Raiders re-sign Justin Miller, William Joseph

A couple of familiar faces unexpectedly showed up at Raiders headquarters in Alameda Monday morning for the first day of offseason workouts.
Although the team has not announced it, the Raiders have re-signed former Pro Bowl kick returner Justin Miller and defensive tackle William Joseph, which was reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.
With Johnnie Lee Higgins returning punts and Miller back deep for kickoffs, the Raiders had one of the more dangerous return tandems in the league in 2008.
Look for more details on the Miller and Joseph signings to come from Jerry McDonald.

That’s the problem with an unregistered blog where lots of people like yourself try to discredit others. No one really knows who is posting and what is said. So going back thru the archives is useless. But one does have to be suspect of someone who comes in here professing to know everything about all of us using a name no one recognizes. Seems gutless shallow and cowardly to me frankly.

Brien… the injury risks are real, especially for players that have been hurt before. Not sure why you think that isn’t true…

As far as the “skewed stats” goes, I don’t even know what you’re talking about. Schilens’ stats are accurate, as are Holland’s, Watkins’ and Shields’. Walker’s totals are accurate, too. Everything I posted is on NFL.com; if you disagree feel free to look it all up yourself.

Again, just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it untrue.

Brien… I don’t have a problem with JLH or Schilens. They are both promising young players. My point is that we are relying an awful lot on them, especially when Higgins returns punts, Schilens has only six starts in his entire career, and absolutey nobody behind them can be counted on.

I don’t care if somebody thinks Crabtree’s the answer or not; it’s what I think we should do, but that’s not the issue. You cannot look at that group of receivers objectively and tell me that it’s a solid group that doesn’t need a pretty big upgrade.

And if JLH is 185 pounds then Steve Smith is 210.
    —————————————————–

What I wrote earlier today was this group improved as the season went on. The problem seemed to be Ron Curry. Once Curry was benched and Higgins, Watkins and Shilins started playing the passing game improved. That’s all you can hope for. Adding Arman Shields and hopefully a healthy and motivated “Jivin” and that might not be a bad receiving corp. Once Jamarcus seemed to think his blindside was somewhat being protected he played better as well.

I’ll say this though. I may be older than most of you, I was there at Frank Youell Field in 64′ I had season tickets when the Coliseum opened in 66′, I was at the Heidi game in 68′

Brien is exactly right. Look at Darren Sproales or DeSean Jackson or Walter Payton for that matter. Those guys are tiny, Payton was not that big and they are not injured out there. Shockey is a big guy. He can’t stay on the field. It’s not size at all, it’s the propensity for injury.

    Wassup with you?

Thanks for taking the baton earlier for me. I was slappin fools around all day, but I had to bounce.

  • JHill (Let the Young Guys Play)

What do you think about Morris at C?

Any chance this dude is a diamond in the rough? I really didn’t know squat about him. Then I checked out his pre draft workouts and they were pretty impressive. 33 reps on the bench, and a 5.2 forty. nice other measurables and he was the 7th ranked C coming out of college.

Never paid the guy any attention. Any chance he’s the reason we haven’t signed anyone else, and let Grove walk for nothing?

  • Brien the General

Guys would ya really wanna waste 20 mil on a guy who comes from a spread O? 4 and 5 wr sets impress you?

  • Chris in NY

JLH, Schilens, Walker and Shields = potential.

Some or all (or none) of them could be great this year. Not one sure thing on that list at WR. You can be optimistic, as most fans are, that they will all shine but you can’t objectively say the WR position is locked down right now.

The rumor that the Raiders told Barnes they wouldn’t draft an OT, presumably at No. 7 only, is fine with me. If the Raiders did that it’s only because they had no intention of going OT there in the first place. They wouldn’t change their plans for Barnes and Cable likes to brag about how he doesn’t need top-of-the-draft linemen for his system. Combine that with the fact all 4 DTs from last season are still around and it means my favored group of possible 1st round picks — Crabtree, Maclin, Maualuga — is looking pretty likely right now.

  • JHill (Let the Young Guys Play)

    S&B,

Scott played some base DE last year. May have been in passing situations, I’m not quite sure. But I know he was on that side. At 6’5, I can see him carrying 275 with no problem. I’m sure dude is, and will be in the weight room. I like the idea of him playing over there, and Gunhiem backing him up.

  • Brien the General

Jhill yea slap happy posts all day! Morris? It depends on Cable. I envision a rookie center

  • Brien The General

Guys would ya really wanna spread your O for me? I sure would appreciate it.
