Halftime: Chiefs 10, Raiders 3
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, November 30th, 2008 at 2:42 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Scoring
KC–Maurice Leggett 66-yard fumble return (Connor Barth kicks PAT), 11:57
Notes:
– Darren McFadden grabbed his own fumble at the 14-yard-line to avert a pre-halftime disaster with 18 seconds remaning.
Oakland’s last possession of the half was doomed from the start when Kwame Harris was called for holding on the first snap, forcing the Raiders back to the 10.
– The Chiefs were forced to punt the ball back to the Raiders with 1:17 left in the half when an officials review negated a 1-yard first-down run by Tyler Thigpen, bringing up fourth-and-1 from their own 38. Dustin Coluqitt punted the ball into the end zone, with the Raiders getting the ball their own 20 with 49 seconds left in the half.
– Following a Chiefs drive in which they got one first down on a Tyler Thigpen 11-yard pass to Tony Gonzalez (against tight coverage by Nnamdi Asomugha), the Raiders obliged with a three-and-out and a Shane Lechler punt which had the Chiefs at their own 28.
Kansas City was offsides, with the Raiders accepting the penalty and punting from the 38 to try and pin the Chiefs a little deeper in their own territory. Lechler responded with one of his weaker punts, a 33-yarder that enabled Kanssa City to open a yard farther out at the 29.
– Russell overthrew a diving Ronald Curry in the end zone on fourth-and-2 from the 21-yard line as the Raiders came up empty with 5:05 left in the half.
It was the 68th first-half possession this season, during which time the Raiders have one touchdown in Week 4 against San Diego. They’ve now blown six potential points on field goals on the fake earlier in the quarter plus the fourth-down gamble.
Included in Oakland’s drive was a 20-yard Russell to McFadden slant pass and a 16-yard bootleg by Russell in which he lowered his shoulder and dropped Bernard Pollard.
– Having dazzled with a hook-and-lateral play on their first possession, the Raiders fizzled with an ill-advised fake field goal attempt that ended up a 67-yard touchdown return by Leggett.
Lining up for a 43-yard field goal attempt, it appeared holder Shane Lechler was supposed to pitch to a lumbering Sebastian Janikowski, running to his left, on fourth-and-10. Not only would Janikowski have been stuffed, but Lechler missed the pitch, with Leggett coming in to scoop up the gift and run for the touchdown.
To repeat _ fourth-and-10. Janikowski. Running the ball.
Really.
No shot from the owner’s box, but rest assured there was smoke coming form the ears of Al Davis.

This will be a easy 2nd half victory!!!
November 30th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
“How to screw up the last :49 secs of a half” Brought to you by the Oakland Raiders.
Freaking pathetic man… Let’s hope the second half is better, anything at this point would be an improvement…
November 30th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
“This will be a easy 2nd half victory!!!”
For whom?
November 30th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Maybe Cable can read the scouting report he obviously left under his pillow, and run the fukkin ball up the middle on the queefs.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Raiders losing at the half against the worst defense in football because of missed chances and stupid coaching.
The world is back to normal.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
I was afraid after lastweeks blow-win against Denver, we would come home and stink up the place like our oldselves. However we were kinda in the same predicament last week and came out in the 2nd half and went to work so hopefully these dudes will stop playing like girls and man up so we can beat these clowns called the Chiefs.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
We need taller receivers.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Yeah baby!
November 30th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
PaleRaider, you make it sound as if it’s up to Cable…
November 30th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Davis didn’t draft Russell to hand off the ball. It’s not about winning in Oakland. It’s about doing things Al Davis’s way. That’s why I’m guessing we ditch the run and air it out this half.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
MR – don’t think the fake field goal call came from upstairs from an owner who despises to blitz on defense.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Then why did he draft McFadden, MR?
November 30th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
Maybe not, Pale. That probably was the coaches. But the Raiders prematurely ditching the run in games for, I dunno, 20 somewhat years now, is Cable and Knapp’s fault?
November 30th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Hey, never mind. So far, so good.
November 30th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
That’s what we need to do!

Scouting report says Chiefs are 2nd worstr run D and 4th worst Pass D….good chance for JR, who plays better at home than the road, to build on last week….scouting report also says Run the Ball on the Edge vs the Quifs….
November 30th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Fargas!!
November 30th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Those hurt too. Holding penalties. Signs of an undisciplined team.

November 30th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Holding penalties…biggest drive killer in football.

Chis Johnson is the man!
November 30th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Thank you.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Im gonna take a guess and say Cable is not trying to win the coaching job next year, becuase when you call a fake field goal and toss it to Janokowski it says that you’re not serious about winning games. That was about as dumb as Kiffin trying a 75yd field goal. I hope we can get a real football coach in Oakland soon.

November 30th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Oh boy, oh boy, does that stupid ff call loom large. Thanks fat boy!
November 30th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Did we lose our offensive sync in denver. KC appears to want it more than we do–try to strip the ball, tackles with trying to get the ball lose etc.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Kwame harris with his 2nd of two false start penalties!!! back to the o line inconsistencies like most of the season, hence the result of the game!!
November 30th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
Kwame Harris – How many chances does this guy get?
JRuss & the Hurry up offense – About as fast as Jamarcus talks.
November 30th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Everytime I think that the Raiders are just a few pieces away from being descent, they lose to a team like KC.
December 1st, 2008 at 1:14 am
Well, it’s official. Al Davis talked to Herm Edwards about coaching the Raiders next year. Looks like we’ll finally have a real coach!!!
