Fox: TE Foschi back on roster

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 at 4:15 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Fox sports reports the Raiders have agreed to terms with tight end John Paul Foschi, who played with the Raiders from 2004 through 2006 as a fullback, tight end and on special teams.

The Raiders have the first of three minicamps starting May 19, and Zach Miller is out following sports hernia surgery.

Tight ends currently on the roster are Tony Stewart, Darrell Strong, sixth-round draft pick Brandon Myers and undrafted free agent Chris O’Neill.

Actually given the qb situation in Oakland, the Raiders have decided to do whats never been done,…never attempt a pass,…Russell has made it perfectly clear hes no NFL qb,…only chance at winning is start Garcia game one,..period.

I guess I have to say it nicer. Norco, stop your whining.

  7. SinceFrankYouellField Says:

As far as I am concerned, the writing was on the wall re: Rob Ryan when I watched and interview where he was asked what things meant the most to him. He answered, something like, “Beer, good food, and football. Oh yeah, and I have a wife and a couple kids, uh, so, uh, them too. Talk about a guy with his whole sense of priorities out of order. In my mind, he instantly became a fat, self-gratifying slob from whom the Raiders defensive players would likely learn little….because, by his own admission, what really matters to him are swilling suds and stuffing his pie-hole. When he is done, he might have time to devote to the organization that pays for all his beer and pizza……and then, if his obese can isn’t too tired…..he might sit on it on the porch and watch the kids toss a football back and forth!

  8. The Big Banana Says:

Any Rob Ryan quotes from his new digs? Has he proclaimed Wright and McDonald the best CB tandem in the NFL yet?

  10. SnB Defense Says:

    Norco,

Jeff Garcia is a below average QB WITH NO UPSIDE. Couldn’t find a starting job anywhere in the league. Couldn’t make the playoffs last year in Tampa. Been on 5 or 6 different teams.

I’ll tell ya what…I would rather see the Raiders go 5-11 with Russell than 7-9 with Jeff Garcia. Garcia is not a winning QB anymore.

Garcia would be a total disaster on the field. Only in Oakland…do fans think they can win with guys like:

Schroeder, Evans, Hostetler, George, W. Wilson, Mirer, George, Gannon, Collins, Brooks, McCown, Culpepper and now Garcia.

Gotta roll with Russell and let him continue to develop. Gotta roll with the ups and the downs…veteran stop gap QBs rarely work…for every Kurt Warner in Arizona….I’ll give you Jon Kitna in Detroit, Damon Huard in K.C, Gus Frerrotte, Brian Griese and on and on and on.

Hey USC fans…looks like you are the NE Patriots of College football.

When are they going to take your championships away?

    ^^^^
Thats what I’m wondering….how come the Reggie Bush cheating scandal is taking so long to come to an end and why is USC not being punished for obvious violations??

The NCAA is rigged and corrupt thats why and they know they need USC to stay afloat…..

  12. VT Raider Says:

If it keeps the chains moving, I’m all for a short passing game. Combined with the potential of the running game, could just be a grind it out team. I would like Norco to say 1 positive thing about the Raiders. And I don’t mean “I’m positive the Raiders are going to stink”.

  13. SnB Defense Says:

As for the defense…the Raiders have no better answer to give right now than to place all the blame on Ryan and his assistants. That’s actually unlike Cable to cast blame so readily like that. Anyway, the strategy was to build outside in. They basically left the defensive roster in tact and are hoping that its existing players play better. That allowed them to pass over the elite defensive talent in the draft and/or free agency and focus on skill position players.

Cable, Marshall and Davis know that there its 50/50 whether the run defense really improves. They are prepared to accept another bottom 5 finish with the run defense and try to fix it next year. A strategy that says…lets try to get the opponent away from our weakness..is not fixing the problem…its masking it. Hopefully Sands/Warren/Kelly can maintain their weight improvements and step up their tempos.

Rob Ryan may have been bad…but he wasn’t coaching his style of defense either. He’s doing a 3-4 in Cleveland and tried to implement that here in Oakland but Davis rebuffed that. It is what it is right. Just have to hope they play better…if not…they will try to fix it in the draft or, more likely, free agency.

  18. Nnamdi21 Says:

WALKER MUST BE PUNISHED BY THE RAIDERS FOR HIS SECRET SURGERY?

“Cable’s admission that the situation is “a little bit uncommon” is an understatement.

Though players have a right to mistrust team doctors and often do take matters into their own hands, in this specific instance the Raiders have to punish Javon Walker, if for no other reason than to send a message to the rest of the team that this type of behavior is unacceptable. The coaches were going through their preparation for mini-camp and didn’t even realize that one of their projected key contributors wouldn’t be available. Maybe the Raiders don’t want to take any action against Walker because it would place more attention on an already embarrassing situation, but that would be the wrong reason to let this pass. The information is already out there and it is now incumbent on the Raiders to make sure something like this never happens again.”

    >>If Tim stands by what he said, the media has to at least ask Al Davis about it. Of course Al will deny it.>>
Al Davis will deny it because he isn’t a racist you moron.

    >>But he also denied that there was a rift between him and Kiffin when the stories first broke early in ‘08,>>
Um, no he didn’t. He never gave any information to media denying a rift. Another MaddenRetard lie debunked.

    >>and also denied he was firing Shell after the ‘06 season, only to fire him a short time later. Al’s denial is not exactly something to bank on.>>
Again that’s not what happened. Schefter came out and said Al was firing Art at the end of the season. The raiders issued a statement that “”Adam Schefter has always been a false rumor monger with respect to the Raiders and Anti-Raider bias based upon his relationship with Denver and Mike Shanahan. No decisions have been made relative to the 2007 Oakland Raiders nor will they be made for some time. Adam Schefter could not have gotten his information from a ‘reliable source’ because there’s only one reliable source and he doesn’t trust Adam.”
    Another MaddenRetard lie debunked.

    >>For those of you (including Jerry) who keep saying that Al can’t be a racist because of his record in hiring minorities and his actions taken in the ’60s to defend black players against segregation, if Al Davis told one of his players that he doesn’t like black athletes from their college, I’m sorry, that IS racist, no matter how you cut it.>>
Again 40 years of racial inclusion is somehow wiped out by a drama queen who says someone told him Al Davis doesn’t like black players from Notre Dame.

I think Willie Lanier said it best,
“Hiring (minority) coaches, players, this is something he did over the years. This is not something new where he came to some politically correctness in the 1990s.”

Or his former teammate at Syracuse, and black QB, Bernie Custis. “I came to know Al as someone that lived by a certain code and this code was to judge everybody by their content of their character and capabilities and nothing else. That’s the code that I detected at the time and I think it’s stayed with him throughout the years.”

    >>People do change.>>
Aren’t you the same moron who accuses Al of running this team as if it’s the 1970’s?

    >>Plus, Al Davis’s rather small role in the civil rights struggle (in comparison to the role of, say, Martin Luther King Jr.) was business oriented.>>
Try the ancient art of reading ya prick. Jerry even posted the effin article for you, so your claims of this being business oriented are so effin stupid. It’s right effin here and you claim it’s business oriented.

    ——–
“We had to take stands to break down a lot of the bigotry and things that were going on,” Daniels said. “There were still some very segregated cities, and we were confronted with a lot of situations. And that’s the best thing I can say about Al Davis — he backed us.”

Davis moved a Raiders preseason game from Mobile, Ala., to Frank Youell Field in Oakland because of the concerns of his African- American players, which included Daniels, Powell, Bo Roberson and Fred Williamson.

He did it despite losing gate receipts for attendance that would have been considerably more than the 8,317 that came to the rescheduled game in Oakland.

    ——-
Let’s repeat that for you shall we MaddenRetard…He did it despite LOSING gate receipts for attendance that would have been CONSIDERABLE MORE than the 8,317 that came to the rescheduled game in Oakland…

Getting black players for business decisions. Another MaddenRetard lie debunked.

    >>In short, Al was interested in black football players, and nothing else.>>
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. So, Al Davis hires the first hispanic coach(Tom Flores), hires the first African-American coach(Art Shell) in modern NFL history, hires the first African-American official(Aaron C Wade) in the AFL, hires the first African-American League Executive(Brad Pye Jr.) in the AFL.

Yup, nothing else. Another MaddenRetard lie debunked.

    >>And, sure, he should be commended for creating opportunities for black athletes that weren’t available in some parts of the country at that time. But those business related actions from a half century ago are not iron clad evidence that Al Davis can not be a racist. Don’t be ridiculous.>>
You telling people to not be ridiculous. Pot meet kettle.

    Setting Tim Brown Straight
Posted by Mike Florio on May 13, 2009, 9:25 p.m.
On Tuesday, former Raiders receiver Tim Brown made a borderline-ridiculous suggestion that team owner Al Davis doesn’t like black athletes from Notre Dame because, due to their education, they’ll be inclined to take the money and run.

Apart from the fact that such an attitude doesn’t necessarily reflect the work ethic of someone who is education, Brown should have given more credence to his instinctive reaction that someone was trying to ensure that Brown will give his all to the cause, and not become complacent once he got the contract that goes along with being the sixth overall pick in the 1988 draft.

The situation has prompted a league source to remind us of two situations from the early days of the Raiders organization, which coincided with the early days of the civil rights movement.

In 1963, the Raiders and the Jets were due to play a preseason game in Memphis. Davis was informed that he’d need two hotels — one for the black players and one for the white players, since the hotel operators in Memphis wouldn’t allow black players to room with white players.

So Davis refused to take the Raiders to Memphis, and the game was moved to Oakland.

Then, two years later, Davis was picked to coach an AFL all-star game, to be held in another southern city. (We can’t remember which one it was, and we don’t want to incorrectly malign one of the potential cities.) The same issue arose. So Davis refused to participate under those circumstances, and the game was moved to Houston.

Given that Brown spent 16 years with the team, we’re assuming that he learned about this at some point during his time there. And, if he knew about it, maybe he should have mentioned it within the context of suggesting that Davis is a racist.

  31. Dude Says:

Hmmm….. Maybe because the NCAA aint got sheet on SC.

  32. KoolKell Says:

In the late 50’s when Al was assistant coach at USC, he organized a Pac-10 strike of assistant coaches on behalf of African Americans Referees to be admitted into college football.

I read it in his book, and also saw the story on ESPN.

  33. Dude Says:

Who gives a funk if Al is racist or not. I know one thing about the fossil, hes racist against wins.

LOL Dude. That’s funny. Inacurrate, but funny.

Wow. Really? Why did you include Gannon in that list? The guy won games. Period. He also won the league’s MVP award, in case you missed that. Were it not for Gruden’s intimate knowledge of everything Raiders offense, he would’ve possibly brought another trophy to Oakland.

    Show some respect, man.

  36. blackdeath29 Says:

they are coming at the raiders from every angle.

  37. SnB Defense Says:

Al Davis is not racist and I don’t think Tim Brown meant in that context…Who cares, the past actions by Davis stand on their own merits.

As for the current Raiders…that’s the burning issue right now. Will the DTs step it up. Is Marshall’s defense going to improve? Will Russell take the next step? How will the carries be distributed in the backfield? Is Schilens ready to go? Henderson or Barnes?

Those are the big questions for the present and near future.

  38. nader64 Says:

SnB, I’m encouraged by the reports out of mini-camp w/ regards to Kelly’s quickness and Sands’ conditioning. It is only mini-camp so we won’t know much more until OTAs and moreso during pre-season. With that said, you are someone who has dissected the D-Line in depth; In your opinion was Kelly’s quickness preventing him from being effective last year? I think that’s an important distinction towards gauging what we’ll get from him this year.

    =======================================================
Mini-camp is not a gauge good or bad. The most important thing I listen for is who is healthy and who is not. Walker and Shields were disappointments…

As for Kelly. Part of the problem with him is that the NT next to him (Sands/Warren) aren’t getting enough attention from the opponent. Also the lack of blitzing doesn’t force O-Lineman to have to think too much. Therefore, Kelly is having too many double teams his way. Also, Kelly’s quickness has been an issue. He’s a one-gap penetrator and hasn’t been doing too much penetrating. Plus he runs warm and cold…that could be due to his knee or his conditioning/effort. I like that the coaches were riding Kelly and SAnds a little in practice.

    In a nutshell…

    1. Kelly has to become one of those high effort guys

    2. Warren/Sands have to start commanding more double teams and attention from opposing Guards and Centers

    3. Raiders need to mix in more blitzes to force the opponent to have to think more about protections etc…

Those three things can improve the D-Line play

  46. SnB Defense Says:

    Vegas Raider,

I have to agree with you. They are coming back with the same starting front-7 from last year. Safety is an unknown right now and Wilson accounted for 100+ tackles. Hopefully the front 7 step up so the safeties aren’t counted on so much to stop the long-runs.

I in a wait and see for the run defense. Gotta give Marshall a chance and hope that the DTs step it up.

  47. Nnamdi21 Says:

    10. Hostetler went to a pro bowl one of the four years he played with us and beat p-i-s-s out of Denver in that awesome play off game, but man, there have been some real duds at Qb back in the day.

I cringe everytime I see footage of that albino freak Jay Shroeder. Awful, just awful…

Can’t include Gannon on that list I’m afraid.

    Bad azz…

Gannon went to the pro bowl his first year with Oakland and then 3 more times in a row.

Was MVP of the Pro Bowl two times in a row (no one lese has ever done that) and threw for 4,689 yds and 26 TDs in 2002.

Not his fault we got mangled in SB 37.

If he’d managed to get us a Lombardi in one of those seasons, he’d be a legend.

The way that glorious run ended, in surprising, devastating defeat so many times in a row, makes Gannon under appreciated by many Raider fans.

    =======================================

Hope our offense helps our D.

If they do, it will play to our defenses strength, rushing the passer and coverage.

Built this way, the D needs a functioning drive sustaining O to keep them fresh.

If Oakland can start putting points on the board, you’ll see an improvement in the D and DTs.

  49. vegas raider Says:

    SnB,

Unfortunately, I think our best hope for a good Defense is going to be a good offense, plain and simple.

The D will have it’s moments, and Nmamdi will do his thing out there, but the line is thin, and our LB’s are slight. That is a bad combination for a run defense.

Marshall should be giving free reigns to try to be creative and utilize our defensive “athletes”. No doubt more bitzes will also yield more big-plays giving up, but if it creates a few extra turnovers, that seems better than the alternative. Rob Ryan would just lead his defense to die at times the last few years.

  50. nader64 Says:

SnB, If it really does take a year for a knee to get back then his quickness is a good sign. And to what you said about his needing help from Sands, even I (who just watch the games once each) could tell that the DL was winded a ton last year. If Sands can play “ligher” and longer, I would think it’d help. But I have to say, on the surface the DL looks like a potential concern. However, it won’t be as bad or worse than last year…for what that’s worth.

Let’s take a look at the most recent blog comments and hopefully get back to football comments.

    The week that was:

Jerry Mac is either a good reporter when he stands up with prior articles describing players and AL Davis, but when he writes not so flattering articles about Davis he is a hater. The subject is when and how to be critical about a writer/journalist providing observations or his interest about what others say, is always wrong for some. Jerry can’t win in this blog.

He states to the untrained eye, Jamarcus may be a wee bit overweight, without actually saying so, and this blog gets defensive about Jamarcus or offensive about his lack of commitment. The not so flattering names, michelin man, dougnut boy, Jabuttus,etc.. are over reacting to somebody’s else point of view.

The Tim Brown story is interesting, the reports have been stating their could be a POTENTIAL racist issue with what Brown preceived of as a racist comment, when in reality no one knows who is the THEY in his comment, to the Atlanta radio guy. Who is the THEY, and where is the THEY, and why wasn’t the THEY spoken about for the comment to be on the record.

Those THEY’S can surely get in the way, of good reporting.

My take is the Raiders will always be talked down as a organization, always have,(BSPN,FOX, NFLN,ETC) and for some in here to be upset with Jerry to provide more evidence is to the contrary what Brown said. It is not his job, as we say to get to the bottom of this. Jerry has made his point in this blog, he is quite clear on his beliefs of Al Davis.

As for BSPN, don’t sweat it, only fools can see these guys are reaching for some news and look like dorks stating news that is ridiculous.

Football is our outlet to all the depressing news out there, don’t let others swerve your thoughts away, remember the optimistic approach is were first in the AFC west, and let’s start there.

Our front 7 IMO needed and got a DE, an edge rusher that can get to the QB. I’m not saying that now I said it before the draft. I’ve read al the negative comments about Shaugnessy but I think the kid has a chance to be good. I know from what I saw of him on film the he’s pretty much what envisioned as the type of kid we needed. Now will pan out? only time will tell. But I like the guy’s size and ability. He’s well schooled as a run defender. And is a natural pass rusher. My only fripe with him is he really didn’t chase players down in pursuit.

That may have been due to the kne injury he suffered earlier that year. But the kid has talent and if he had been healthy he could’ve gone much higher IMO.

The front 7 is talented IMO to be good enough to win big. If we can play disciplined gap responsible football and tackle we will be fine.

  73. priesttj Says:

Unfortunately many feel that we needed DT’s because of the run defense. I think that is a mistaken assumption. Our run defense was poor due to a lack of discipline and toughness to a degree.

IMO MM, and the young LBers are a physical bunch as well as Matt Shaugnessey. We must tackle to stop the run and is we do this defense could go from also ran to very good in a hurry. We can play the pass as well as anyone. Now we needed to get to the QB and I think we have what we need to do that. Get off the field on 3rd down and let the offense go to work.

  74. MaddenRedneck Says:

Maybe Tim Brown is the real racist. Is that the real reason he lobbied for Shell over Shannahan, then pushed for Robiskie only to start calling plays to himself when Walsh replaced Robiskie in 94′? Then Brown has the audacity to even think he can still play at 42 years old after helping the Raiders to only 3 playoff appearnaces over a 15 year career with a wopping 3 post season touchdown passes. The Superbowl is not included because he dropped his passes in that one.

  75. MaddenRedneck Says:

Funny how Brown took the $765,000 Davis gave him just to resign and retire a Raider.

Foschi played with Oakland from 2004 to 2006 after previously spending time with the New York Jets, Denver and Minnesota as an undrafted free agent. Foschi’s most productive season came in 2005 when he started five games and caught six passes for 37 yards.

After spending 2007 out of the NFL, Foschi resurfaced with Kansas City last season and appeared in seven games. He had no receptions.

The Raiders have three other tight ends (rookie Brandon Myers, Darrell Strong and nine-year veteran Tony Stewart) behind starter Zach Miller.

Foschi, who turns 27 on Monday, played collegiately at Georgia Tech.

    5 Qs with Frantz Joseph

At Florida Atlantic, middle linebacker Frantz Joseph led the nation in tackles. On draft day, he led off Outside the Lines with a story about his life.

Now, he’s an undrafted rookie trying to catch on with the Raiders.

Joseph got his first taste of the NFL at last weekend’s minicamp, getting third-team work at middle and weakside linebacker. Here’s his reaction and hopes heading into OTAs.

Q: How do you evaluate yourself on opening weekend?

A: You can’t really depend on what people say, as far as other players. The only thing you can go by is by what coach tells you or what you see on film. For me, I really feel I had great advantages coming out here because first of all, I’m a student of the game. So when I was inside the classrooms, all I had to do was learn the new terminologies because football’s been played the same way for 100 years. There’s a 4-3 and there’s a 3-4. I was lucky enough to play in a 4-3 so coming out here, I definitely know the scheme very well. They had me playing multiple positions at the mike and will linebackers so I understand them both completely. For me, the pressure wasn’t that heavy. Just trying to get fit in with the older guys and everybody accepting you, that’s probably the biggest thing out here.
Q: Are Pro Day evaluations unfairly based on size and speed and not game film?

A: To be honest, I don’t understand. Just looking back to back in the days, it wasn’t all about that. They’d sit down and watch the film and see who was really good football players. Nowadays, you don’t have to have a good season. You come out there and run a 4.3 and jump a 40-inch vertical and all of a sudden, you’re first down. I led the country in tackles, not to toot my own horn, but if another guy had done that and ran the fastest time, then he probably would have been a first rounder. To me, just gives me a chip on my shoulder. It gives me an opportunity to come out to this great organization that understands good football players. If you’re a Raider, you’re either fast or you’re nasty. I really feel like I’m the physical type that can help them get better.

Q: What was your welcome to the NFL moment?

A: It’s kind of what I expected. I never really underestimated it so when I came out here it was exactly what I saw. Everybody’s good, bigger, faster. So for me, I don’t think I’ll get welcomed to it until we put on pads. That’s when we’ll see who the men are and who the boys are.

Q: Can you play the strongside if needed?

A: Well, I played sam my freshman year at Boston College. I would be comfortable as far as knowing what to do and the physicality of taking on fullbacks and blockers. I think I can excel at that too. I feel I can play any of them.

Q: Any players you try to emulate?

A: For me, the players that I like don’t even play football anymore. The last person I’d say is a Ray Lewis. For me, the two main guy I love are Dick Butkis and Jack Lambert. Just the nastiness, the tenacity, the meanness. That’s what I feel my game implements. Honestly, when I’m on the field, I’m not a nice guy. I’m not trying to be a friend. I’m really trying to hurt you with violence insise the white lines, legally. Off the field, I’m a gentleman. I have a lot of manners. But off the field, it’s a different world.

  96. MaddenRedneck Says:

I still think A. Smith was who they really wanted and Crabtree showed he was going to be a pain in the locker room the moment he visited the Browns. DHB fits the character model Cable is trying to create on the roster and has the build and athletic ability to become a better player than Crabtree over the span of a entire career.

  97. RaiderRockstar Says:

I don’t think I’ll get welcomed to it until we put on pads. That’s when we’ll see who the men are and who the boys are.

I feel sorry for whoever has to take on Frantz Joseph when contact is allowed and encouraged. I have a feeling this kid is going to give other guys the “welcome to the NFL” moments – even vets. He’s hungry and he’s gonna pop some fools. I want to see what the 2nd team defense looks like with Joseph at MLB and Mitchell at SS. Move Ricky Brown back over to strong side. He’s WAY better than Jon Alston!

  98. Dakota Says:

If they wanted A. Smith then their backup plan should have been Monroe…not the WR that only had 13 TDs in his college career.

  99. MaddenRedneck Says:

Monroe is a weak run blocker.

  100. MaddenRedneck Says:

Part of the problem is that the Terps had terrible quarterbacks in a run offense with only one playmaker at WR in constant double coverage, DHB.

  101. RaiderRockstar Says:

    ***

Remember Redneck, Tom Cable said that he and Davis were looking at Louis Murphy in the 2nd Round. you could be right.

He was still there in the 4th Round, even though we weren’t looking for another WR. He was a player they “couldn’t pass up” …

  102. MaddenRedneck Says:

I think the minicamp reports are probably some where in the middle, DHB looks like a rookie and Russell is developing on schedule and looks good.

  103. RaiderRockstar Says:

the original plan could have been:

    1 – A. Smith
    2 – Murphy
    3 – Mitchell

obviously the Raiders weren’t afraid to reach for players in the draft. If we wanted Monroe or Oher we would have drafted one of them.

  104. MaddenRedneck Says:

When Jerry talks about Russell looking shaky with his accuracy in drills involving the defense he forgot to mention the receivers are being tested at the line of scrimmage and their routes will be off if they had Russell throwing timing patterns to a spot on the field and not at the receivers. This will get better the more they practice.

  105. OAKlifer Says:

    1 – A. Smith

Garcia On Track To Take Job From JaMarcus?
Posted by Mike Florio on May 14, 2009, 10:32 a.m. EDT
Earlier this year, Raiders coach Tom Cable publicly challenged quarterback JaMarcus Russell to step up his game in 2009.

Then, the organization provided an even bigger challenge for Russell by bringing in veteran Jeff Garcia to serve as Russell’s understudy.

Sure, Garcia is the backup. Just like Kurt Warner was last year at this time in Arizona behind Matt Leinart. And just like Kerry Collins was in Tennessee, behind Vince Young.

The common thread? Three top-ten draft picks who have yet to fulfill the promise that put them there.

Jim Trotter of SI.com take a closer look at Russell’s current status. Turnover in the coaching staff and the decision to address a depleted receiving corps with a rookie could make it harder for Russell to excel in this third NFL season.

“Also those things have set him back a year,”one of Russell’s former coaches told Trotter.

Bottom line? Don’t be shocked if, come late August, the starting quarterback in Oakland won’t be the guy who was the first overall draft pick in 2007.

And we suggest that the folks in Detroit pay close attention.

    CJ Legend 34 -

I can go with all of those predictions in post #119 except Javon Walker

    here’s mine:

Darren McFadden is the most productive back in the AFC West

John Marshall moves the run defense up 10-15 spots

Lorenzo Neal starts 16 games and makes his 5th pro bowl

We will FINALLY have more than 5 wins this year

  123. CJ Legend 34 Says:

  124. r8rpaver Says:

O.K CJ…lets go…Tommy Kelly and Sands anchor the front line on defense witch makes the Raiders move from 31 in run d up to 15th….Burgess has a PB year with 15 sacks because our run d has improved so much and the offense is scoring more points that teams have to pass more

  125. CJ Legend 34 Says:

    Raiderrockstar

I can dig all of those predictions.

I have to admit the Walker is a stretch he may not make the team. I just hate to see all of that cash gone to waste.

If D-Mac is the most productive back in the AFC West I would not be happier. I would love it if they could get both he and Bush on the field more this year. I would also like them to get Bush in the backfield with DMac split wide. That would create fits for the defense.

good point. Andrew Walter has a bad attitude right now.

    ———————————

Walter may have a bad attitude now, but it was Raider induced. At ASU, Walter was a bright (played as a Grad Student), popular player that broke Elway’s PAC-10 TD pass record. HC Koetter had his faults, but he sure as hell knew sophisticated passing offenses and Walter was his prized student. To Walter, the Bed-and-Breakfast offense must have seemed like football Hell. Antiquated routs, no hot receivers, no blocking — just stand there and get killed.

So, Walter gets mugged and earns Davis a top draft pick. The old man uses the gift on a QB assuring Walter that he is finished as a Raider starter. I think I can cut Walter some slack about his attitude.

    —–

Have tried several times to get clarification on the inaccuracy of the passes. We read about how they were short hopped to the receivers, but was that going against air and coverage?
It worries me that at this point, they should be catchable balls and not short hops as it isnt like a DE is closing in waiting to destroy JRock.

As far as Andre Smith, the most glaring issue is his benchpress numbers were actually less than Jay Cutler. I am sorry, I dont want my LT to not put up more at the press than any QB in the league.

Maybe in your fantasy league Norco.

Redneck, you werent at mini,..I wasnt either but had a spy there,…wont say name here but this person heads the luxury suite sales and has all access,…says the Boss was unhappy watching 2 try and make a simple pass,..while Garcia was hitting DMAC in stride on 45 yard flies,…slants,…curls,…Russell is done and Im happy about it,…why a dude who was mediocre in college for a handful of games was given 65 million dollars is beyond ridiculous,..65 million for what?

  141. MaddenRedneck Says:

I have plenty of spies here on the net and we all know Russell will be starting no matter what you wish will happen.

  142. Norco Bob Says:

Put it this way, if there was rookie cap, and Russell signed for like 12 million, think he would have a lock on starting job?…lol…heck no…and the Boss wont sacrifice this season just to play the highest paid guy,..Garcia starts vs San Diego,…book that my friends.

  143. Norco Bob Says:

Its not my wish redneck, its Davis`s.

  144. MaddenRedneck Says:

Oher and Monroe only did 23 reps and nobody talks about them do they? Maybe because they have such long arms the bench press is not their best exercise.

  145. MaddenRedneck Says:

If Garcia is better I hope your right but reality tells me Russell starts.

  146. Norco Bob Says:

Davis has loved Garcia for years and regrets not getting him years ago,…Garcia was told in convidence, by Davis, he will have every chance to take job in Napa,..and he will do it easily,..heck if all things were equal, Russell likely would be cut after camp if not forthe money,…Gradkowski better then 2 also,…Russell not an NFL qb.

  147. Norco Bob Says:

Gotta run,..poor old sore bod needs to hit the spa,…will grab a 40 of Bud and soak in the hot tub for an hour or so,…as The Cult would say,…………..Ciao Baby!!!

  148. MaddenRedneck Says:

    Russell 14/21 148 yards 2 td 1 int win
    Garcia 17/33 257 yards 1 td 1 int loss

Somehow I think this will factor into Davis’s thinking.

  149. RaiderRockstar Says:

Ron: you’re STILL giving Andrew Walter a pass? I guess you didn’t watch the Panthers game last year. did you?

I guess you didn’t read that Walter basically called Tom Cable a liar last season. Cable said he told AW why he was moved to 3rd string. AW said he wasn’t.

I guess you didn’t read that EVERY QB attended QB School taught by Hackett & Tollner except Andrew Walter.

I guess you didn’t think about the fact that Andrew Walter could have been the next Philip Rivers after we drafted Russell. He couldn’t beat out Josh McCown & Daunte Culpepper! Russell didn’t start until Week 17 in 2007.

Walter was on the trade block for 2 years at a minimal cost. Koetter is now with the Jags, who were interested in Mark Sanchez. If they want a QB and Walter is a stud waiting to get claimed off waivers why wouldn’t the Jags just grab him now and get him in the system for a 6th or 7th rounder? He stinks!

  150. Norco Bob Says:

Redneck,..Davis isnt as stupid as those in here that puts all this importance on that Bucs game,..bfd,..that game means nothing,…btw, that game was won by Bush, not Russell….the Bucs D laid down in second half, old tired team with nothing left…period….Yuks go 3-13 this year.

  151. MaddenRedneck Says:

First win by a Raider quarterback in the month of December outside the state of California in half a decade and its no big deal? First quaterback come from behind by two scores to win a game in the fourth quarter on the road in how long and its no big deal? Knocking the Bucs out of the playoffs when the Superbowl was to be played on their home field is no big deal? Getting Gruden fired is no big deal? Maybe not to you Norco but I bet it does to Davis.

I actually agree with Porko here. Even Jerry Mac puts WAY too much importance on the final 2 games of the season. I might be impressed if we beat the Falcons, Ravens, Chargers or Patriots last year. Not the Jets, donks, Texans or Bucs. That Tampa defense folded as soon as Monte Kiffin quit on them to join his son Lame. They won zero games in December. The donks beat them last year. The Chiefs only lost by 3 points (30-27)

  154. MaddenRedneck Says:

Most fans call the Raiders the Faders right now yet they did not fade last year, the turnaround has started the opener will be a close game as long as Russell starts. Garcia was still QB when the Bucs started their loosing streak, can’t blame it all on the defense.

*Jamarcus Russell will be the starting QB and have a break out year.

*Zach Miller goes to the probowl.

*We will beat the Chargers this year.

Now I know without a shadow of a doubt that Norco Bob is full of sh1t! Garcia couldn’t throw 45 yard flies when he was a young man, let alone now as a 39 year old man. LMAO. He never has had the arm strength, not then and certainly not now.

Bob I understand that you don’t like JaMarcus, that is your choice. Just stop making sh1t up just to justify your argument. You have a spy? That is laughable bro.

Time to grow up and have a normal conversation with adults that back up their arguments with FACTS not FICTION.

The Allmans were truly amazing. They are celebrating 40 years as a band. It was a treat to see the Allmans, they very rarely make it out to the left coast. They played at the newly refurbished Fox Theatre in Oakland. That place is amazing, like the Warfield on roids.

The Dead are playing tonight at the Shoreline and Gregg Allman just announced a show at the Independant in SF in July.

Based on your statement I suggest that you check out Gov’t Mule (ask Dell) and the Derek Trucks Band. That’s only assuming that you don’t already listen to them.

Will you be going to the Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood show?

    - Chris Johnson will have 2 picks in the season opener causing comparisons to Lester Hayes on national TV.

    Well you know whats funny?

Is that most of us fans of this team and “amatuers” can probably run a draft better than that old stubbron man Al Davis.

This past draft should make or break the old man IMO. If this past draft class turns out to be solid….then maybe the old man will actually not hire a real personnel man to do a better job than he has until he dies. However if this class doesn’t produce, in two or three years then the old man better get just sit back and be an non meddling owner and hire a freakin REAL personnel man.
