Dead Head Davis Says:
October 21st, 2008 at 12:30 pm
You hear me loud and clear Dakota, fact is over the last five years the offense has sucked so bad the defense plays more minutes than the offense. Back when Gannon was effecient the offense always held the ball longer than the defense played during the game unless they lost because of turnovers. Your smart enough to figure out the rest Dakota.
___________________________________________________
Anyone, correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure we actually won the T.O.P. battle all of last year, but that didn’t stop the defense from losing games in the 4th quarter did it?
October 21st, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Why do we not have have any confidence in our offence the last half of every fourth quarter. We run the same runningplays every time and end up three and out only for our defence to come out and try and hold the opponent. This is where we loose the close games. The name of the game is to have and hold the ball, right?
October 21st, 2008 at 1:42 pm
go Dakota! @ least hell answer your question!
October 21st, 2008 at 1:43 pm
Hold on to the ball in the fourth quarter. Call winning plays. That’s what winners do. “The Replacements” movie the winners want the ball. The offensive coordinator is not a winner if he sends in non winning plays. Russel is paid millions of dollars to hand the ball off??? Go figure. Cable you are who I want to see lead us for the next five years. Be aggressive with the play calling. Fruit don’t fall far from the tree. It will catch a fire with the players. They will respond. It is human nature. If you plant apple seeds nothing is going to grow but apples. The playcalling is the apple seed. Whatugondowidit???
October 21st, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Its about Cable inspiring this bunch of overpaid slackers into doing their dam jobs and that includes coaching staffs.
Cable was hired to coach the Oline and went from “last to first” overnight with a team of failures.
I am all in and hope and pray he can swing them around by their balls untill they get the message.
Ravens are a very good ball team we have to travel coast to coast again, but everyone knows that, lets get down to the juicy parts.
We need to run the dam ball and then we have to stop them from running the dam ball and then we have to play well on special teams and force a turnover or two. JR needs to keep improving while not making turnovers (and he is doing a great job at that I might add) We can get to Flacco to make some turnovers. He is not half the man JR is.
Cable needs to mix up the plays. He cant run, run, pass, punt.
I predict our special teams outplay theres and that will be the diffence.

408,
I also asked Jerry this question, but he hasn’t answered it yet:
Jerry, I watched the 49er press conference today, and the media seemed much more aggressive in its questioning of the 49er’s GM than it was a few weeks ago when Al Davis held court. Why is that? Many of you guys cover both teams right? Are some of you scared of Al Davis? Are you scared he will ask “How’s your mother?”
October 21st, 2008 at 1:51 pm
LOL Dakota!
I asked him If he thought Huff and Hall could switch spots! Still no answer
October 21st, 2008 at 1:51 pm
that was tricky
October 21st, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Why was Branch on kickoff returns? I thought Higgins was doing a nice job there …
October 21st, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Rockstar,
I agree, bring back JLH! He was electric on returns, so why did Branch take his job?
October 21st, 2008 at 2:01 pm
I like what I hear from Tom Cable, he seems so much more comfortable with himself and handling men.
JaMarcus is hitting his stride, by simply being allowed to.
October 21st, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Andrews Mom,I disagree sort-of.I dont think we have what it takes 2 run the ball on the ravens D on a consistent basis.what we need 2 do is play action and long ball mix it up type of offence.Run Bush hard, use Dmac in the slot, let Johnnie Lee fly and try 2 keep them off balance.Maybe the ZB scheme can work, but that usually means running side 2 side or slanting.Ravens are tough up the gut,IMO
October 21st, 2008 at 2:03 pm
rock
I think we drafted him with that in mind. Al expects him to start making big plays, with or without the ball.
LMN was right about draft day. Some people knew right off the bat that he was a supermegafastheavyhitter.
He is gonna start busting loose with 6 points, sooner rather then later.
Al is gonna make a stuperbowl run and a very few, if any know how its done.
And you can cross jerry jones off the list, if he was ever on it.
No playoff wins in 12 years! hahahahahahaha, losers!
October 21st, 2008 at 2:08 pm
SB Run? Say what? Let’s find a HC that can last more than a year first, and then start talking about SB runs, lol.
October 21st, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I thought Higgins gave us a spark as KR. The only reason he should have been pulled was if he fumbled, muffed or had low averages for returns. none of those have been problems like they were last season. There is only 1 reason I can think of why Higgins shouldn’t be returning kicks as well as punts – that’s getting a lot of reps at WR, possibly even starting. That isn’t happening with Schilens & Walker as starters and Curry & Lelie vying for time in games as well …

Well, my guess is they thought he might do something extra.. he didn’t I think he will be good, but I agree JLH did a good job, and when he finally got his groove back and some self esteem then don’t tinkle with it.. JLH will be back next game I think..
October 21st, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Branch is a special teams stud, no doubt.. He should be fighting Huff & Eugene for reps at FS and Chris Johnson for reps in the dime. I’d like to see him in there to relieve Wilson when he needs a breather.

That works, like I said, mix it up, show some different looks. They have been practicing with McDaddy all year long.
I think this is the week we see some suprises, not wildcat or wildpig (thats good for a play, maybe two a game) but using showing more of the future with our our two mega stars.
Too bad Oneal went down, dan carter too know that I think about it. Oh well, never mind.

This is a stupid comment made by mike Preston with the Baltimore Sun:
“I think for all Raiders home games, their team officials go to the local insane asylums and give away tickets. Their fans are nuts. It’s a freak show. Women dress like men and men dress like women. It’s Halloween night there for every home game. They have 250-pound women with no teeth wearing shoulder pads, and grandmothers wearing bikers’ gear. When Raiders fans tailgate, it’s the largest barbecue on earth because a black cloud hangs over the entire city.
Raiders fans drink forever and their stadium is a dump. I go to the stadium extra early in Oakland because I like to roam around and see all the weird people. It’s much more entertaining than their games”
He is almost as dumb as Kawakami…

It’s official _ O’Neal, Carter done for year
Coach Lane Kiffin told Bay Area media by conference call Sunday evening fullback Oren O’Neal and wide receiver Drew Carter were out for the season with left knee injuries.
O’Neal’s injury, Kiffin said, was serious enough to be considered career-threatening, saying, “it was as bad as it can get” and adding it was fortunate TV cameras didn’t pick it up. Kiffin said the injury went beyond a simple ACL tear and had

There’s more after the jump, but I can definitely give you the line of the night, courtesy of Jerry Rice. He was was up on stage being interviewed and somebody asked him about Norv Turner. Before the question was finished (I don’t even remember the question itself), Rice blurts out, “Worst Coach Ever” without batting an eye. He’s also not too impressed with Randy Moss as he made a point to mention how it took Moss more games to set the record. Not bitter at all.

BHP – I really think you took the Jamarcus Russell conversation too much to heart. I understand that Russell has only played a few games. I understand he has alot more development. I didn’t say he was a bust. He was held for a year in the system so he could sit and learn how to be a productive QB in the NFL. He hasn’t been as impressive as I would expect him to be despite the development stage. So what? I’m not expecting a Pro Bowler. My opinion doesn’t make me an idiot just because you think hes going to be the greatest thing ever. Maybe he will be. We’ll see.
Also…You’re right, Brady Quinn was knocked for inaccuracy coming out of college while JR was known for having accuracy and a strong arm. All I was saying is that so far…JR has not shown me that accuracy he supposedly had coming out of college. I haven’t really seen Quinn play in the NFL so I don’t know how good he is in that department. For all we know, Quinn could end up having great accuracy and JR may not. A team and its direction can make or break a QB so we’ll have to see which organization can help there QB.
In regards to this Huffy thing. Come on man. Its one thing to argue but grow up. If you’re going to slam my opinion, thats one thing but don’t look childish while doing it.

If Tom Cable doesn’t stay as the Head Coach next year, does he go back to coaching the offensive line or does he exit the team altogether? Has anybody ever heard of an Interim Coach going back to their original coaching position after not staying as the Head Coach? Can anybody agree that Knapp, Cable and Rathman could all be gone after this year? How do you think that affects our offense? What about the defense? Rob Ryan is in the last year of his contract. Does he get replaced or does AD bring him back?

A possibility that I heard before Kiffin was fired is that Cable, Knapp and some others would go to Seattle next year. But that was all before and what if the Raiders succeed this year? Rob Ryan deals with Al and would have to lay an egg the rest of the year for Al to let him go.
BTW: it’s good to see someone that actually talks football

Raidersdude925 – This place is like a Starbucks but with a bar atmosphere. You can only talk Raiders so much before people get complacement. The fact is..if you want to talk Raiders, you have to make a personal effort and hope that people respond and if they don’t, you just have to try another hour.
Back to the topic…I definately believe that Seattle will give the coaching job to Jim Mora Jr. who got screwed by having Michael Vick as his QB. I also believe that Knapp, Cable and Rathman will all end up there as well. I have no idea who the Head Coach of the Raiders will be at this point. I don’t know if anybody is interested and of the interested, will it be an untested guy or a veteran coach. I can’t imagine anybody like Bill Cowher coming here so it would have to be a Jim Harbaugh or younger or more inexperienced guy if you’re looking for potential, otherwise, it will probably be someone like Jim Fassel.
Either way…This isn’t good for the organization as a whole, nor the players that are in development stage. It hasn’t been good for the veterans either as the last 5 years have proven so we’re not in a good spot unless Tom Cable does well and stays as the Head Coach. Thats the only way to keep the continuity and to keep the current coaches here in my opinion but the big question behind it all is whether Rob Ryan stays or goes and being that Rob Ryan is in the last year of his contract, he said he could get a job in 5 minutes. Unless he gets the Head Coaching job with the Raiders, I think we’ll see him as the Jets Defensive Coordinator if Mangini is still there.

After rewatching the Charger, Bills and Jets games(you know, instead of like raising my kids!) I have come to notice that we have no short passing game when it comes to 3rd and 2 or 3. I’ve seen how time and again in 3rd and short situations when we pass the ball it’s usually a 5 step drop and at best Jamarcus will throw to the flat but the play takes too long to develop. We had one good 3 yard dig route by JLH against the Chargers but it’s hard to find any others. Think of Indy. Whenever they need an important 1st down they have the short slant pass down at the knees to perfection. If the ball is thrown properly it is literally impossible to defend. This is a big part of the reason our 3rd down conversion rate is so bad. We either run it or have Jamarcus sling 10 yards down field into coverage. Just a few more first downs per game would be huge for both sides of the ball.

Lets hope for the sake of the Raiders organization, players and fans that under Cable the franchise can function properly for the remainder of the year. I think if Cable can bring the team as a whole together as he did our “O” line these last several years the RAIDERS will finish strong. It would probably take making the play offs this year for Cable to be reconsidered as head coach. Wins covers a multitude of football sins and makes a team seem functional.
I think if the Raiders finish strong that Knapp and company would really have to consider going to Seattle. Seattle is one of the worst teams in the league now.
Ryan is another story. I wonder if the Raiders do make a strong run this year if Al won’t renegotiate to extend his contract this year?

Regarding the coaching situation next year.
Cable, Rathman & Knapp are supposed to be gone – to Seattle to work for new HC Mora. RR will most likely be gone if he’s not named HC.
Here are some possibilities: Considering AD’s desire for the big time stretch game and JR’s cannon, it would not surprise me to see Mike Martz named HC. As far as the DC position goes, why not Nolan, ex-HC 49ers? Nolan has a deep background in defense and a lot of exposure to top quality defense from the Ravens. He and Martz also have worked together.
This combination could work in Oakland.

I don’t say you don’t have it from McDonalds blog, actually I know it is from there, its Jerrys words, Kiffins is only on record for “it was as bad as it can get”
Jerry and OO’ are the ones who are on record for the career ending remark, though Jerry’s is from when Kiffin was HC, and OO’s is from when Cable had become HC..

The old man will not hire Mad Mike Martz…if he goes retread than it will be Fassell. Lets hope if Fassell is hired, than he keeps Cable, Rathman and Lofton as coaches. In that scenario, Fassell will be calling the plays. He has always been a play caller.

I would accept Nolan as a D Coordinator….
October 21st, 2008 at 4:32 pm
JB – This is a REPOST by me from lastnight.
Mike Nolan was the Defensive Coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens from 2002-2004.
Defensive Ranking:
2002 – #22
2003 – #21
2004 – #31
Somehow…Mike Nolan got a Head Coaching job with the 49ers.
Defensive Ranking for the 49ers:
2005 – #32
2006 – #26
2007 – #32
2008 – #16 after 2-5 Record (Fired)
I rest my case.

Can’t argue with those numbers. I just remember that the Ravens stuffed us defensively & I thought Nolan was with them at the time. I guess that just proves that it doesn’t rub off by just being there.

Huff24, how do you post photos? I need to get in the mix with this stuff. I coulb bring a lot to the party.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:40 pm
JB – Heres my problem with Martz. Hes like an advanced Tom Walsh. I understand Martz has a Superbowl and all but that was built off of Dick Vermeil. Anyways, heres what you can expect from Martz and what we’ve seen with the recent 49ers.
Too many 7 step drops.
Not enough protection schemes for the QB, leaving only 5 offensive lineman to do the blocking while usually sending out his RB’s to catch the ball. These 7 step drops and lack of protection leave the QB’s vulnerable to many sacks. Look at O’Sullivan this year, Jon Kitna in Detroit and Kurt Warner in St. Louis.
He abandons the run way too much and goes strictly with the pass. This puts way too much pressure on the QB to carry the team, takes the ball out of a playmaker like Gore’s hands in the running game and becomes too one dimensional. If we know anything about this team, our running game is our bread and butter and if we ditch that, we don’t have an offense.
He does not take advantage of the TE. You never see a TE flourish in the Martz system. There wasn’t one with the Rams, the Lions or the 49ers and the 49ers have Vernon Davis. Now, you might say Davis is a bust but I think that Martz doesn’t know how to utilize him properly.
With all that said, this is what the Raiders would look like under Martz. Alot of sacks. Lack of the running game taking away Fargas, McFadden and Bush and lack of a TE with Zach Miller. This team is built on those guys are our foundation. Martz is the complete opposite of what this team is built upon.
Vote No on Proposition Martz

October 21st, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Maualuga would be great addition to the defense thats for sure! Our LB corp would be nasty!
Maualuga can play inside and outside IMO and he would be very much like a Polamalu out there with range. That would allow so much flexibility with Morrison, Howard, and Brown. If the Raiders get stuck with a top 5 pick….then Oher, Maualuga, or the freakish DE from G Tech Johnson should be the pick!
October 21st, 2008 at 4:55 pm
I don’t think one West Coast team has went to the East Coast and won the 10am game yet this year. That’s why the point spread is 7 for the Ravens. We can be the first!!
October 21st, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Raiders first pick should be that WR from Maryland: Heyward-Bey. Dude runs like a 4.3 and is 6′3, you know Al isn’t going to pass him up.
October 21st, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Awful hard to take a WR #1 unless it is a Calvin Johnson type…
October 21st, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Martz would be horrible as the HC…his philosophy and system is just very un balanced and he passes way too much and abandons the run in key situations.
With the way the O line is built right now…his offense would get Russell killed. Ugh
