Web exclusive: The plight of Andrew Walter

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, August 1st, 2008 at 9:09 am in Oakland Raiders.

A web exclusive column on Raiders quarterback Andrew Walter was posted last night. Walter missed the evening session with a tired arm, the result of extra throwing because of missed practice time by starter JaMarcus Russell.

Thats the most news we have had on Andrew.
    Thanks Jerry
But you might have to have the mods fix my first post.

  3. La Milicia Negra Says:

man just watched NFLN’s top ten plays of the 2007 oakland raiders… Porter was better than I remebered him to be, he had a good block downfield on a fargas run in miami forgot about that one….

But Curry, man gotta love that dude…

  4. Andrews mom Says:

So Andrew was the better QB last year but he got in the kiffdoghouse and still isnt out of it.

I just knew my boy was better then McCown and DC.
    I knew it.
And I had got back on the Kiffbandwagon again.

  5. drray Says:

exactly like i said last year

  6. Andrews mom Says:

No wonder you are always quarrleing with people in here

  7. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Andrews Mom…

I honestly don’t give a flying rats ass about what they do for a living…

they should be enticing, hot and up-to-date…something our haven’t been since the late 90’s…

I can mention 5-8 better cheerleading squads… I guess it has something to do with , that there isn’t that many good looking girls in cali… NOOOOOT! and again I don’t care if they are doctors or lawyers, i’m not dating them… I look at them, and their hot-ness diminish each year…

  8. Exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

Wah, Wah, Wah. Walter got a bad deal. He is what he is. A 2nd or 3rd string backup qb. A clipboard holder.

  9. Raider Raul Says:

I used to really like and root for Walter, but it’s obvous no matter what happens, he’s our 3rd stringer until his contract is up next year.

  10. Dakota Says:

    How is it going Nation?

Is it just me or is time sllllooooooooooowwwwwiiiiiinnnnnnnggggggggg doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooown leading up to the 49ers game on the 8th?

My dad has ktla on dish network, so I have to head out to his place to watch the game…he is a Bears and Broncos fan…oh well.

  11. Dakota Says:

    ooops, sorry about that, lol.

  12. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Andrews Mom…

the only thing more pathetic than our 19-61 is our cheerleading squad… but if you think they are hot, than fine by me, I find them pathetic… and so many other NFL teams, has better squads… hope they will fire the girl who directs the squad, and get a person whos standards isn’t the 90’s stripper look…

furthermore.. its also fine by me that you like plastic women, but I like them to be a women, not to look like a women…

  13. Mistabrown Says:

    Trade Fargas, sign Rankin.

Serious competition for SeaBass! Bring in a kicker or 3!

  14. El Dirty Says:

    Morning Nation!

    Good job Andrew!

  15. Dakota Says:

Walter is counting the minutes till he can get out of Oakland…there is no chance we re-sign him. He is done with us, and I think between Shell and Kiffin, we really blew it with him. Shell just because he destroyed our team and let Walter get killed and then Kiffin for starting the likes of DC and McClown over Walter…we blew it and I would not be surprised to see him succeed elsewhere.

I guess it is moot because we have Russell, but I still hate to see a pick like Walter wasted due to mismanagement and other BS.

  16. Andrews mom Says:

I think we will all be rooting for my boy at some point and time this year.
I just hope that he makes great plays and proves he is a good Raider team member when and if he gets the chance.
Im all in with the entire team from the water boy to the big eyed cheerleaders to a back up QB

  17. lefty 12 Says:

so andy’s mom-i suppose you like that lying biotch Condi Rice?

  18. Andrews mom Says:

    Thanks dirty!!

I knew someone would appreciate it.

  19. El Dirty Says:

We Could trade Fargas and Walter and Higgens and get a very good Tackle and Defensive player SLB or RDE OR …

  20. Marv Hubbard Rules Says:

Kiffen does seem to have a bit of a vindictive side ala Art Shell. It seems that when you get in his doghouse (2007 – Walters, Higgens, Jordan, Madsen, etc.) you stay there.

  21. Thec Says:

Rankin is nice, he can even catch

  22. Andrews mom Says:

Hell no, I hate almost everyone in fedgov., although she has earned her way to where she is. It didnt take votes and money or being the spouse of someone rich or famous.

Condi is one super smart woman with lots of talent and she deserves credit for rising further then any black woman and argueably any woman period, in this, the most powerful country in the history of the world.

  23. Exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

    Marv Hubbard Rules
Good job of analyzing those who would be in anyone’s doghouse. Those non-producers were in mine!

  24. La Milicia Negra Says:

If Kiffin was smart, he let Walter play all the time he can afford in preseason…

If we get Walter on tape playing in a modern offense he will bring in a higher pick… I still think we should get an 2nd for him… and I know I’m gonna get some beatings for that =)

The question is, how much time can Kiffin afford to spend on the QB battle, when you have in mind, that our starter is almost a rookie, and our backups hasn’t played in over a year…

  25. RaiderTay Says:

Walter does seem to whine a lot. Shut up and play. We are all trying to forget 2006.

  26. Exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

    La Milicia Negra

beatings for that =) beatings for that =)
beatings for that =) beatings for that =)
beatings for that =) beatings for that =)
beatings for that =) beatings for that =)

    lol

  27. Andrews mom Says:

    I will be back later.
I am gonna find some euro women with hairy legs and fishbreath to recruit for the Raiders so LMN will smile again while watching TV 10,000 miles away.

  28. El Dirty Says:

Question who would you take Higgens Or watkins?

    My would choose Watkins

  29. La Milicia Negra Says:

Condi is a good company women, but she is the worst thing happened to government. she has no empathy and the fact she isn’t able to start a family is a big sign that she isn’t capable of being ‘human’ I bet she rather go to her piano and play for several hours than be social….

but hey, thats just a claim =)

  30. Andrews mom Says:

    Walter whines a lot?
You cant back that up because its not true.

  31. El Dirty Says:

    I*

  32. Dakota Says:

    LMN,

The time for that has passed…last year was the year we could have showcaesed AW, now we have to prep Russell all preseason and make sure Tui knows the new offense to be the backup.

If AW would have came in and performed adequately in a couple of games last year we might have found a taker for him for a 2nd or 3rd rounder…now we will just have to allow him to play out his contract and leave as a free agent (unless some team loses two QBs and becomes desperate).

    What a wasted opportunity

  33. La Milicia Negra Says:

    El Dirty…

I’m leaning over to Watkins too… I like that he is higher, than Higgins, and I like that it was a guy, Knapp knew form Atlanta… where as Higgins was a draft pick, you just know as much as your scouts give ya…

  34. RaiderNation75 Says:

Andrew Walter had his chance several times. The only glimpse he gave us of potential was preseason a few years back. When he got into a game situation, he choked. He looked like a scared rabbit back in the pocket. Granted, the O-Line was not exactly solid, but if he were truly a QB wanting a starting job he would have done something, anything! He could have been most likely been groomed better by the coaching staff, but you can’t teach heart! it’s either there or it’s not.

  35. Andrews mom Says:

Almost time to go to my non paying volunteer job. And thats a good thing because this place brings me down sometimes.

This is the honest truth, I have never ever in my life been around fans of any team who complained as much as the fans here do.

  36. RaiderNation75 Says:

This is the honest truth, I have never ever in my life been around fans of any team who complained as much as the fans here do.

    And you are doing what???

  37. El Dirty Says:

    LMN

Watkins went to my High School… I’m a lot older than him but that boy is VERY good he just took a little to progress he broke all kinds of records at HELIX

  38. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Dakota…

yeah, sadly, yeah I still hope we could get him in there, and just get a quarter video on him…

I have a weird suspicion that B. beli would like to get him as heir(ess) lol for brady… I think he would strive in a team that are build, and not a team like us under construction =)

  39. El Dirty Says:

We are not complaining… we are being objective…. lol… Such bs

  40. La Milicia Negra Says:

I guess its considered ‘complaining’ when you come with statements that the majority doesn’t like…

  41. Ryan Says:

For all of you Direct TV people: If you don’t have the Sports Pack (Raider Report is on 696 at 6:30pm), you can get it for $2 per month for 6 months.

  42. El Dirty Says:

    Stay up Andrew!

The proof will be in the puddin.

  43. Andrews mom Says:

    #75

I hardly ever say anything negative. I might make a wise crack now and then when I am rooting hard for my boy. But I actually respect Kiff’s opinion and am behind him 100% no matter what happens to Andrew.

  44. El Dirty Says:

    Ryan

What r u talking about? Do we get the exibition games too?

  45. La Milicia Negra Says:

    trade higgins for a 7th rounder…

  46. CopenhagenFan Says:

Yeah the management of Andrew Walter has been a disgrace. We never get anything in return for the players that don’t work out here…..not even a hall of fame receiver in his prime….

  47. El Dirty Says:

    LMN

I would package him with another player.

  48. Coach on Wheels Says:

If something happens to JR, mobile or not, Walter is our best option. He earned a shot last year but we wasted time with two guys who had no future here.

As for his body language, how would any of us feel if we outperform all comers (including the young JR in team drills) and we can’t even lock up the 2nd spot?

The kid is the most accurate passer we’ve had since Gannon. Last year over 60 QB’s started at least one game in the NFL thanks to injury/performance issues. We can all keep our fingers crossed but odds are JR will miss a game somewhere.

I’d much rather see Walter trot out than jelly-armed, inaccurate (but nimble) Tui. Don’t be quick to give up our safety net. (see also Barry Sims safety net LT)

  49. RaiderNation75 Says:

    Andrews mom,

I’m not doggin on you. I just kinda found it funny that it sounded like you were complaining about complainers. Just thought it sounded funny!

  50. CopenhagenFan Says:

If Higgins isn’t good enough to make our roster with our subpar receiving corps then he probably won’t fetch a 7th.

  51. Ryan Says:

    El Dirty,

Good question, I hope so. You get all the Fox Sports channels. So if the game is on, you should. It’s been a couple years since I had the sports pack,(watched all of Art Shell’s conferences). I can’t remember if the games were blacked out.

  52. Ryan Says:

I’ve block out most of that. (Must be all the Crown Royal)

  53. El Dirty Says:

    Ryan

I would love to watch those games live! Instead of finding out the result then watching the game 2 days later… ITs just not the same.

  54. Andrews mom Says:

    COW nails it again

  55. Thec Says:

    Post 49 agreed

  56. Andrews mom Says:

    OK I cooled down.
I may have gone overboard with the complaining stuff but my fav player and fav girl were being dissed and I doubt anyone here would take that lying down.

  57. Andrews mom Says:

Not to mention Condi got caught up in it
    : )

  58. CopenhagenFan Says:

Andrews Mom…your boy has spent most of his career lying down

  59. El Dirty Says:

    What’s up Thec

    Did you get the info

  60. RaiderNation75 Says:

All is good Bro, all is good!

  61. Andrews mom Says:

My boy holds most QB records in the PAC TEN, has his choice of some of the hottest women on the planet and plays for the OAKLAND RAIDERS
You live in a foreign country with nothing better to do then make lame jokes.

  62. Coach on Wheels Says:

Trade Higgins? Why? Got a man crush on the Raiders annual “he’s a stud” rookie WR? EVERY year history-impaired Raider fans get all wet about some blazing rookie WR who is going to be great. Morant, Francis, and the like. Our rookie WR’s are on the fast track to the waiver wire. Our sophmore class (last year’s studs) are stepping up.
Read the reports! Amazing. Jerry has reported Higgins catching many a deep pass this camp. The other sophmore, Holland is busting out and Watkins is all over the place.
It isn’t over yet but your WR’s to date are Walker, Carter, Curry, Higgins, Holland and Watkins.
Shields is going to be catching frozen turkeys from Sam Keller at Costco is he doesn’t step it up. “Potential” you say? Higgins, Holland, Carter and Watkins aren’t grizzled vets. They are guys with potential who are actually doing something.
(see also Trevor “nothing but bad reports” Scott)

  63. JediRaider Says:

After his first preseason game, I thought Walter was going to be a great QB – I still think he can be a good QB, but he needs a good line – He would fit in well in an Indy style offense, Pat style offense, Steeler Offense, or the Norv Turner style offense (all of which are somewhat similar). I do wonder if Al had given a good head coach with a Norv style offense 5 years to build this team if Walter would have developed into a pro-bowl caliber QB or not with the right pieces around him (mainly an execellent o line). Wa(l)ter under the bridge at this point, but I trust Kiffin’s judgement a lot more than Norv’s, especially on any issue relating to leadership – my take on the Chargers is that Norv’s leadership resulted in a 5-5 record through ten games last season, and it was the player’s leadership that resulted in 11-5 to finish the season. Norv stinks as a Head Coach and there’s no way for him to get anything “extra” out of his players – in SD’s case, they already knew what they had, so it was just a matter of them looking in the mirror and living up to what they had proven to themselves under the leadership/motivation of Schotenheimer.

I think Kiffin understands the importance and exact dynamics of leadership at the QB position better than any coach we’ve had recently (perhaps even better than Gruden who is almost like an extension of the QB and able to fill that void if necessary). If he’s not high on any part of Walter’s leadership ability or demeanor, than I trust him. I think Walter’s best shot is being the backup to an o.k. QB in a good system who gets hurt and Walter can step in as a backup with lower expecations – if he succeeds, he will develop respect from his teamates and his demeanor won’t be a problem – basically he needs to prove it before being named “the guy”.

I wish him luck wherever he goes next season but we’ve seen what Tui can do and if Walter beats him out fair and square in camp and preseason, then Walter should be our #2 guy – I’ll take his arm and height over Tui’s mobility (which never seemed to translate to the field anyway).

At least Walter will get some quality good reps in preseason this year and we can show him off as trade bait – I bet he impresses.

  64. Coach on Wheels Says:

    Don’t play Rankin!

Don’t give him reps in preseason games. Hide him. Then cut him and sign him to the practice squad after he clears waivers. Then after Fargas, DMAC or Bush crack their dome he can be activated.

Odds are we’ll need a back-up RB at some point. It’s the NFL.

  65. FIRE KIFFIN Says:

There is no excuse for Kiffin not giving Walter a shot last season.

Lame has no feel for the game.

    Just Win Baby.

  66. El Dirty Says:

    Cow

I figure trade him while he still has value for a position we have greater need for. Most of our wide recievers are either giving even or greater production at this point. I think we need to package him with other players to trade for a more valuable player.

  67. CopenhagenFan Says:

Andrews mom….ok…I meant his professional career :-)

And yeah…I live in a foreign country. One that’s much better than the one I used to live in LOL

  68. El Dirty Says:

    #65

He is not mobile enough for this offense, that’s why he never got a chance… Kerry (statue) Collins has better legs than him.

  69. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Andrews Mom…

I didn’t say anything negative about your boy… In fact I’ve been rooting for him since he got drafted, and I defended him under Shells offense (or lack thereof) and guys like brooks, McCown and Culpepper should have been backups to him…

That said… I will always bash our cheerleaders, because its so pathetic, perhaps they are good lawyers or doctors or even dancers… I really don’t care, they are not hot, most of them look like the were casted to be in a 90’s stripper movie…

2 AFC west teams has better looking girls and more enticing uniforms, and a handful other teams from the rest of the league is way out of our league…

just take a look at their uniforms, doesn’t it look like it was made to the Charlies angels tv series? or something from Hugh Hefners old playboyclub in Chicago??

  70. Andrews mom Says:

    First COW then Jedi
This is gonna be a great thread.

    Jedi said
I think Kiffin understands the importance and exact dynamics of leadership at the QB position better than any coach we’ve had recently

Thats the big part of what Kiff is doing. He is bringing up a team around him and these guys are gonna want to play well for each other as much as the money.
We may think we know whats best or who is best at each position but Kiff is playing chess while most of us, myself included cant set up the board for checkers.

  71. CopenhagenFan Says:

LMN…I’m the idiot living in a foreign country

  72. RaiderNation75 Says:

It’s not just Kiffin, Walter has been around our coaching mary-go-round. There has got to be something that we are not seeing or hearing about that the coaches have knowledge about. I really thought this guy was going to be something special, but he must have pissed someone off.

  73. La Milicia Negra Says:

    lol fire kiffin…

how long will you keep that silly nick? why not call yourself ‘Hire Art Shell back’

  74. El Dirty Says:

Walter walks around like somebody kicks his dog and slaps his Mom every day! Who wants to follow that?

  75. CopenhagenFan Says:

Walter was shell-shocked last year and they sat him in order to build his hunger for getting back in the game. The fact that he is not a great fit with the offense didn’t help him either, but I think that they held him out for his own good.

Maybe he’ll even go after the next fumble he coughs up.

  76. Andrews mom Says:

Living in other country was all I could come up at the time. It was pretty lame especially next to my first paragraph.
I better cool off some more.

  77. Bob Marley Says:

Hey Andrew Walter, how about you put the time in to improve your footwork, agility and decision making to give yourself a better shot instead of just wondering why you can´t “catch a break”.?

From what I’ve seen of AW, besides his moblity issues, he´s the kind of guy who will make an impressive throw followed by an ill-advised one. He is going into his 4th season, he should be over that.

Kiffin even said the other day that the back-up job will go to “the guy who takes better care of the ball”.

Also, Kiffin is alway saying how he loves competition, but it seems to me AW has already decided that he “doesn´t fit” and he´s just waiting to get out instead of earning valuable points with Kiffin by working on his limitations and competing all-out.

If not for the Raiders then for himself, with the talent at QB so scarce, people all around the league keep their eye on guys like Walter and he doesn´t seem to be handling himself all that well.

  78. CopenhagenFan Says:

Andrews Mom…yeah man cool off and stick to the facts. I would say that most of Raider Nation likes your boy. I’d love him if we could get a 3rd rounder for him.

  79. Andrews mom Says:

Its almost like the DC thing.
Remember last year when he was ready to play again but we heard some news of him pulling a hammy after practice racing someone. We never heard from him again. He seemed to have left town and the Raiders didnt say anything.
Maybe its a black hole thing

  80. Andrews mom Says:

yeah I better stick to facts like the rest of you fact filled fountains of knowledge.

  81. Coach on Wheels Says:

The problem is multi-player trades NEVER happen in the NFL. Higgins is the Jordan type. Why should I give you something for a guy you’ll cut. PLUS. Trasde him for what? A 7th round pick?

Let’s play “does it make sense”.

Higgins beats out Chazz (a late round pick). We trade Higgins for a late draft pick. We use the pick to draft a guy of Chazz quality. So we traded a guy better than Chazz for a guy the same as Chazz? If that makes sense, I have a $5 bill I’ll trade you for a $20 bill. Plus Higgins and Holland are showing what a year of learning does. So, lets start over a be another year behind?

MYTH: We are deep at WR. Curry and Walker are the only two guys with significant starting experience and they could snap their knees/ankles at any moment. Nobody else has proven anything yet. People were saying this same “we’re set at WR” garbage each of the last two preseasons. By season’s end it was, “we need a WR.”

WR is a position of need until proven otherwise.

Andrews Mom…yeah man cool off and stick to the facts. I would say that most of Raider Nation likes your boy. I’d love him if we could get a 3rd rounder for him.

and a free bowl of soup!! Just kidding, just kidding!!! lol

  83. CopenhagenFan Says:

Andrews Mom…yeah it seems like there IS something fishy with the way our QB’s have acted, both your boy and DC.

I think they were not especially pleased with the way that Kiffin dealt with the QB situation last year.

Hell, WE as fans were about to lose it over the fact that McClown was appointed the starter time and time again, even with injuries. Just think how the other QB’s might have felt.

  84. Don Hate Says:

Andrews mom dont you have another son and how is he? you should know since you are his mom right?????

  85. CopenhagenFan Says:

RaiderNation..soup is good food bro….ha ha

  86. Andrews mom Says:

Better sit down mister don hate.
I hate to break the news but
    Im not really Andrews mom
    Im not even a mom
And no, I dont have big eyes.

  87. CopenhagenFan Says:

Coach on Wheels. I’m with you on that one. Nobody’s going to give us anything for Higgins or any other of our second tier receivers. WR’s of their caliber are a dime a dozen. There are hundreds of project types in the later rounds who have wheels.

NOW, one thing is clear….maybe our receivers will be able to improve with a QB who can throw a 20 yard bullet, and where the guys covering them don’t sit on them in coverage and actually have to respect a wide spectrum of throws?

  88. JediRaider Says:

Coach on Wheels – A very good reminder on Raider WR draft picks – We’ve seen a lot come and go – I thought Doug (”E. Fresh”) Gabriel was going to be a stud and it looked like he was in NE for the first couple of weeks before he got benched and cut only to resign with us and get cut again. I hope we do carry 6 WR’s this year and only 5 CB’s (Hall, Aso, Routt, Bowie (I like him a lot as our primary Nickel in the seasons to come), and best remaining Special Teamer). With Howard and Morrison so good in coverage, Huff’s ability to step in if needed, and our man system, we don’t need more than that and we’re done developing CB’s with Aso and Hall so we don’t need three people behind the departed F. Washington to push him/find a replacement. We do need to reserve a roster spot imho for a developmental WR so I hope we carry 6.

Anyway Coach, What do you think about Walker? I like the risk/reward in getting him, but with his signing bonus we’re essentially married to him for three years or we are going to take a massive cap hit and he doesn’t sound like he’s coming around quick enough and his off the field issues, although he never did anything illegal, certainly demonstrate something to be concerned about regarding his level of commitment to the game that you don’t want in your #1 guy.

The preseason will be the best place to judge these guys, because college production, size, and 40 times and training camp don’t always translate to production on the field; that’s one thing history should teach us.

  89. El Dirty Says:

    Cow
They have had package deals in the NFL… Eagles are trying to create a trade package for Reggie Wayne. They said it could include Reggie Brown, Chris Gocong and a 1st round pick. That I found real quick but it could work but I agree with you that we are thin at WR. I would still package Higgens for a better T or LB

  90. RaiderNation75 Says:

YAH!! I can’t wait for JR to burn that Denver Donko back field. I wanna see blue and orange bleed all over the field. Then the shot of Shanahannannan looking at his play sheets and shaking his head!! THAT is what I want to see…

  91. Don Hate Says:

Yeah I was going to say because I know Kellen, Andrews brother! And I’m sure they wouldnt appreciate some lame posing as their mom. Kellen sure is the better athlete of the two. Man he’s got a hell of a 3 ball! Too bad he played B-Ball and not football.

  92. FIRE KIFFIN Says:

LMN- Your name is weak in any language.

Lame has a long way to go if he wants to catch Art Shell in Raider victories.

Art is a Raider. Lame is a traitor.

    Just win Baby.

  93. La Milicia Negra Says:

I Think Walter is a victim of racism, its clearly just because he is black, its typical of an old white owner, like Al Davis, to put a black QB like Walter in the dog house…

  94. CopenhagenFan Says:

Art Shell was a great Raider and he was an ok coach the first time around. The game has passed him by and Kiffin is the future.

Fire Kiffin – If Al fired Kiffin today who would you hire?

  95. Exlaraiderseasonticketholder Says:

Walter reminds me of David Carr. Took such a bad beatdown he was never the same.

  96. Bob Marley Says:

    Follow up…77

From a talent standpoint, AW is head and shoulders above McCown, but last year Kiffin would rather play McCown with a painful foot injury that pretty much took away McCown´s percevived adavantage (mobility) rather than go with AW.

It´s the same deal with AW and Tui, this should not even be a competition, but it is. At some point we have to start looking past AW´s mobility issues and wonder if there´s something more troubling behind the Coaches lack of confidence in AW.

  97. JediRaider Says:

Andrews Mom – The Chess / Checkers analogy is perfect and you’re dead on with Kiffin – you can tell with the way he answers questions, sputtering and rambling like he does, that he considers every variable and detail when he goes through his evaluation process. And so far, he hasn’t made a bad decision yet once he’s had guys in camp or through the season (see Mike Williams cut again even though he lost all the weight, Zack Crockett done, Q. Moses cut again after he cut him while we kept Richardson, Culpepper making too many mistakes, and I’m sure there are a few more). Based on Kiffin’s assessment of Mario Henderson, I’d say he’s going to hit the waiver wire soon. Even though he drafted some of these guys, at least he’s dumping them quickly after he’s had a chance to evaluate them in practice/game situations.

  98. Andrews mom Says:

I worried about disrespecting their family and I try not be trouble in here.

I signed up thinking I would make a few jokes about Kiff not starting his best QB and didnt think I would continue using the name. But that was last year and I am still here.
If it gets to be disrespecting in any way I will suicide the moniker and use another.

  99. FIRE KIFFIN Says:

Jedi – With all due respect, I beg to differ.

Starting the Clown was a HORRIBLE decision.

    Just Win Baby.

  100. Don Hate Says:

No not at all. I guess I assumed you were actually claiming to be there mother. If you were I know personally they wouldnt appreciate that. But if no harm is intended than do whatever pleases yourself. As much as some people dont like Andrew , himself and Kellen are stand up guys. Very humble, very nice. Kellen is the biggest guy you’ll see pop 3’s in your face all day on the B-Ball court!

  101. La Milicia Negra Says:

Man I remeber how much beating i got here when I first suggested that Crocket should have his walking papers… I was a traitor and what not, a few month later Kiffin does exact that, then its not even okay, but now over a year later, people gets on with the program…

I think we (us FANS) should be glad everytime a playre gets cut, and especially if its a veteran.. that just means our teams getting better… misguided loyalty is a team killer, look what happens in GB…

  102. Oakglenn Says:

Coach is right about our WR’s. Shoot, Jerry Porter was our NUMBER ONE last year!! Jerry Porter couldn’t catch a cold. Curry has been a very good possession guy who does come up big. We DESPERATELY needed some play makers and the Godfather went out and got the two best ones available. Drew Carter is the one no one sees coming. That, (barring injury) was a good signing.

  103. DesertPirate Says:

I get so tired of hearing FireKiffin talk his poison about our head coach. Get used to the fact that Lane Kiffin is the coach of the Raiders and his success is our success. If you aren’t for him, you aren’t for the Raiders. It’s that simple.

  104. Don Hate Says:

Fire Kiffin real name = James Lofton

  105. RaiderNation75 Says:

As long as the O-line gels. They gotta give JR time to work. If/when that happens, we are going to be unstoppable! Big strong QB, big play backfield, and some very capable WRs. I am telling you, we are on our way. O-line is going to make or break us.

  106. CopenhagenFan Says:

Fire Kiffin..who should we hire as coach?

  107. Oakglenn Says:

First off if you guys knew anything about Kiff, taking care of the rock is PARAMOUNT to him. P-A-R-A-M-O-U-N-T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The San Diego Dischargers statistically were not that much better than us last year offensively. The Dischargers were again ranked in the middle of the pack defensively. Why were they sooooo much better than us won loss wise????? Turnover differential. They were plus a million, we were minus a million. Hence a 20 game difference.
Rewind back to the Phony Whiner preseason game and Walter had what?, three or four turnovers or potential utrnovers in 5 minutes. That, gets you benched. Good for Kiff.

  108. La Milicia Negra Says:

Hmm nobody thought post 93 was funny, I tried to be brein-like all I could…

  114. La Milicia Negra Says:

If we bring back Culpepper I become viking fan.. nah, not likely, still hate purple… though My hatred towards Daunte is strong, it wont overshine my love to the raiders..

  120. CopenhagenFan Says:

We should fire Kiffin only if we hire Norv Turner back

  121. CopenhagenFan Says:

I actually like Daunte better than Tui….Tui is a complete turd.

yeah plus to slow to get to the line…..

  123. Don Hate Says:

CFan I’m all for DC over Tui!

  124. CopenhagenFan Says:

The only reason Marty-ball ever worked (albeit only in the regular season) was because his teams had a good plus/minus ratio and did not commit penalties.

  125. La Milicia Negra Says:

Man this is sad, I’m a grown man (or nearly) have no plans, its friday night and all my buddies is outside the country… Saaaad

  126. CopenhagenFan Says:

  127. Bob Marley Says:

Good point on Turnovers, looking at some stats the other day I noticed that the 07 Raiders had more Turnovers (37) than trips to the Red Zone (35).

  130. Oakglenn Says:

LMN, last time I looked, Europe was packed with European chicks. I always found them to be uber fun.

  131. RaiderNation75 Says:

Tui does blow! How does this guy do just enough to keep a spot???

  132. Don Hate Says:

Man I just had a bad thought. If J Russ gets injured we are screwed! Unless brett is still around.

  133. CopenhagenFan Says:

Oakglen..European chicks don’t dig the loner type who is solo, flowing in his own groove, without social acceptance…believe me, I’ve tried it LOL

  134. CopenhagenFan Says:

    RaiderNation…perhaps Kiffin likes a mobile QB with a rag arm…case in point…McClown?

  135. RaiderNation75 Says:

Yeah, McClown was such a disappointment! Maybe he was using him so that JR could see what not to do once he got the go!! MAN what a concept. The season was a building one anyway!! MAN what a coaching move!!!

  136. Oakglenn Says:

Bob M, you would think with the record the Dischargers have posted the last two years they have to have like the #5 ranked O and the #6 ranked D. It’s kind of surprising when you break them down.

Think about our games against them. For the most part we played them even up. In the first game last year in SD, we played the worst half of football on earth, Howard took a pick to the house, our defense stuffed them, and then a long pass got us down to the one yard line with a minute to go in the half, with a chance to tie the game. AND, WE GOT THE BALL TO START THE 2ND HALF!! things were looking up!!! Culpepper-Sack, fumble, sack, int, on like four straight plays, doomed that game. Same thing with the game here in Oakland. INT on the first play of the game. Jeeez.

  137. BIG AL's GOON Says:

The Kiffin love is alive and well I see. The way some of you carry on about him “if” things don’t work out I hope alot of you don’t go and hurt yourselves in some form or fashion because he will be fired, without a doubt. Big AL will not stand for another well below 500 season. I’m not nearly as impressed and it seems neither is Big AL as some here with Kiffin. Excuses aside we only won 4 games last year. Norv Turner of all people has a better first year win/lose record. I’d like to see some winning lead by Kiffin before I will start crediting him with being a good to great coach. It’s way to soon for those type of titles.

Also what so impressive with high draft picks being cut? He should have never been drafted. Besides, Q. Moses is on the M. Dolphins fighting for a job and has more sacks than J. Richardson. Mario Henderson also seems to be yet another wasted draft pick along with a few others that Kiffin cut. To me Kiffins decisions have been questionable at times, but I will reserve judgment until after the season.

  138. La Milicia Negra Says:

Oakglenn you’re right, but you need a wing-man here, as CopenhagenFan says, otherwise they just pity you, and not the good way =)

  139. 909raiderlifer Says:

Sadly no, tiny LMN’s walking around, not that I know off, that is…

Did you upgrade your sons jersey, or is he still walking around in that #18??

  142. CopenhagenFan Says:

great that I just bought a Les Paul hæ hæ

  143. CopenhagenFan Says:

LMN he’s still in his #18 actually! But yesterday I had him running paterns in Fælledparken with me gunning Nerf (that’s a soft foam football) bullets into his gut. He’s 10 years old and has outstanding speed and size.

  147. CopenhagenFan Says:

Oakglenn..yeah I did…I just bought this wild “Gibson Guitar of The Week” Les Paul. It is totally cool. It cost a fortune, because the prices are so crazy here, but it was worth it. I play in a Guns N Roses cover band so I had to make the move with my other guitar being a Telecaster ha ha.

  148. CopenhagenFan Says:

RaiderNation > I hope so! I’m training him to be one of the premiere wideouts in Denmark ha ha. I started when he was 6 years old.

The great thing about him is that he refuses to kick a ball ha ha.

His favorite player is Justin Fargas. We need to upgrade our roster so he has a better role model that plays WR.

  150. CopenhagenFan Says:

yeah I did, It looked really fun. but all guys left I know who have just the smallest interest in football is either fat or lazy, LOL, well there is one from the University,

  157. Coach on Wheels Says:

Sorry work intrudes…one more note before I go.

    Someone asked me about Walker.

The biggest problem I have with him is that we’re married to him thanks to his contract / status and not performance. If Higgins is a better deep threat and Carter / Curry better possession guys, do we start Higgin/Curry or Higgins/Carter? Are we stuck with Walker even if he isn’t producing?

The guy COULD have a solid year. Is he going to suddenly morph into a team player who sticks by JR and the team after a INT? If we only pass 12 times and win (ala Miami 07) is Walker going to cry over 0 catches? The guy has had two above average seasons among 4 times as many injury and attitude filled disasters.

The risk / reward isn’t about money. I don’t care about Al’s money. The risk is having the next Randy Moss poison pill in our young locker room. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Walker will step up. If not, I hope they jettison him before he damages JR, DMAC, Miller etc…

I was pleased to read he got fired up in camp on that deep catch. First good thing about his attitude I’ve read since we signed him. Keep it going.

  158. CopenhagenFan Says:

RaiderNation..yeah…my high school only had 2 guys over 200 lbs. I actually played OG as well, but made all league. But still, way too small to get anything done.

I played against Matt Brock, who was on Green Bay. He gave me a forearm shiver that rocked my world LOOOOOL

  159. CopenhagenFan Says:

Coach…you’re laying it on the line tonight. Thank you for your insightful comments…very thought-provocing and right on target.

  160. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Cfan…

why not a TE or something then?

in my short 3 year career as a football player (Muhahaha good one) I played 3 positions.

First year I played tailback, but my ankles and knees couldn’t take the twist and turns I made with my torso, so then I became a TE, i had good hands (or good enough) but I was too short i’m about 5-10, so during the second season my coach told me my knowledge of the offense and hands would make me a good safety… so for nearly 1½ i played FS… but again not at any level that could be compared with US standards… the worst High School team would beat us with 3 digits in each quarter…

  161. CopenhagenFan Says:

LMN I had no wheels. I started as a fullback but was promptly told to get my ass over with the linemen. But back then I was a workout warrior so I could hang with the big boys. Now this was also like many years ago and linemen in my conference were like max 240 lbs.

  162. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Cfan…

yeah, the competition is much harder over there of course

  163. JediRaider Says:

FIRE KIFFIN – I’m no more of a fan of McClown than you are, but DC was totally unreliable last year, Russell wasn’t ready, and Walter didn’t have the game experience to help us win, in Kiffin’s opinion. Kiffin’s goal was to change the culture and develop some consistency on offense – even though the Clown consisently stunk, he was more predictable than DC, who would look good one drive and then fumble on the next or try to make something out of nothing when something just wasn’t there.

I was definetly calling for McClown’s head after he missed Porter on a wide open TD that would have won the game in Denver. The only pass he ever overthrew in his life! I also suffered threw his weak armed garbage in the Houston game at the Mac, and it was painful to watch. But as painful as it was, it looked like a real offense, as opposed to the Walsh/Shell offense that DC looked to be operating when he was in there. Even when DC looked good in Miami, it seemed more luck against a terrible team than anything else.

Anyway, Kiffin wanted to establish a rhythm to the offense, and although McCown was weak and erractic in his throws, he did do things correctly from a mental aspect which I think helped stabalize the team last year after years of disarray, and set the foundation for this year. As Kiffin said throughout last year, he wanted the pieces in place for Russell to succeed before throwing him to the wolves, and a big part of that is making sure everyone else knows their assignments and reads so Russell can step in and better translate his knowledge from the classroom to the field in a stable environment where his teamates are doing things correctly. So the Clown did that better than either DC or Walter – I don’t believe Kiffin would hold out Walter if Walter clearly outperformed the other two, and Walter did get some playing time last year, so it’s not like the Porter/Shell situation where he was purposely held out for no good reason.

  164. DirtyBathWater Says:

My problem with this whole AW thing is what Bob Marley said AW is clearly better than tui and mccown just because he may not be “as” mobile than the other two, I mean really how much more mobile are they than AW they don’t have the legs of a Vick or a Seneca Wallace I last remember. AW can make all the throws and is fairly accurate when given time, kiffin says he don’t fit the system but how many times are you gonna bootleg per game? I though running a bootleg is somewhat in the trick play department and we all know that they don’t always work. My point is mobility and aint a hill of beans if your not accurate and don’t have the arm strength to make the throw and as I last recall mccown has a weak arm and so does tui. The player that gets the pass is my beloved gannon and that’s because he was a freakin general a genuis on the field and the other back ups don’t have that ( tui and mccon) set AW free if he’s not in our plans and go get a mobile veteran

I’m interested to know because I haven’t heard too many negatives about him – thanks (BTW, I’m not being sarcastic – I truly want your take).

  170. DirtyBathWater Says:

It is time to extract a little revenge on the girls from Denver! I would like to toss that horse dude they have up into the Black Hole for about 5 minutes!!

  174. JediRaider Says:

    LMN -

Sure – I’m not sure what parts are clear and what is, so I’ll elaborate on everything (I know you all love that;)), no disrespect intended -

First, “the Mac” is McAfee coliseum and watching the clown throw passes through the first three quarters in that heat was painful as hell – he was underthrowing everyone, even the dump passes.

Second, As opposed to the Tom Walsh/Art Shell offense that we ran in 2006 which was basically a dusted off playbook from 1970 based on “Sid Gillman’s vertical attack offense” (the foundation to some modern offenses that guys like Norv Turner run) that we used until Shell was fired in 95.

By today’s standards, that offense is archaeic (even in the 90’s Tim Brown admitted that he and Jeff Hostetler used to call their own plays in the huddle b/c the scheme stunk) – so the patterns may be the same, but there is no disguise to the plays, very few formations, motion, or multiple WR sets, and almost no short or intermediate routes so the D can just tee off on the QB. It’s incredibly predictable by today’s standards. My Dad and I used to be able to call out the plays in the 90’s (run or pass) with 90% accuracy.

The comparison between DC running Kiffin’s offense and McClown that I was making was pretty basic – I wasn’t getting overly technical like I normally do – the point was DC looked like a deer in headlights much like Walter did under Shell. McClown may have missed throws because he isn’t talented, but throws were there to be made because he had the system and timing down. He got rid of the ball on time for the most part (under 3 seconds), took off and ran if had nothing, threw the ball away when he had to, and made some decent audibles every now and again. He also got the team to the line of scrimmage in a timely fashion. DC made a couple of throws, but he generally looked terrible and was late with everything. He was late to the line, fumbled all the time even without contact, made dumb plays (witness him taking two sacks at the one yard line against San Diego to cost us a shot at the game in SD).

Basically, when he was in there, the offense looked more like the vanilla 1970’s joke we ran in 2006 than a west coast offense based on timing and rythm. When the Clown was in there, you could tell we had a modern offense being run by a backup caliber (at best) QB. When DC was in there, we looked more like the 1976 Bucaneers where you couldn’t even tell there was a scheme – sure, there were 11 guys on the field, but after the ball was snapped it was pure chaos.

A good analogy was Donald Hollis and Rich Gannon. When Gannon (a great QB) was in there, our offense kicked as*, but when he went down, the players were doing the same things, but Hollis (a terrible QB) couldn’t make the plays. It was easy to blame McCown last year when he was in there b/c he did everything right, he just didn’t have the talent to make plays. It wasmore difficult to blame DC because he was running around like a chicken with his head cut off – was it the o-line not blocking? The WR’s not getting open? The play calling? You could never put your finger on it. With the Clown, it was easier – you could easily point out on each play whether it was him, the blocking, or the WR.

The only game Culpepper looked good was Miami, and he only made 5 of 12 throws for 75 yards with the three bootlegs for TD’s. His best pass of the season was hitting Jerry Porter in that game between the safety and and QB who were playing Cover 2 – if the safety was decent it would have been a pick because DC was late getting the ball there. Anyway having Tivo’d a few of the games and watching them during the offseason and watching each one at least 3 times last year and making notes, that’s the conclustion I came to – McCown worked effectively within the scheme and Culpepper did not – had culpepper been able to improvise effectively, Kiffin would have let him do it, but there wasn’t enough talent on the team for DC to work with and long term, he’s not a guy that is a good west coast qb.

I guarantee you if you look at the other 31 teams there are at least 30 guys in that situation in training camps all across the NFL. So why slant it like our organization mishandled this kids career lets face it 50% of the league is vying for a roster spot right now!

A good example would be a Heisman Trophy winning QB that was drafted by the Ravens and then they brought in Steve McNair. Why not do a similar article on Troy Smith and how the Ravens have screwed him over?

I am just tired of the constant bashing of our organization!

  187. La Milicia Negra Says:

I just watched Jon Stewart from yesterday, man that was a great, ‘moment of zen’….

  188. NoLuv4Hoes Says:

LMN you picking up madden 09?

  189. Johnny Rebel Says:

Walter had his chance to lead last year and sulked too much, per Kiffin.

  190. SilverNblack666 Says:

Funny how they put Farve on the front (thinking he was going to retire) of Madden this year to break the curse and look at what Farve is going through now.

    The curse lives on!!

  191. lefty 12 Says:

No-makes you wonder.they do all kinds of background checks on these guys.nobody could tell he had no desire and fire, that he was just a big oversized punching bag?it seems if you are looking at lineman you should see a mean streak, not someone who is fat and lazy.

  192. SilverNblack666 Says:

Henderson will be cut if he doesn’t pick it up real quick you feel Kiffin’s frustration with him when he talks about him.

  193. La Milicia Negra Says:

hmm, my soccerclub just sold our african striker Chris Katongo to a german club… weird, hope they bring in some other striker, we are almost without any attack, great players from wing, midfield and back, but no real striker… this worries me… well most of our goals is scored by midfielder and defenders anyway, but anyway it would be great to have that aspect of the game covered too..

oh well we advanced further in the Uefa Cup yesterday and we are #1 in the National League..

  194. Johnny Rebel Says:

Just prey they don’t put JR on the front of Madden next year or the Raiders on the front of sports illustrated if they make the playoffs this year.

  195. NoLuv4Hoes Says:

two things to talk about is not being able to stop the run and not being able to give russell enough time to pass the ball. those two things will decide if we are in the playoffs this year or drafting top ten next year.

  196. La Milicia Negra Says:

sold him for about 3m dollars… thats okay =)

  197. La Milicia Negra Says:

    NL4H..

yeah I was considering it… but that means I should by me a new Xbox or a PS3, and I haven’t decided yet what Consol to use… I’m very fond of my old, XBOX wich I modded with a chip…

    Its a tough choice =)

  198. Johnny Rebel Says:

I don’t think we will be see anymore top ten drafts for a while.

  199. KoolKell Says:

    Hello Youngsters,

How do you donk hatin true Raider fans feel about the Raiders adopting Bronco football?

The Lane Kiffin regime has had its own challenges. Walter, 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, is a classic dropback passer drafted in 2005 who fit then-coach Norv Turner’s system. Kiffin wanted a zone-blocking running scheme, which works best with the use of bootlegs and rollouts, similar to the Denver Broncos

  200. Johnny Rebel Says:

I think its great to beat Mike at his own game, shows you Davis has given kid Kiffin more control than most would think.

  201. RaiderNation75 Says:

    NoLuv4Hoes,

You are correct with that statement! O-Line and D-Line. They are going to make or break us this year.

  202. Johnny Rebel Says:

Besides Shanny is 5-2 versus Bill B. winning 5 of the last 6.

  203. NoLuv4Hoes Says:

LMN i here that the xbox360 crap out easy and it is due to overheating. so if you are playing for a while you have to shut it down to avoid frying the circuit board. plus with a ps3 you get a blue dvd player, that is what sold me on getting a ps3.

  204. Johnny Rebel Says:

They fixed the xbox overheating issues with the newer models.

  205. Johnny Rebel Says:

I will get a wii first, then one of the others.

  206. Terrapin Says:

COW – We have a different prelimary assessemnt of the WRs based on reports. JLH has been good but inconsistent. Shields has bee pretty good too but had his bad days. Holland has looked good to but recently have a terrible day. Based on my interpretation of what has been written insofar, I’ll have to continue to rant this lineup: Carter, Walker, Curry, Watkins, JLHs, Shields.

I put JLH in there based on his apparent work ethic and punt return duties; but at this point in his career he is on the fringes.

And we’re not as stuck with Walker as you mention. As I remember there’s an option to go forward or dump his contract after this season or next. So if he doesn’t look sharp he’s outta here. Al isn’t that stupid he has the option to ditch him. Aslo it buys time to find another WR if Walker doesn’t pan out – he could serve as a bridge to the next best thing.

  207. lefty 12 Says:

    et tu-KK

  208. JediRaider Says:

Lefty and LMN – yeah, I didn’t even get into his attitude of entitlement – at first I kind of liked the fact that he represents himself as a sports agent, but after his “me first” antics pointing at his knee in miami through his mysterious injury running a 40 against some teamates and not trying to get back on the field very hard (even kiffin was miffed about that one) he may not be a bad guy, but he certainly isn’t a leader.

I think we got the total package with Jamarcus – I met one of his back up QB’s from LSU last week through a friend and he had nothing but nice things to say about him (very personable and extremely humble) and said what we already know at this point from scouting and practice reports – he make throws that simply amaze you.

His work ethic over the offseason was outstanding by any measure, and as opposed to DC, his quotes are always about personal improvement, leading by example, earning respect, and even taking on the burden of the welfare of his teamates through his performance on the field. That’s a leader right there, and with his talent and dedication to the game, a really good draft pick at #1 overall. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t turn out to be at least a solid starter in this league for years to come, and greatness should be in his future as we finish the rebuilding process around him over the next year or two. Also, he has never been in trouble for any reason that I can recall and I doubt you’ll catch him wearing a pink polo and grabbing some dudes junk: http://withleather.uproxx.com/post.phtml?pk=2774

The one thing about JR that concerns people is his one year wonder status and the fact that he came out as a Junior, usually not good for a QB – but this is a guy that has been on the NFL radar since he was 12 or 13 – he attended Payton/Archie Manning’s QB camp as a high school QB and has shown singular determination to be an elite NFL QB for as long as anyone has known.

As far as his learning curve is concerned, I think we saw tremendous improvement just from the JAX game to the SD game, both stellar defenses in the NFL. Had Sims not blown the sack in the endzone that SD recovered for a touch down, and JR not thrown that freak INT on the screen pass on the first series, I think we would have won that game because we could have stuck with the run longer and maintained a more balanced attack – that makes JR’s performance all the more impressive, and the frozen 40 yard rope he threw to Jerry Porter shows you everything you need to know about him. On the play nothing was open, he moved in the pocket to buy more time (showing patience and awareness), kept his eyes downfield (more awareness and if you look at his youtube highlights, you can see that this is his trademark, not a fluke), and unleashed a throw between two defenders to a spot where Jerry would be open (anticipation, arm strength, and deep accuracy) and threw it low to keep it away from defenders (intelligence).

I’m sure there will be bumps in the road, but McFadden and our imporoved run D will smooth those out by taking some pressure off him via play action, a strong running game, and the D’s ability to keep it close. Once this offense clicks and puts up points, it’s going to be an exponentially increasing slaughter as teams throw more and our secondary makes plays. Wilson is going to hide in the brush like a tiger waiting to pounce and murder WR’s, Huff will finally be able to use his speed and insticts to pick the ball off from FS, and Aso and Hall form the ultimate pick your poison tandem in the NFL. It’s going to be fun to watch – “pillaging just fun” will be back in the Raider Nation very soon.

  209. NoLuv4Hoes Says:

    bluray*

  210. Johnny Rebel Says:

JR is struggling with the deep route timing is all, his short stuff is fairly consistant.

  211. FIRE KIFFIN Says:

Jedi – I find it interesting that you say you haven’t heard anything negative about Kiffin as a NFL head coach.

    Okay, I’ll play along.

What kind of offense do I prefer? I have no problem with the west coast offense. Kiffin didn’t invent it.

What I don’t like about Kiffin: Game management, personel decisions, and loyalty issues.

    Overall, he is not worthy.

Al had no choice to hire kid Kiffin because no one else wanted the job. See Sarkisian. Al gave this ingrate the opportunity of a lifetime, and in my opinion, he failed.

That was then, this is now. Things have changed. If Kiffin doesn’t turn it around-THIS year, plenty of qualified NFL head coaches will jump at the chance to coach the talented Russell, McFadden, and the rest of the young talent Al has asembled.

By the way, I wasn’t rude tou you. That was a clone. I have total respect for the Jedi. I would prefer you coach the Raiders next year.

    Just Win Baby.

  212. SilverNblack666 Says:

Actually Bobb McKittrick and the 49ers used cut blocking before Shanahan so technically we are not adopting Bronco style.

  213. Terrapin Says:

If the decision is between Holland and Shields I think they’re going to go with Shields is what I’m saying. Holland may have looked better at WR than JLH and I stress the word MAY but JLH edges him b/c of STs. Measuring Holland vs Shields …I remember reading many more good days than bad for Shields …not as much written of Holland except an exceptional catch here and there.

Holland should do better than Shields since he’s been in the league longer. But thats where you have to use judgement and project forward for the player you want.

  214. RaiderNation75 Says:

  215. La Milicia Negra Says:

    NL4H…

yeah I’ve heard that too, but they made a new one version, or newer… Furthermore the PS3 cost about 200 dollars more.. a PS3 cost about 600 dollars

  216. SilverNblack666 Says:

    Nice post Jedi!

Fire Kiffin I think you will be here for years to come asking for the Coaches head. There was no letter of resignation the media lied and after this season Kiffin will get an extension and big money contract.

  217. K-Rock Says:

I have DirecTV. Channel 696 is CSNB (Comcast SportsNet Bay Area)

I’ve got International Fight League listed on my guide from 6-7.

Even if you guys are 2 hours behind me, from 8-9 is The Baseball Report and G-Mag (WTF?!!!)

I don’t see Raiders Report listed. What gives?

  218. Johnny Rebel Says:

Fire Kiffin, first of all Jim Fassel would jump at the chance to coach in Oakland along with a list of others including one already in Oakland ,J. Lofton, so your assumption nobody wanted the job but Kiffin is b.s. His game management was good enough to almost upset Indy and he did beat Shanahan in their second meeting, something that took Gruden 3 years to do so that is a b.s. statement too. JR was a highschool standout in Alabama so that assumption is b.s. Too many holes, too many holes, why do you post at all?

  219. Johnny Rebel Says:

And its not the west coast offense, its Shanarats scheme and we will beat him with it again opening night.

  220. KoolKell Says:

    Fire Kiffin,

You have a point that the Raider Head Coaching job should marginally more attractive with JaMarcus & McFadden. Kiffin sure better win.

  221. Oakglenn Says:

KK, who cares as long as the result is wins. No doubt the mobile offense is certainly a page out of the Walsh/shanarat/ playbook. Can’t deny that. I like it actually, I think having a guy who can run around and make things happen after a play breaks down, or not just sit back there like a marble statue is an extreme asset to an offense.

  222. Oakglenn Says:

Isn’t Fire Kiffin just MR wearing a fire kiffin T-shirt?????

  223. Johnny Rebel Says:

Having a guy able to hit the open receiver 50 yards downfield, in stride, while scambling, is a major improvement.

    NICE.

Russell is going to do some amazing things for us, this season. He also will make some boneheaded plays, from lack of experience, that will assuredly cause our blood pressure to climb to a very high level.

THE biggest concern, will remain the O-line. And whether or not, they can provide enough time for Russell, to do his job. Not getting him killed in the process.

We will not know the answer to that, until the games are played for keeps.

    Keeping, my fingers crossed.

    In Cable we, must trust.

  251. Johnny Rebel Says:

  252. 909raiderlifer Says:

And btw, that 40yd. lazer he threw to Pouter, last year. Was my personel highlight, of that frustrating season.

  254. NoLuv4Hoes Says:

  255. JediRaider Says:

FIRE KIFFIN – No prob – I didn’t take anything as rude- I obviously heard the Kiffin to Arkansas rumors and you’re dead on correct about the Sarkisian deal and Al not being able to find anyone – The second part isn’t Kiffin’s fault – I’d take 2 mil a year to be a head coach (I’ll do it for minimum wage :) ). The first part with Kiffin being an ingrate basically comes down to a chicken and egg deal – did Davis piss off Kiffin or did Kiffin piss off Davis first? Perhaps Kiffin had designs from the outset on just taking this job to boost his resume and as soon as he could get another Head Coaching job. I don’t know anything for a fact other than the fact that other people turned Al down and Kiffin didn’t. In my opinion, this comes down to Al because he’s the Owner, GM, and apparently the “Head Head Coach”. So who knows for sure what happened, but that’s the business side of football and Kiffin has at least been publicly respectful about it so I can’t fault him for any of that.

As far as the system is concerned, we don’t disagree over the West Coast system and I don’t have any particular preference as long as it’s not Shell’s 1970’s joke. Kiffin noted that it will be a hybrid and he’s looking to make it an explosive offense, so I imagine we will be going vertical enough to keep the D honest and make some plays (and Kiffin I thought did a good job with what are line was able to do last year).

Game management, personnel decisions, and loyalty are too general (except for the Arkansas deal/offseason rumors which I already talked about). From my perspective, I thought Kiffin dumped guys that needed to be dumped and nothing has come back to bite us in the butt, his coaching staff is top notch (except for Coe, who wasn’t Kiffin’s first choice and who he let go anyway, but Al brining in Lofton helps us out a lot imo).

The only game management issues I can recall is Kiffin sticking with the run too long when we were behind, but as he stated and as we witnessed, that was due to our poor o line blocking (especially Sims) – too often when teams knew we had to throw we got killed by sacks and holding penalties. Basically, Kiffin came in and stated his approach was going to be to run the ball and use his D to keep games close. That worked well enough against the average and bad teams we played, and could our QB have made a play or two, or our D stopped someone when it counted, or our K made a couple more FG’s, we would turned in an 8-8 season. I strongly feel that Kiffin did the best he could with what he had to work with and even though we won 4 instead of 8 games, the team was competitive except for a few games.

The main problem with Kiffin’s approach last year was that he depended on the D which couldn’t stop the run. Because our D was out there so long, the opposing D had time to rest which didn’t allow us to wear teams down in the run game, or give us enough offensive series to get in a rythm. Thrown in DC and the Clown, no speed at WR, and Kiffin did a pretty remarkable job.

Moving forward, you are probably right that Al will only give Kiffin this year to prove himself and if not, I can see Lofton, Ryan, Hackett, or maybe Knapp get promoted (since Knapp will likely be gone otherwise to reunite with Jim Mora, Jr. who will take over for Holmgren next year in Seattle). I’m sure Al expects 10-12 wins this season, but may settle for 8-8 or better if Kiffin only has to point to one or two more areas of need. Anything less than that and Kiffin will be gone for sure, and I’m sure year three of this deal is at Davis’ discretion anyway, so money won’t be a concern.

Personally, barring serious injury and if the D gives up 20 points per game on average or less (middle of the pack, last year we gave up 24), I expect 10 wins from this team, even with a first year QB because we averaged 17 points last year in the first year of the system and we have much more talent on offense this year that should translate into 5 more points per game. I get 5 more points per game from McFadden’s 10 TD’s this year (4.3 more points per game) and overall improved field position that should put us in the red zone more frequently for field goals). I think that is more than reasonable and pretty conservative because the rest of the team should improve their numbers as well.

We have an easy schedule with 13 very winnable games, and 14 if you assume a split with SD, which I do.

But thats the part that does not make sense because most folks don’t pre-rent cars before they arrive at a location. It could have been someone mad at Bob on the west coast for all we know or maybe Bob liked to take a toot once in a while.

    Thec -
I’d only be intrested in those guys if they are goingn to improvbe our team. I keep hearing Henry mentioned and he is the obvious example of fans salivating over an average guy who has bounced around and just has a familliar name. Is he really any sort of upgrade? His drawbacks far outweigh his mediocre skills. Shoot, Jordan had a better upside when we signed him. I’d be inclined to stick with good team guys and young guys who can grow with JR rather than some misfit who’ll have to be replaced by the time JR is up to speed.

Terrapin – Not sure where you’ve been reading good things about Sheilds. On here, David White’s takes and Cockran’s reports it has been all Watkins followed by JLH and a little Holland. I literally have read a poor OTA for Sheilds followed by dropped pass reports etc. Did read he caught 1 TD a few days ago.

I don’t particularly care about Sheilds, Watkins, Holland or JLH. My assessment is based solely on reports. After a game we’ll see two things – Who gets reps, and who does something with those reps. If Sheilds steps up good. Until then I’ve ben around too long to get ga-ga over a late round WR with 2 weeks in the NFL. Walker, Curry, Carter, JLH (especially as a PR guy) seem locks. There is no denying Watkins is having the best camp so far. That may end up being the 5. IF THEY GO WITH 6 – Holland seems in the lead. Could change of course.

Of course the #6 WR will be inactive most of the season barring injuries.

  270. Johnny Rebel Says:

Something Jerry does not discuss much is how are the receivers blocking in the run game?

  271. lefty 12 Says:

plus it seems every time you turn around Shields has some nagging injury.that doesn’t sit well with Kiffin,i’m sure.Reb-that’s ok.we are both Raider fans.it just seems we sometimes remember the past a little differently-no big deal-it was the 60s and 70s after all.

  272. Einstein Says:

Shields and Schilens will be practice squad fodder.

  275. Coach on Wheels Says:

When Kiffin was hired versus now

(Al said Kiffin was brought in in large part to evaluate talent so take it for what you will)

    Coaching -
    Walsh / Slater etc… (Grade F-)
    Gnapp / Cable (B)
    QB -
    Brooks / Walter (D)
    JR / Walter (B)
    HB -
    Jordan / Fargas (C)
    Fargas / DMAC / Bush (A)
    FB
    Crockett (D+)
    Griffoth / ONeal (B+)
    TE
    Anderson )D)
    Miller (A)
    OT
    Gallery / McQ (D)
    Harris / Green (C)
    OG
    Sims / Booth (B-)
    Gallery / Carlisle (A-)
    C
    Grove (D)
    Grove (C+) (Improved)
    WR
    Moss / Whitten (F)
    Walker / Curry (C+)
Kiffin inherited one of the worst offenses in NFL history (5th worst if I recall) and in two years has built a competitive young squad. Top 12 last year. If the D joins us in this century and does anything we should see good things.

  276. lefty 12 Says:

Reb-that’s one of the main reasons it’s so hard for us to gage the progress of WRs.some guy might be making great catches but can’t block his mother.in the NFL and it seems especially under Kiffin,if a WR can’t block he is in trouble.

  277. VoldemortSupporter Says:

post # 270, Jonny Rebel, something Jerry doesn’t discuss often is the run game, period..

  278. Coach on Wheels Says:

In the practice Kelly participated in the offense scored at will in short yardage match-ups on running plays. That’s an on-going cause for concern.

    Hope that helps KK.

  279. El Dirty Says:

    COW

Thank you for that… It takes people to see the facts in order for them to understand what he has done.

  280. Coach on Wheels Says:

    Jerry wrote

    – During a third-and-short drill midfield, the offense converted four of seven opportunities. The wins came on an inside run by Michael Bush, a pitch to the left to Darren McFadden, a pass from Russell to Oren O’Neal and an inside run by McFadden.

Fargas, McFadden, Fargas TD’s in the goalline drill.

Jerry’s reporting the run game is fine and the run D well…

  281. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Cow…

you were very generous with you ‘06 grades..

Crocket was F- in ‘06 and D- in ‘05… he was very slow to getting to the line and without real power to pass the line on blocks…

but, maan was he good prior to the ‘04 season… he simply got too old and worn down

  282. Einstein Says:

    Great post COW. moooooooooo

  283. Coach on Wheels Says:

LOL – I was trying to be nice to Crockett because after playing with Gannon / Brown / Rice etc… 06 must’ve been pure Dante’s Inferno for the guy.

  284. 408RAIDER Says:

what time is the fix gonna come in??? Like 5 something rite?

  285. La Milicia Negra Says:

    LOL… yeah :P

  286. Terrapin Says:

Damn I forgot how bad Crockett was. At one point he was money short yardage but his blocking was the worst. Boy I remember last preseason now when he went up against Griffith and O’Neal. Crockett was just terrible blocking – whiffing all over the place. Not what you want in a FB.

Actually I’ll upgrade O’Neal n Griffith to a solid A when you compare them to the rest of the league. Not many full backs can block as dominantely and efficiently and catch the rock, and get some YAC.

  287. Coach on Wheels Says:

See ya all later – gotta go. I week to the preseason games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My udders are aching!

  293. VoldemortSupporter Says:

    I cant wait.

  294. Huff24 Says:

Kind of strange that Barry Sims will be facing the Raiders in practice and Kwame Harris will be facing the 49ers. I wonder what those 2 think about the practices?

  295. La Milicia Negra Says:

Griffith is A+ in my book, he is really fast which is important when your job is to race ahead of guys like McFadden, furthermore he has fantastic hands something I love in FB’s and lastly he can block…

O’neal is A- in my book. he isn’t as fast as Griffith, nor has he hands like him, I think his hands is as bad as Fargas’, but woaw, than that boy block. Mr Pain isn’t pop-nick, he deserves that one, in one preseason game (i think) it was evident that a LB just stopped running because he could see O’neal was coming ahead, and he had already tried that once, and didn’t want to try it again… thats fear and respect something opposing D’s haven’t had for a long time..

The Reason why I hold Griffith in higher regard, is that he comes from a winning organization, and has that Leader character without being the center… thats really important among a young team and a team under re-building…

  296. Quagmire'd Says:

    Huff, it don’t even matter

  297. La Milicia Negra Says:

muhahaha i was thinking about Utters LOL

  298. OaklandRaider4Life Says:

I think AW was probably the best QB on our roster last year not named Russell. But behind our pathetic pass protection, you would have seen a lot of what you saw the year before: Sacks, sacks, and some more sacks. McCown, who has the arm of a ten year old girl, was still a better fit in kiffin’s game plan that included a lot rollouts and ability to make short throws by moving around and getting away from pressure. Andrew’s future with the team is all but done, i wish him the best wherever he goes in the offseason.

  306. NoLuv4Hoes Says:

  307. La Milicia Negra Says:

I can’t remeber what year, but one year when Atlantas DVD was going smoothly (dunn-vick-duckett) one of the RB went down and Griffth just took his share, when the years was over Griffiths avg was much better than the one he replaced… and have I mention his hands?

PS: There are many others in this blog who post good thoughts and opinions as well. Great that MR isn’t around. Hopefully, Jerry won’t take too long in posting the afternoon details of practice. May it all be positive.

  314. Terrapin Says:

I don’t want to get into predictions but we are liable to sweep both the Donkeys and the Queefs this year. Remember, its been noted that Kiffin performs much better against repeat opponents. We beat the Chiefs last year in Arrowhead and dominated the Donkeys the second go around. It’ll be a dream to dominate them again opening night. I think Kiffin’s got their numbers.

  315. Raiderbaitor Says:

Andrew Walter to the Packers for Brett Favre!

  316. Lowdown in Beijing Says:

How does McQ end up a back up on the left side and Green starts?

    Stop the insanity train…

Law Firm of Morrison, Howard and Brown.

And lastly, am I correct in reading that when the O goes up against the D that each side is engaging in “Limited Full Contact” ??

    (J. Cooper notwithstanding…)

  317. Thec Says:

I am of the opinion we sweep the cooks, and the bonkoles. We go 3-0 into the hole vs lite and the dischargers we could pull off what the world is calling improbable. we were 2 plays from beating them last year. 2 plays….

  318. Raiderbaitor Says:

Andrew Walter should have retired at the end of last season. Then he could have filed for re-instatement last week, demanding the starting QB job or a trade or he would come to camp and be a total distraction.

  319. Riverside Raiders Fan Says:

    Mistabrown:

You made a good observation concerning Kiffin involvement with our defense. I didn’t see any responses, so I’ll mention what you said again. You basically asked if Kiffin was adding his ideas to the mix on defense by experimenting with Burgess at different sets and locations to create mis-matches? Or, was this experimenting coming from Rob Ryan? I tend to think that it’s coming from Kiffin and not RR. I haven’t seen anything from RR in the years he coached for us, other than a bad haircut and a scrubby beard.

  320. 909raiderlifer Says:

    408….
    Try this..

    1 1/2 oz. Bourbon.
    1/2 tsp. honey.
A good squeez of lemon juice.

Microwave for 20 sec. make sure it is NOT to hot.

    Consume.
    Repeat as necessary.

Fail safe remedy, for what is ailing you.

  321. Ryan Says:

Just don’t squeeze the lemon until the juice runs down your leg.

  322. Huff24 Says:

Shanahan is fooling himself if he thinks hes making it to the playoffs. He has very little talent on that team. What they do have is consistency over the years when it comes to coaching and schemes but that is finally failing them now and too many poor decisions have corrupted the good of the team and the talent has been laid to waste. Shanahan has lost control and guarenteeing the playoffs is just another sign of desperation to appease the owner thats really to pull the plug. The scary thing is…The owner could have the options of someone like Bill Cowher or Bill Billick next year.

  323. La Milicia Negra Says:

    RRF…

well I disagree, we all know RR was hired to be a 3-4 DC, but we quickly found out that our highest paid player didn’t fare well in that system… I think this is RR’s way to ease us over to be a 3-4 D and not a 4-3 D… And I think thats is something Kiffin and RR both agreed upon this season knowing Sapp wouldn’t be here and that it is RR last season…

  324. Dakota Says:

    …or Lane Kiffin.

  325. 909raiderlifer Says:

Got 2 go, have a GREAT weekend everyone.

    408, get feeling better bro.

  326. Raiderbaitor Says:

The Raider’s receiver woes just might be solved. BMW (Big Mike Williams) was cut by the Titans yesterday and is available. Didn’t he play for Kiffin at USC? Maybe Kiff will give him a chance to make the Raiders. What?….. Oh!…… Nevermind!!!

    CHARGERS THINKING TEXAS?
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 1, 2008, 9:06 a.m.
A story on the San Diego Chargers’ official web site notes that Texas Governor Rick Perry was the special guest of Chargers President Dean Spanos at training camp practice on Wednesday morning.

Was this just a matter of Perry stopping by a training camp while on vacation? Or, as Christy Hoppe of the Dallas Morning News writes, could Perry be selling San Antonio as a place for the Chargers to move?

San Antonio has a stadium in place already, a stadium that has hosted regular-season NFL games when the Saints had to relocate after Hurricane Katrina. The Chargers, meanwhile, want to find a nicer home than Qualcomm Stadium but haven’t been able to work a deal for a new stadium in the area.

We’re not saying a Chargers move to San Antonio is close to happening, but we do think Perry and Spanos were talking about more than just whether Perry should draft LaDainian Tomlinson in the U.S. governors’ fantasy football league.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This would be great. Only thing better would be the Raiders moving to San Antonio.

At least this way, I could go to a Raiders game every season.

    WASHINGTON SUSPENDED FOR ONE GAME
Posted by Mike Florio on August 1, 2008, 4:27 p.m.
Cornerback Fabian Washington has been suspended for the first game of the 2008 season, due to a violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.

“We had knowledge of Fabian’s situation prior to the trade we made for him,” G.M. Ozzie Newsome said in a release. “Based on the NFL’s personal conduct policy, and Fabian’s agreement with the authorities, we knew that a suspension was a possibility. Fabian knows his actions were a mistake and has taken appropriate actions since then.”

Said Washington: “I put myself in a bad situation, and I did not handle it the right way. I was wrong and made a mistake. My girlfriend, my attorney and I wanted a quick resolution and knew that a suspension could happen.”

The suspension will take effect on August 30. He’ll miss practice prior to the Week One game against the Bengals, and he’ll be permitted to return to the team on September 8.

Washington was arrested in February for domestic battery, but avoided prosecution via a 26-week intervention program. He was traded by the Raiders to the Ravens in April.

As a reader recently point out, the message of the past week, given the lack of any penalty imposed on Bills running back Marshawn Lynch, is this: Don’t hit a woman, unless you do it with your car.

  335. Dakota Says:

    K-rock,

Raider’s backup QB’s: Tui, Andrew, Jeff Otis. I guess you could say the Raider’s season hinges on Jamarcus staying healthy.
If JR should get injured, Tui will find a way to get hurt in his very first game, and Walter will replace him and get sacked six times in about a quarter, leaving him irreversibly shell-shocked. Jeff Otis will finish the season for the 4-12 Raiders.
The Raiders will receive the first pick of the 2009 draft and will select Jason “Speedy” Rockett, the National 440 Champion who played one season at wide receiver for Southwest Louisiana Tech. Al Davis will comment: This kid can really fly!

  394. SilverNblack666 Says:

What about BHP that guy usually has something cool to write about, I like reading his posts more than Jerry’s.

  395. SilverNblack666 Says:

if practice ends at 5 today then we should have something soon I would think.

  396. RaiderMight Says:

Did the team have today off? It’s 6pm and still no update. I thought the only day off was Sunday?

    Just curious. :)

  397. Marv Hubbard Rules Says:

What I remember most about the Raiders original glory days (67 – 77) was not the passing game (Lamonica / Blanda / Stabler to Bilitnekoff / Wells / Branch / Casper) but the running game ( Hewritt Dixon – Charlie Smith, Marv Hubbard – Clarence Davis, Mark Van Eeghan – Clarence Davis).

Whatever the Raiders did via the air was setup by the run. With Upshaw, Shell, Otto / Dalby, Vella and Buehler (with a little bit of Bob Brown thrown in) paving the way, you almost felt that if they wanted to, the Raiders could drive down the field via the ground game any time they wanted to. It was something to behold to see the offensive linemen impose their will on the opposing team’s defensive line and see the defensive line’s shoulder pads rising up and down as they tried to suck in enough air to withstand another onslaught.

Part of the reason that Stabler seemed to have all day to find the open receiver (besides having three HOF blockers in front of him) was that the opposing team could not afford to pin their ears back and rush the passer. They would get eaten alive by the ground attack.

Where I am going with this is this: Our passing game does not have to be spectacular to be spectacular. If Jamarcus / Walker / Curry / Miller are merely competent, they will appear to be good if not great. If our running game pounds out the yards, if the threat of McFadden breaking one loose at any time is there, if we can move the chains consistently via the ground, we will not have to worry about turnstiles at the tackle positions. Russell will have the time.

Pride and Poise – Return to Glory – It is our birthright!

  398. Ryan Says:

Raiders Report at 6:30. I can barely stand it. It has been great reading Jerry’s posts, but I haven’t seen any live stuff yet this year.

  399. KoolKell Says:

    In too Deep, So true.

  400. K-Rock Says:

I am looking at Comcast Bay Area and the SF Giants report is on.

When is the Raiders report and what channel?

  401. KoolKell Says:

Marv Hubbard, I remember the same thing, Upshaw and Shell weren’t cut blockers though.

Didn’t Marv Hubbard come in with that famous class of 68′ ?

I remember seeing him in that 68 rookie game against Dallas and their rookie Roger Staubugh at the Coliseum. Eldridge Dickey played the first half for the Raiders, and in the second half Stabler & Hubbard made their marks. Yeah baby.

  402. Ryan Says:

Direct TV channel 698. Comcast Sports West

  403. KoolKell Says:
