Chiefs take Jackson
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 25th, 2009 at 1:29 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Kansas City’s selection of LSU defensive lineman Tyson Jackson rekindled the possibility that either Eugene Monroe or Andre Smith could fall to No. 7, which would present the Raiders with a pleasant dilemma.
Do you take a body guard for JaMarcus Russell, or a weapon in the passing game?
Unless, of course, you’re thinking about stopping the run or trading back.

What a joke,
April 25th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Fuggin Bey aye?
I’m eating crow feathers and all. I said no way we take WR at all, let alone way over drafted Bey…
April 25th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
i give up-obviously the team has.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Just knew it when dhb ran the fastest 40 he was al’s guy and niners got crabtree
April 25th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
it is disheartening watching other teams pick FOOTBALL players and we get laughed at on all the networks-and rightfully so i might add.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
any targets for next years draft?
April 25th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Ive officially turned in all my Raider stuff to the local city dump. There is no hope in Oakland and I hope the team burns in hell. Goodbye.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
unbelievable. There’s always a chance we go crazy. Janikowski again.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
i hate u al davis u fukin dumbass old man how the hell can u do something this stupid i was getting annoyed with maddenraider but i agree with him I HATE U AL
April 25th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
I will kill the old man myself.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
I guess Al would rather be consistent than right. Looks Al runs the draft and the mystery partner ran FA
April 25th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
I hope Brien enyoys Norco Bob’s seats.
Well, DHB is now my favorite WR.
Welcome to the Nation and good luck, I hope you shine in the Silver and Black.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
i was going to go to a couple games next year but al just fuked it up dam u al
April 25th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
I’m still in shock.
I love my Raiders. And hell, maybe Al knows something we don’t. But I’m severely disappointed to say the least.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
WHAT A JOKE! HA HA HA….JESUS!
April 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Ok . If you want H_ Bey fine, But at 7!!!! We could’ve got him at 20 FFS! Nobody had him that high. Why not trade down? I just dont get it. Well I do its the Raiders.
I’m stunned.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
I love how the site crashed. Almost like the trib knew there would be thousands of pissed off posts for th pick.
Can I at least hope for Brace @ 40?
April 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
I have tried since 1966 when I started watching football with my dad and started to love the Raiders.
I have followed them through thick and thin and have been a season ticket holder most of my adult life, today is a disappointing day.
I am embarassed, I hope I eat crow on this pick of DHB. I am prety sick right now and it really pisses me off.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
James Jett 2.0
April 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Wow. This is our best 1st round pick since Rickey Dudley.
All that screaming for defense, one third down after another. Management must have thought that we loved seeing the defense on the field. Every dropped pass stops the clock and gets us more plays on defense.
Seriously, I could not believe the good fortune that Eugene Monroe fell to us. Best pass-blocking LT. For us, athleticism that fits perfectly with zone blocking for our run game. 10-year fixture starting at LT. Nah, don’t do that.
Good thing H-B is fast. JRuss will not have much time to throw.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
I wonder if the Cleveland trade made it impossible for the Raiders to trade down. I have to believe DHB would have been available later.
LARRY ENGLISH?
April 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
we are doomed to suck as long as Al lives. I have been pleasantly surprised by his patience this offseason, and I thought Cable might be breathing some sense into that crusty old brain of his, but apperntly not. I’m not going to one single game next season. All the excitment building up to yet another let down. Thanks Al!
April 25th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Why Al, Why?
Monroe was there, Monroe!!!!
You didn’t even get the best WR, WTF is wrong with you?!?
April 25th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
We’ll pick a corner with our 2nd rounder now
April 25th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
I can’t wait to hear it from Tom Cable that Heyward-Bey was one of his 4 target guys all along. It’s coming, I can feel it. At Least the Chargers didn’t select Rey M.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Two things struck me:
1) Al just made DHB at least 10 million richer by taking him at 7 instead of trading down to pick him in the 20’s which would have made more sence.
And DHB STILL looked pissed at being selected by the Raiders!
2) The report out of the Crabtree camp that a family member breathed a huge, audible word of relief that the Raiders didn’t select Crabtree.
That should tell you everything you need to know about the Raiders and how they are currently viewed by the rest of the NFL.
Just. Freaking. Pathetic.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Hay O had to leave right as the draft started…. what did you guys do while i was gone WTF!!!!! DHB are you kidding me
April 25th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
UNFRUCKIN—BELIEVABLE…..WE HAD A CHANCE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS OFFENSE AND NOW WE HAVE AT LEAST MOVED BACKWARD 1 YEAR ….AT LEAST…THIS GUY IS NOT READY TO GO ON DAY ONE…………..HE CANT EVEN HANG ON TO THE BALL…………..13 TOUCHDOWNS….AND NOW ACROSS THE BAY A CONSTANT REMINDER OF WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN……………REMEMBER WHEN THE WARRIORS PASSED ON KOBE??????????????????????HERE WE GO AGAIN……………………………UNFRUKIN BELIEVABLE……………..
April 25th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
This guy is not even the best WR in the draft?! And he’s not going to help us THIS year. Stupid!!!!
April 25th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
It looks like M Johnson will be available at 40th!!!
April 25th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
I’m beside myself. I shouldn’t be as pissed off as I am right now. We just embarrassed ourselves.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
i told my gramma al better beef up his security cuz its gonna be some people out for his head
April 25th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
This site crashed and so did the Raider Organization, seems ironic doesn’t it?
April 25th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
GRaider
I know. At that point your thinking Crab or Monroe. No problem. But H B? Man even he prob thinks we’re crazy.
L. B Johnson in 1964 said “How much longer are they gonna keep taking this s*%t we’re shoveling? Forever, man.
Unbelievable.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Where’s BHP??? Wanna hear his take
April 25th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Talk about throwing away a pick huh? At least we don’t have to wander if he is going to be a bust or not, he was never any good to begin with. The only reason anybody has ever even heard of this idiot is because he ran a fast 40 at the combine.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
We passed on Monroe, Crabtree, Raji, Orakpo, for Heyward Bey.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
R8,
You didn’t miss much. Funkkkkk, WTF, why DHB?!?
I will kill you Al. let finish my bong hit and I’m coming after your a$$.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
I say we give Det,AW,Huff,Burgess and Gracias wife for there next pick..there running out of money i hope
April 25th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
TB will take the QB. Hahaha. No QB for the Donkies.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
No No No on Bey. AD has just emasculated Cable. Another year not to look forward too. We had a shot at the best OLT and we didn’t take it. This is what happens when a senile old out of touch owner runs the show.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Well, since we didn’t get a true possession wideout, and instead got another “project receiver”, we need to go Brace, Moala, or Hood in the second round.
This is stupefying.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Dell-i am 100% with you.i’m stunned and pissed.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Why would the Jets jump to 5 instead of 7? My bet is Al told them to take a hike. I am so pissed off right now, as are a lot of you. No disrespect to DHB, but the Raiders have so many needs we should have tried to trade down for more picks. I don’t buy into the philosophy that better WR’s will make teams have to pass on us more instead of run. We are so screwed.
Look what the Texans have been doing lately in the draft. They are being patient and building a defense. Look what the Browns have been doing for themselves.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
dear god, shoot me now.
can you say james jet 2.0?
i can’t wait for cable’s body language.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Wow. What a serious disappointment. Has Al Davis not learned about receivers who can’t catch the ball? His love affair with size and speed are mindboggling.
I would have taken the chance on Crabtree, regardless of what people say about him being a diva. Michael Irvin was a diva. But he caught the damn ball and helped his team win Super Bowls.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Wow!
Even though I knew if after tghe combine, I still say WOW!
Herman Edwards is the only one I heard that likes the pick. He rationalized it very well, but why not trade back?
Fugg!
April 25th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
I hope DHB is succesful. I will root for him as hard as i can to be a productive wideout. I think he can be a very good player, but he’s raw. This will be interesting. Not worth throwing a tantrum over.
I will be interested to see what we do with our next picks, especially with number 40. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade go down eventually to move around in the draft.
April 25th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
I am just destroyed! …crushed……DHB was not even dominant in college! How is he going to step in and contibute right away?
He ain’t….he’s most likely a bust.
Al makes the SAME mistakes OVER and OVER! Forget SPEED just for the sake of SPEED !
April 25th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
I agree, why not trade back? I’m not gonna argue with the pick, but we could have gotten him later, and maybe have gotten some more picks. Trey Wingo is still a retard by the way.

This koolAide hit the spot.
You guys are crazy, DHB is the best WR this year.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
I think the whole AFC West is getting laughed at today.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
I don’t really even have any hope for the 2nd rd. I think I am so jaded right now b/c we didn’t get a top player at his position.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
The Comedian IS NOT amused.
Anyone, I mean ANYONE would have been better.
Monroe, Orapko, Crabtree, Raji, the USC linebackers, even Maclin and I could deal with it. But Bey at 7 is an absolute disgrace.
How in the world does Cable and the organization spin this nonsense?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
The more things stay the same, the more things stay the same:
Is this any thing like taking Jesse Hester and leaving Jerry Rice on the table?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
A Herm Edwards endorsement on a player does not thrill me.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
If we’d traded down to the 20’s and got a 3rd and made the pick I would’ve said yeah! But at 7?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Lefty
I just am still stunned, I believe it I just don’t or ever will understand .
April 25th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
LOL O,
I was about to go there in a minute. Haven’t hit the OG yet though!
DHB is going to be a STUD for us and prove all the Al haters wrong! 6′3, 40 inch vert, and 4.3 speed!
I love it!
April 25th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
This pick is as close to the Rickey Dudley fiasco as it comes.
No one is as disappointed as I am. This IMO is CRAZY. They better know what they are doing because I’m ready to decline my season tickets.
Big Al’s fascination with speed has hit an all time low. This was stupid………period
To be honest I’ve never seen the kid play and at this point don’t want to. Al Davis is trying to show that he knows something no one else does and I’m afraid this one is really going to cost him dearly I am pissed.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
This sucks guys. I’m sure you all are in the same boat as me getting calls from all your friends laughing about our pick.
What was Al thinking on that one? Man I was hoping they would say Monroe.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
AL loves making reaches just because he wants to show the rest of the world he was smarter than them. He rarely makes the traditional pick. REACH REACH REACH….dumb old man, learn to TRADE down when you are picking a guy who nobody else wants at that pick.
TRADE down and get your guy and PICKS…stupid!
April 25th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
does this mean Holland or Watkins is out?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
thank god we only have 4 more picks.that way we only have to look like fools 4 more times THIS draft.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Ha O i think your getting closer to that OD point be carefull
April 25th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Have the usual suspects come out from behind their rocks yet to spin this?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
at least the rest of the division is picking dumb picks too
April 25th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
DarthPirate, it’s not that people don’t hope DHB can be successful. It’s that you don’t use high picks to take a chance on someone who has been unreliable. You know you’re going to pay money to a #7 overall pick. Therefore, you take somebody who has proven they can be useful.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Where is Carlos Francis these days?
I remember him having a nice 40 time as well…
April 25th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
BTW, this was definitely Cables pick….LOL.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
WTF!!!!!!?????????????????
April 25th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
LOL @Cable’s pick
April 25th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
This is why we suck every FuKin year wtf!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????
April 25th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Beauty of this: When Cable is fired, he’ll be blamed for today’s pick, too. Yeh, it’s Cable who likes the speedsters. Just like it’s Rob Ryan who likes man defense.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
It never fails…Al Davis has done it again. With Monroe and Crabtree on the board…Heyward-Bey? Somebody make me feel good about this pick please.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
LOL@ Davis will blame Cable for this when he dumps him
April 25th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Guys, where’s the usual suspects? I want to hear their spin. I need the laugh.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
The Denver Broncos are having a very good draft. Ayers and Moreno two great gets.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
atleast we wont have to play Rey for the next 10 years
April 25th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
can’t argue with MR on the last 2 comments.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Copenhagan, like he won’t? At least his loyalists will.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Notwithstanding Gallery, OL is about the most dependable use of a high draft pick. Monroe has the skills to produce now.
WRs traditionally do not produce for a few years. Marquis Colsten at New Orleans a couple years ago was a rarity. at least Crabtree is a polished.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
I wish I wasn’t out of weed right now.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
i was starting to think al was getting better last year i wanted al to die this year i softened up on that now i want him to die again
April 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
at least 2 teams wanted to trade down. instead we take a late 1st/early 2nd rnd pick with 7. hell, as far as i am concerned the raiders could have have traded their pick straight across of a mid/late teen pick & it would have been a good deal. could have got maclin ot b-h much later than they picked & saved millions.
not even going to go into the players they passed over.
i am really getting tired of fkn als hardon for speed at the expense of actual pro football skills.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Al Davis wanted Crabtree, no doubt. But, it’s Cable’s call…That’s what the spin will be when Davis cans Cable.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Come on Al, trade back into the first round and take the fastest DB on the board!! You know you want it, pull the trigger you crazy diamond!!
Moron!
April 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
The only saving grace, if there can be such a thing, is that the AFC West have ALL not greatly improved. And Chiefs and Charges dont have a 2nd round picks

Agreed. Welcome Darius. No problem with him being a Raider but we could’ve got him later and cheaper.
Ridiculous choice. Did you hear them laugh when it was announced?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
RM I am sure he will. I am actually laughing my ass off right now, because what you said there is pretty much true and tragically comic.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Hey 24 -
Nobody really knew who Asomugha was when he was drafted either. He turned out OK.
Let’s hope The President of the General Partner is crazy like a fox and not just plain crazy.
Hope that helps…

well i have fully recovered from puking. If we get Mike Mitchell, Mauluga, Oher, Mack, I still consider this a good day

April 25th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Freddy B took some subtle shots at Al Davis on 1140 in Sacramento last year, abut Al prioritizing speed over football skills. Any coincidence that Crabtree won the Belitnikoff award?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
i would rather have maclin
April 25th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
MR Maybe Al will claim that he wanted B.J. Raji to stop the run but Cable demanded more speed.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Crabtree was there for our taking what the hell happened, I would have even taken Raji or Orakpo but DHB…..why??? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????
April 25th, 2009 at 3:10 pm

April 25th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
man, my stomach hurts.
i can’t wait for the “we wanted him the whole time and were willing to trade up for him too.” line.

Darrius Heyward-Bey
Height: 6-15/8 | Weight: 210 | 40-Time: 4.30
Darrius Heyward-Bey | Maryland Terrapins
Official Bio
Stars
Strengths:
A smooth, fluid athlete…Long strider with rare speed…Explosive with great acceleration and a burst…Quick and agile…Terrific height and bulk with long arms…Excellent leaper…Nice body control and ball skills…Tough and not afraid to work the middle…Vertical threat who can separate…Also a dangerous weapon on reverses…Great work ethic…Could also contribute as a return man…Still has a ton of upside.
Weaknesses:
Is inconsistent catching the ball and does not have great natural hands…Questionable instincts and awareness…Still very raw as a route runner…Not much wiggle and won’t make people miss…Doesn’t break a lot of tackles…Average strength…Marginal blocker…Has little or no special teams experience…Wasn’t real productive..Workout Warrior?
Notes:
A three-year starter in the ACC…Was a track All-American in high school…Redshirted in 2005…A two-time All-ACC selection…Featured prominently in the Maryland record books, ranking second in career receiving yards, third in receptions and is tied for third in touchdown catches…Was grossly underutilized in the Terrapins offense and the quarterback play left much to be desired as well…Dynamic playmaker who is a threat to score every time he touches the ball…Intriguing prospect with top-flight measurables but might be a better athlete than football player…Boom or Bust type who will require some patience and development but he has all the tools to be a #1 wideout in the NFL.

April 25th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
There you go Nnamdi Al got you a receiver. Careful what you ask for.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Um guys… maybe no one wanted to trade. the only player worth it was sanchez. just maybe the raiders didnt like the attitude of crabtree, and mack is just another higgins. if you’re worried about getting the third best receiver in the COUNTRY, you’re trippin’
April 25th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
I’m here getting laughed at by my son’s friend who is a Donkey fan and he is yelling for Rey, and the donkeys select Ayers. Talk about a quiet room, should I hand it to him, I can’t believe they let Rey go playing a 3-4 defense.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
We needed to trade for oher at 19 before the eagles, oh well…

Comedian, are you joking? (no pun intended) Just because Asomugha wasn’t a big name doesn’t mean he was limited to one athletic skill, as Darius-Bey is.. Aso was a lockdown corner at Cal. Either Al ate his wheaties that morning, or Aso was B. Allen’s pick.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
If Oher drops out of the first round and in our laps and we don’t take him, I’m going to throw my TV out the freaking window.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Maybe they’re not taking Oher, and if that’s the case, then trade up NOW and take Oher!
April 25th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
It was it is. Al makes the picks and we have to deal with them. I will wait to see the guy play before I talk my s@#$.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
6′-2″ – 210 4.3 speed, I like the pick, just not at 7. Would have liked to have received an additional pick to move down. Maybe there were no offers to move.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Wow, those DHB numbers are not good. It is the ACC, but 13 TDs?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Al Davis is really starting to piss me the f*** off….I was gonna buy season tickets but now f*** that he won’t get a dime from mr. By the way good luck DHB hopefully this pick doesnt set us back 7 years ( it will at least 3)
April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
I can’t wait for dhb to drop his first td pass against the chargers . Some people were saying cable wouldn’t let him draft dhb ha ha no one tells al what to do.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Coach Cable’s reaction:

April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Greg Papa – “Late in the 4th quarter, Raiders trail the Chargers 24-20 here on Monday night. Russell back to pass, breaks free, fires deep. IT. IS. DROPPED! Oh no! Heward-Bey beat Jammer by 10 yards but could not make the catch. Here comes Lechler for another punt.”
April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Well, as usual, a pivotal day in Raider football where Al, unfortunately, does NOT prove me wrong. Catch up with you guys later. I can’t wait to come back tonight and read the usual spin from the loyalists. Funnier than a Chris Rock show.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Actually, Asomugha was a safety at Cal, but that’s neither here nor there when it comes to ddiscussing DHB.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
MR Aso was a safety at Cal.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
so, does anyone see a chance for maualuga to drop to 40?
or any potential for the raiders to trade up for him?
Heyward-Bey was a pathetic pick.
wow.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
I’ve been pushing for Heyward-Bey for a long time on here…..just not at no. 7. I fully supported trading down to get him, but I think we could have done better at no. 7. This pick surprised even me, and I want this guy on the team. He didn’t show much emotion when he was picked. I wonder if he didn’t want to come here. Has there been any interview of this guy about being picked yet?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
I have to support this pick… I hope to freaking god that Al is smarter than all of us and he knows something we don’t. I want Heyward-Bey to succeed. If this works out, it’s going to be awesome having two receivers who can torch defensive backs.
Don’t worry… be happy…
April 25th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
LTR- EAXACTLY. there probably weren’t any offers after sanchez was gone.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Guys, I’m not thrilled with the pick either. I would’ve preferred Maclin if we went WR, but I DIDN’T want Crabtree…check out this article on him, plus Polian’s comments…interesting read.
http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/43659322.html
Excerpts…
Attitude questions
Citing a source, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Thursday that the Browns were so put off by Crabtree’s “world-revolves-around-me attitude” that coach Eric Mangini went looking for another receiver.
The Rams ELIMINTATED him from consideration after he turned off some of their officials with a similar approach, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
“He came across as a little goofy and kind of ARROGANT,” said an executive in personnel for the Raiders. “Just a different guy.”
Declaring for the draft two years early, the 21-year-old Crabtree made his announcement Jan. 13 during a news conference at an upscale hotel in his hometown of Dallas that was orchestrated by Deion Sanders.
Weak crop
Earlier in the week, President Bill Polian of the Indianapolis Colts, an NFL scout since 1978, called this the weakest draft he could remember.
“As you know, I never complain about the draft,” Polian said. “But this one . . . whew.”
Because there are so few impact players, the top half of the first round could become one of the most unpredictable ever. SSeveral scouts said there’s NO SUCH THING AS A REACH IN THIS DRAFT BECAUSE ALMOST NOBODY STANDS OUT.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
i am so pissed at Al, damm it. This team is not going anywhere with this old man at the helm. this is not a F****** track meet , this is football. No crabtree, no monroe, no raji. Are you for real?? Please go away Al, please.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Introducing the new james jett DHB!!!!
April 25th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
What a waste of a golden opportunity. Eugene Monroe was there for the taking and, Al selects the track star with questionable hands – Brilliant, just fukin brilliant. O one hand we could have had a 10 year starter who fits our system and on the other Al picks what – another James Jett. we are doomed with our current leadership. I guess we now know for sure that Cable has no pull and is nothing more than a “yes” man hand puppet. I hope you enjoy having Al’s hand up-yo-a$$ Tom Cable. You should have just gone to Washington with Mora. I know bring back Kwame Harris. Maybe you can re-cycle him. Bey – What a sad joke. Al, they are laughing at you – not with you. You are the joke.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:17 pm

MR
Asomugha played Safety at Cal, but that doesnt change the fact that this was a BS pick. Come on Al, i defend you tooth and nail and u give Darrius Fukkin Heyward-Bey??? He just slapped every single Raiders fan collectively in the face and pissed on any chance that we have of winning the division.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm

April 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
GOD, people. He’s still the THIRD RATED WR IN THE FREAKING WORLD!!! you guys are acting like we picked another Chaz Schillens in the first round. normally i just read the post, and watch you guys b!tch, but this is ridiculous. are you people even fans?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Any chance rey rey is their in 2rd?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm

April 25th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Crabtree looked like he was gonna cry. Plus he was wearing a pink shirt. Pu$$y.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Real MR -
No joke. No one thought Nnamdi would be THIS good. If you did, maybe you should have been running the draft for the last few years.
Let’s hope DHB is good. If not, we can always draft another track star next year.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Who’s better?
Russell to Miller.
Or
Stafford to Pettigrew.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
i dont even know what to say
April 25th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
You guys are funny! I am upset too! Heres the thinking! They want to develop J Mac slowly so get the fastest guys run deep routes every play J Mac does’nt pass all game and it opens up the run! With the three backs we got We rotate every series! That way we keep the sorry D off the field and keep them fresh! LMAO
April 25th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
Where is the Raider Nation Collective when you need ‘em?
April 25th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Glad to se this place is upand running again.
Why AL? Why?
Farrrk!
Embarassing.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
It’s not that Heyward-Bey wont eventually be a player. It’s the fact that we could’ve gotten him and muh more by trading down. Unless there was someone else who was interested as high as 10-15. I seriously doubt it.
I blasted the kid and Big AL because what I saw on film was a very underdeveloped player. How lng will it take to get this kid in the lineup and just think of the pressure he’ll be under to perform. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
Now if he comes in as a rookie and catches 40+ passes and 5+ TD’s I’ll forgive it. The only thing I saw that Liked when I saw him was his redzone ability he has a legitimate verticle and attacks the ball in flight. Other than that Big Al’s trying to get a Randy Moss in the rough.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Bush29:
I’m a big Michael Bush fan. I assume we start him and start McFadden in the slot, switching McFadden to RB as a change-up.
As for today’s pick, it’s tough enough for WRs to transition to the NFL. All the DBs are fast, so it’s hard to separate based on 40 speed. At #7, however, you expect a WR without listed weaknesses. Questionable hands/dropped balls is as big a weakness as a WR can have.
When KC reached for Jackson as a 3-4 system fit, and NY traded for Sanchez to fill a need, we had the amzingly good fortune of having the elite pass-blocking LT fall into our lap. IT ALWAYS STARTS UP FRONT.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:26 pm
So does anyone think Rey will be there in the second?
what teams do you guys see as being interested in him?
Heyward-Bey is pathetic.
here’s to hoping im wrong.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
And now look at what the Browns have done in the last 2 years, Joe Thomas and now Mack. How are the Browns smarter than we are. Yeah, they need a WR but if you hit on these linemen, you have them for a decade or more, not with WR’s
April 25th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Robiskie in the second
April 25th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Well, we all knew this would happen, Al Davis has lost his mind, he is an idiot and I am glad I did not renew my club level season tickets. Dominant linemen win the war in the trenches and Al not only goes after another WR but one of the worst ones available. Al Davis has single handedly run the Raiders into the ground and will continue to destroy this franchise with these kind of picks.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
We should have passed on DHB and taken Barden in the 2nd
April 25th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
two WR’s with the first two picks?
i doubt it.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Let’s be fair, to compare this James Jett is just wrong. Everyone had Heyward-Bey going in the 1st rnd just NOT that high. I liked Percy Harvin better.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
although, Al did just make the dumbest pick of his life.
Janikowsi was a smarter move than DHB.
at least he started the next season.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
just kidding X, rey rey could help save the day, don’t see him at 40 though
April 25th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
TRADE UP FOR REY!
that’d be wonderful.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I like the pick…. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2009/profiles/darrius-heyward-bey?id=80427
April 25th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
And with the 7th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders make the worst draft pick in the history of the NFL Draft.
This is no better than giving Javon Walker $10 million per year. It’s the same thing. Maybe worse.
This essentially kills anything good the Raiders did this off-season.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
The only way this gets better is if we dump the dead wood for a can of soup.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Now I know how Dolphins fan felt after Ginn’s name was called.
April 25th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Al is still dreaming of the Warren Wells and Cliff Branches but the difference betwwen them and DHB is they had very good hands to go with their deep speed and DHB does not.
April 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
its about character and crabtree and maclin had none, just bling
