Miller out following sports hernia surgery

Tight end Zach Miller had offseason sports hernia surgery and is probably about a month away from taking the field, he said following practice.

Others who did not practice included defensive end Derrick Burgess, fullback Oren O’Neal, wide receivers Arman Shields and Javon Walker and center Samson Satele.

More information to come later following interview sessions with selected players and coach Tom Cable.

JAVON WALKER IS A USELESS LOSER…cut him.

    DK,

    lol

  • juice6998

Well at the very least a unit of DHB, Schillens & JLH is interesting. JW was the most to lose by not being ready to play.

  • 01rdrfan

NO!!! I hope he comes back healthy and ready to play. At least it gives JR more time to work with the receivers. Didn’t want to hear this. Walker better get his A$$ back on the field, you know!!! What a complete waste of time space and money he has been to us so far!!!!

  • juice6998

I will say that having a healthy (mentality included) JW only makes the offense better and gives guys like DHB & JLH someone to feed off of.

Didn’t Arman Shields get injured in mini-camps 12 months ago? How is this guy still unable to practice? Waste of roster space, I would rather keep Todd Watkins or Marcel Reece than this candy-cane.

    Jerry was on ESPN now.

I can only think Walker is around so other AFC west teams dont pick him up.
Why else would he be taking up space collecting cash either way

No he was Adam’s lead blocker way back.

he did a terrible job blocking Adam from the apple tree… we’ve been screwed ever since!

    Remember this one?

Adam “She went down to the river to bath.”

    Per Cam Inman:
“Darren McFadden looked like the best player on the field in the raiders first minicamp practice of 2009″

That is encouraging news if you want to see Fargas sit. I am thinking McFadden is gonna be on the field for at least 90% of the snaps this season.

  • RaiderRockstar

bruce crapkowski kept dropping the center snaps today according to David White. Plus AW is on the way out

I agree with BBB. give Danny Southwick a shot

  • RaiderRockstar

    Danny Southwick

    Ht: 6-4 Wt: 215
    Position: QB
    Birthplace: Provo, UT

    2008- Played for Louisville Fire

    2007- Played at Occidental
2006- Played at Dixie State College (now a division 2, 4-year school)

2000- signed with BYU, never attended

    Player Bio:
    2008

Late into the season, Danny was signed to the Louisville Fire arena 2 football team and quickly took over the starting role. Southwick threw 15 touchdowns in only 98 attempts on the year, culminating in a 19/26, 6 touchdown performance against Peoria in the final game of the season. Louisville’s 62 points vs. Peoria were the highest score that Louisville produced all season.
    College

Transferred numerous times in college after signing with Brigham Young out of High School. Southwick made stops at Oregon State, Dixie, and the University of Utah, before finishing his Senior season at Occidental College.

Had a Quarterback rating of 174.12 and a 67% completion percentage during senior season at Occidental College.

Had a successful career in Junior College with a 15-3 as a starter at Dixie State College. Southwick’s Junior College career was highlighted by a 506 yard, 5 touchdown performance against Arizona Western, that earned Southwick the NJCAA national offensive player of the week.

    ***

He was impressive at the BYU Pro Day in March. Raider scouts were present. Panthers worked him out on 4/20. Raiders worked him out on 4/22.

  • IndianaRaider

If McFadden’s turf toe isn’t an every year deal like Woodson’s was, then yeah, we can expect to see him on the field more. Let’s hope it’s good and healed and he’s ready to go this year.

16… I was wondering the same thing. No mention of him so far.

the donks let Tatum Bell, Michael Pittman, Cory Boyd and Selvin Young walk this offseason.

Then signed Darius Walker, J.J. Arrington, Correll Buckhalter and LaMont Jordan to replace them.

    Is that considered improvement?

Knowshon Moreno is going to look like a pro bowler in camp compared to these clowns!

  • raidergo

damn I was looking forward to jw playing with a chip on his shoulder i guess not. whats wrong with satele?

  • Voldemort

Bush is our best RB. McFadden is a hellavu a threat as a gadget back/change of pace back. Fargas should be kept strictly in a back up role. If we are serious about giving every team our best shot at winning the game, then this is how we will use them. It will piss me off, but not surprise me however, if Al plays the loyalty game and give Fargas the bulk of the carries reguardless of the outcome. That is what he did last year, and will probably do again.

  • Tooz loves Baby Ruth

40% DMC as RB, 40% Bush, 20% Fargas/Rankin; DMC plays Slot or WR 20% of time.

More time for the prospects to get some work with Miller out. Gonna love it with the two TE sets this year becoming a bigger part of the offense. Should help smooth any early issues with Barnes/Henderson

Walker loses nothing. His money is guaranteed whether he plays or not, whether he’s on the roster or not. He still gets his money. Another brilliant contract by Idiot Al.

I think it’ll be more like this:

    DMC – 60 percent
    Bush – 30 percent
Fargas (or Rankin) – 10 percent

providing they can all stay healthy

The first of two Friday practices are over. Here are the initial impressions and news flashes before coach Tom Cable meets with media at 2 p.m.

No. 1 — Four-time Pro Bowl fullback Lorenzo Neal is a Raider.

He’s wearing No. 41, with running back Louis Rankin dropping to No. 40 on the numerical roster. He didn’t have any carries, but then, none of the fullbacks were caught running the ball.

Oren O’Neal is out as he continues to recover from major knee surgery. Luke Lawton worked with the first-team offense.

No. 2 — Darrius Heyward-Bey, welcome to the NFL.

The first time he lined up against Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, quarterback JaMarcus Russell went right to him.

Asomugha read the No. 7 overall pick’s eyes, jumped the in route and dropped a sure interception in front of Heyward-Bey.

Lined up later against Darrick Brown, DHB found it much easier to run a deep go route and pull in a sideline pass from Bruce Gradkowski.

DHB dropped one pass, a high Russell missile that bounced off both his hands. He caught a similiar pass later, and made one outstanding catch where he jumped in full stride, caught the ball going away and got both feet in as he fell out of bounds.

    No. 3 — Injury list.

Defensive end Derrick Burgess is out with an undisclosed injury. Tight end Zach Miller is out after having sports hernia surgery last month and will miss at least another month.

Wide receivers Javon Walker and Arman Shields are also out with undisclosed injuries. New center Samson Satele is still recovering from minor knee surgery he had before joining the Raiders.

No. 4 — The offensive line.

The first team featured left tackle Mario Henderson, left guard Robert Gallery, center John Wade (for Satele), right guard Cooper Carlisle and right tackle Cornell Green.

New left tackle Khalif Barnes was second team, all the time.

No. 5 — On to safety.

The first team defense had Hiram Eugene at free safety and Tyvon Branch at strong safety. Michael Huff and Mike Mitchell were second team.

Here comes Cable. Five more observations when he’s done, including some explanations on the injuries.
