Transcript of a conference call with third-round draft pick Matt Shaughnessy:
Q: Did you visit Alameda?
Shaughnessy: No I have not.
Q: Have you heard from the Raiders at all?
Shaughnessy: I talked to them, you know, at the game and the combine so I’ve been in contact with them.
Q: Are recent injuries a concern, or in the past?
Shaughnessy: I think they’re all behind me. I played this season, you know, I got through it. Right now, I feel the best I’ve ever felt so . . .
Q: Numbers down, how much of that the broken leg?
Shaughnessy: I don’t know, I’d say it’s a little bit and you know, I don’t know, I played for four years. I think people like, I established at Wisconsin so you know, things happen, people run other ways.
Q: Know anything about the Raiders and your chances?
Shaughnessy: Well I’m not sure but I talked to Coach Board and he said he wants me to come in and give it a shot, you know, and compete for playing so that’s what I’m going to do, come in and give my hardest.
Q: At your best, what do you bring to the table?
Shaughnessy: I think my speed and athleticisim and my motor.
Q: Areas to improve?
Shaughnessy:I don’t know, you know. I’m just looking forward to getting in there and learning from the people that are there and you know just getting better as a player.
Q: Long night when not drafted on first day?
Shaughnessy: It wasn’t too bad, you know. I sort of wanted this whole process to be a surprise you know. Obviously, me and my agent talked about certain things I knew I’d be going you know today but you know I really wasn’t too worried.
Q: Who is your agent?
Shaughnessy: Rich Rosa at Eastern Athletic Sports.
Q: Left end or right side?
Shaughnessy: I played both and I played a little tackle in a three-man front technique personnel.
Q: Board give any specifics?
Shaughnessy: Not yet probably a little when I meet him we’ll talk more about that stuff.
Q: Any Raider memories?
Shaughnessy: Growing up, you know, I watched as much football, I never had a favorite team, so I just always watched any team. Obviously, it’s my favorite team now.
Q: Where were you when drafted?
Shaughnessy: I was at home with my parents and friends.
Q: Can you help the run defense, did Board say as much?
Shaughnessy: He hasn’t talked to me about it yet but I feel like I can help out with that, definitely.

As much as I wanted to see efforts in place to stop the run, after reading this, it looks as if thats not going to happen this year.

HAHA… too funny, this guy is going to make more money in the next year than you will likely in the next twenty! He’s being interviewed, over the phone no-less, and he’s probably just 21 years old. When you were 21 you were likely studying for your GED in night school and the interview you had to give was to the police department.

As I said when I did my BS mock draft…..its the best way to go but it wont happen. It didnt happen for both you and I regarding the raiders stopping the run. I told all Al would reach big time because none of the projected players by analysts would be on Al’s board. Told ya Raji and Craptree would get passed on by Al. It sad though WE CANT STOP THE RUN STILL. I’m miffed at it

I can live with DHB as i can live with McFadden and Russell didnt want any of the guys, but heck now they are Raiders…
Mike Mitchell seems to have it, I posted a youtube clip just as we picked him, he seems to be okay, him at SS and Branch at FS thats okay..
I still wanted more for us trading down in the 2nd… we should ahve had a 5th round pick IMO too long between our last picks…
Furthermore, I wanted Antoine Caldwell in 3rd, so Russell had some protection. this Matt fella is just not necessary and he thats the pick that pizzes me off the most…
the WR in 4th and the OLB makes me shake my head, we need DT and ILB…
