Report: Bush being shopped

According to Pewterreport.com, the Raiders are shopping running back Michael Bush.
(Be patient with the link _ some web sites are moving extremely slow or shutting down because of heavy traffic.)
The Bucs, victims of a 177-yard rushing effort by Bush in the season finale, are said to be interested.
Got a call on this last night, asking about the possibility, and my response was that it seemed unlikely for the following reasons.
– Bush is a bargain, earning $460,000 this year and $550,000 in 2010. The Raiders like to think they got a first-round talent at a fourth-round price, and would be more likely to offload a higher-priced back such as Justin Fargas.
– The Raiders plan to run the ball as much or more than they did last year. They needed all three runners in 2008. No reason to think they won’t need them all in 2009.
– Darren McFadden was less than durable as a rookie. Could be a freak occurance, but you don’t know for sure until he carries 200-plus times and catches 60-plus passes in a 16-game season.
That makes Bush all the more valuable.
If you’re looking for reasons how a Bush deal could be possible, consider the following:
– When Bush was asked to put in some time at fullback because of injuries to Oren O’Neal and Justin Griffith, his response was less than enthusiastic.
He could have looked at it as a chance to broaden his game, catch some passes and maybe even have some plays put in to make his of his skills that went beyond blocking. Instead, he was resistant.
– At the press conference announcing the hire of Tom Cable, when owner Al Davis talked about the group of running backs, he talked about “four” quality runners.
That would indicate that he likes Louis Rankin. Enough to part with Bush? Seems unlikely.
– The Raiders are simply fishing and hope to reel in a big one. What if a team liked Bush enough to offer a first-round draft pick, or a high second?
If no offer were to surface, no big deal.
With the Raiders, you seldom rule out anything without careful consideration. As far as the possibility Bush is actually traded, let’s say I’m skeptical.
In other developments, a source close to guard Cooper Carlisle said he is lining up visits and will start in the south. Carlisle went to college in Florida.

Broncos In The Picture For Ray Lewis?
Report Says It’s Possible
Steve Cox BALTIMORE (CBS4) ―
Could it be possible that Ravens All-Pro linebacker Ray Lewis could somehow end up in a Denver Broncos uniform? Sounds far-fetched, but the idea is picking up some traction in rumor mills on the Internet.
Now most of the reports on Lewis up to this point have said he’s looking at three options, none including the Broncos.
1) Re-sign with the Ravens
2) Sign with the Cowboys
3) Sign with the Jets.
However, Jamison Hensley on the Baltimore Sun’s Web site puts the Broncos in the mix as another option.
Here’s what Hensley wrote:
“This is the team that has stayed under the radar with Lewis. But there are strong signs Denver could make a run at him.
New Broncos defensive coordinator Nolan had a great relationship with Lewis when he was the Ravens’ defensive coordinator. They would meet every week to discuss game-planning.
Besides, Denver is not expected to re-sign middle linebacker Nate Webster. It has been estimated the Broncos have more than $30 million in salary-cap room.
This could be a more viable destination than the Cowboys or the Jets.”

Brown is a fourth-year player who is a backup guard and tackle. He was a backup all year in 2008, but did start five games for Arizona in 2007. He has very good size and strength. He is better suited athletically to play inside at guard rather than outside on the edge versus speed-rushers. He has good initial quickness in the run game, but tends to be upright on contact. Brown has a strong upper body to control and steer defenders, but his footwork is inconsistent to sustain angles. He shows average balance and body control, which limits his ability to finish or adjust versus quickness. In pass protection, he has average foot speed and lateral quickness. He is effective on the short set in a confined area where his size and strength can lock on quickly. His lack of foot quickness will cause him to lean and get overextended versus quicker players who can change direction and get on his edge. Overall, Brown still has upside as a guard due to his size and strength, but he lacks top athleticism as an offensive tackle.

Brian Dawkins will be visiting Denver. I’m not happy about that but there front seven isn’t all that good so Dawkins would have to cheat up alot and that could take him out of coverage.

Maybe Bush asked for the trade and the Raiders are looking around to appease him. If nobody shows any interested, the Raiders can go back to Bush and say..see? Trading Michael Bush for a 1st round pick would be stupid. Effectively trading the teams only running back, because Fargas and DMAC are injury proned, would cripple this offense.
What the hell are they thinking up there. Finally have a running back that makes the team a tougher out, a back that can punish a defense and trade him for what? The right to draft Heyward-Bey?
I am upset that this is even a rumor. Especially the way Al Davis gets worked over when it comes to trades and free agency

This could be a cheap pick up to compliment Miller and open him up in the passing game:
Daniel Campbell TE (Texas A&M)
Age: 32
Height: 6-5
Weight: 265 lbs.
Campbell has only been activated for three games over the past two seasons and has just two receptions during that time. He missed all but one game in 2008 due to injury and his future is in doubt. He does have good size, instincts and toughness but has limited athleticism. He understands angles and how to gain leverage with proper techniques as a blocker, but isn’t explosive at the point of attack. He is a limited route-runner with average quickness, burst and speed out of his break points. He also has good hands, but tends to lose focus at times and will drop some easy passes.

Vrabel to the Chiefs would be the Chiefs way of defending against Josh McDaniels and his offense with the Broncos. Things should get pretty interesting with all the Patriot influence in the AFC West now.

Michael Bush was right! He should have been the starting running back out of training camp. Not trying to learn the fullback position.
Put Fargas at fullback. His running style is more conducive to that position.
Michael Bush could become the next Earl Campbell.
Cable had better realize that at the end of the day talent trumps everything! This isn’t pop warner or JV. Bush is the best back period!

If Tampa offers the #19 pick in the draft for Bush, I’d trade him in a Tampa minute! It’s obviously going to be the DMac and JRuss show, so Rankin and Fargas will more than suffice as backups.
Heck, Bush couldn’t even get on the field. Not saying it’s right or wrong, but it is what it is. I’d rather have that 1st round pick than a guy who is going to be getting minimal carries, or on the bench.

RaiderNation951 – I agree with you but that doesn’t mean you have to go after a project. There are plenty of veteran offensive lineman that would come at a good price who would be much better than Cornell Green as an example. Theres alot of talent on the free agent market this year. Al Davis will wait for all the big money spending to pass and then he’ll dive in and take the leftovers. You can still find alot of talent for alot less money by doing that.

You wouldn’t trade Bush for a 1st rounder? I’d take heyward-bay over bush. How many RBs get traded for 1st rounders? Who was the last one, Faulk? In the ZBS, you’re supposed to be able to plug any quick RB in there and he’d take off.. We drafted Bush with a 4th rounder, getting a 1st for him and being able to upgrade another position would help more than having him be a complimentary RB..

Michael Bush is a grade a elite back. If he were put back into the draft right now, he would be a top 10 pick.
So the Raiders keep absolute failed players like Sands and Warren but trade a guy like Michael Bush.
Rade a big brusing running back that can catch the ball out the backfield and block.

I would trade Bush for a 1st or 2nd rd pick. you can get a bonafide starter in those rds instead of a part-time/back-up RB.

This is not a fantasy football team people! You do not have 2 RB slots, 2 WR spots, a WR/RB slot, etc. Cmon!
Dmac is going to be the main guy behind a fullback, just like he was in the KC game before the toe stuff started. Fargas couldn’t get a 4th round pick in our wildest fantasies.
In a best case scenario, Bush will get Lindell White type carries. May be unfortunate, but it is what it is.

Trading Bush for a 1st round pick would be a steal because we already have a high priced #1 back with McFadden. As much as I love Bush (haha), he will always be 2nd fiddle to McFadden and hes a steal as a 4th round pick for as much talent as his. Getting a 1st round would be incredible and with 2 1st round picks and a low 2nd round, you could get 3 really good players at 3 different positions to fill out the roster vs. having 2 really good players at one position.

Trade a big, bruising running back with good hands for a wide receiver with 4.3 speed.
A move like that would put an EXCLAMATION POINT on the word SOFT!
Soft as in what’s been the Raiders the last 6 years! Soft as in a team with fine china in the backfield (Fargas and DMAC)!
Soft as in a team that emphasizes speed over toughness.
The Tampa game was the doggone blueprint on how the Raiders should win for now on.
Trade all that for another speed receiver that probably hates going over the middle.

Evans has been a starter, since his rookie year, when he was drafted by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2006 draft. He is a good combination of mauler and athletic lineman, who is still learning the finer points of the techniques for blocking on the offensive line in the NFL. He still needs some work with his hand use and placement. He will get a wide grasp that can lead to holding. He is quick with his first step, can gain initial position on blocks and has enough agility to react or adjust to movement. He is quick coming out for the pull. He can adjust and react on the corner to zero in on blocks in the open field. He can roll his hips to turn and seal opponents on the edge and will set with a good base to wall off. He understands angles, how to protect the pocket in pass pro and flashes the ability to react or adjust to counter moves. He has good lower-body strength, can sink his hips to anchor against a bull rush or roll his hips and unload to deliver a good blow on drive blocks. He is an adequate knee-bender and does a good job of keeping his pad level down to leverage his blocks. He is learning to finish blocks off and will work the block until the whistle to sustain. He will overextend when in space and lose rushers to good counters or change-of-direction pass rush moves.

Bush is 3rd on the depth chart (like it or not). Fargas has no trade value. The coaching staff is high on Rankin. Bush has a bad attitude. he’s selfish and he’s a pansy, even if he is talented. for a 1st round pick? pull the trigger. don’t even think about it …
keep in mind everybody under the sun had success running in the zbs (when healthy). Fargas, McFadden, Jordan, Rhodes, Echemandu, etc. remember the scrubs denver used to plug in? it’s the system more than the players at RB in the zbs

I think Bush “can” be great but as of right now, we don’t know whether or not he will be. Thats a fact. He had a great game in Week 17 against a Defense that through in the towel 4 weeks before with the announcement that Monte Kiffin would be heading to Tennessee. Everyone hated Gruden and the team had given up and Bush was able to capitalize. I’m not denying his skills but I also don’t think you’re going to see alot of games like that either. I don’t want Bush traded but you can’t annoint him as a GREAT back until hes great for 16 games, not 1.

How hard is this? It’s not about his “potential” talent in this league, it’s about him not being the guy in Oakland. If DMac wasn’t the guy, it would be the same story for him, get what you can instead of him wasting away on the bench.

I thought i’d be going against the grain in the thought of tradin Mike Bush.

If we traded Bush to the Bucs…That would be one pissed off team with Antonio Bryant and the newly traded Kellen Winslow. I’d feel bad for Luke McCown haha. (Poor Man’s Eli Manning)

Wow! are u serious? Why doesn’t Al and Cable like this guy? Man if we aren’t getting atleast a 3rd for him I wouldn’t trade him. Al must be trying to bring in someonelse like a Deuce Mcalister to serve as a back-up to Mcfadeen. Looks like Fargas should be gone too. I would agree with this if this is the scenario. We should be packaging up a pick and fargas to either the Rams for WR Torry Holt or to the Bengals for WR Ocho Cinco, it has to be one of the two. I wouldn’t take a chance on signing other castoff recievers for a bargain. Hell we could re-sign our own if that’s the case. WE need a bonifide star receiver and these two are the most likely scenario. OT Khalif Barnes should be sign sealed and delivered. If we get those two needs we are good to go. We need to also to offer the Cowboys a late round pick plus QB Andrew Walter for SS Roy Williams. We need to get active, we can make it happen. Some defensive prospects I’ve targeted are DT Rocky Benard if we cut Sands. DE Bertrand Berry would be nice for a good price. FS Marlon Mccree. DE/DT Igor Ishansky. SS Laywer Milloy.

Ted Tollner is well versed in the Air Coryell offense. Thats why he’s our passing game coordinator. Al Saunders didn’t want to come here as OC with Cable calling the plays. Tollner is just glad to have a job after being fired as 49ers QB Coach.
Giving Russell a solid o-line and a go to receiver will help him a lot more than a 3rd string RB.
trading Bush doesn’t create another hole. His spot would be given to Louis Rankin. Rankin would also compete with Branch for the KR job, since Justin Miller wasn’t retained

Curry played at WAKE FORREST. That isn’t what I would consider a football powerhouse. Why in the hell would you take a chance on a player with the 6th pick in the draft that hasn’t played aginst the best in College? Let the Chef’s have him.

This team needs to sign anyone of these free agents and add players like Ray Lewis, Cato June, Jon Runyan, Brian Dawkins, and Jason Brown.
Can you imagine what Ray Lewis would add to this team in regards to leadership and experience?? The same goes with Dawkins….instead of wasting money on primadonnas like Hall and Walker…..the old man needs to invest on true field generals and leaders that would bring something to this team like what Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice, and Rod Woodson did for this team.
Dawkins is going to visit the Broncos and thats the type of player the old man needs to SIGN.

DMac never had an injury history until he met the Raider doctors, LOL! I think that he’ll be ok now that he’s not letting them any where near him.
If DMac goes down at some point, then Rankin and Fargas will do just fine until Dmac gets back.
And so will Unger or Mack who we could also have for 16 games with that 19th pick. Or Cushing? Oher at RT?
Instead of Bush lingering around on the sidelines disgruntled? You know he’s gone in two years anyway, so if Tampa wants to bend over again for us, let them.

Sands is responisble for subpar play and is overpaid, whatever role hes in.
Bush is 3rd, but should be 1st. Our other 2 backs can’t (or didn’t) stay healthy.
This guy has all kinds of potential is here at a bargain.
Put Sands on any other defense and see how much they pay him. Put Bush on another offense and watch him start.

Here is another OT that the Raiders need to take a long look at:
Mark Tauscher OT (Wisconsin)
Age: 31
Height: 6-3
Weight: 316 lbs.
Tauscher has been a mainstay on the Packers’ offensive line, since entering the league nine years ago. He is a hard-nosed competitor who wins with effort, intelligence and technique. He understands angles and how to gain leverage with proper hand use and body positioning. Tauscher isn’t an explosive blocker off the line of scrimmage, but has strong hands to stay connected once engaged. He can anchor effectively versus power bull rushes, but tends to have a tough time blocking speed edge-rushers. Tauscher is an average overall athlete who is best in a limited area. He has good knee bend, but his lateral agility and quickness is limited in space. He is effective on combination blocks, but his lack of nimble feet will get exposed on the second level. Tauscher is also a solid reactor to stunts and twists, which enables him to be effective in both man- and zone-blocking schemes.

do you guys remember how turf tow affected Charles Woodson? Well Darren McFadden had turf toe on BOTH FEET. don’t you think feet are pretty important in just about EVERY task a RB is asked to do? Plus he played almost the entire season with a shoulder injury.
He was never injured in college. He was the best back in college and the draft. Why is everyone saying that he’s injury prone now? It’s not like he’s a wimp and he got 1 turf toe and a shoulder injury against the Chiefs in Week 2 and landed on IR. This kid kept trying to get in the game, week after week. Bush made excuses NOT to get in the game by refusing to play fullback. McFadden is the guy here in Oakland, not Bush. Let’s get that straight right now

You and others complained mightily about the Raiders 3rd down offense. Well, if the defensive strategy is to rely on the offense scoring more points and converting 3rd downs, I would think a big 240 pound running back with good hands would be the guy to keep.

The fact that you guys are defending Bush’s talent puts an exclamation point on the fact that you are missing the point.
If you or I were running the team, maybe we would see Bush and McFadden run the ball 15 to 20 times a piece, but it’s not the Cables’ plan. It’s likely Bush will stay so it’s mute point, but you are not going to see him on the field much if McFadden is healthy.
If you’re cool with seeing him get 4 or 5 token carries a game instead of adding a potential STARTER with an additional 1st, 2nd, or 3rd then …… I guess ?!!?!?!?!?

Big mistake; Michael Bush is the only legitimate feature running-back on the roster. Much as I love him, McFadden is a gadget player, hybrid, 3rd down back, he is not gonna move the chains for 4 quarters through 16 weeks, Fargas is an OK back-up, but is one face-plant away from forced-retirement and Rankin is nothing special. If we trade Bush, I guarantee we would be looking for another high-round RB in the 2010 draft.

Bush’s comment when being tried at FB was something like “i don’t want to run into a brick wall”. football is a contact sport, if you don’t like it, go do taxes for a living… Bush was huffing & puffing in the TB game. Thats a conditioning problem. He was hardly used in the first 15 games of the season. He should have been fresh, right? 27 carries is what a RB should expect if the o-line is blocking like it should be.

That what we’re paying them big bucks for. would you prefer a tight game and plenty of 3 & outs from the offense? remember the Panthers game? replay that over & over again in your mind. 15 more times. Add Rankin to point #2 (if need be). force Warren & Sands to restructure (they have no leverage. wouldn’t start anywhere else in the NFL) see what a John Marshall defense looks like for a year. no way do you EVER bench Kirk Morrison.

Trade a big, bruising running back with good hands for a wide receiver with 4.3 speed.
A move like that would put an EXCLAMATION POINT on the word SOFT!
Soft as in what’s been the Raiders the last 6 years! Soft as in a team with fine china in the backfield (Fargas and DMAC)!
Soft as in a team that emphasizes speed over toughness.
The Tampa game was the doggone blueprint on how the Raiders should win for now on.
Trade all that for another speed receiver that probably hates going over the middle.

Who needs more draft picks anyway when everyone is big on replacing our prior picks in the draft this year:
1. Jake Grove with Unger or Mack
2. Kirk Morrison with Maualuga
3. Mario Henderson with Oher, J. Smith or Monroe

5. JLH / Schilens with Crabtree or Maclin
6. Trevor Scott with Orakpo
Yet players like Kelly/Sands/Warren and Fargas have die-hard supporters.

If Grove can stay healthy, resign him. He hasn’t been very durable over the last few years. I don’t see the Raiders staying with what we currently have on the roster through FA.
Drafting has never been a Raider strong point. They have managed a couple of pure studs, but produced far more dud’s.

WHy would one value a practice squad player who’s only highlights are in preseason over a guy like Bush who ran 27x for 177yds in a regular season game

As i recall, there were several 3rd and shorts that he didn’t convert (tho i don’t remember specifically).. And your point meaning we need better o line fits with what i’m thinking.. Like it or not, bush is 2nd string at the highest because we used a number 4 pick on Mcfadden. RB is a very deep position on our team. OL is not. If we have a backup RB with value to another team, why not trade him to better a position of need on our team (OL)?

Fargas has missed significant time in his two years as a starter.
DMAC hurt both his feet and his shoulder in his 1st year as a starter.
Both players missed the last game of the year.
I like both players, but they can’t be considered reliable. Especially Fargas.
As for Bush, perhaps if they started him from day 1, he would have helped put up some stats.

Listen, I am McFadden’s biggest fan, but we still need to keep Bush! The guy is loaded with talent and the dipschits leaving him on the bench need to get a fukin clue.
You need two good runningbacks, and the two on our team should be McFadden and Bush…if someone needs to go it should be Fargas. Rankin can get us 1.1 tds/season and drop lots of passes too…perfect replacement for Fargas.

Washington is stupid to overpay for both primadonnas like Hall and Hayneworth.

The Raiders need to sign TRUE field generals and vets who are leaders and will work hard no matter what…like Lewis, Dawkins, Runyan, Cato June or even Derrick Brooks.

When was the last time Al didn’t get outstanding value in a big trade? Maybe Randy Moss, but we all wanted that clown gone regardless of the return. Next is the Lachey trade, and Ron Wolf owned up to that bad call Thats it (and don’t even bring up the Gruden trade…we raped the Bucs on that one).
Lets face it… Al won’t trade Bush unless he can get something well worth the swap, and that is the #19 pick. We could end up with Crabtree, Maualuga and Unger THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Bush= good hands, bruising back, durable (argument could be made about his college injuries, but has had signifiacnt time to heal and looked pretty damn good to me), 3rd and short.
DMC= explosive, finnese back, slot receiver, good hands
Fargas= great work ethick, good blocker, dedicated, not a lot of talent, bad hands.
Bush+DMC+Fargas= solid backfield
Bush+DMC+Fargas-Bush= shakey backfield.

Turf toe can happen simply by planting your foot in the ground and having improper footwear on. His toe wasn’t dislocated. It is a freak thing that happened and it didn’t happen when he got tackled, it happened when he was running, that is why he got caught…didn’t you see him suddenly slow down on that play?

Trading Bush would be the utmost in stupidity.
Fargas is a glorified journeyman who is now long in the tooth, McFadden breaks too easily, and Bush is the only thing close to a pound-it-between-the-tackles player they have. Bush is capable of being the monster they thought he was when they drafted him and they do not have a chance is hell of getting that kind of talent for that low of a price.
I would suggest they have McFadden and Bush on the field at the same time most of the game and have McFadden going back and forth from RB to slot receiver while Bush is the primary RB pounding the crap out of defenses. Cut Fargas or trade him or keep him as a back-up where he belongs (albeit an overpriced back-up).
Don’t screw this up – again, Al (and now Cable) !!!

I mentioned earlier I would go 2nd and a conditional pick next year depending on performance (no less than a 2nd) but I still can’t see them doing that. Cato june have been too slow for the last 3 years, have you watched games where he have been playing.. well he hasnt been good to say it mildly, and yes I think he is too old, I want a 24-27 year old to lead the LBs if thats not possible then draft a kid!

Isn’t that one of the reasons why people are so critical of Al Davis? the rumor is that he puts low priority on coaches and the utmost priority on players. thats why he always overpays players and underpays (or doesn’t pay) coaches. I disagree. I think coaching makes a HUGE difference.
Rankin was elevated to the 53 man roster at season’s end so that no other team could sign him. The coaching staff thinks highly of him, not just me.

Maybe that is why the run numbers are skewed. Because the pass defense was actually pretty good. Teams had to run the ball and that was very smart considering our offense was doing nothing.

Like it or not Al (and probably Cable) have Bush 3rd on the depth chart. Their man crush with Fargas will have him at worst as the 2nd RB.
Bush had one good game, against a D that quit weeks earlier and with an O-line dominating the line of scrimmage. I would say he had a good game against the Chiefs week 2, but he lost a fumble with under 5 minutes to go in the game that could have cost us.

TRADE BUSH?
Trading Bush would be a huge blunder even for a 1st rd pick. Bush is a potential every down back. While Fargas and DMAC have their roles, neither of them is a 20-25 carries a game guy like Bush was at the end of last year. BTW – The Raiders offense looked a lot better with Bush against TB than any other time.
DMAC may be exciting but he is looking to be like Reggie Bush without Duece and that’s not good. DMAC’s 1 yard gains puffed up by the occassional big run is not consistant. Bush is the guy who can carry the load and keep DMAC fresh for big runs and Fargas healthy for the kamakasi 7 yard slashes in the fourth quarter.
TALENT versus Salary Bush is possibly the teams best value player. Trade him for a 50-50 bust at a higher salary? Why?

first if cato had been fast as he once were, his age would be no biggy, but as of how “fast/Slow” he is today, he is too old..
where as, Rolle is still fast, no matter he is age..
Furthermore, the age criteria moves from position to position, just as Rod Woodson got older, he moved further back the field…
Secondly, you compare two guys positioned differently, a LB is closer to the LOS, so his reaction (quickness/fastness) is a major part, where as the Safety is further back, has more time to react.
all those factors is why I think Cato is too slow and old, and Rolle is okay for a year or two, just so we buy some time to get a longterm solution!

Losing Bush would be a mistake. We have as close to a known commodity as you can get and you’d rather get draft picks or someone elses more expensive players who may not work in our system? Fargas’ running style means he’ll miss multiple games every year, plus a shortened career and McFadden hasn’t proven his durability or talent.
As for Bush not being enthusiastic about being asked to take reps at FB, would you in his position? He got drafted and wasn’t able to play, got buried in the quagmire and was witness to the 3 ring Raider circus. Anyone would have been frustrated. had he not been injured we never would have been able to sniff his jock let alone draft him. He was the gift of that draft. I just wish we hadn’t been in the position to draft McFadden. Bush would have been more than fine as our RB.

I don’t know how much longer the man-crush lasts. Fargas is a shing example of work ethic and loyalty. I think most, if not all, can agree with that much.
However, his health issues and lack of production is no secret. If they keep Bush on the roster, hes carrying the load by midseason, no matter where he begins it on the depth chart.

First, If after the TB game Bush is still behind Fargas on the depth chart then someone needs to be executed.
Secondly, how are you going to feel when you turn on NFL Network next season and watch highlights of Bush scoring TDs for TB every Sunday while our second or third round pick that we got for him is nowhere to be seen?
We know Bush is good, can the same be said of some second or third round pick? Al’s draft history isn’t exactly stellar, so when he gets a good one like Bush he really should hold on to him.

Rolle may be a bit slow for a safety, but he would sure help the run D. We could sit him on passing downs, but playing essentially a 4-4-3 on run downs looks solid to me. I think he still has a lot left to offer.

I can’t see any likely scenario Crabtrees still there @7. Even with WR taken care of, its hard to pass up (arguably) the best player in the draft, despite his stress fracture.
I really see Curry, Crabs, and Jenkins gone.
Boils down to Raji/Orakpo, IMO, whoevers there.
But you never know.

The perrenial Pro Bowler is 35 but should have another year or two in the tank. He’s the sort of tough and on-target safety the Raiders have been missing for years. As it turns out, they won’t have a chance of signing him now.

David White of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Dawkins has agreed to terms with the Broncos.

Nothing wrong with throwing it out there to see what you might get, although Bush might get a little butt-hurt. I have no worries about Dawkins gonig to the Donks. They are rebuilding with new coaches, and by the time they get competitive he will be long gone. I’d rather have them play Dawkins than develop a young stud safety who will be around when/if Denver improves.

The youth movement likely will mean more Bush next year. Keeping Fargas is good in that he still works hard even if guys start ahead of him. DMAC is not an every down pounder.
They said they want to add some more power running to the mix next year. None of their RBs are more suited than Bush.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see the young guns line-up next year.

HB – Bush
FB – ONeal
3DRB / Slot guy / change-up – DMAC
TE – Miller
WR – Higgins / Chazz
LT – Henderson
LG – Gallery (not so young)
Find a FA / Draft RT, RG and C and you can have the components of a solid offense for years.

Everything comes down to the draft, because free agency means overpaying and we don’t got the cap room to pay anybody except our draft picks. Draft a OT, LB DT and DE with our first four picks and we’re ready to go for next season.

Can’t we just teach Morris to long snap instead of wasting a spot on Condo? Do all teams carry a dedicated long snapper? I know the position needs to be more mobile than a regular center, but CMON, can’t someone perform that job and have some other value too?

Dawkins is a probowl bruiser who doesnt miss many tackles. He is also a spiritual leader of a team. His presence lifts the play of everyone else on the defense (ala Ray Lewis)

yeah in fact most do, and they are usually cherished highly! maybe not in doe, but in gratification..
Stealers would have been out of the PO and not even had won the game, hadnt they got a new LS, when their went down, they lost a major game, only due to the loss of the snapper..
Furthermore, we wouldnt have won the game over JETS if it hasnt been for Condos fantastic snap, right in the arms to Alston, that then did a marvelous job to run the ball, Ive seen that play ~10 times, maybe more, and it never works, mostly because the snap is bad…

We need to build through the draft BUT we will have so sign some free agents. It is a fact of numbers -
RT – C Green (need a starter)
RG – empty (need a starter)
C – empty (need a starter)
WR – ???
DT – Sands (need a starter)
DE – need a starter (per Cable)
SS – empty (need a starter)
FS – Eugene (upgrade?)
We could use 7 starter-quality players even if you say we are set at WR or FS. ONLY ONE ROOKIE DRAFT PICK STARTED 16 GAMES in the last two years (Miller). If we’re incredibly lucky we will land 1-2 rookies ready to start.
We don’t need to overspend in FA but Morris at Center, Green at RT and who, injured McQ at RG is not the way to help JR or DMAC. A veteran C would be great. The offensive line took a step back last year after Newberry left. They need a leader.

What worries me is Brian Dawkins visits Monday I think.
A better player, leader and human you will not find.

Detroit got CB Leigh Bodden and a 3rd rounder for him. Bodden was a 3 yr starter with 6 yrs in the League.

A few days back, Steelers left tackle Marvel Smith swore to me that he’ll be back to full strength — following two back surgeries in as many years — in about a month’s time.
The Raiders and Ravens appear ready to check it out.
Both teams have demonstrated early interest in the former Pittsburgh Pro Bowler, who missed the final 11 weeks of the regular season and the playoffs this year after injuring a disc. Still just 30, Smith says that the problems, finally, have been alleviated.
He injured a disc on his right side in 2007, and says by playing through that, and compensating for weakness that led to numbness in his leg, he developed the injury that firebombed his 2008 campaign. The two surgeries, he maintains, have taken care of the issue.
“I’m doing everything possible to deal with the situation I’m in,” he said Wednesday. “This will be my 10th year, and it’s obvious what I can do on the field. I can do anything they want me to do, and going through this situation, I hope, will be a benefit to me as a player.

Heres the deal on Bush.
Needs to work on protection. Other than that, the kid knows football. Been playing all his life, many positions too.
Catches really well, fumbles sometimes…has the best field vision of anyone currently on the roster, Makes intelligent reads when reading blocks and defenders angles.
Extends runs and has speed to break them too.
Deceptive all around.
Doesn’t look that powerful, doesn’t lok that fast. but breaks / slips takles and almost never tackled for a loss. Falls forward for more yards at end of plays.
Skill? Check.
Power? Check
Hands? Check
Speed? Check
Under used last year big time. Might’ve had to do with his attitude.
Same thing with trade talk if theres a grain of truth there.
Hope not…

L Coles, Ochocinco, and Boldin worth exploring at receiver along w/ LB’s, OLineman, and Safeties. It’s true we can’t fix everything w/ the draft but at this point with a respected coach, young/improving/healthier players, and a couple of promoted players (C Johnson M Henderson) we start off this year much improved without having yet drafted @ #7.

Maybe Al uses it on a running back to replace the one he just let go of.

Bush has skill and gas in the tank. You just don’t get rid of guys like that unless hes a detriment.
So what he didn’t wanna play fullback? He doesn’t know the position, even if it is similar. Involves blocking, and little to no carrying.
Bush not so good at blocking, pretty damn good at carrying.
Jamarcus is a big dude, maybe we’ll try him at DE when Burgess gets injured.

When I watch those clips I see some tough running from Bush, why would you want to trade this guy AL??
I also see the O-line dominating. On the long TD run, Henderson blocks two guys, more like gets in the way but hey it works, and Gallery just blowing up the LB. The later carries he is running through huge holes.

I’m all in favor of trading Bush. If you take a closer look at the Tampa Bay game, which I’ve done multiple times, you’ll see that the preponderance of his runs were, for lack of a better term, lucky flukes. He probably should have been dropped for a loss on most of them. So yeah, I say trade him for whatever we can get.

Al Davis isn’t stupid. Shoping Bush would defintely be a stupid move. We waited two years just to see whether could Bush play. Our wait has been rewarded-he can play. So can Fargas and so can McFadden.
We have a really unusually powerful trio of running backs. A real strength that shouldn’t be diluted.

Don’t trade Bush. He not only offers immediate insurance when McFadden or Fargas go down, but he should be starting… I like Fargas’ style; however, just as we saw last season, Bush will run them down and, then, unlike Fargas, outrun anyone in sight. Bush is a steal salary wise and will be just as, if not more, important to the ‘09 offense as DMAC. Don’t trade Bush.

CABLE, AL, GOD Please don’t Trade Michael Bush. Why give away The 2nd coming of Bo Jackson. Michael bush is not injury prone. Yes he had a terrible injury 2/3 years ago. Bush is not a fluke I can’t believe more people aren’t aware of what he can do. 6ft2in 245 4.5 40. Strong as a bull, really quick feet for a man his size, not a fumbler, don’t not get taken down by arm tackles and has much better vison than Fargas or Dmac, he’s a bigger version of DMac.
I know the Raiders will brick this 1. I can feel it. I don’t blame him for not wanting to play fullback. Sure take 1 for the team and that might have hurt his stock when it comes to a question about Character. I don’t think they explained the roll of the fullback in the Raider Offense. Basically your the runner without a ball. I’m sure it had to do with his agent in his ear telling him not to get tagged as a fullback due to pay rate of a starting FB vs RB.
Hopefully the raiders will realize they have a 24 yr old top 10 pick at running back. Nothing against any of the other backs it’s no secret I prefer Michael “The Turbocharged Hummer” Bush. To DMac and Fargas. I just think he is a the BEST back the raiders have. He proved it. He did the most with the least on that roster. Even had the longest TD run since like Wheatly..
Regardless I’ll have a Michael Bush Jersey from whatever team he play for.
