So much for all seeing empty seats
October 16th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
err….Al (not all)
October 16th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
If Al would at least hire a Coach who shares his football philosophies, they could be on the same page, and draft accordingly.
But nooooo. He hires WCO guys, which he can’t stand and undermines them at every turn.
He’s been partially convinced that Raider Football is outdated and won’t work anymore.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
wow. sellouts? i wonder why Mcafee pulled out? seems like we’re selling more tix despite the continual losing streak. I guess everybody wants to take their kids when the circus comes to town, eh?
October 16th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
RaiderRockstar,
My problem is taking flyers on these guys with busted up knees etc….Draft Shields in the 6th round. There are still players available without the injury history.
Also, why did the Raiders IR Shields. They should have PUP’d him. Shields was practicing at the end of camp. PUP him and then cut Watkins now. Watkins clearly isn’t any good having not been activated to this point and playing behind this receiver line up
October 16th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Raiders have the best fan support in the NFL. Still selling out games despite all the off the field drama and poor win/loss record.
The players and coaches have to get it together for this one. A loud stadium full of rabid fans. The defense has to start doing something with all that energy
October 16th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
I guess I’m not the only idiot out there going to this debacle. It will all be worth it, if I can see McFadden running the Wildcat or Higgins and Schilens starting.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
You can thank JaMarcus Russell & Darren McFadden for the sellout.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
S&B
good points.. i agree
when was the last time the Raiders drafted a WR in the upper rounds? Jerry Porter in round 2 ?
October 16th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
HD37 This was for the other thread.
Thanks for sticking around here at ROR. You always bring intelligence to the blog with insight thrown in for good measure.
I am almost in favor of trading down. It seems the worse team can be saddled with unintended consequences that hinder rather then help it. System needs a change.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
RaiderRockstar,
I think so with Jerry Porter. The 2nd round is the best round to find good players. Look, we landed Miller in the 2nd round. If I were the Raiders this year, I would trade that 1st round pick for an extra 2 and an extra 3rd unless this Crabtree guy is available.
And even then I am wary of drafting Crabtree. Let’s grab a receiver in the 2nd round. It worked for Pittsburgh with that Linus guy out of texas.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I’m flying all the way down from Seattle to witness this impersonation of an NFL franchise. I’m praying Farve is his erratic, gunslinging self and the Raiders can make a game of it.
How is the Jet run D?
October 16th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
and Eddie Royal and Desean Jackson were 2nd round picks last year
October 16th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
I am all for accumulating picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Plus you are not paying a ton of money up front either.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
we couldn’t pup shields because he practiced in camp
October 16th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Well, with a healthy Darren Mcfadden things have the potential to get interesting. Gives the Jets something to think about in game planning.

=======================================================
Then the Raiders should have put him on the regular roster and cut that Watkins guy or cut Williams at linebacker. We need “ALL HANDS ON DECK” at receiver and having a guy like Shields, who is supposed to have good numbers, out for the year is a waste!
October 16th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Yeah, DMAC at least has the potential to make the defense adjust. And JLH has rapidly become a game-changer. I’d have laughed hysterically if someone would have told me 6 months ago that JLH would be our most potent weapon this season. But that’s the truth, however hard to swallow.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Question for the Nation:
Do the Raiders try and get a T.J Houshmindzada or Chad Johnson in the offseason?
I am trying to figure out how we get Russell some immediate help at wide receiver but am nervous about free agents and their general record of performance in the silver & black.
If you say no, which I can agree with, then what can the Raiders do to get Russell some real help at wide receiver.

Sellout? You people are SUCKERS! haaahahahahaha
I may have to give Audrey Trask a raise and maybe a % of my Raider stocks.
She has been very good to me if you know what I mean! haaaaahahahahahahahahahahaha
October 16th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Also, the Raiders need to get back to basics against the Jets. Pound Fargas up the middle and use DMAC to take it outside. Also, put Fargas and DMAC in the backfield at the same time for a few plays. Playaction the hell out of them in that set too.
Start using the weapons that Al has paid for!

S&B #20,
Learn how to develop young players they draft.
We already had Randy Moss, and couldn’t figure out a way to use him, duh?
Consistency and learn how to develop your young players and be a professional football organization.
The organization has athropied as much as Mr Davis’ johnson.

Did u see shields when he played in the pre??? The guy looked bad, sloppy routes and drops galore. We haven’t given watkins a chance, the least we could do is that, he was catching everything in camp, something the rest of players can’t be accused of.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
We already run play action on EVERY pass! It has to fool them at some point right? haaaaahahahahahaha
October 16th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
See, told you! Everything is fine! All of these doom and gloom media reports.
“Kiffin and Al aren’t getting along”
“Kiffin is going to be fired”.
“Kiffin wasn’t wearing the team logo”.
Blah, blah, blah. We’re still selling out games! This is why we don’t ever believe the mediots, people.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
KK,
You are right about the sell out being all McFadden and Jamarcus.
I am hoping that McFadden being hurt is the reason he has not got the ball; I am just pissed that he has not gotten the ball at least 20 times a game. Maybe him being a rookie, they are taking things slow and not trying the kid overwhelmed, but I just know that this is the NFL, and when he took that money he became a man by the rest of the worlds standards: they need to take the diaper off and give the young man the ball.
I guess Javon just sucks because Knapp and Cable didn’t seem to want to get him the ball either.

Keep it up and expect a visit from the Kawacommie buster James Herrera!
October 16th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Had to go with chicken/rib platter @ the BBQ spot down the street…
October 16th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
As a long time fan, I know Al Davis is not fond of playing rookies. I don’t know why, that when Dmac does play, it’s only between the tackles.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
KoolKell,
Agreed, do we have the young players at receiver right now that have the potential to develop into a solid number 1 receiver? Maybe Shillens. It he is that guy, then he really should be starting now. How else is he going to develop chemistry with Russell and develop as a player overall
October 16th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Al Davis, what did you to do Oakglenn? Where is he?
October 16th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Herrera coming to see me, would be a dream come true. Oh my goodness.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I’d love a visit from Herrera. The same guy who was shaking and quivering and walking back and forth, pretending he was a tough guy with a nerdy media reporter? I’d knock Herrera the f out. Anytime.

Yeah, but he needs to work on getting better. KoolKell had a good point about the Raiders inability to develop young talent. Right now Shields can’t practice and is not getting better. he is sitting around. How much time is Schillens getting? Watkins doesn’t suit up.
We waste our time with Walker, Lelie and Curry.
Time to cut our losses at Wide Receiver and play the guys who have a chance to be with Russell for the long term

October 16th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
I just thought about something.
Doesn’t John Herrera personify what the Raiders football team is anymore? Just dons the silver and black, thinking people are supposed to be afraid of him, but obviously isn’t all that tough himself? Quivering and pacing while thinking he’s punking someone? That’s our football team.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
We need more creative playcalling, knapp isn’t known for putting wideouts in a position to make plays. Besides TO I can’t think of any star receiver that blossomed under him. Look at Roddy White, as soon as Knapp leaves he turns into a star. We need to shake things up, we have much more talent than Miami and Atlanta but their playcalling is better and puts their playmakers in a position to make plays.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
post 19 I’ve stated since 4-08 {haha 4-08 get it }that JLH IS OUR BEST WR.We all know how I feel about donkey swo I wont go there
October 16th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
everybody wants to see old man Favre in his last season. the legend. the HOF’er.
too bad he’s gonna get sacked and picked off. turnovers galore! he’s gonna consider retirement (again) after this game. the only players he’ll carry on his shoulder will be the injured ones!
Jets will get eaten alive by the Black Hole!
October 16th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Hilarious.

You do know that Ryne Ryan is still the head coach of the defense in Oakland and not in NY right?
Even I know we are going to get murdered this weekend. I really don’t care at this point, as long as you SUCKERS keep coming to the games! hahahahahahahaaaaaa

October 16th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
We have Zack Miller and our running backs. We can try putting a running back at the wideout. Can’t hurt. Because he can’t be worse than our players actually listed as wideouts.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
the way Russell has been playing,he is playing with WRs he’ll be with for the long term.i haven’t given up hope for him,but he is being groomed by the same team who has groomed Huff,Gallery,Washington, etc.

MaddoxRaider,
If Herrera can’t do the job, then I will send Marvin Taylor, or Audrey Trask, or Jeb Belitnikoff, or Jack Otto. Eventually you will get tired and one of my cronies will b1tch slap you!

October 16th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
If I’m not mistaken John Herrera joind the organization as a ticket sales guy. He’s not a football guy. But everybody else, who could get a job somewhere else did. Herrera and the PR guy Taylor are the only ones left.
They can’t get a job elsewhere, and are smooching Davis’s azz for all it’s worth.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Bring them on, Al.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
the al Davis defensive philosphy is good but can the philosphy be put in place under current salary cap restrictions. How can you pay for the Haynes- hayes combo ever again and have the highest paid safety and then the pass rushers.
Are the current defenses due to salary compliance or offensive proess?

Rod Raider…the Hayes Haynes connection? I’m sorry, are we in the year 1983? Hayes and Haynes were a great tandem in their day but with today’s rules and the complexities of today’s offenses, if they tried to play the bump and run today the way they did then they’d get torched, not to mentioned flagged repetitively.

I am talking to Paul Rozell about changing the rules regarding DB’s physical play against the WR’s. I think we finally see eye to eye on something, but I am still going to have Jimmy Herrera kill him some day.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
You have to mix man and zone today. You have to use deception and pressure. Too much of one or the other and your defense will get figured out…and picked apart.

October 16th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
mr,
People said the same about Atlanta, now Roddy White is in all likely hood headed to the pro bowl. Hell, even Michael Jenkins is making plays in the passing game.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Agreed, Ryan. We haven’t *really* sold out a game since 2002. And notice, between ‘00 and ‘02, we used to genuinely sell out games, even with the high ticket prices. Gee, winning football… What a concept!
October 16th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Severeraider, who said the same about Atlanta? White and Jenkins are not as bad as the jokes we have.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
The Jets game is sold out just like the Charger game was sold out—with 7500 empty, unsold seats. The Raiders claim sellouts even though you can buy tickets through Ticketmaster on the day of the game. These are BS sellouts in my opinion. Notice how many sellouts have been announced (claimed) since the Raiders took over ticket sales a few years back?
October 16th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
It’s funny, if anyone ever disclosed how much money Al has spent on leftover tickets in recent years. It’s probably enough to pay off the debt of a small country.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
well who gives a fuk? @ least I can see the game without being out $300..

MR I thought you could bump a wr within 5 yards, please correct me if I’m wrong =) LMN,nice list PANTERA FUKKIN ROCKS!!!
October 16th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
It’s not just the bump and run, it’s the overall style of play. Maybe the rules would permit most of what they did. But offenses today would not play right into their trap. Our ‘83 defense, as much as I love them, because they were great in their day, would be f’n clueless against a 4 WR set.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Mr
No, not now they aren’t. But before they were both considered busts. We need to get our receivers the ball period. Name a receiver from Miami, I can’t think of one besides Ginn jr. They have less talent at wr than we do and yet they find a way to get them the ball. Our play design is uninspired and basic. We need more imagination and creativity to cover up our talent deficiency at that spot.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Ohmanlee-who gives a sh!t,at least the locals get to watch the game.hell, the whiners haven’t sold out for years either, but they keep saying they do.there is plenty of other stuff to b!tch about besides fake sellouts!

October 16th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
At least the economic woes has put this season in perspective for me.
I will be looking for anything and everything to be positive about. If a single reception by J. Higgins is all I can take away from a game, so be it!
Another blast from the past:
Coolest pass:
It wasn’t pretty and I doubt it gained more than five yards, but the coolest pass I have seen as a Raider was a Jim Plunkett to Marcus Allen completion.
Plunkett had a defensive lineman tackling him from his left side (They were a lot slower to blow the whistle in those days). He reaches his right arm behind his back and flips the ball across his back to a stunned Marcus Allen. Pure Plunkett.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Regardless of all the drama, the fans still love the team. I was not going to go this weekend, but looks like I will end up going after all. Either that or lose the $120 for 2 season tix for this game.
Looks like it will be another packed house. All I ask for is to play all 4th quarters at a high level, if they can’t even do that, then atleast play the 3 and not get blown out like they did in New Orleans. lol
October 16th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Play Nnamdi at Wr.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
Severeraider, says who? you keep saying that “people say” white and Jenkins were busts. They weren’t given the chance. We have gotten the ball to our receivers. They just can’t catch it. And that’s been the case with Walker in recent years before he came here. Not to mention he’s a head case. You’re comparing apples to oranges. Atlant’s receivers were just unproven potential. Ours are PROVEN to suck.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Chaos, I rather see Hall play WR. lol He was used that way in college.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
I ruined Lane Kiffin’s life! hahahahahaha My work for 2008 is done!
October 16th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
2 days, 23 hours, 8 minutes, and 22 seconds left until the New York Jets visit the Oakland Raiders!
Just play, baby!
October 16th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
This whole idea of “Just pass, baby” is unreal. When will Raider fans ever learn? that’s what we did against the Saints. It went nowhere. And, their defense is not great. It’s about balance, and you have to build toward a balanced offense. That’s what Kiffin was trying to do. It’s not about just airing the ball out and maybe getting a cheap win for confidence. It would be one thing if we already were a winning team and used a high passing attack to catch a team off guard, a la 2002 vs. Pitt, but it’s not the answer for right now. We are RE BUILD ING. Well..we were, at least. That went out the window two weeks ago. Now, we’re just dreaming again, like fools. Airing it out, as every defense knows we will. As I said all along, as soon as Kiffin is fired, Defensive coordinators around the league will start calling Raider week “Vacation week” again.

I will ba happy if they show up this week vs. last week’s debacle.

Those are the three keys to winning football.
Team chemistry is overrated.
Leadership from the Head Coach is overrated.
Discipline is highly overrated.

Hey Florida Paul, where the hell did you go? You were right about firing that “Temp” Lance Kiffin! My new “Temp” is much better!
Wait until I unveil next year’s “Temp”, he will be exactly what the Raihduhs need to bring us back to greatness!

Speaking of Blanda, I remember a game in the early seventies against Cleveland. Blanda was attempting a field goal. The holder (Stabler?)fumbled the snap from center. Walter Johnson of the Browns comes barreling in. Who goes planting a block in his midsection but the 43 year old Blanda. (BTW, Johnson brushed him aside like he wasn’t there:)

Balance? Are you kidding me? Are you the karate kid or somethin? Balance is as overrated as discipline. We win by taking down the other team’s quataback and throwin da ball deep. It worked in the 60’s, it worked in the 70’s, it worked in the 80’s and it will work in the 90’s too! Just wait and see!
WE WILL WIN!

I had to do it over the phone because my quads really hurt that day. Give an old man a break will ya?
October 16th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Winning? WTF is that? I recall us winning back in SC baby. The move back to oaktown has killed a once proud organization.

The good thing about all this Raider debacle, is that attention is beginning to be focused on Al Davis, where it has belonged all along.
—————–
I agree. It’s one of the positives of all the crud that has been going on lately.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
screw Gannon.here’s a guy who was(is)admittedly a Raider hater.he’s like most of the guys who come here.he came here for the $.we were the only team to offer him top $ AND a chance to start.he signed and Gruden made him a star(before he tore him down and made him look like the 2nd rate QB he really was in the SB).now,he is back to his old self-Raider hater.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Yeah Al Davis, won’t be able anymore, to blame others for the failures of HIS team.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
I looked at your galleries and it looks like you use a point and shoot camera. Maybe disposables?
October 16th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
yes KK;we know we doin bad when a couple of old NATION bros are reminiscing about past
October 16th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
I love LA. I really f’d up when I left that town. I didn’t know that stupid b!tch was going to move the Rams and I would have the town to myself! They really cheated me out of LA, and someday I will return! Oakland smells like Jim Madden’s dirty underwear!
October 16th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

Dont hate on a hook up!
October 16th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
And, that’s why I think Al Davis WILL hire a football executive this off-season. He needs a scapegoat, or somebody to take the heat of losing off him.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Thats not a hook up Dirt. I am a photographer and I can tell you he has a 60-70 % markup on that price.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Don’t worry El Dirty, most inmates are Raihduh fans, so you should be safe. Just quickly allow yourself to be someone’s b1tch and they will protect you.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:31 pm

Scapegoat is the correct word… He will still call the shots.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:37 pm

I’ll be back in a minute
October 16th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Yeah, he’ll stand somebody up front to sheild his egomaniacial self.
I go back to 64′. I started at Frank Youell field, when Al Davis was the actual coach.
I could jaw all day about past glories, but you’ll notice, I rarely do. That was then, this is now. This organization and The Nation need to be about now. That’s where life is.

Koolkell,i was out of town when it happened, but did you buy the Bs al the scumbag put out about Kiffin at the press conf.,about how Kiffin was on board with all the FA signings and that Kiffin was an out an out liar.hate to bring up old topics, but i was just wondering.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
I love the false optimism in you guys.
It was funny how everyone thought we were going to whoop the aints too, and I asked what they would say if we lost.
I heard:

October 16th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
post 130 LMAO =)
October 16th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Lefty,
I thought that Presser was horrible. That letter put on screen by Al Davis, bringing JaMarcus Russell, Javon Walker and D Hall into his mess with Kiffin was bush league.
I think that letter was a pure fabrication for his grievence with Kiffin. But either way, it should have been kept private.
For Gawdsakes, don’t bring JaMarcus into that Bullsheit.

October 16th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Sunday we take a 17 pt lead into the 4th qtr, then Favre gets hot ,puts up 24,and we lose on their last poss.oakglenn will then reappear on here and blame the off playcalling.
_____________________________________________________
The only way this team could take a 17 point lead is to have the jets run the wrong direction after a catch, long snap over Farver’ers head, and then have Farver’erah run out the back of the endzone like the moron in Detroit did.
October 16th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Did yall hear bout al davis eyeing jim harbough maybe hiring as the head coach of the raiders?
October 16th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
KoolKell a “pre-fabracation” if you will
October 16th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
why can’t we just run a updated offense? We need to run the ball on some first downs. Throw the ball sometimes on first down, mix it up. We know our receivers aren’t that good ,so we need to put them in different formations and help them get open. Jon hot head gruden used to do this with all the receivers we had. We need to put fargas or bush in with Mcfadden and show them different looks. They need to run Mcfadden out side some of the damn time, to keep the defense honest. Why do we always run him inside, over and over and over for no damn gain. Don’t even get me started on the defense. Can we please run a standard 5 down linemen defense to stop the run and passing game(not a “f” ing 3 down linemen). Match the lb’s and the coners and safties up depending on what the offense is doing. Just doing some of this would help our damn team out……… Al please read this or have someone translate this for you. thanks!!!

I was kicking ass on Madden ‘09, on the pro level. Then went to all pro and our receivers are dropping the balls, like very time you throw to them. They say the all pro level is more realistic. They weren’t lying.
……………………………………………….
Try this set up Mr. I win all the time with it.
QB: Russell
RB: Fargas, Bush
FB: Zach Miller, Justin Griffith
WR: McFadden, Lelie, Walker, Shillens, Curry
TE: Troupe, Madsen
Use “PASS BALANCED” as your playbook. hehehe! …its not cheating, it’s vurtual coaching…

I don’t mean to come off as living in the past. In these long, dark dreary days of stock market slides, owner tirades, and blowout losses, I take solace in reminiscing about a brighter past. I am optimistic but also realistic. Like the economy, the Raiders have most likely not hit rock bottom. It doesn’t hurt to look to the past and say, ” remember when..?”
I could look at the year to date and find all of the signs that point to a dark and darker future. I prefer to say, “Cool, McFadden is walking around without a boot and J’Russ has another game of experience to draw upon!”. It gives me something to look forward to.
October 16th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Harbaugh? Why would he want to come to Oak to loose, he’s already doing it at Stanford. Al needs to step back and hire a GM. Oak hasn’t been the same since Al let the last one run off to TB to win a SB! Hopefully Jr won’t meddle once Al is in the big Superbowl in the sky.
October 16th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Jerry. Great job this week on the Rayda Joe Show. Keep it comming for us east cost peeps. Hope to hear you soon on the show. Sick & tired of this east coast biased media. Who cares about the OVERRATED N.F.C. East. Sick of hearing about them.
October 16th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Yo RaiderKC. If Jr. gets his way it will be the Las Vegas Raiders. You think we got distractions now. WOW.
October 16th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
Raiders Rule! Where is loser chaos?
October 16th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Its New York fans selling out the game. Have you been to an A’s game when they play the Yankees? Also, New England will also sell out because we have a lot of east coast natives living in the bay area. The Yankees and Patriots always do well in the bay area. Don’t be surprised at the number of Jet jerseys you see Sunday, and don’t act like a jerk and make us look ugly to the rest of the NFL. Show the rest of the NFL that Raider fans have plenty of friends from other teams. We know how to treat our neighbors from the east coast.

L.A. or Bust
October 17th, 2008 at 9:49 am
This team better get back to pounding the rock with Fargas and mixing it up with Wildhog formations with DMC and Bush. They need to use there strengths. The Wildcat or Hog formation can be used to the offenses advantage because they have the personnel. It will keep the jets defense or any freakin defense off balance and take the pressure off Russell to make every throw and every play. Get the short passing game with rythem passes to the WR’s with quick outs, ins , and curls along with quick tosses WR screen passes. Then after establishing that on offense….they can take shots downfield with Lelie and Miller.
Throw in some wheel routes to DMC also. They can also control the time of possesion and give that damn defense a rest (which they always will need) Ugh..
October 17th, 2008 at 9:57 am
DMC needs to run the ball out of the WildCat formation….not just hand off the whole time either and that O-Line needs to step it up!
Defense as always needs to get pressure on Favre…can we blitz a little up the middle and from the blindside of Favre a couple of times Ryan??
