Walker due in Alameda tonight

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008 at 1:26 pm in Oakland Raiders.

If Javon Walker is this hard to keep track of when the 2008 regular season begins, JaMarcus Russell will have himself a wide open receiver.

Tracing the steps of Walker over the past few days is tricky business, but according to coach Lane Kiffin, the wide receiver is supposed to arrive in Alameda and be examined by the team’s medical staff Wednesday night and be with the team Thursday on the final day of organized team activities.

Kiffin declined to get into specifics regarding Walker’s condition, but did say, “The information I have at this point is he’s going to be fine. Training camp won’t even be an issue.”

The Raiders team statement is as follows:

“We are aware that Javon Walker was the victrim of a robbery. We have been told that he will make a full recovery in the near future and resume his preparation for the 2008 NFL season. we will provide further updates as they become available.”

Earlier Wednesday, Kennard McGuire, the agent for Walker, said in a statement that Walker had been released from the hospital and was “recovering in a private environment.”

That came as a surprise to the Las Vegas Police Department. Officer Jose Montoya, speaking on behalf of Lt. Clint Nichols, said it was his information that Walker was still hospitalized as of Wednsday morning.

“The investigation remains ongoing, he’s been upgraded to stable condition and we’re following up leads,” Montoya said.

It is not clear whether Walker suffered an orbital fracture, as has been reported. Nor has the story printed by TheDirty.com, which gave an account of Walker describing what happened, been confirmed.

The Web site decribed itself as a “friend” of Walker, and attributed a wild, hard-to-believe-account of what happened to the wide receiver, who was staying at the Bellagio.

“I was just back at my room and at about 5:30 in the morning, I got a knock at the door, I opened it and three guys with guns were there, they cracked me in the head a few times knocking me unconscious,” Walker said “They then robbed me of everything I had, my watch, money, everything! Somehow they got me to the car and dropped me off in the street. That’s what happened.”

Kiffin was keeping details in house.

`All I can give you is I spoke to him, he’s doing well, and he’s on a plane, he’ll be on a plane this evening, back here,” Kiffin said.

Kiffin said he hoped the Walker experience would resonate with other players on the team.

“All we can do is educate them the best that we can,” Kiffin said. “We can’t babysit ‘em. We talk to them all the time about certain places to be, where not to be, and you guys have heard it a million times, not many good things happen after midnight.

“This is an example of that, I think, just talking to some of our players today, relaying the message from Javon to them, I think it’s a wakeup call to some of them, just to remind them about how dangerous it is out there in certain places and how much they have to think before they put themselves in situations.”

Russell said it was a lesson for players to “watch your surroundings, it could happen to anybody,” and recommended “that you always (take) somebody with you when you go places.”

More details to come regarding practice later today . . .

Agent Kennard McGuire said Walker was “recovering in a private environment.” An aide to McGuire, of MS World in Richmond, Texas, declined to say where Walker was staying.

“Javon looks forward to getting back to his family and teammates,” the statement said, “and is looking forward to the start of the upcoming season.”

it’s funny-there were nice football topics being discussed, charger fan AKA mr comes on and the board goes back into the garbage.ignore him.keep the topic to football.

  • lefty 12

    CT-Dakota noticed.

  • JB

If Russell, McFadden & the other players got the message from this fiasco, then maybe it was worthwhile. Not to say that I’m happy that someone has to get hurt but sometimes all the talking in the world can’t communicate the message the one good ass whooping sends.

I can’t/don’t buy the story offered by Walker about the hotel room. Just doesn’t fly with all the video security in the Vegas hotels. More than likely, he pissed off some people at one of those clubs by “spraying them with the bubbly” or maybe just because of his poorly timed arrogance. They decided to show him a little “love” their way and the rest is history.

He is Soooooo Lucky that he wasn’t permanently injured. He easily could have been and there goes the NFL career and the BIG BUCKS and all the good things that go with it. These athletes just have to stop doing stupid sh*t.

Hopefully, all hands on board at the Silver & Black have taken note and learned a VERY VALUABLE lesson.

it’s hard to believe how self rightous some people are.the only thing we know is Walker got beaten and ended up in the hospital.maybe he went to buy a piece of a** and got mugged but was too embarrested to say what really happened.but that shouldn’t matter-it’s legal in Vegas and HE is the one who got beaten.

I have never been more embarassed for a team as I was last night….The Lakers have NO Heart, Passion or Pride. They were so soft….they played like the biggest P—–s! The Celtics plided with emotion and desire and played the game the way it is supposed to be played.

And I am a huge Laker Fan!!!

They got worked and didn’t deserve to win. They better “Man-Up” next year.

  • lefty 12

    bo-it’s over,let it go-this is a Raider blog,not a stinkin’ nba blog.

  • Huff24

    Remember him?

    PFT.com

Says Dolphins DE Quentin Moses of teammate Jason Taylor, “I learned more from Jason last year in the little bit I played behind him than I learned the whole time I’ve been playing the position.”

  • Jon Gruden’s wife!

Why is this even a story?

    Move on…

A few more players need to get their asses kicked…

You get drunk in my neighborhood, you get your ass kicked….

    Kiffin is a fool by saying…”we can’t babysit em”…

I can’t believe this guy is the Head Football Coach of the once great Oakland Raiders….

What are we, a bunch of girls now….?

    Can you spell APOCALYPSE NOW!

This whole situation screams setup, question is, who is being set up?

  • vegas raider

Lefty we had some good football talk going, I go to lunch try to do a little work and comeback and here we are again. So tell me, will Huff moving to FS allow him to actually make some impact plays? I think his speed should help make plays on the deep balls, and he seemed to be a good tackler in the box, just not a hard enough hitter.

  • vegas raider

Correction Lefty, not legal in Vegas, it is in Nye county which is Pahrump about 45 minutes away.

  • Exlaraiderseasonticketholder

It may not be legal but Vegas has the best ESCORT services where you can get anything for $$$$$$

  • Jon Gruden’s wife!

2 Words you’ll never hear come out of Lane Kiffin’s mouth….ever…ever?

    Super Bowl!

  • vegas raider

    Can’t disagree with that EX.

  • http://bojacksonship.com Bo Jackson’s Hip

I didn’t expect them to win anyway…just dis-heartening when one of my teams pie’s out. At least the Raiders should be much improved this year!!! And the A’s are playing tough!

  • Eyepatch

According to Kiffin Carter was the most polished receiver and with Curry on the fast track to 100% I’d say we got a good starting combo. Javon will have time to properly heal, I just hope he quits acting like a rock star and becomes a complete football player first like he is paid to do.

  • cfiorica

I’m beginning to think that (and this it totally crazy here) that the whole thing was staged to send a message and keep McFadden on the straight and narrow…or maybe he pissed off some pimp when he found out that the hooker he was with was actually a dude.

  • Eyepatch

And I bet if Kiffin is given enough time he will reach a Superbowl. I don’t know what you guys see but I see a Gruden clone in Kiffin, but with young, better players. I remember when Woodson and Gruden both got DUIs’ and it did not matter. The Walker episode will fine if he comes out healthy and passes his drug tests.

  • LTR

Remember folks, nothing has really been confirmed about walker’s injuries or what happened. All we know is that he got thumped upside the head. I’m not buying the story that Javon said he was attacked in his room. The site that broke that story is not reputable. My guess is they’re making it up looking for headlines. He must not be too wounded or they would not have released him this soon. That’s good news for the Nation.

  • ronpaul

As A bronco fan I am sooooooooooooooo glad we got rid of the garbage known as Javon Walker. Hey, I’m glad hes ok. I’m sorry that he got robbed. Sorry he got hurt. But I am glad hes associated with the raiders now. The broncos got 1 good season out of him and then he pulls the Green Bay on us. The raiders overpaid the guy and hes gonna sit out half the time hes a raider. Thank you raiders for taking that waste of space away from us. Love you raider fans.

  • Eyepatch

    0-1 will be Denver Ronpauleo.

I admit Javos story soes not sound right, but let remember this is Vegas. Seeing someone being carried in Vegas is not completely out of the question. Everyone would assume that the person was just drunk or something.

Ronpaul, u’s a b!tch. at least this seems like a reasonable case compared to you brandon marshall story. who the hell puts their hand through a tv set thing? slips from a mcdonalds bag? what an idiot.

  • Al´s middle finger

Thats right! Al set it all up just to teach McFadden & Jamarcus the importance of staying focused. Now Al will evoke that special little clause on the contract and cut Javon, and make him pay back the money plus interest!…Just win baby!

    > The niners will win the super bowl
    > Florida Pete is funny
    > K-Rock is a righteous man
    > ukf the police
    > this Walker stuff is way exciting
    > Al is finally on track to get us another championship

Keep it up MR! You’re a lot more pleasant to read now that you stopped with the racist crap.

  • dan anders

right now, 31 nfl gm’s are laughing their asses off because JW is not their problem. The 32nd, Mr. A. D., needs a change of underwear.

  • Sharpe

    Hey,

Atleast Javon will look like a legit Raider wearing a patch over one eye for a few weeks! Lol, jk! I think that we dodged a bullet. I hope that everyone on the team, including him, understands that and will act responsibly. I’m just glad his orbit is not fractured. Maybe he’ll end uo in Hawaii come Jan. 09.

    Long Live Da Nation

Cut his ass, paying to much for him

  • Rat Face Shanahan

I told Ya! I told Ya he was no good!

  • Senile Al

Hey Dan Anders, I don’t need new undies. Say what you want about Javon,he’s real fast, I know more about football than the whole NFL combined…Just ask me! Did I ever tell you I still got it.

Dang! I think that kid Kiffin just slipped a turd in my shorts.

  • thamanwithatheanswers

Las Vegas still being run by Mobsters, especially Bellagio. They saw someone with a cocky attitude in there Hotel, who was getting out off line and got checked. Just like TuPac he had a prior altercation
at the MGM, he was told not show his face there, couples months later he was there at the MGM. Got into another fight and look what happen. Going back “Javon Walker” Probably the Wynn Hotel was upset with Javon for Spraying Dom Perignon On their Nice High end Club. With thier nice Leather sofas and suede carpet.
Owner of the MR.Wynn Hotel is the same of the MGM.

“Doc…..Give it to me straight,..Doc, will I ever be able to catch a football!?

  • 702Nation

I find it hard to believe that he was taken from his room, their is a ton of security and surveillance in every hotel on the strip, it wouldnt be wise to have alot of bling and some cash on the side streets of the strip, tourist get got here all the time in the parking garages and on these side streets, tourist always get caught up this way chasing some skirt.

  • Just Win Baby

He deserved to have his ass kicked for ever playing for Denver in the first place. Now that he has atoned for that misdeed we can let the healing begin.

“Javon’s story sounds so fishy (kidnapped out of hotel room). Sounds like hes tying to cover something up. Makes me think that he was up to no good.

It will be very interesting once all the facts come out.”

I agree. I guess he never watched any Sopranos or he would have come up with MUCH better alibi :-)

Like, “I was a little drunk and wanted to get some fresh air and walk it off; I must have got hit from behind and the next thing I know is that I am waking up in a hospital.”

  • Carl

If I were al davis, i would’ve paid someone to jump walker for wasting my money on champagne-which is why i wouldn’tbe surprised if the boss hadn’t called the hit. what the heck is a professional anything doing in las vegas instead of working to be the best. as far as i can see, walker is a waste of money and talent, which would’ve been better spent on someone more mature, like a five year old.
