuss, it still hurts when i run and cut.

They really need a nt to replace williams, he is shot and wont make it thru this coming season. Haedwick will be out 6 mos with surgery, and the LB cooper was poped for substance. SD will be good just not great.

  361. los angeles Raiders Says:

dont think jerry was the guy that asked those questions…but if he did he was out of line

  362. los angeles Raiders Says:

I bet kiffin is going to dance tonight

  363. Dakota Says:

My money is on Ray Ratto or Nancy Gay…Jerry wouldn’t ask those questions.

  364. CJ Legend #34 Says:

I told you so Raider nation the Legend of Bo Jackson #34 is alive. Getr ready for round II. D-Mac and Bush in 2008. Rotate Fargas in and keep Rhodes. He is pretty productive for his cost. Lamont Jordan -broke mans Bo Jackson take care buddy see you on the other side of the field.

  365. Pirate Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh Says:

the real way to look at our draft is:

    rd 1 – McFadden
rd 2 – D.Hall, 24 years old with multiple pro bowls already (all these CBs being drafted are 22)
rd 3 – M.Henderson, but with the benefit of getting him a year early, learning the system, working with Cable (everybody clamors for a OT but forgets we drafted on last year)
    rd 4 – we’ll see tomorrow
rd 5 – G.Warren, who I guarantee will give more production that any DT we could draft in rd 5.
    rd 6 – we’ll see
    rd 7 – we’ll see

So this is what I would consider a phenomenal draft.

    Posted by ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley

I’m told by a Valley Ranch source that Jerry Jones was still trying to figure out a way to trade up for Darren McFadden on Saturday morning. Jones had maintained for months that he wouldn’t trade into the top 10, but during a news conference Tuesday, he left the door open.

“He knows that you rarely have a chance to take a truly special player,” said the source. “And Jerry thought this guy was an absolute superstar.”

I’m also told that it would’ve taken more than the No. 22 and No. 28 picks to secure McFadden. I think if McFadden had slipped to the Jets at No. 6, Jerry may have come after him.

    Haha take that Jerry Jones.

  373. Pirate Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh Says:

#356 – I agree and criticized this earlier (cringed when I read it), but I don’t think those are Jerry’s questions (though possible). It was a press conference type atmosphere with various reporters asking questions.

  377. in too Deep Says:

Well I guess I’ll come out of the woodwork and say I wish they would have gotten Dorsey. obviously Dmac looks phenominal but Defense should be our bread and butter. Hey D-mac prove me wrong, I hope you do!.

How does our team showcase guys for trade ie.. extra rb’s when they did’nt play all that often last year? bottom line when you got a dude that looks like Iron Mike Tyson available at a position weve been getting killed at take him. Now we gotta deal with him twice a year. Note to Lane, no dive plays for Dmac against the chiefs!

  378. Dan Says:

Pirate – I think we need 5 cbs, but all non-starters should be playing special teams. Either Routt or Washington will be dime back. And they’re paid way too much for that role. Based on late last year, Routt might have a bad attitude and have to go as well (recall how poorly he handled criticism last year).
Fabes needs to go and we will take the cap hit. Bums me out because two years ago, I thought he would be a star. I also thought he would break out last year. Now he’s at best an overpriced back up. At worst a cancer, or an outright cut.

Dakota – I agree with your RB assessment. Seems pretty unfortunate that we’re paying Fargas a bunch of money to be third string.

For both RB and CB, we have too many high priced players on the roster.

  379. Dan Says:

Having said all that – glad to see we have DMac given we think Kelly is better than Dorsey…

  380. Tommy Trojan Says:

wothout TD elway would never have won a SB and may not be in the HOF, his entire career is based on riding on TD’s back and “the drive”, which, however great, does not overshadow 10 years of sub par quarterbacking followed by 6 years of average QB play, and now he’s considered one of the top 5 QBs of all time? that’s ridiculous

  381. RFFL Says:

    Infant seats?

Dont worry about our run D we will b 10 Times better with out the aged Sapp who, though was excellent on passing downs but showed no effort against the run. Dont 4 get just 2 yrs ago our D was ranked 3rd over all in total Defense we have a solid core that can get the job done & with the addition of D Hall we can gamble more with our safeties. Have faith brothers & dont buy in to some of those supposed experts. prime example when they were hoping D Mac was drafted by the jets they spoke of all the good he can bring to that franchise when we got him all they wanted to speak of was his flaws. RAIDER HATERS & thats ok but we cant buy in to the hatred. I cant speak 4 all of u but i was born and raised in Oakland though im not there now I’ve been a Raider since birth so those of u thats been Raiders 4 over the last 3 decades know that we have always been hated . our moves always critizized.
